A feel mysrlf time and time again, craving more from this mmo, as well as others, if you are like me, you may find phsycological peace with this thread.

There is a big disconnect with todays MMO’s, let me sak you, where did you meet your clan? Do you feel like you actually need them? In some cases yes, but thats not the point im trying to make, but the thought matters, so keep reading while its f.resh in your head

Take a moment, and think back to your first approach to an MMO, where you playing with others? most likely yes, when you think MMO, you assume you will spend every moment of the game interacting with other players in some way. Anything you do, you want it to make a difference.

Is this possible? In guild wars, the answer is no, unless you are playing pvp, anything you do will just blend in with the rest of the envinment, and in the end, your actions made no change in the big scheme of things, in fact, most people will agree they would not be interested in completing a so called dynamic event mor ethan twice a day.

So, the equation is simple

P(2)=m/p=p(10)

P=players
M=mobs

Here, let me put it in words now tha you know how serious i am.

lets say the moment you approach lost shores, you see a village, an abandoned village. In the universe of guild wars, you stick to your allegiance (race), in this situation, you are a human. The town has a single leazon that works to send a message to each faction (Race) based on territory control, REAL control.

in order to gain control, you have to clear out said mobs (see equation) which are far too powerfull to take on alone, and act as a party of their own. The only way to win, is to set up camp in a particular spot. The longer you hold that area, the more local mobs that come to your location. If the camp holds strong long enough, the camp will become part of a percentage.

Percentage of your factions camps and the amount of mobs they have killed (which also clears the path for other players to traverse, making a difference) then goes to determine what land belongs to that faction.

For example, if lost shores belongs to the humans, then the humans get a shop there, which is stocked exclusively by the humans and works much like a local auction house, allowing a compitition free trade envirnment based on player work, rather than gold farmers who sit at the action house all day manipulating the item exchange. Humans also get local discounts on npc items like salvaging kits ect.

Each area owned grants a unique buff to all players of the faction, exp bonus, karma bonus, gold gain bonus, or stat bonuses.

So, instead of ariving at lost shores in its current dull state. You would be greeted by several members of your faction (race) who would gladly take you into thier pary, regardless of gear, skill, or relation. In this type of MMO, any player can help make a difference. No more worrying about being rejected or required to research a boss fight firsthand. Just come in, learn as you go, create clans of friends you actually get to play with without being rejected, and creating a competitive pve scene

Thank you for reading, please post your thoughts. No suggestions please, just say wheather you like it or not, thanks!

Guild wars 2 is an themepark MMO (content is controlled by the developers)
What you’re describing is a sandbox MMO (content is controlled by the players)
Here’s a very good video to watch about that
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvK8fua6O64
In my opinion guild wars 2 should not be changed into this kind of system. Why? It doesn’t fit the story. In the story all races and factions are attempting to unite to take on the dragons. They don’t assign land to specific race or faction, the land is for the union as a whole.
Though I do think that there should be more sandbox MMOs out there.

On a more serious note, I do agree that this game needs more interactivity, so people are more motivated to participate in dynamic events and actually feel like their actions matter, I’m just not sure if this is the way to go about it.

You’re talking about a completely different game, and one that I probably wouldn’t play. I play casually, often going online at odd times of the day and usually playing solo or with a very small group. After the initial rush of players, would there be enough people online to accomplish anything at 3 am? Or at 2 pm?

Your idea sounds a lot like the old MMOs like Everquest were in the beginning… but to reach a large enough audience you need to provide the game people want to play. If this was a more popular kind of game then there would be more games like this on the market.

There is one, and its been going strong for over ten years. It does not follow my formula to the T, but it derives from it a bit. Its called Final Fantasy 11 online.

And this formula would fit the casual gamer perfectly.. If you wanted to get on for 10 mins, go help a camp or just find a few mobs that strayed away from the main group, kill those! in the end, you will have helped your faction a little. Its even more casual friendly than guild wars 2 becouse you wouldnt even need to look for a suitible party, they would be visable across the land, and if you saw one of your faction, go help! No invite requests, no ques, just pure fighting to make a difference

Never played it, but over 10 yrs old means it opened during a time when those kinds of games were the only choice… so it sounds like most of the people interested in playing that kind of game already are.

So the question becomes, how do you convince tens of thousands of players to abandon the game they’ve played for 5 or 10 years and sign up with a brand new, untested game? It’s been tried, and failed.

Anyway, the point is moot because Arenanet is not going to shut down GW2 for a year or two while they completely change it and relaunch as a different game. If you’re planning to launch your own game, good luck and do lots of market research first.

High water mark for a themepark MMO subscriber base: between 11 and 12 million
High water mark for a sandbox subscriber base: between 350 and 450 thousand

Is it any wonder that developers build themeparks?

Yes, this is probably the limiting factor. Even the best ideas are going to be limited by hard realities such as box and digital sales.

I’ve only played a few hours but Neverwinter seems like it could be what your looking for as players can make their own content. Maybe have a look there?

As for GW2 it is what it is, however I don’t see them adding content what the player can control like player housing etc.

1. I played 99% of MMOs solo. Especially the levelling experience for most MMO games was a solo game.

2. I played 99% of GW2 with other people including jumping puzzles, dynamic events and the like.

3. In other MMOs my actions didn’t make the slightest difference. A farmer wasn’t attacked by mobs, he just said he was and required 100 centaur hooves.

4. In GW2 the world feels more alive, and actions do seem to make a difference, although that’s just the illusion being far stronger.

Conclusion: OP is wrong.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

I really have no idea what I just read but I think you are saying this game is to solo for you. I never played this game alone and my guild always did things together so I think you just need to find a good guild. There are good guilds and lots of nice people that play this game. Find a good and active guild and you will enjoy any mmo a lot more than playing it solo.
