Long ago, a dev posted on this forum (atleast I think it was here) that introducing a new playable race would be more likely than introducing a new proffesion. Sadly I can’t find the post, because the search function doesn’t work.
But with the first expansion we get a new proffesion, but no new playable race. So my question is, is this statement still true?

I’m asking this because I posponed making my Necromancer and Guardian, because I don’t want to run out of proffesions to roll when a new playable race comes out.

I thought it was the other way round, that the dev said a new profession was more likely than a new race?

Also, Colin ruled out a new race for the xpac at least, due it not bringing enough to the game.

I actually believe it was the other way around.
A new professions is more likely than a new race. Which makes sense, since professions doesn’t really effect story, while a race would basically require a completely new early part of the Vanilla Personal Story and so on.

I also seem to recall they saying something about before adding completely new weapons they would add the already existing weapons to the professions.

Krall Bloodsword – Mesmer
Krall Peterson – Warrior

You can’t find the post because it never happened. A new profession has always been more likely than a new race, because it’s much simpler to add new profs.

  • New prof requires skill balance (not a simple job, but can be done by ANet alone) and a few voice overs, ideally by the original actors.
  • New race requires 15-20 new instances for the early personal story, a lot of voice overs, a tiny bit of skill balance, probably a new racial city, new balance among racial stories, and re-evaluating the later parts of the p-story for continuity/updating.

PS If you want to do your own search, you can use Google instead type out the following:

site:forum-en.guildwars2.com inurl:forum _ _ _ _ __

Replace the ‘_ _ _ _ __’ with your search terms. You can also use advanced search techniques such as:

  • Put the search term in quotes for exact match.
  • Use a minus sign (‘-’) to exclude a term

I just did a google search, and I found atleast 4 other posts that point out that statement. But it seems the statement was done in a video interview and not on the forums, so I was wrong abouth that.
As for the new statements, I did not know abouth those.
