I just had a quality pug run with some terribad guild. Arah P3, and they’ve clearly never done it. Admittedly, I was being an kitten . Here’s a few of the highly inappropriate and offensive things I said to them during the run:

“Stack here”
“Run when I stealth”
“I will portal, wait here”
“Stack on Lupi when he does his AOE, I will feedback it”
“Don’t run into his bubble” (they were actually doing this)

The last one got me kicked mid-fight for “bad attitude”. So now you know, kids. Don’t be too good at dungeons. PUGs hate that kitten.

On the plus side, I remembered all their names and the one other pug in the group tells me they wiped on Lupi multiple times immediately after. They’re probably still trying to kill him right this instant, it wasn’t too long ago. Either that or they gave up.

The anti-good player attitude in this game and its community really drives me up the wall.

How dare you try to fight Lupicus efficiently, how dare you.

I thought the developer intentions was to buy a gemstore item and then casually auto attack him to death.

“Stack here”

Clearly this is some sort of scumbag LoS tactic. And when I say tactic I mean exploit that is unintended and you should be banned

“Run when I stealth”

Stealth is another unintended game mechanic which inadvertently enables people to skip trash mobs. Clearly stealth exists so you can pop out of it and take those PVE mobs by surprise… *not to run past them like a filthy exploiter.

“I will portal, wait here”

Portalling is just another way of saying ‘You people can’t even run past the trash that I just did.’ Which means that even though you were clearly exploiting the game by skipping mobs that need to be killed for their precious blue and green loot, the rest of your team was respectable and wanted to stay behind and play the game how it was intended (probably wiping every so often along the way, because it’s not fun unless it’s a challenge)! and yet you forced that elitist attitude of yours on them anyway and tried to portal them past!

“Stack on Lupi when he does his AOE, I will feedback it”

Firstly you stacked. Big no no because stacking is hard and requires cognitive function beyond that of a normal pug. You must think you are extremely smart to force people to your will mr elitist! Likely they did what you wanted, and had to bow to your oppressive demands or else they risked failing the super hard boss which they had probably wiped on countless times and would never get their dungeon master title flaunt around in LA. They were left at your mercy and you made them stack, which as discussed above, is not only hard, but exploiting. Secondly. You used feedback. Feedback is another skill that is often used for exploiting by dealing back the boss’s damage to make the run faster. You see the real intention of feedback was to provide a pretty purple bubble that makes people feel reassured and comfortable while they ranged attack things in their pvt gear. You used it for evil intentions, to fool them into actually meleeing something.

“Don’t run into his bubble” (they were actually doing this)

The bubble is there for a reason. It’s there to deal damage. If the boss is not dealing your party damage then you are clearly exploiting. They were simply enabling the boss to use his mechanics on them and you once again tried to step in and stop them.

There you go. I hope you understand now why you were kicked Guang.

Gotta love human nature. The same players that will follow a commander tag and mindlessly zerg for hours upon hours like lemmings (and think that is an example of good gameplay), shout “Don’t tread on me” in a dungeon run. Maybe the solution is to turn your commander tag on?

When I do dungeons I try to say as little as possible except to make the subtle statement of do you know what to do on this part.

I was quite vocal before I did TA with a ranger who couldn’t run past any of the mobs and constantly ran out of Shadow Refuge before it was done giving stealth. I might have gotten kicked out of that group can’t remember all I know is it made me want to play with rangers a whole lot less.

Well…
I respect you, Guang.
…but, while I never would have kicked somebody who was only trying to be helpful and think that’s a bit over-the-top, I’ve got to admit I read #4 and rolled my eyes at my computer.

As someone whose a bit of a know-it-all herself on a good day, and who frankly plunges headlong into the far worse territory of an authoritative female dog on a bad one. Let me say, us forumites can have a sense of helpful that can be a bit misaligned with the sensibilities of other people. What we see as just general good leadership and speaking clearly can come off as Drill Sergant-y and Overbearing. And worse, it can come off that way even if people never muster the courage to voice their complaint against you.

I’ve found you can downplay this effect a bit if you learn to take your victories where you can get them, even if it’s slow and sloppy. If they can get through Lupicus by plinking away with ranged weapons and kiting instead of reflection tactics, then that’s great. And, get people to do what you want by virtue of setting the ‘pace’ of the group by having them follow your character, instead of typing out actual commands. It’s the same basic effect, but people don’t react as though you’re talking down to them. I know that’s not exactly the holy grail of advice right there, but, I’m still learning too.

I don’t know much, but I do know this.
At the end of the day, you’re not going to level up your people skills and relatability by coming to the forum for a circlejerk. It doesn’t matter what we think, if you’re typing on a forum chances are you’re a part of the same 10% superfan demographic everyone else here is. But the vast majority of other players aren’t, and by sheer force of numbers it’s far more important you can play the game with them than any of us.

I don’t know, I might be overstepping my boundaries a bit with that.
I’m sorry if it’s offensive, but I think it’s something worth saying.

You really think pugs can figure out to stack on Lupi instead of scattering? Or that I’m going to portal/stealth? Hell, I wouldn’t be able to figure out every time some random pug was going to do that stuff even if I was an expert at the dungeon.

I’m not an elitist, but I’m not hyper casual, either. When told to stack somewhere I stack, and when crap gets bad and no one else will, I find I have to take control and coach people on how to do things.

I also find it prudent to, in every pug, either ask if other people have done that dungeon path, or say myself that I had not done that dungeon path recently. If this convo doesn’t take place, and you just start commanding people, then it comes off as obtrusive and condescending.

That said, I’d blame the lag first. Lately the lag in the game is so bad that I’ve found myself standing stationary and not moving, only to discover 5 seconds later that I’ve run off a cliff into lava ankitten ow irreversibly dead (been running SE a lot lately). When that happens, I’d be pretty ticked off, too, if another member of the team took it upon themselves to tell me to not run off the edge into lava.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Well, that is a first.

Body-language-leading is a legitimately weird thing.
But give it a try, and see how it works for you. I’ve always found just being in front of ‘the pack’ and plopping down SR at the mouth of whatever section you’re about to traverse does the trick.

You don’t have to go out of your way to herd people into doing things they already want to do. People are excellent at looking out for their own interests, especially on clear simple things. It seems like you don’t have to explicitly direct people when the game has a visual cue broadcasting an opportunity people are likely to take.

But I think this goes both ways.
If you find yourself endlessly yammering on in an effort to get people to cooperate with an overarching strategy, you should really pause a moment and ask yourself if people are on-board or if you’re just mistaking silent incomprehension or grudging semi-obedience as a vote of confidence. Somebody whose 100% on-board and somebody whose malcontent or misinformed going through the motions are virtually identical from your perspective. Things seem to work out for the better if you take the initiative to sort people out. Less by telling people what to do, and more by getting everyone’s self-interest aligned by telling them why they should want to and being receptive to trying alternatives when they don’t agree.

I’ve found the more you talk and listen, the less you order by virtue of not having to.
