Why elitists need to chill
Elitists in mmos are amusing, it doesn’t take any special skill or talent to be excellent at button mashing a combination of keys. I don’t believe that jobs in Guild Wars 2 require that high of a learning curve . If a “casual-gamer” has the right gear, and specs they would perform just fine.
I always thought mmos were focused on social interaction unlike any other video game genre. Guild Wars 2 was meant to be more casual, whether you like it or not. However, the end game grind will still be around until more content is implemented. Changes still need to happen that could make high level content less of a grind fest and more rewarding/ enjoyable to everyone.
You know what else requires mashing a combination of keys/buttons?
Fighting games. But I’m not about to challenge Daigo Umehara in a money match of Street Fighter. Clearly, you can show considerable skill in mashing a combination of keys or buttons.
Heck. Typing is mashing a combination of keys, but I’m not about to try and write a book—although apparently, single moms can do it in cafes and make billions.
So, yes, you can be skilled in MMOs. And there are people who prove it to us time and again. You could argue that their skill is not worth very much, and I would agree with you. But you can’t argue against the existence of skill.
I also agree with you that a casual player can do well in Guild Wars 2. I just don’t agree that with you that some players aren’t naturally better than others—ahem, talent. Or some players haven’t acquired their skills with a whole lot of practice—ahem, special skill.
This sounds incredibly pointed, but it’s not fully directed at you. It’s directed at people who are using such an argument as an excuse not to do better. In whatever you do, try your hardest and do your best; whether it’s play MMOs or your job or your studies or your hobbies. Or don’t. But don’t bring down others due to your own insecurities.
It’s unnecessary.
And, no, I’m not particularly fond of elitists, either.

This doesn’t have anything to do with casual or hardcore. Since gear doesn’t make much difference and everyone will soon have the same gear level. ATM most people have full rares which is fine.
A casual player can be just as good as a ‘elitist’ player, the game isn’t hard. People saying they like dungeons ATM aren’t elitist, they just enjoy the challenge.
Arena net made the dungeons they wanted with the difficulty level that they wanted.
When you make a mmo you can make your dungeons easy, until then be happy with what you were given.
So no, I don’t believe devs intend for you to kill everything. I think Guild Wars 2 has done a good job of encouraging you to approach things creatively—to an extent.
my problem with sth like that is: in almost every game people were whining because they considered it an exploit (latest example would be CC in rift). add to that the new magg bomb chamber where it’s intended to kill everything… that just shows that their design intentions differ from how people do dungeons.
the real fun starts when they “fix” it because they want people to follow exactly like it’s intended. even better when they let it pass for months and THEN fix it.
they should just make it clear from the start, spares us all a lot of drama. that’s all I’m saying.
I have nothing against pro players, but sadly majority of the pro players are trolling jerks, this is a fact.
Ask in a thread if this game is all about kiting in dungeons and if there are any other method, the elitist trolls start flooding the thread calling you noob, and to stop whining and didn’t event give any advice except “l2p”.
I mean Bro, im just asking for alternative tactics, why so trollish? Is it so hard to at least NOT reply to the thread?
I agree that more transparency would be a good thing.
Although, I have a feeling that the developers are out of their depth with Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 1 did very well, but it did not have nearly as wide and far-reaching player-base as Guild Wars 2.
Take that as you will.
