The other day I asked about the communities current satisfaction(or lack there of) with the amount of update to dungeons/fractals.

Its been confirmed in an interview at gamescon that Anet have no plans to really add any dungeon content. TA aether was apparently a big endeavor for them and theyd rather stick to small QoL changes. That being said, theyd also prefer to do fractals since its less work.

Looks like you guys will be playing the same content for the next 6 months at least. Its really unfortunate how the living story hogs all the resources. Im just waiting for it to go if this is the reality we have to live with.

ta atherblade was a lot of effort bc they went all ‘tryhard’ with puzzles. keep it simple and focus on boss encounters. that’s all ppl care about.

I know these 2 guys probably weren’t in the best place to answer, but the fact that they didn’t even bother saying “it’s definitely something we talk about” tells us that dungeons aren’t and will not be something Anet care about.

We, as a community, better do something, I don’t know what, I don’t know how but something must be done. Over the past 2 days we have seen Dev/Community manager post everywhere on the forum, except the dungeon subforum

We might not represent the biggest part of GW2, but I’m pretty sure it’s due to Anet ignoring this aspect of the game rather than the player’s interest. For casual players, farming open world event is more rewarding than dungeons, so they might run them once and never set a foot in there again because it wouldn’t be worth it.

Dungeon have their place in MMO and ignoring that is a big mistake, for many of us dungeon has been the competitive scene in MMO, pvp is fun and everything but was first introduce in MMO as a side game for fun. I wish I could feel the thrill of getting a world raid first like in world of warcraft, nothing come close to it in gw2. If it wasn’t for the fluid combat system I’m pretty sure most of us, “elitist” would have left a while ago.

Yeah, but they took the time to nerf FGS. And spider queen. And the ac troll in HOTW. Meh, maybe they shouldn’t touch dungeons if they are doing it this way.

Barely surprising. They realized that the general level of the community isn’t too great and that if they released something hard, it will barely get played.

So instead of doing something few people will actually enjoy, they actually prefer to cater to the vast majority that loves to “play how I want” (with them it means “I should be able to the same thing as someone geared with full damage gear and traits”) with not too hard content.

Now if only they could fix bugs in the current dungeons (without putting more bugs…) and maybe, just maybe make some encounter more interesting (like Tazza).

Looks like the quality of GW1 was better from GW2.I never played the previous game before but i don’t find anything challenging or hard core as far the group content.The dungeons are one pile of crap that i can let burn and never look back.More beeter and harder instanced content is needed which Anet don’t deliver.

I’m not surprised. The existing dungeon paths allow speed running, essentially due to weak design. There’s no point create new dungeons with that same weakness but there’s also no point creating dungeons (like TA aether) that take longer than a speed run.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the designers create something new that is dungeon like but isn’t a dungeon. There is a need for meaty group content somewhere in LS2.

I don’t think the majority of that subreddit has ever set foot in a dungeon. Had a guy actually tell me that the new fgs would be a dps increase over camping staff fire today. That’s okay though, all you have to do is somehow relate the topic to SAB and it will shoot straight to the top.

Ohhh, was about time. Now all of you guys can finally get back on earth and realise it’s anet we’re talking about. They don’t give a kitten about us and it’s been clear to me since all the stealth changes. Whenever I read all the pathetic “oh but they care about us, they’re making slim changes and there will be new dungeons” I wanted to cringe.
Time to wake up.
At least now it’s clear. Sticky this thread, bookmark it so you can use it whenever someone stumbles upon the trashcan and starts demanding for stuff to be done left and right.
I can’t wait for another good mmo to come out so I can leave this cesspool.
I’m disgusted.

Well, too bad. They made a trashy game (that could’ve lasted 10 years) with no future that will keep being stale 1-2 years from now, with no significant update. There’s so much you can do to milk casuals with charr backpacks if you don’t plan to do the slightest xpac.
I’ll gladly stick around to see it die out. I’d also love if they went bankrupt, but that’s too much to hope for.
As long as I see them their gems sales lowering and the casuals getting bored and sick of being milked to death, I’m happy.

Wildstar dungeons are pretty awesome

This game really does look better every time GW2 gets an update, however, I am a little worried about trying another NCsoft title. I don’t like ArcheAge but I’ll be playing it for a while.

At least they finally came out and said it instead of making us speculate, hope, and get repeatedly disappointed. Thank you so much for finally cutting the cord, ANet. I really mean that. Letting us know is a huge step forward in building trust instead of resentment.

I don’t like the news, but I’m happy to see it, and it feels honest. I might leave over it, as I think many of us might, but (at least in my case) you’re not losing any income. I’ve just been a gold-to-gem parasite ever since you kept silent about Alphard.

I think there will be a lot of us saying “I’m leaving now, kitten off ANet you assbags!!”, but I don’t know that most of us will actually leave. The game is F2P, we get enough gold from dungeons to buy gems for essentials (for now, anyway. Gem prices O.o), and honestly, all you’ve said is that nothing will change significantly — something that we’ve all known for a while now. These reactions are more or less from the shock of hearing it explicitly: Our favorite part of the game really has been abandoned. But we’ve felt abandoned for a long time now. As long as my friends stay, I probably will too. Running mindlessly through the same dungeons 400x with good people is still fun for me.

That said, it’s probably time for a break and to reevaluate our options. What’s a good MMO these days? I tried FFXIV (combat didn’t grab me) and ESO (felt like it needed a bit more development time to start to shine). I’ve heard good about Wildstar — Is the combat system comparable and the dungeon experience improved? That’s all I’m looking for, really.

Really disappointing. I was looking forward to a Mordrem dungeon. The mobs and bosses they have used in living story would make for a very fun dungeon. They would just need to make the bosses harder and have a few more attacks. Most of the work would be just designing the dungeon map. No need for puzzles, just fill it with mordrem. Oh well, i guess anet plan to let their game slowly die out.

I would be extremely surprise if they ever release a new dungeon , but i can imagine them releasing new lvl of difficulty (+hp+damage i would be surprised with more than that tho ) for each of our already old and even hated dungeons, since it wouldnt require as much time of their precious living-story.

Sadly, I wouldn’t hold my breath. He said repeatedly that there was zero-possibility of a “hard mode” of any sort for existing dungeons.

Only quality of life fixes.

I can see why they would want to stay away from hard mode. It caused problems in Guild Wars 1 community wise.

The game right now also does not work well for dungeons. Perhaps after that is fixed they would be more willing to make more dungeons.

Remember…. Things can change. Keep in mind they also said at this point. That means don’t rule it out for happening in the future.

I have watched the part several times now. And as far as I understand it they don’t really say anything about new dungeons, but rather about big changes to the EXISTING dungeons, like the one in TA.
Maybe I am missing something but from what I understand new dungeons weren’t really mentioned at all.

That’s very disappointing to hear. In the first living story, we were given three new dungeons: Molten Facility, Aetherblade Retreat, and TA Aetherpath. None of these were rewarding enough to make it part of a dungeon tour considering the amount of time needed to run them, but it was something. Instead of rereleasing the story dungeons they created in its entirety with some modifications to rewards, we got back portions of them as fractals. I’m not sure if I agreed with that direction either, but at least it was some additional content to play.

Since three completely new dungeons were created in the first living story, I don’t believe that it is too much work or Arenanet doesn’t have the resources to create new dungeons or expand on the current dungeons with new explorable paths. They’ve shown in the past that it can be done. They have simply chosen to ignore the dungeon community with this response, instead catering to the casual crowd with periodic living story updates.

We have all known the direction Arenanet has been moving in for awhile, but many of us have stuck around in hopes of an expansion or surprise update. I had hopes at one point before release that Dry Top would contain a new dungeon and a new world boss since Arenanet took a long break from releasing living story updates and recycled past content for months… but all we got was disappointment.

The least Arenanet can do is give us back TA F/U. Why take out content from us just because it was bugged? Just fix the nightmare tree and put it back in the game please.

Maybe for you. But the people actually playing it, seems to think otherwise. The game is already dying, servers are low population and apparently they gave up it sold less than 500k Units.

ArenaNET is hellbent on ditching everything about their game for this kittening living story bullkitten.

-No new dungeons
-Fractals : yearly update… and still the drop rates are FUBAR
-No new PvP mode. No new maps in forever
-Barely anything new for WvW except EotM which has turned into a karma train from bad design (partially the players’ fault as well; it is a fun map if you play it as intended).

Hell, even in terms of open world pve content we have barely gotten anything : new zones, map completion, jumping puzzles, mini dungeons and hidden areas, etc.

What do we get? Story instances and gemstore items.

Getting real kittening tired of this kitten. I stopped doing dungeons recently because I’m just so freaking bored of them after a few thousand runs..

*EDIT : Even worse, they stay away from their most interesting living story updates like Super Adventure Box too! It’s like they purposely want to give us the worse possible content they can add to the game.

Combat is better in gw2. Dungeons are better in gw2 than wildstar. Arena net do not know the opportunity they are missing out on by not expanding their dungeons.

You can interpret however you want to make you feel better and stay positive, but the two devs were asked directly about new dungeons, fractals, or other dungeon related changes. Basically the response sounded like “TA aetherpath was waaaay too much work and we’re not doing that again. Fractals is not out of the question since those are shorter and easier to make”. That response doesn’t exactly give me optimism that they want to put much effort into making new dungeons to me.

But was it too much work or was it simply that it felt like too much work because how little people wanted to play it? That can make a rather massive difference. Even something that takes a month to create can be considered too much work when not appreciated after all.

I actually like the Aether path, its just that few people want to do it. Have to wonder how different dungeons would be if they had thought to make puzzles a part of dungeons from the beginning. The biggest problem with Aether is we use the original paths as a frame of reference, so yeah unless you get a weapon drop it doesn’t feel as rewarding for time as other paths. Okay lets call it what it is, it isn’t as rewarding for time as other paths.
This whole thing makes me really sad that my favorite part of the game is gathering cobwebs in some back office with a picture of Hrouda crooked on the wall. All these new Mordemoth enemies and champion mechanics in Dry Top had me excited for what the new dungeon with the next dragon fight would be like. How much of a letdown will it be if the next dragon fight isn’t a dungeon? As weak as the Zhaitan fight was at least it had a dungeon attached to it.
The only hope left is that after some major project is done a dungeon team would be created to start working on new or existing content, but I can’t bring myself to actually believe it.

They don’t specifically say “new dungeons”, but at 5:45 in the video he can summarized as saying “Dungeons are what they are, and they won’t change anytime soon. Outside of small quality of life improvements, we’re leaving dungeons alone.”

Also the mention that Aetherpath was way more work than they’re able to invest right now, and that wasn’t even a complete dungeon.

This all pretty much adds up to no new dungeons. I suppose you can read into the fact that he didn’t explicitly say it, but I think it was pretty clear that we’re not getting anything significant any time soon.

Does it mean crucial fights in the story will become a 5 man ‘dungeon’ like Missions in Gw1? Maybe they will leave the classic dungeons the way they are then..
