gw2dungeons.net: Development topic
I really dont want to see map crosses on records. That was such a dull and uninteresting thing people tried back on the old GWSCR site. Jumping puzzles and guild missions i dont mind so much. But i dont really see much demand for them.
Possibly link (if there is one), the current (as opposed to all time) record for a dungeon path/fractal in the guide for each path? It might encourage crazy pug tactics that make even less sense than current pug tactics, but it may also encourage additional people to go for a record.
Do you think link to record page with specific filters would be fine? Or perhaps a list of available video links?

I would link to a specifically filtered record page.
While I suck really bad (worst bearbow ranger NA), it can provide a good example of how the fights change as you get better, have a good comp, and know your stuff.
Another option is to basically get the character column and show it on the guide.
I was thinking of making images like this for every fractal. What do you guys think?
I also updated Snowblind guide: http://gw2dungeons.net/SNOW. Please let me know any tips and tricks which might be missing!

That would made me very, very happy. I’ve searched for full maps of some dungeons and been unable to find them (can’t think of which off the top of my head, but sometimes the wiki has them, sometimes it doesn’t). I think TA was one?
My only suggestion is a short legend for the paths markers — Red line is intended path, green is a skip. Fairly obvious, but explicit is better
If gw2dungeons could show maps (even if they had less detail than the example) for the various fractal/dungeon paths, it’d be an awesome addition. My main reason for wanting them is goat related >.>

That’s fantastic.
I would suggest numbering or labeling the camp fires around the source, or at least differentiating the northmost fire somehow, so that it’s easier to specify or otherwise more apparent that’s the fire most everyone regroups at.
I would advise against using any capitalized letters in URL’s. It’s more convenient to have all lower cased text in case someone posts in gw2 map/say/guild chat and you have to re-type the whole thing.
Page names are no longer case sensitive so you can put anything you want.
Also added a new topic to discuss:
Community driven reputation system
With the upcoming authentication API this would be possible. You would login to your account and rate people. For example tolerant/kicked, helpful/unhelpful, etc. Goal is to give negative reputation for griefers so people can avoid them. Also idea is to push people to more helpful direction.
I made a new Snowblind map with bit more effort. If this looks good this will be the style for other maps.
I also added a link to it after every encounter name.

Love it, that’s a really sweet addition.
To get lots of dungeon/fractal enemy images I was thinking of making a lottery, with 1000g prize (about 140€ I think).
So people would submit images and each entry would give them one ticket. Then at the end I would put all tickets together and pick one (1000g) or two (750g + 250g). To prevent people posting bad images only ones which were better than current images would count.
After the lottery hopefully all bosses and most enemies had an image and images of their major attacks.
Any ideas?
First thought – First person and camera tools would have an edge over legit images and make the contest ‘unfair’.
As long as the posted image is better than the current image on gw2dungeons it would count. Even if someone else posted a better one which I would actually use.
In other words, if you make a realistic submit it will count.
Wait, so what are you asking for here? Plain picture of the mobs like this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/d/d6/Captain_Mai_Trin.jpg/449px-Captain_Mai_Trin.jpg or also with attack animations?
I’d certainly contribute, although maybe a lottery isn’t the best way to do it? How many images are required? Maybe you could do a pay-per-image kind of route with 2g for every good image of something needed taken, and the person at the end who has the “best” image for any given attack or enemy would get the payout.
gw2dungeons has 900 separate enemy entries. Lots of enemies look same so maybe 200 images would be needed. Major attacks are probably another 200 images. I think like a total of 500 images would be a decent amount.
The thing with a lottery is that people prefer a chance with high pay than a guaranteed low pay. So it’s a good way to fool people to help.

Anything useful is fine. But yes:
1) Plain enemy images
2) Additionally images which show animations or other relevant info
3) Any other dungeon related relevant images
(edited by Wethospu.6437)
How about an animation library type project for bosses?
Get people to record clear video of each attack a boss has, and just make an edited video with something like the name of the attack and other associated info for it, then some video clips of the attack (ideally from different angles/distances), then info for the next attack, video clips of the next attack, etc.
It’d be more work than screenshots of major attacks, but at the same time it’d be way more useful for people trying to learn boss tells.
That sounds way too much of a work. With images I need less than a minute for each image. With videos it would take 15-30 mins if I need to edit them.
I agree, if someone wants to see animations for some encounters, there are more than enough videos on youtube.
Do you want the pictures fully edited before sent, or do you want to fit them yourself if you choose them? I have a few I could send to you through PM or something.
The whole point of lottery (me spending money) is that you guys do all the work. :P
Would a gif or motion png be ok? I’ll be willing to record a few key boss animations so people can know what to dodge.
Or would you prefer to complete mob images first and worry about animations later?

haha, glad I refreshed, I was about to suggest/ask the same thing. I know for Lupi when I was learning I used to pause the Lupi kick phases in videos to try and get a good picture in my head for each fraction of a second of that quick animation. I was thinking of making one for this (if I remember and find the motivation ) I know I would have loved a slowed down gif with a label like “Crouch” “leg kittened back” “Kick” “did you dodge? yay you’re alive!”
I think it’d also be helpful for his grub attack. See the various portions of the wave, then have a message on the hand at the chin “dodge”.
I love Brazil’s video but it’s pretty long and tough to give people and say “watch this” when we’re in a run. But having a set of gifs would surely be nice. “hey go take a look at these 6 gifs for a minute” would be a lot easier than “watch this half hour long video”. (thinking a kick, grub, frenzied blast, swipe, lift, and the sucky thingy would be just fine)
Sure, you can do something like that. I’m not just excepting an average guy to be able to do anything like that.
Assuming I do a lottery would one big prize or few smaller prizes feel better?
Few smaller prizes, definitely. If fifty people submit images, having only one prize makes it feel pretty hopeless. Part of the reason I hate lotteries, though, is that I deal with enough bad RNG in this game I don’t really want to deal with a contest offering even more. I’ll likely help with images anyway, though.

^^ I’m not a gambler so I’m of the same opinion, though I can’t argue with the effectiveness of “you could win <insert large amount here>” to get people motivated.
That said if I manage to get motivated to do it, it’ll be to help not for some gold
I’m thinking of improving the general tips on the site a bit. Ideally after reading them players would know current state of the game, what are expected from different professions and how to do basic stuff like stack might / stealth.
Here is my summary for profession:
Elementalist:
* Damage: +++
* Offensive support: Might (+++), Fury (0 / +++), Vulnerability (+)
* Defensive support: Anti projectile (++), condition removal (++)
* Utility: Control (+++)
Engineer:
* Damage: ++
* Offensive support: Vulnerability (+++), Might (++)
* Defensive support: Anti projectile (++), Blind (++), Immobilization (++)
* Utility: Stealth (++)
Guardian:
* Damage: ++/ +++ (reflection)
* Offensive support: Quickness (+), Vulnerability (+)
* Defensive support: Aegis (+++), Stability (++), Blind (++), Anti projectile (+++)
* Utility: 0
Mesmer:
* Damage: +/ ++ (if phantasms survive) / +++(reflection)
* Offensive support: Quickness (++), Vulnerability (+),
* Defensive support: Anti projectile (+++), Stability (+), Condition removal (++)
* Utility: Boonstrip (+++), Control (+++), Portal (+++), Stealth (++)
Necromancer:
* Damage: ++
* Offensive support: Vulnerability (+)
* Defensive support: Blind (+), Immobilization (+)
* Utility: Control (+)
Ranger:
* Damage: ++
* Offensive support: Vulnerability (++), Fury (++), Spotter/Frost Spirit (+++)
* Defensive support: Anti projectile (+), Condition removal (++)
* Utility: 0
Thief:
* Damage: +++
* Offensive support: Vulnerability (+)
* Defensive support: Anti projectile (++), Blind (+++)
* Utility: Control (+++), Stealth (+++)
Warrior:
* Damage: + (PS) / ++
* Offensive support: Banners (+++), Might (+ / +++), Fury (+)
* Defensive support: Revival (+), Condition removal (+)
* Utility: Control (+)
How does this look like? I’m bit unsure about lots of things so any opinions are welcome.

I would rate mes
- Damage: Terribad (mes only), Low (1Wa), Medium (1Du1Sw), High (1Du2Sw/3Sw, Reflects)
- Offensive support: Low (timewarp, vulnerability)
- Defensive support: Medium (stability, condi removal, interrupt), High (reflects)
- Utility: High (control, boonstrip, portal), Medium (stealth)
(edited by frifox.5283)
I don’t know if it makes sense to break down the classes so much.
Edit: nvm, the (+) thing with their own subcategories looks much better
That won’t be the final output. Things with only one + probably won’t be mentioned.
I’d put a ++ for Engi blind, rotating flash grenade, smoke bomb, and smoke vent can be very potent, even more so with “short fuse” and/or “fireforged trigger”. I use this quite often in fractals when we have no thief. I consider it on par if not better coverage compared to guard. Also I might mention Immob for Engi, huge role in fractals, then of course Tar.
Ranger:
- Damage: ++
- Offensive support: Vulnerability (+), Fury (), Spotter (+)
- Defensive support: Anti projectile (), Condition removal (+)
- Utility: 0
You ignore frost spirit?
And might.
Also heavily exaggerated negative review of the necro. It’s bad, alright, but not THAT bad.
So apart from the rant, do you have suggestions how to correct it?
I was thinking of making a reddit post which would automatically reply gw2dungeons.net whenever someone mentioned a dungeon or a fractal. Do you think it would be useful or perhaps just too spammy?
Even autoreplying to every thread with ‘dungeon’ or ‘fractal’ in the name would get pretty spammy. You could probably do something like checking for multiple words like ‘dungeon’, ‘fractal’, ‘help’, ‘new’, ‘guide’, in thread titles/descriptions, and autoreply if over a certain number or certain combinations pop up, though. It might be nice to have a bot to post a guide to properly finding/forming groups on the lfg as well. You should probably talk to /u/Attunement about it, though.
Might/stack blasts are actually a good tip and I’m glad for their inclusion. I’ve seen one too many thieves fail the stealth blast on smokescreen because blasting it with shortbow actually requires finnicky aiming or it just won’t register.
Also for the Thaumanova Reactor burst strategy, it works for PuG’s to aggro him and make him walk near the entrance, and when he stops short of it have an engineer magnet him/thief scorpion wire/mesmer pull. It gives the oozes that spawn a longer travel time. More forgiving of a DPS check.

I think if you activate the cluster bomb but keep your mouse on the interface it just self targets so you blast directly in to the field.

Yup.
Necromancer:
- Damage: ++
- Offensive support: Vulnerability ( + + ), Party siphon ( + )
- Defensive support: Blind (+)
- Utility: 0
Other than what added it was pretty accurate.
(edited by Dadnir.5038)
Party siphon? Are you talking about dark field life steal? If so theres only one place that is useful. And it might get fixed eventually. So i would leave that out.
I would personally put it as:
Necromancer:
- Damage: ++
- Offensive support: Vulnerability ( + )
- Defensive support: Blind ( + ), Immobilization ( + )
- Utility: Control ( + )
