I seriously don’t understand why people in this game are so entitled to birthday gifts. In the 6 years I played WoW people never complained, they appreciated whatever they got.
Heck, for the 8 year anniversary Blizzard didn’t even give the playerbase a gift, they just made a video summarizing the raid bosses that have been slain throughout the years, and people loved it.

Honestly I hope they give us a level 80 scroll. I’ve been playing 2 years, I’ve made 8 level 80’s, map completed 3 times and done living story/personal story on all my characters. I’m tired of leveling and I want to change one character to a different race but I’ll be kitten ed if I’m going to relevel again. I’m too tired of it. Hell, at least in factions I could L20 in 2-3 hours.

Yup, totally. Because the 12+ I got a year ago were going to waste, otherwise. And I really don’t think I’m going to start 12 more characters with the current kitteny trait system. I (re)made one, just to give it a fair shake. Sadly, it failed to exceed my forgivingly low expectations.

Well, if you did start 12 more, you’d only postpone the problem as those 12 would get a scroll on their first birthday :p

a mini something (perhaps pale tree)

though i’d really love random eternal tonics like gw1s 6th birthday!

Maybe keep the minis account bound but instead of just 1, have the option to choose between 5-10 unique minis?

I kind of suggested this during the 1st anniversary where instead of a queen Jenna we would have a choice between Queen Jenna, Anise, Pale Tree avatar… Etc…

We are closing to the 2nd birthday of the game. Those who have pre-started the game willl have at least 1 character that turns to 2 at 25th of August.

I think we get the usual bday booster, some very “exciting” mini and the experience scroll.

But for the 2nd bday of the game i was awating something bigger. New race, precursor scavenger hunt, new dungeon etc…

What you think we get?

I think we will get continued silence on the WvW board. Trivial, in-game fluff can’t compensate for trust and won’t generate goodwill for what feels like an abandoned portion of the game.

NCAnet have adopted that model. They’ll no doubt release something that undermines the whole point of toons birthdays. Level 80 scrolls for all toons at level 80 or something. Mini Queen Jenna in the fiery tier 3 gear etc. as an eff you lol

Technically, even amongst minis in the TP you have some that are 50 gold + and others which are of better quality for only like.. 10 gold.

Plus that entirely depends on the person. In the case of Guildwars2, and Guildwars, I don’t think that argument works. Unless you have for example one mini that just stands around, and then another mini that makes attacking animations at enemy (No damage), makes comments at certain NPCs (and vice versa) and the like.

I mean look at the Mini Karka. It’s not even that amazing as a mini compared to others, possibly a bit big, but it’s not like.. Super cool or such. It’s just rare and pretty much impossible to get now really.

But what does this have to do with the thread topic? We were talking about presents not mini pets from the gemstore.

The principal is the same. You’re talking about gifts and value equality and stuff. If people decide the value however, then the value of gift can’t really be based on an Unestablished value.

In essence, there will always be a gift or present that some people will think is better than others, even if it isn’t.

GW1? Good feedback? Wut? I can tell you one thing in my playtime (which was pretty much until GW2 got released) I never got a green minipet. RNG shouldn’t be a factor when it comes to presents.

Have you checked recently? Been two years now.

Wrong. The stuff we get is on our characters’ birthday. A character you created in December 2012 gets the very same stuff that the release day toons are gifted with.

As for their birthday (28 August 2012)… it wouldn’t hurt them (on the contrary) if they released features and content that the vast, vast majority of the player base would fancy. Something that could potentially save the game, extend its lifespan, keep people playing, and/or lure back many old quitters.

Imo, the number of posts expressing displeasure about the first year birthday gifts are because it feels so much like ANet just “dialed them in”.

1) birthday booster: either broken or incorrect tool tip. It says you get 100% karma boost for 24 hours. You don’t. This was pointed out very soon after people got this booster. Did ANet quickly fix it, either by putting in the karma boost or editing the tool tip? No. After a year, after multiple posts in general discussion and the bug forum, has this been fixed? No.

2) same mini for every char that you have. Most people have a minimum of 5 chars. A large number of people have a full set of 8 professions. There are many people with more than 8. What does this imply about ANet? It didn’t occur to them that giving people 5 or more identical minis for their birthday looks, idk, dialed in? It occurred to them but they were indifferent? How hard would it have been to take some care, make a set of birthday minis? They could have used the birthday minis from Guild Wars 1. That would have been special and thoughtful. Or they could have sent one Jenna to each account if that was too much trouble.

3) the 20 level scroll, after a year most people have already gotten all the professions they want to use and most are level 20 or above. In addition there’s no apparent prospect of even one new race or profession. Truthfully it has the feel of gem store on it. To use this, most will have to buy a character slot from the gem store.

People can tell when presents are given with little thought or care. It really felt like it was a bother for them to do this. That they felt like they had to do it because it was expected by so many but their heart wasn’t in it so they dialed it in.

I have to agree that I would love an everlasting tonic usable during combat. Kuunevang V2.0 would be outstanding. Thinking of the swatches, something like that, but for mini’s would be great. Pick any account bound mini from earlier in the game. I’m only thinking account bound to prevent a value-based choice and sell-off, but tradeable wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Someone mentioned BL Tickets… what about 1 ticket per character turning 2 with a bonus of every skin going on sale for 1 ticket as a game based celebration? Everyone gets a chance to pick one skin from earlier (other than the “retired” ones, unless they come back temporarily as well) as long as they have a toon turning 2 along with the game. Anyone without a toon from the start can still take advantage of the cheap skins as long as they get/have tickets.

Anything is a bonus; as long as you keep that in mind, you can’t be too disappointed.

My prediction of the 2nd birthday present is: 1 swim speed booster, 1 black lion ticket scrap, 1 stack of black lion chests and 1 piece of zhaitaffy.

500 gems in the store would be all, enough for me to be happy. It is, after all, 2 years playing this MMO.

Makeover kit would be nice as an alternative, along with another thing or two. But I would rather have the gems, it’s like do I want my sister to get my some random tie for my birthday or the cost of the tie and let me buy what I would rather have.

But if there should be some decent/good reward for GW2’s anniversary, I won’t be able to participate because I’ll be on holiday. As it is I’ll probably have to set aside some gems to unlock a few LS episodes for when I get back :-/ kinda annoying.

I sort of wish the birthdays were tied to your account age and not your character age. It would eliminate the 9 of this, 9 of that, type of thing. Would also encourage anet to do better rewards since each account will only obtain one of said item.

I would love to see the GW2 hardware make a return:
-GW2 Keyboard/ Mouse/ Headset/ Comp Cases (maybe with taimi?)

A unique miniature, something that can’t be duped with some other type of
mini off the trading post look wise. (Mini Zhaitan/Birthday Quaggans?)

A unique title every year your turns a year old would be neat as well.

You are lumping two topics into one response. The initial point of this thread was about 2nd birthday awards for characters.

Perhaps you meant to quote someone who did this, but without the quote it appears you made the wrong assumption.

This might screw with the economy a fair bit, so I doubt they’ll implement this.

Actually, as a card carrying hoarder, there is a small part of my brain that silently approves of having 11 Jennahs (eventually 14). I will even admit to sneaking into my collections sometimes just to check that they are all safely tucked away there and not lost in someone’s inventory. I think that the person who approved the decision to issue the one mini to all birthday celebrants must have been a fellow hoarder and he/she has probably been rather perplexed at all the grumbling when they thought everyone would be delighted. That is, of course, if it wasn’t some stressed executive with too much work and too little time who just wanted to get the job done.

So, I will be happy with whatever Anet gives us for our second birthday. I would totally approve of another 11 (eventually 14) Jennahs with a different coloured dress (be still my beating heart).

My prediction:

- Mini Dragon minipet (the one we’ve seen in the wardrobe for a while)

Hopefully we’ll get something other than another level 20 scroll. I still have 10 of those and have no more plans to create new characters unless a new race is introduced.
