correct me if I’m wrong, this sub-section has seen the last developer-comment 7 months ago by Izzy about magic find. This doesn’t look like Anet cares about dungeons (supposedly the hardest content in the game) any more – seriously: no time for feedback for such a long time??

I don’t mean no disrespect but saying the game is community-oriented and not answering any posts in the dungeon-forums makes it quite difficult to come up with constructive feedback and keep the motivation up. How about an AMA then?

I get that devs are busy and don’t have much time, but imho there should be time enough to reply at least once a month on the most replied thread.

What, the developers have plenty of time for their community.

They respond in obviously very important threads like this. Also, there are a bunch of game breaking bugs like this one that need dev attention before dungeons, because obviously, no one can play the game when an NPC is running around asking random questions. Not to mention, this guy right here had a problem with his personal story quest, I mean, who could leave someone like that standing in the cold? This guy even had such a game breaking bug, he solved it himself! He just had to read his mail! Luckily the devs tried to help him though.

I mean, the Devs need to manage their time correctly, don’t you think?

/s

TL;DR: Anet doesn’t give a flying toss about their dungeon community. This idea is only enforced by the fact that they continuously ninja nerf harmless things like the dredge skipping cage jump and add some boulders in snowblind etc, while completely ignoring every outcry of the community on actually game-breaking issues.

I always wondered if the devs actually tested the dungeons half the time, to see if it was fun. I’d love to swipe one and jump in a pug run and watch what happens. I think it’d be an eye opening experience for quite a few.

Most of the time, it feels like they don’t.

I’m sure they to, but think of it: we players have MUCH more time to play those dungeons… most of us are probably better at those dungeon than most of the developers who build this dungeons (no offense to the Anet-team). Anet works around the clock (not meant literally ^^ ) on GW2 and I’m sure they can’t play the dungeons nearly as much as we do.

Imho they need some hardcore-dungeon testers to set the bar for the explorable modes quite high enough.

That’s how I see it.

That’s how I see it.

I’d pay 10 gold to every dev on the dungeon team to kill Simin pre-patch, before they made her a total joke. Hell, I’d send them detailed videos showing every single dungeon glitch I know in game, with narrated commentary of where their invisible walls are, how high they are, and how they need to adjust them so that players like me can’t skip around them anymore, if they pulled that off.

I’m pretty sure most of them didn’t even try half the content without their special dev skills that one shot enemies . Where was that live stream of devs playing WvW or something where one of them was spamming a poison field on a gate?

The devs are absolutely terrible at this game, which is the funniest part. They got their kitten kicked in PvP IN CLOSED BETA. Can you imagine? People that had been working on a game for basically, years, were beaten by a bunch of guys who had access to it for a couple of hours. Their opponents still had to figure out everything, yet after round 2 or 3, they beat Anet.

Ninja edit: for those reading about that dev skill, they had plenty of that stuff in GW1. I happen to know a guy that did some naughty stuff at the end of GW1 (start of 2012 I think), where they basically were able to summon up any item that existed on the servers. They summoned up Dhuum’s Scythe for example. And I’m not talking about the Dhuum’s Soul Reaper. I’m talking about people wielding the actual scythe that Dhuum wields. Basically people running around with a 30 foot scythe. There were a lot of funky items like explorer orbs, which were consumables that gave you 100% Cartographer (like world completion in GW1) etc. The devs usually don’t have time to test things properly. They usually test them using their funky dev stuff so that they don’t waste too much time on everything. Just checking if boss mechanics work, then one-shot the boss and move along to the next one.

There were some comments on threads that praised the new AC. When more people replied with something other than praise the threads disappeared somehow.

It does make sense for the devs to avoid arguments on the forums. Perhaps they feel that if they give opinions on dungeons they might only get arguments in return.

it really feels like after they complted the current game.. they probably moved to another project.. its hard to believe that the same people that made the game.. is the same .. the content after release is really poor..

no dungeon fixes.. no new armors not ..new weapons… interface improvements.. trade improvements.. no new maps… no permanent content.. i see more and more and more people mad at gw2.. its sad.. i still love the game.. but rage.. is going into diablo 3 direction.. the game feels abandoned at some points…. ..

Anet are possibly the least engaged developers i’ve ever come across. They hardly use their own forums, instead prefering reddit or twitter, and they provide verylittle information or feedback.

They seam not to care about longstanding issues and bugs, and the quantity and quality of content released leads me to question just how many people are working on the game, because it does not seam many unless there is some huge update in the works. I compare gw2 contet to rift in the first year and the difference is massive, and uet i doubt that anet are going to release an ember isle size update anytime soon…

I disagree, Cameirus. They show dedication to the game each time they talk about new stuff and answering in the forums, I just miss them in the dungeons-department. I feel like the focus on living story really hurt this part of the game. They may be working in the background on dungeons, but no word to us leaves people wondering what’s going on. New suggestions come in quite often and having the devs ignoring the dedication of the players by not saying a word like “I like this idea, but there are problems with…” or “this isn’t the way we want to go forward with GW2”… some one-liners like this is just a real pitty.

Anet wants our feedback, but we’re not getting theirs.

I agree that it’s kind of weird how the devs talk about the game outside of the forums. A developer answered some questions to people in the game which was VERY interesting… but why not simply use the forums? I really don’t get it. Stuff which is this heavy dungeon-related should be mentioned in the dungeon-forums imho.

Here’s what he said (dungeon-related stuff highlighted):

(Q:) Will we ever be able to go to Cantha?
(A:) (Paraphrasing) Cantha is definitely not cut from the game, you will just have to wait and see.

(Q:) Will we be getting more dungeons?
(A:) We will be continuing to work on our dungeons.

(Q:) (Follow-up) Old ones…or new ones?
(A:) Both!

(Q:) Will we ever see anything like raiding?
(A:) Our answer to raiding may very well be in the works!

(Q:) Is there anything being done to get people to want to spend time in their respective capital cities?
(A:) Yes.

(Q:) How is the LFG coming along?
(A:) Coming along great. We’re sorry for not putting it in sooner, but there aren’t enough hours in the day.

(Q:) (In whisper) Can you say anything at all about raid style content?
(A:) It is something I am very excited about and will be unique to GW2

(Cap of the exchange from above.) http://i.imgur.com/ExzO5dg.jpg

CC stands for “Community Coordinator” which is a title.

There has been developer feedback about dungeons many times over the past 7 months, with the most recent one (I think) being a little more than a month ago

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Molten-Weapon-Facility/first

That, however, doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been a severe lack of communication on the forums about how Anet plans to proceed with dungeons (which I agree with).

This is what Regina always did on the wiki too…

If you have to “forward” stuff to people to get them to see it, it goes without saying that they weren’t interested enough to actually do anything about it in the first place. I think a lot of us accepted a long time ago that Anet’s devs are always going to do what they think is best for the game. And that’s fine. Design is an “Art” first & foremost. Rushed content that people clearly weren’t enjoying themselves making, is the WORST content and we don’t want anymore more of that thanks. But they still do owe the paying customer some sort of best-guess as to when they can get back to this aspect of the game.

If it was important enough to have its own separate forum, then it’s important enough to keep a schedule posted so that everyone who takes a break from it knows WHEN to come back. That’s been the whole point of Guildwars since 2005… we’re not supposed to be only playing one part of it all the time. It’s supposed to be something we can put down and come back to later. So just clarify when “Later” should be, and everything will be squared away here.

I have to admit that to me dungeons also feel rushed. The reason for that is that

  • dungeon-mechanics can be broken by gear (berserker) and exploits (among real exploits I also include the clumping of enemies to kill them without any danger). See this for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZWfW9hOJeI
  • the lack of dynamic events in dungeons (it was stated that dynamic events make dungeons highly replayable)

Still, I see a lot of love in the design of the dungeons. What I think has gone wrong is the high complexity which arises when there is no trinity-gameplay. Working with those mechanics as a developer must be a nightmare imho, you can’t simply change something without consequences on another thing.

I think that it’s obvious that there are problems and developers shouldn’t be afraid of arguments and discussion. Sure, some players will be angry and trashtalk into oblivion, but there will be helpful discussions too; in the end we all want a better experience.

I think what has to be said by them is the direction Anet don’t want to take. They should clearly say: “sorry, what you’re suggesting isn’t the way we want to go with GW2 because…”. There were some suggestions about the defiant-system and how this could be removed; I’m sure there is a reason for it and different problems that would arise but there was no word from the team on this.

Yes, dungeons were supposed to be reworked, but what if Anet want’s to work on the defiant-system before (which takes time I guess) before they rework the dungeons with a new mechanic. We don’t know so we have to trust the team. It would help with that if they would talk to us though…

you’re not being very constructive here, I’m following them on twitter, facebook and none of these has exclusive information which isn’t released in the forums.

That said there are interactions between developers and players; I assume this happens in their leisure time. They don’t have to do this but it shows the dedication of them imho. I’d just wish they repost their stuff on the forums as well instead of relying on the people to do this. It would give the forums the importance those should have: the main hub for official information and place for discussion with the devs.

They all sound enthusiastic when we do hear from them….but it never makes it way into delivery of content.

I dont expect feed back in threads, even to the minimal level you suggest, it woudl jsut create expectation, but a post every month in each forum updating the players as to topics specific to that forums woudl be nice.

I woudl actually prefer more open world content, over dungeons, not that I dont want dungeons, but the big selling point of GW2 was open world dynamc events, and we’ve had very few updates to those overall since launch, far fewer than they implied would happen.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. First, I’d like to say that, even if the Dev team does not actively post in the forums they are always aware of what is happening. The mod team sees that they are informed of what is going on in the forums. However, we will forwad them this thread so they are aware.

Thanks a lot for your understanding.
Please, keep the discussion constructive and friendly.

Still Marcos, to be quite frank, it does not come across that way. We have seen these posts being made by several of ArenaNets’ workers. Transparency is something a lot of people attach a high value to nowadays and ArenaNet isn’t very transparent. A lot of questions are left unanswered and unresolved (see Southsun as a recent example with things like Crab Toss). People want answers and ANet should be giving them, if the tone of that person was correct to begin with. My suggestion: actually do something with ‘customer service’. I know that when an account is blocked you guys are a great help and issues get resolved, but we would like more answers on the forums as well.

Your majority might not be on the forums, but the ‘core’ players are. These are the ones you’ll want to keep happy and give answers to pressing issues.

to be frank, if this game doesn’t step it up in it’s group content by the time the new mmo’kitten (TESO and especially wildstar, a game that oozes group content in every aspect of it’s design) GW2 will loose a major chuck of it’s player base

Players play mmo’s to do stuff together… period

If you are looking for a cozy mature Dutch guild (EU) let me know.

Good point, those ‘core’ players also spread the word in-game.

I think Anet underestimated this part. If any “core” player having debate w/ those “carebear” players in public forum about GW2’s content, who’s going to win most of the time? Not only that, their words carry weight within their circles.

People are too serious of their knowledge.

Another good point. I consider myself inbetween those two. I get on and play almost everyday. Lately I’ve been having less fun and spending less time playing. Updates used to excite me, I don’t even care about this one. The wings look cool, but that’s about it. I’m pretty sick and tired of temp content.

When I’m online playing it’s okay, but sometimes I wonder why I’m not having fun anymore. Then i read the forums and say “oh… yeah… that’s why”

RIP in peace Robert

This is why I stopped playing. I have a couple videos that I can’t even bring myself to commentate at this point because I’ve moved to other games and just don’t really care anymore.

The recent story content and the gameplay/guide videos put out by a couple devs recently basically killed any hope I had of them improving anything related to challenging/teamwork based content outside of the very light, casual friendly stuff related to the living story.

And every month that goes by without something being communicated on the dungeon front it’s just a worse and worse feeling if you’re not totally gung-ho about the casual fluff and gem store RNG parties. That Snowcrash dev says “they will be continuing to work on them”, yet here we are in June with the Dragon Bash (ugh) event and data miners picking up info on the future release which will be more gem store garbage for late June/early July.

How long can we go without something concrete happening to dungeons and fractals? Without us even being told that something is actively being worked on?

At this point I’d be willing to bet large real money amounts on nothing in 2013.

Retired. Too many casuals.
