Still, RNG will be still there and so does farming duno why is everyone so happy about O_O. Yes now you will take credit for kills but 0.00000000000001% chance of a rare will still be there.

Yes but imagine everyone has the same 0.01% whatever chance of that rare.

Before my support Guardian would only get loot on every 5th mob, 90% porous bones because he was not full Berserker and Damage specced. I saw how everyone looted like every mob.

Of course everyone else would get 5x more yellows because the had 5x as often the chance to get one.

Also if loot rarity / quality is governed by who deals the most damage (I have to assume that since I got the opiniated feeling from my over 500 fractal runs that usually the high dps chars/players would get way more loot than anyone else).
Fixing that will fix alot of issues of people feeling they get no drops at all forever. (Because I played 80% of my time on my guardian in fractals where I did the least damage of the Group – however provided my Group with 2x more damage in buffs in what they lost with my reduced damage).

I’d be happier if champs gave a guaranteed green and vets a guaranteed blue, but honestly if they gave a gold for every champion killed, people would want an exotic for each kill within a week.

I don’t think you all understand. With loot tables you have a % chance to get a grey – orange. First you get rng for level of item, then also have rng for quality on an item.

Now when killing a champion you have this effect, : Kill champion, RNG Item Level, RNG Blue – Orange (exotic). So now you have a better chance to get a green, yellow, or orange based on the fact that grey and white items are taken away from the table, if not the quality is GUARANTEED to be at least Blue, which sells for a heck of a lot more than a grey or white.

Well, I’m excited about it. Removing everything below blues from Champions is a huge deal. This will increase chances of getting greens, yellows, and oranges by quite a bit – it just takes a very basic understanding of odds.

It is quite frustrating killing a champ and getting a porous bone and with this patch, this shouldn’t happen.

Totally agree they should have given it an immediate response and the most resources to handle the issue (much like the still ongoing bugs/design flaws in the two least played classes, engineer and necro, still waiting on this to be taken seriously as well)

The facts still remain that even with a slightly better drop rate (if that’s to occur we’ll see) they still have an ongoing DR issue, as well as major design flaws in the T6 mats aquisition where instead of adding them to a currency vendor for Karma or Laurels directly (ie I’m going to buy 4 onyx lodestones please, chaching 800 karma) we see them adding yet another set of RNG devices (bags of crafting mats that almost never drop gossamer scraps or any of the lodestones in my experience and cost 1 laurel in a time when there are no retro for the achievements we already have its kind of expensive for only 3 items per bag), RNG is the problem not the solution.

So we’ll see how this affects everything. It’s nice the finally found something but they should never have accused the public of being too imaginative or being conspiracy theorists. That was a terrible PR move on their part. Honestly the community deserves an apology from everyone who told the community that it was our imaginations that the loot had changed.

I’m sorry but this is the same Arenanet that claimed in their patch notes for 15th of November that the rare and exotic drop rate would be “greatly enhanced” (or words to that effect if not verbatim).

I’d like to be wrong about this, for the sake of the players in this game who’ve been jipped by Anet all this time, I really would; but until the patch is released and the findings come out I’m gonna say it’s more PR spin and call shenanigans.

1) Thank you for finally admitting the problem and promising a fix. I hope it goes better than the dye drop yoyo fix, as an example.

2) The lack of any apology for the situation occuring in the first place, and for the ridiculous amount of time it took to find the cause, is par for the course here. I have been soloing two or three champs a week for months to see if anything had been done, and getting no drops off any of them. I quit even bothering to report it as being insulted got old. Just to be sure I will ask, is there Any Possible Way you can Solo a Champion and FAIL to ‘do enough damage?’ I quit bothering to read the loot drop bug thread so this has probably been asked and answered already.

3) While an official apology would be nice, a better and much more sincere gesture would be an email containing 1 silver per day to EVERY PLAYER ACCOUNT in the GAME, for each day that player logged on at any time, during any day this bug was in place. Yes that would mean stupid stubborn people like me who did not just give up for having their time wasted would get a lot. And rational gamers who quit playing except once per week or month and started exploring other games – like just about every other member of my guild – would get less. But every player who still bothers to play would get CONCRETE evidence that those in power actually REGRET wasting our precious time and killing our fun. (Note also: my playing time has fallen to dailys only, I was beaten at last, and downloaded other games too so I could play with my friends again.)

4) I hope this is not a case of too little too late, as I really have come to like this game a lot. But if equitable rewards for time spent are not in place soon, and real support for meaningful guild activities does not occur, our group will be going to greener pastures.

Yes, blues are vendor trash. But what if champs would drop a yellow every time like some people here seem to want. Think for a moment beyond yourself and think how would that effect the economy.

They cannot make drastic changes like that without messing up the economy. Guaranteed blues also means higher chance of better than blue, and it’s a lot better than getting a porous bone.

In any case, let’s just wait for the patch before bringing in the pitchforks and torches again?

The economy might actually be affected in a positive way. Right now everything is so inflated by the lucky RNG rolls that everything on the TP is way more than it should be. Throwing rares into the game could stabilize things by adding all the ectos into the system. I am in no way an economist, just could see this helping things.

Indeed, and this is the question I would like answered. Are the removed categories, with respect to RNG % chance, now filled by blues, or, has the RNG % on rare/exotics now been increased?

Still, IMO, champs should drop minimum green and overall the RNG % with respect to green/blue minimum should be scaled based on the mobs level.

Champs should have a 50% chance to drop a rare, did you ever think why some crafting costs 250 ectos? Cause they were meant to be not so rare as they are now, where you need to spend around 120 gold ( A LOT) to buy 250 ectos thanks to the extremely low chance of rares and ontop of that low chance to get an ecto from a rare. Rares should be rare but not as much, exotics should be a little harder to get than rares are now, and rares should be easier to get. This way farming 250 ectoplasms wouldnt take a month or more.

I agree that Colin deserves praise for his level of engagement and he’s probably the best face Anet can put on right now. Loot is a fundamental problem in the game. I have noticed an improvement in the quantity of loot I receive in-game. But, quantity has not really been my issue. I’m more into intrinsic value and an occasional OMG moment out of a loot system. And, I would prefer predictable gathering so that crafting is a viable activity. I have really enjoyed that aspect of the MMO in other games.

Edit: Oh, my. Logged in after the maintenance patch and promptly had Venom drop. It’s aquatic, but a precursor nonetheless. I’d like to personally thank Colin or whoever flagged my account to get me to stop complaining about loot. I did want to let you know that I’m after Bifrost though, so it’s The Legend that should drop. But, hey precursor’s drop for real in the game. Wow.

While I agree, they did a good job investigating this issue. Give credit where credit is due.

But this thread needs to be locked. Mods need to be consistant. If I made a thread with Arenanet or an Arenanet employee in the title, and the thread had a negative tone(even if it wasnt derogatory or insulting), it would be locked and the reason would be that arenanet or employee callouts are against ToS.

But this is a happy thread about arenanet. So it stays open(and my post will be infracted). Blizzard forum mods treated its community in a similar way. Add this behavior on top of my ever-growing gripes about WoW, at the time, and it lead me to quit the game and not look back. When I ever think about returning, honestly the dark cloud I see over Blizzard’s head was their crappy forum moderation and the filtering of all negative things about their game. Can’t have bad press!

But, to stay on topic, yes good job on finding the bug. Looking forward to a fix.

After reading that post, I see there was NO change in battle contributions. For instance, I do a lot of support and lower dps than most of my group mates, hence, less rewards if any for contribution. But if I did not support them, we might wipe or not succeed in downing a Champion at all.

It would have been nice to see them include SUPPORT contributions in their calculation so that you were rewarded for your level of contribution not just dps/damage.

Some games have this, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see this in a future update.
