Am I the only one who hates Risen?
I love voice casting on these mobs man, I know I should “fear the rotten corpses rushing towards me!!!” but… hahahahah it’s so freaking funny! xD
Stop trying to face tank and use your abilities to dodge/mitigate damage and level 80 zones are easy to solo. Unlike traditional games, GW2 is all about AVOIDING damage through awareness and mobility instead of trying to sit there and absorb/heal away all the damage that comes at you.
If you’re into face-tanking and don’t really enjoy the active playstile GW2 promotes, it’s probably not the game for you =\
Why would I as a ranger, try to face tank. I dont have the hitpoints or AC of a warrior. You see there are these issues of, the mobs are faster then you when in combat, so kiting isn’t a simple thing. Risen also like to ignore your pets and the npcs that you might be fighting with in a story arc and come straight at you. Considering that you are slower than they are, you get a group on you, you are not getting away. Now in all honesty, I haven’t died that much, but when I do, it is exactly as I have described it. Full on gang bang right into you and dead! I am not new to mmo’s. Heck I have probably played them longer then most of the kiddies that play this game have even been alive. I think I can say with certainty that I see a balance issue here for normal non exotic and up armor people. In other words, the average joe, which is exactly who the game seemed to be marketed for at the time.
I have run an lvl 80 thief and a lvl 77 warrior to the gates of Arah. Rule is: when going through hell, keep going. Don’t stop!
Thief, I will drop Caltrops, Ambush, Thiefs Guild and if needs be hide in shadows to get them off my back. Warrior, I just keep jogging using Battle Standard or Signet of Rage to a burst of speed if I need it. Really dreading taking a weakling Mesmer there though.
I do get completely frustrated by the boredom of travelling through Orr. You can’t get your daily done because you only fight Risen and a small scattering of other things.
What I would do is run through as quickly as possible, grabbing waypoints as you go, and then use these to explore at your leisure.
