Topic says it all 28 black lion chest keys not ONE uncommon item or better… is it worth it? I have my answer, feel free to drop your (most likely) sad or (if your lucky enough) awesome drop rates below, so we can come to a better understanding as to how awful it is to add festival specific items like the new grasping glider! I used my appreciation key and got 2 uncommons. decided to buy 5 keys. first of all why on earth one of the slots is taken by a worthless ToT bag? got 2 revive orbs one scrap and unidentified dye. GG Anet! please fix this. its a robbery

And yet their metrics will show one person bought a chunk of keys ( I am assuming you did buy them?) and if you buy more, it shows you are willing to keep going with the gamble. If many others try that, all it shows them is that the system is successful.

The more players invest in them, the greater the likelihood of their metrics showing the system works is.

I’m no fan of poor RNG in lockboxes, but they do seem to be working as intended when players keep buying them with that hope of a lucky drop or mass buying as RNG tests.

Yep 25 more keys 2 uncommon mad dye kits… I am done with black lion keys… This is robbing people blind. 53 Black lion keys 2 uncommon 51 common… I expect RNG believe me I do… but this is too much…

I think they nerfed chance for black lion tickets, opened 30 keys (one per account) and i got like 5 scraps and no ticket. Or anything else worth mentioning.

BL chests are designed to bags of junk, with a small chance of something interesting and a super tin chance of something valuable. They are intended to be rewards; they offer a momentary thrill of anticipation that this time, you might be lucky.

Buy them if you appreciate the entertainment value; ignore them otherwise.

Well I expected nothing and still got disappointed. It was not even worth logging in my accounts to get these.
I hope Anet only nerfed the chances until people wasted their free keys.

Anyone foolish enough to buy these shouldn’t be complaining.

They are never a good purchase in any game where they are available. This should have been even more obvious with the 1 free key and seeing 1/3 slot being forced into being a junk item(ToT bag).

Plus it’s looking like the 2nd slot is first row of common and the 2rd slot is 2nd row common and if you get a 4th slot, it’s uncommon/rare/super rare.

Plus it’s looking like the 2nd slot is common and the 3rd slot is uncommon. If you get a fourth slot, that’s the rare/super rare.

A booster is 100 gems. That puts it in the 20-30g range. A ToT bag is less than 20s at the peak.

I got the ToT bag, an unidentified dye and a transmutation charge so your theory is also wrong.

I hope you realize there are more tiers to satisfaction, not good and bad. ToT bag is worse than a booster in my eyes, but I never really enjoyed getting boosters either. Then again, I’m no fool to buy RNG box keys.. I open all my chests with map complete/story keys and stuff like this. At least I nearly have my 3rd ticket now :P

Maybe they weren’t worth much but getting something thats not worth much is still better than loosing the slot an getting nothing at all.

Replacing something people considered to have a low value with one that has even less value is not an improvement.

When people ask for change they generally expect improvements. Change is not automatically good, this also applies to all the people asking for balance. Just because there is a change doesn’t automatically mean there were improvements made.

I got the free key and used 5 I had saved, for 6 tries. I ended up with 3 slots on 5 and a 4th slot on one that had the new glider in it. Outside of the normal common stuff, I ended up with 3 scraps and 2 of the account unlocks. The account unlocks gave me the mini undead chicken and a soaring skin. So, I found RNG to be on my side today.

+1 IWN. These things are basically slot machines with a guaranty of getting SOMETHING out of it, even if it junk.

They give you something because if they give you nothing like a real slot machine, then it would truly be gambling. This way it is NOT gambling because you actually are guaranteed to get three items.

The problem is is that like a real slot machine, you can pull it 50 time and still get nothing or something minuscule.

If you believe that you will EVER get anything valuable, then you are fooling yourself. As IWN said above, if you are buying keys and opening these things for anything other than entertainment, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. That is not Anets fault, that is yours.

On a positive note, I managed to get the new glider (not exactly a pinnacle of beauty, but that’s besides the point) twice within 6 chests, the game was kind enough to take the second unlocked glider and replace it with two black lion keys, stating that it does this with all account bound rewards you already redeemed on your account.

Odds, RNG, percentages, all of it is a lie. Everything in life is 50/50. You’ll either get it or you won’t. It’ll either happen or it won’t.

It’ll either rain or it won’t. C’thulhu exists or he doesn’t. When you loot a mob with 1% MF or 500% MF, you’ll either get a pre or you won’t.

If you don’t think you’ll get that Permanent Hair Dye Kit, then don’t bother. If you do, keep buying gems or farming your brains out to buy them with gold.

EDIT: People need buy keys with the skeptical viewpoint of: “I won’t get anything good.” Then you’ll experience real joy when you do. And when you don’t, you won’t be disappointed.

But then from playing PvP for a year and a half off and on, I’ve had 12 ascended armor chests, 7 weapon chests and 14 ascended rings. I guess my luck is going else where.

Plus, the way rare items go into a 4th slot seems to indicate that the generation of a rare item doesn’t work the way you and others seem to think it does. From dulfy:

I bet all the guys complaining would probably demand their money back if they lost it at a casino. That’s the point of BL chests. They’re a gamble.

Anyone remember way back when Anet first released the permanent contracts in bl chests? Some guy made a reddit post saying ‘I really don’t like wasting money on all the consumable contracts, so I decided to spend $2000 dollars buying keys to try and get the permanent ones’.

Was good for a chuckle and showed so elegantly why garbage RNG boxes will always be profitable for companies.

Yes, but it is taking one slot away of getting a BL Ticket Scrap too.

And, the BL Ticket Scrap is worth 10% of a BL Ticket, which means it’s worth about 5-6G. On average, I would get one every 2 chests. So now I only have 2/3’s the chance of gaining 2.5-3G to get 5s.

With the removal of boosters and the categorization of the item types, the loot tables and percentages have likely changed. You might not have lost that 2.5-3g scrap. You might have lost one slot and gained a statistically significant higher chance at the scrap, significant enough that the average output of scraps might still be around what it was… we just don’t know either way.

Sorry, but I don’t remember anyone ever saying that you could get 3 rares in the black lion chests. If you’ve got link to such a thing, then that would mean you’re right and it didn’t work like that ‘before.’ If you don’t, then the chests could have been restricted to 1 rare at most for all we know.
