Hopefully there is a “consume all” option for stacks.

Stuff like this already existed in GW1; I am glad to see it make a comeback in GW2.

I learned today that the consume all option is on the drinks. Woo!

I have not played a lot of GW1, but from what I’ve seen, those achievements are always available… They don’t reset, so you could work on them year after year without losing progress. GW2 festival achievements reset every year (Masterful Toast, the item rewarded from 10k drinks, states it is only available during Wintersday). So if they follow the GW1 trend with the Festive Imbiber achievement, it would make me glad too

Please consider having a few Wintersday beverage merchants around Divinity’s Reach who would sell the drinks for karma (account bound of course).

10,000 beverages is a lot, an incredible amount for a time limited achievement. The price of drinks is not going down but up in fact. It is becoming less of an achievement and more a case of who can afford to spend the money (in game coin or real world) or time to farm them out.

It would be a real shame to see people who did all the other achievements for the Winter’s Presence but just couldn’t afford to purchase drinks or farm for the whole holiday for enough drinks. Please consider making this collection more about holiday fun and less about the farm and/or having vast wads of gold.

Please understand I’m not saying you shouldn’t have to do something to earn this achievement, but 5,000 drinks would have been a lot more reasonable and doable for people who are not rich and have a life outside of this game. As it is 10,000 please, please, pretty please do consider this as an alternative that still fits the holiday. By selling drinks for karma, players could go about, do events, have fun, enjoy the holiday and still purchase drinks towards the achievement. Everyone wins!

Successful opportunism is often indistinguishable from a masterful plan.

Hi guys,

Just hit 1k drinks today….3 days in.

Now these last 3 days I’ve been farming pretty hard on these gifts. Playing at least four to six hours a day of nothing but Xmas, maybe more.

I’ve also been emptying the vendor every day with karma, getting the 100 gifts that I can before the snowflake tier.

It has still taken me 3 days to hit 1k….which means 10k will take a month of me farming at this rate….and that’s assuming I don’t run out of Karma.

I don’t even know if this event is going on for a month…and if it is it requires probably and average of 5 hours of xmas a day and 200k karma a day to achieve….

So my question is….can this be done without putting some gold into it?

As I said before, I don’t really have a problem with it since I have the gold to buy it outright….but I know a lot of players who don’t. Probably the majority, and some of my newer friends are lucky if they have 50g on them at any given time.

So I DO think Anet did this shoulder piece better. It’s much more play intensive rather than money gate….

However, if the 10k drinks literally CANNOT be achieved within the time limit of the event…(Still unknown)….then there IS still a money gate.

Has anyone else been able to farm over 1k in these last 3 days without spending any gold in a significant manner. Ex: Does anyone have 2k drinks over these last 3 days just from farming?

Also for those of you wondering how to farm it.

  1. Toypoc: Average 140 Gifts an hour done well
  1. Bells: 196 Bells and hours (Varies depending on luck with new maps)
  1. Jumping Puzzle: I’ve personally hit 13 successful runs in the 30 mins, netting me 260 an hour. This is 2:30 seconds a run. I have been told that a guildy saw someone with 15 at the end of one. This is 2:00 per run, non stop, no mistakes. I really can’t see anyone getting faster than that and this would net him 300 gifts an hour.

So….its 150-200 guaranteed gifts an hour depending on luck with choir.

Or 300 Gifts an Hour if you are just a monster at the JP with some luck on the presents and no mistakes.

So….what do you guys think?

If this event last 2-3 weeks…I really don’t think it can be done without gold.

If it lasts a month+……I think it can be done….but still pushing it unless they leave it out until the end of January.

This is what Arena net wants lol, they designed this to make the impatient people spend tons of gold on the drinks too put gold into people who want to sell them/need golds pockets. This is what Guild Wars 2 is turning into all we can really do is accept it. If they do end up lowering it I will be honestly shocked, however that’s likely impossible. Happy Grinding everyone.

It’s very doable without buying any gifts with gold, it’s just mind-numbingly monotonous and drawn out.

If you do 500 boxes a day you’ll get to 12,500 boxes (10,000 drinks at 80% droprate) in 25 days. 500 boxes = 50 jump puzzle runs @ an average of 2 min per run every day = 1h40 min a day. Factor in fails and call it 2-2.5hrs a day. A bit less if you’re willing to drop 150k of karma a day on the vendor boxes.

It’s not even about being impatient. You HAVE to be impatient because there is a time limit. I would be willing to work on this for long long time. I would be okay if the drinks stacked and I could continue my work for it during next years Wintersday but we just dont know at this point.

Even if they did do something like reduce the cost or possibly put the drinks on the karma vendor for a price, hundreds of people have already spent thousands of gold to finish there shoulder already. they’d need some compensation or tell those people oh well.

Apparently the achievement will remain, but they can’t do anything about the text itself. Which indicates they aren’t going to change seasonal stuff while it is active (for Dwayna knows why reasons) – nothing new on that front though, was the same way with previous seasonal events.

So…

We can finish drink achievement year round, but we’ll still be paying out the back end to get it if we don’t farm all we need now. And this obviously does nothing about the JP complaints.

Good news / bad news kind of a thing.

The achievement might stay active, but with the actual drinks you need to complete it going away after the event it kinda defeats the purpose imho. And one box a day from the Christmas tree in our home instance isn’t a viable method.

If ANet would just lower the number required to 2500 or add cooking recipes to the vendor so we can craft the drinks ourselves, now that would actually help.

Anyway JP isn’t so bad, you only need to do it 3 times for the achievement related to Presence :/ Took me 2 hours to be able to do it once, and then I nailed all three back to back in a very short while afterwards (just pick the same path so that you end up knowing it with closed eyes and the snowflake part will do itself alone)

Yeah, pretty much.

I’m not sure how the JP is for me. Don’t think I’ve ever done the Wintersday one. Not sure if I’ll get around to trying it by event end, after all the salt on my tongue from this “journey” of a collection. If I try it and it’s not as bad as Clock Tower, maybe I’ll get it done. Clock Tower was pretty annoying, but I got it eventually once.

It’s easier than clock tower for having done both
It is time gated because the snowflake end up destroyed, but it’s not as stressing and you have plenty of time.
The most stressing part is the gift one, where they end up popping under you, but just go straight ahead and never stop jumping and you’ll be done in no time.
Definitely better than clock tower. The most horrible part of presence is the 10k drinks, and it’s the only thing I have left to do and I’m a pvp hardcore that rarely venture in the pve world, so yeah… totally feasible.

Easy way to solve the supply issue and the repetitive task for the 10000 beers AP is to make all mobs around Tyria has a chance to drop presents.

This would increase the supply of presents to counter the excessive demand, while not forcing you to do one activity for the whole month.

Another simple solution is to make all the festival beers gran 4 points of contribution instead of 1, like most of the other beers in Tyria.

Many beers in Tyria grant 4 points toward the drunkard title, no idea why this seasonal beer should be an exception.

They don’t need to change the requirement.

All they need to do is change the points given per each alcohol, or increase the supply by making mobs drop presents.

I really wanted this shoulderpiece, I don’t have the time, I don’t have the gold, and even if I did I probably wouldn’t do it because it’s so painfully numbingly boring.

Stop trying to cover up your lack of content with this kittenty grind, it’s ridiculous. The only thing carrying your game is the core game that some talented devs created before leaving the company, I would never recommend this game to anyone in this state.

Anyone else thinking that this is Anet trying to sneak in another gold sink on us? I mean, unless they are planning on making them available at other times of the year, this is ridiculous and the only source is the trading post (as in Anet getting their standard 15%) which will get ridiculous expensive once Wintersday is over and the source for the drinks dries up.

As I posted just before this, I think it is them trying to sneak in a gold sink. By making the availability limited to the festival event, it drives up demand on the trading post, while not specifically penalizing the people buying them, it IS acting like a gold sink in this respect.

I do agree with the idea that they are being ridiculous on the number of drinks it counts towards. Even the drinks you can get for 16c are worth 2 drinks on the achievement track.

My suggestion for a solution would be to have a vendor available during the rest of the year as well, have the merch sell them for karma or game gold, either one would work for me.

If I remember correctly, this event has run longer than most, over the last few years.
This year it easily could. If you apply some of the posted numbers here to a 6 week event then the numbers lose all their drama and it’s easier to reach the goal.
The event is in one spot and could likely be running at the same time as other things.

This is all just speculation until we find out how long the event is.

If someone gets the answer to how long this Wintersday event runs, please post it here.

I wonder how they’ll make sure the achievement will stay after Wintersday?
I mean it is clearly a Wintersday achievement and they’re usually taken away after Wintersday ends. After all it’s THE achievement that gives us the item needed to complete the collection.
Or will it be converted from seasonal to standard? I just don’t get it.

As for the gifts and your anxiety that there won’T be enough for everyone during the year: A lot of people have that tree and sell their gifts every day. Each year there had been a huge supply on gifts on the market, although you could only gain them through the tree, as well as that, there will be a constant supply of drinks.
And they’ll drop in price too. So no need to fear. x)

I’ve always been able to buy 10k’s of gifts during the year to do the poker for the exotic waterbreather – which now seems to drop more often than before.

I’ve gotten everything for Winters Presence but the drinks. At the time of posting, I’m sitting at 700 drinks, and that’s with playing far more than I really should be right now. I’m abysmal at the JP (it’s frankly a miracle I completed it 3 times), Toypocalypse is incredibly repetitive and dull to me, and while I do like the bell playing, it also is quite dull (more song selection would be amazing). I dunno. I don’t consider myself casual, but I’m nowhere near hardcore (played since launch, just this year broke 100 gold for the first time), so this just seems so out of reach. The only reason I think I might be able to make it is because my husband agreed to give any drinks he acquires to my character.

All that said, it is purely cosmetic, so I can’t rage about it too hard. I just like playing dressup.

The only good thing about that is i can farm the achieve till the next wintersday
The issue is the drink prices will sky rocket as time flies by
Why?
Its simple ,when the wintersday event ends the supply of the winterday gifts reduces drastically, and only obtainable through the home instance – one a day or the TP

If you really want to do it the cheaper way, NOW is the time

When i saw the 10k drinks for the first time I was like, ok this will take a while but i’ll be able to do it.

Then I realised that is pretty much over 500 gifts a day.
Then I realised JP is pretty much the only efficient way to get these 500 gifts in a decent ammount of time unless you want to nolife bells for half a day.

Then I realised this JP is just a kittening RNG fest (yes, the box part is RNG BECAUSE YOU CANT CONTROL THE AMMOUNT OF PLAYERS TRIGGERING THIS)

Then I realised i’m stuck doing bells because this JP is kittening me off to no end for the reason stated above.

I have to say I am also extremely disappointed in the threshold for this achievement. I understand where people are coming from regarding grind being somewhat of an expected endeavour to gain special things in Guild Wars but it’s frankly depressing. I have other things I want to do with my life at Christmastime and it would make more sense to place 1,000-5000 as the absolute max. The persistent Bell Choiring is setting off my RSI. I’ve put in so many hours and I’m only at 1.2k. I do not have the time or in-game gold to purchase it any other way than grind (which doesn’t even look achievable).

It’s just going to be that people who do get the skin won’t feel like “good for you, you did awesome”, more like “wow, your literal life is spamming keys”. Like many others I will have to hope that enough people give up that booze is cheaper, unless this threshold is adjusted.
