As the title says. It feels Anet is being too hush hush lately (ever since the beginning of the last two Living Stories). There are some rather bug issues with the game ever since the feature patch and some not related to it, but we haven’t had Any word if a fix is being worked on or not.

Some of the issues i’m talking about are:

  • Megaservers not working properly with large guilds.
  • Not being able to select a specific copy of the map so Guild World bosses could actually happen without a hitch
  • Guild missions being finished by a few members of the guild on one copy of the map while the rest of the guild is on another copy still doing the event and not getting credit for it.
  • GW2 needs actual hard, end-game content. Tequatl is not hard, Triple-head wurm is not hard. Dungeons are not hard. Orr has been nerfed so much that it’s a cake-walk now; shameful that the final areas of the game are as hard as the first ones. Anyone saying it is hard, is only kidding themselves. Period.
  • Arenanet needs to stop tailoring the Whole Game to casuals. Casuals already plenty for their casual needs. Casuals dont stick around for long Anet, hardcore players do.
  • Build templates need to happen. I don’t know why there hasn’t been any word on it so far. We can already change traits whenever we want to.
  • Ranger CDI (this is mostly for those who still main a ranger), any news on when we might see some of the changes? Maybe allow a preview of those changes for feedback? Even if only some?
  • Speaking of Ranger, reminds me of pet AI. I know it’s allot of work since the pet AI is embedded within the game’s AI. But maybe that would also fix two problems. Improving pet AI could also let you work on improving the predictable and lacking AI present in the game at the moment. (They dont even run from 20 massive AoE attacks!)
  • Commander tags, will they remain as they are? Useless trains in PVE and EOTM?
  • Edge of the Mists, will it ever become something else other than champ/karma/Exp train? A map that took so long to be developed with alot of cool features that became useless because this map doesn’t impact WvW like normal. I know this map was put in place in order to deal with the large Queues, but they still happen. Could we get ONE copy of that map on the WvW tab bellow EBG that does impact WvW score and be able to queue for it? You can still have it as an overflow for those who wish to the trains and stuff. It would also give another map for people to further spread out and lower queue times.

I know, i know, “China launch!”. I get it, but we’re not asking for fixes right this very moment. Just word on whether it’s being worked on or not!

This isn’t much of a rant, it’s more of series of concern i have with a game i’ve grown to love over this past year. I’ve been present since launch, but these ongoing moments of silence and keeping things under wraps has reached an alarming level Arenanet. We don’t know what to expect from the game, At All!

Cheers!

My point is that your point, is pointless.

The problem of ‘hard’ content is that it’s not an objective thing. People thought TA Aetherpath was hard, then you got people breezing through it like AC P3. You say Tequatl is easy but looking at how most attempts end in colossal failure, I don’t know about that.

I will say this about megaservers: it has ROYALLY pooched the way that the PVE world train is handled, and has made taking down Teq and Tri-wurm a lot harder to organize.

It’s been good for some things too, but i miss the days of following a big ’ol PVE money train around without having to try to hot join on a friend (let alone get into my guilds Teq map without sitting there for, i kitten you not, half an hour spamming hot join on someone in my party already there because the map is full.

So which is it? They’re obviously not ‘quiet’ in the sense that they’re not saying anything.

They’re just not saying what you want to hear, which they may or may not be at liberty to discuss at this time (you know, for the things that actually have an answer VS a list of rants/demands).

Further, they may have already previously addressed your concerns and don’t feel the need to repeat themselves ad nauseam for every dozen posts that appear after the fact.

It’s not practical. Do a bit of research.

They answered the megaserver question. It’s new. Just came out. They’re aware of the issues (and you should keep posting about those, btw). They’re fine tuning it for you.

Expect something soon™. In the mean time, occupy yourself.

Erik: So will we start to see some of those questions start to get answered, or are you going to keep drawing that out so we see some nice speculation going and building up over the next twelve years?

Clint: Wait, you just gave him an excuse to sidestep it now. You don’t know how this works Erik!

Chris: I think that, not specifically in regard to your question, that it’s important to answer questions, that’s why we put the questions up.

It’s important for the players to work together with the iconics to get deeper into the lore and work out what’s going on and have amazing adventures and the sense of discoverability.

Which nicely segues me to: I’m sure that when people see this they’re gonna be like “Oh Chris, he hasn’t really answered much about Living World Season Two questions.”

Well, I’m doing that because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, and because of the way that our model works in terms of delivering new, fantastic, and mysterious adventures in the world of Tyria and in Guild Wars 2, it goes against that aspect of discoverability and players working together to find new areas, and discover new things and so on.

So I just don’t want to ruin anything for anyone by going into details like this, and plus not everyone’s gonna see it, what we’re talking about, so it wouldn’t be fair.

Hey guys,

I’m not the typical “spokesdev” around the forums, so I won’t be able to give you all the answers you are looking for about what’s next, but I’ll clarify a couple of points:

  • The “usual suspects” who you would typically get answers from on this front have unquestionably been super busy getting the game out in China. A number of our devs were in China for the launch this past week, so I imagine that in addition to the hard work they put in over there to get the game launched, they’ll be returning home, getting over jet lag and catching their breath. I hope you can all understand that, and we appreciate your continued patience. We’re all as excited to share with you what’s coming next, as you are to hear it.
  • There has been, and continues to be ongoing development on projects outside of China, with the team hard at work on Living World Season 2. I can’t say anything more than that yet, other than to reiterate that we’re excited to be able to share more info on it when the time comes.
  • Come and check out the Festival of the Four Winds on Tuesday! Even if you experienced it back in July, we had a small-ish team revitalizing it to celebrate the China release, and there will be new things to do and see. :-)

Anet has always been pretty quiet on the topic of updates and such. In the early days they used to talk more, but the result was a lot of angry fans when they weren’t able to deliver on schedule or ideas didn’t work out. Their silence is 100% a result of fans being unable to acknowledge the fact that running an MMO is a huge job and it’s hard to please everyone. We all want different things out of the game, and it’s hard for them to answer all those requests.

These days, they don’t give updates until they are ready for release, because that way no one makes a fuss if they’re behind schedule or things go wrong at some point. They absolutely make mistakes, but it’s important to remember that they’ve given us a game we care about and love, even with its flaws.

  1. Obviously they’re working on it. Just because they’re not posting every day with “Yeah guys, still working on optimizing Megaservers” doesn’t mean they’re doing nothing.
  2. Shouldn’t be necessary in the first place with properly tweaked Megaservers.
  3. Again, that’s another tweak for the Megaservers.
  4. I wouldn’t say that Orr was ever hard, just annoying with pulls, immobilizes and cripples all over the place.
  5. Separating the playerbase to “casual” and “hardcore” or whatever is ridiculous in the first place. ANet can make their content for whoever they see fit. And personally, I sure as hell do not want content where “Oh you have never done it before? GTFO casual!” happens every single time.
  6. They’ve said that build templates are something they are working on already.
  7. Improving an AI isn’t just a numbers game, it’s one of the most complex things in the game.
  8. So… what would you want out of commander tags?
  9. Edge of the Mists influencing WvW is tricky because it doesn’t use the same teams as your regular WvW. It wouldn’t really be fair for a lowest tie server to get a ridiculous advantage because they happened to share their EotM map with the best WvW server.

This thread will be shut down just like the last one of its kind was, so enjoy it while you can.
Anet dropped a bomb (megaservers) on us and then left with a “we’re busy” excuse. When we reach out to them with feedback, constructive or not, we are given mostly silence. When our cries of frustration grow too long – threads like this one are created and then shut down. Then after a long, painful month — they are ready to shove a pacifier that is the ‘Four Winds Festival’ down our throats, to shut is up like the wailing babes they view us as being.

Great client treatment. I’m sure it’ll work out for them.

Do hardcore players spend money in the gem store? Because I do, and I’m definitely casual. If not then hardcore players aren’t really worth catering to, since unlike WoW, this game does not require a monthly subscription, but is instead bought as a single purchase. If you’re not going to pay them repeatedly then you give Anet no incentive to listen to you any more than they would to a casual player who got bored and quit a week after buying the game – you have both earned them equal profits, after all.

Chris: Check this out, I was in Starbucks this morning. This is a true story. There was this kid behind the counter and he’s looking at me, and the place is pretty full and its not that loud. He looks at me and he sees my t-shirt and he goes “You’re the guys that deliver content every two weeks!” I should have come back and said, “You should come work for us in marketing.” Then we started talking about games and he was talking about League of Legends and he just started playing Guild Wars and how much he loves the updates.

Well, I believe that Megazergers and LS are already working as intended for the “kids from Starbucks” target audience.

Uh. Noxxic is a site for build templates. It really has nothing to do with ‘content’, other than build fixes.

Which also leads to the other 5 sites that are listed in that closure statement, with 3 having gw2 in the site address as waning down support. What’s their excuse? One’s a site that list skills and items to be bbcoded into other sites, and the other 2 are also build sites.

Doesn’t seem to me as it has anything to do with ‘unadulterated heads up’, but if it makes you happy to think so while polishing your armour so that it shines and testing you shield arm reflexes, then so be it.

Oh so only because the hardcores don’t spend as much – which is only true because BECAUSE the game doesn’t keep them there – we should just get ignored. And for the record: by hardcore i mean people who do like challenges instead of QQing on the forums when something is “way too hard! plz nerf!”. Cause posts on the forums like that are just plain stupid and those people haven’t realized how slowly they are killing the game. Let me put it bluntly: the easier a game is, the more it’s catered for 12 yrs old. And 12 yrs dont make such a good community. Exceptions among the 12 yrs old exist of course.

Politicians are also very good at this.

My i point out that saying something “is not saying any thing” is not a means of argument to proves or disprove a point.

I guess they could just say every thing that about to come out but not for 3 months down the rode etc… but then they are accused of over hyping things so what is the “right” way of doing this?

BTW “Politicians” are far better at disproving info with out any backing then saying nothing. You would make a great politician.

  • Arenanet needs to stop tailoring the Whole Game to casuals. Casuals already plenty for their casual needs. Casuals dont stick around for long Anet, hardcore players do.

They are a business, y’know.

This isn’t much of a rant

Yeah, sure it isn’t.

Any special reason why you presume “hardcore” players don´t pay? I´d even bring up a courageous thesis: I think hardcore players pay more, the basement dweller personality is a myth (past teenage years at least). Good players are probably achiever personalities that will do better in life than casual players and hence have more disposable income :P

But anyway, GW2 is beyond the pale. It is a great game – for people who also enjoy the Sims and Farmville. And I sincerely don´t mean this as an insult. It is a viable and vital target audience. And GW2 is very succesful economically. So the most reasonable thing to do is not adding content in the difficulty league of Marionette and LA siege. Queensdale train and Shatterer are really the things that should set the tone for future additions. This game has no place for me in the long run, but that doesn´t make it a bad game. As long as there are different ones – which, in the MMORPG market, becomes less and less likely.

Taken from Noxxic as I was looking for a build template:

Guild Wars 2 Closure

May 15, 2014

TL;DR
We couldn’t keep up with the constant content.

Anet refuses to give us an unadulterated heads up so we might be the top resource/leak this information pre-release.

We’re not as cool as Dulfy. We tried. Also GW2 isn’t to our taste anymore, check out our other games we do support! <3

Nice try though. Tryharder next time. You might bear fruit for your efforts.

Maybe. I’d have to give a kitten in that regard, trudging through a long winded letter that can be summed up in “we quit lol”. Kthx, send me your stuff maybe?

But to humor you, I went through that list of websites. They’re all still up. Is Noxxic presuming to speak for them or is he just throwing that out there because reasons?

Not yet updated != Quit.

So if all Noxxic was for is a build site, seriously, what’s their excuse again? How does that tie into Anet not sharing information with them?

It’s like they don’t even put up a list of skill changes and balance plans months in advance for community criticism.

Maybe if Anet did something like that, they would be awesome. Oh wait…

Or rather is that the poster superimposing that as a reason? From what I read, they’re just done with GW2 because they don’t like the end-game and do not consider it competitive.

That’s fair. It’s their website, his life. Never knew of it myself.

But I must confess, I skimmed that for the large part. But what I gathered from it I consider sound.

Penny for your thoughts?

Relics of Orr interview with Chris Whiteside posted yesterday ~~

http://www.relicsoforr.com/p=3256

Interview with mister marketeer. Woop dee doo. It’s sad when someone is in denial about what he really is, but I’ve accepted that Anet will ignore inconvenient truths and gloss over or just joke about problems people have pointed out. This interview is no different in regards

Im only posting because I saw my name on the page

Sure, I’ll give you a pence.

So, to start off, no one said that the sites were taken down, only that they had slowly stopped updating and the only one that has been taken down is the GW2 subdomain on the main Noxxic website. Reading comprehension helps quite a bit.

Only one person said anything about sharing information with them, and that was you. Let me give you some background on how Noxxic works: Noxxic works by going through patch notes of the games they follow, and then having what they call ‘optimal’ builds for what is essentially endgame, both PvP and PvE. I’ve used Noxxic quite often for another game that I play, and I know that when a new patch hits where skills are changed, they open up a part of the forum and people share builds and go back and forth. It’s actually fun to try out different people’s builds and work through to find the ones that work the best for different situations.

And just in case, I’ll put this in here for easy access:

TL;DR
We couldn’t keep up with the constant content.

Anet refuses to give us an unadulterated heads up so we might be the top resource/leak this information pre-release.

We’re not as cool as Dulfy. We tried. Also GW2 isn’t to our taste anymore, check out our other games we do support! <3

Do keep up with your own post.

They might be done, only the admins of the site know, but those who aren’t blinded with pure fanaticism when GW2 is concerned, can see why the decision was made. And since that’s not the topic of this thread, we won’t get into it.

Your armour hasn’t been buffed enough, and your shield arm is quite weak. Do try again. I get quite amused when stories are twisted to fit in with the created grandeur of this game.

Noxxic is not alone in ending support for GW2.

Compared to the aforementioned websites, err. Yeah. They kinda are. Maybe they could have worded that better? Hm? Nah, I must suck at reading.

Only one person said anything about sharing information with them, and that was you.

Developing content for a game with limited fansite support, outdated build calculators, and inaccurate databases leads to a low quality product that we no longer wish to deliver.

Collaborate with the community? Um, yeah sure you do.

Not that you’re in any position to cast stones in that regard.

Your armour hasn’t been buffed enough, and your shield arm is quite weak. Do try again.

Can we have this and the state of the game thread merged not because this isn’t a valid thread from the OP but so we can see the complaints mounting up.

Funny thing is I love the graphics of this game, the general game play but I cant do with repeating stuff over and over or pugging and Im getting fed up moving guild because more and more seem WvW oriented or the pve ones I join seem to slowly wind down.

I use forums to give my opinions but I mostly avoid discussing over
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.

The problem of ‘hard’ content is that it’s not an objective thing. People thought TA Aetherpath was hard, then you got people breezing through it like AC P3. You say Tequatl is easy but looking at how most attempts end in colossal failure, I don’t know about that.

Very true. Considering the vast majority of players has yet to succeed on either of those bosses would imply the content is hard. The hard part of course is getting everyone to listen and follow directions, but isn’t that the hard part of all end-game/raid content? Organizing and getting everyone to do what they are supposed to do. Sure there are gear checks in games with treadmills (WoW), but hypothetically if everyone automatically got BiS gear when they started a raid, it will all boil down to following directions, that’s it. There’s a specific way this fight needs to happen to win, so you have to do it a specific way. Every single raid boss in every game boils down to following directions, with gear checks creating artificial difficulty (where some games make monsters X levels higher, thus reducing your damage, GW2 just adds on HP for the same effect).

Teq/Wurm are just as difficult as any other game’s raid bosses, these just require significantly more coordination because of the sheer number of players required to succeed.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

those bosses are challenging content for large amounts of players at once. That just doesnt appeal to some players at all, and is primarily about a different skill set.

Those fights are more about large scale organisation rather than personal difficulty.

I find it hilariously pathetic how so many people are complaining about the lack of ArenaNet responses.

Go to any other official game forum, especially MMOs, and you will be hard pressed to see developer posts as common as ArenaNet’s amount of posts. Honestly, I prefer for them to post less. So that they don’t have to deal with the constant bull that is this and similar threads, and can instead save their brain cells.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

many other developers post less, but they overall have a clearer message of what to expect.
They tell you what content updates are coming, what type of stuff they are working on in the content update, what their plan is for major issues, when the next expansion is expected, etc.
for example, at random i went to swtor website, and apparently they have a new content update/expansion or something coming june 10th, its going to add strongholds(player housing) and some narshadaa sky palace thingy, its also currently testable on the PTS.
FFXIV, the producer is about to put out a two part livestream, where he details exactly what to expect with the next patch, they have already outlined a completely new boss battle, a completely new dungeon, continuation of one of the main plotlines, hard modes for two older dungeons, a new enemy hunting system, and the art guy is going to field questions and present art on new hairstyles, enemies areas, etc.

So yeah The first two major MMO sites i went to, they are telling users whats coming up next, in fairly strong detail, they have actual dates for pushing out said content. So yeah, we know… we are getting living story 2, one day, and a season event tmr.

Chris brings a lot of strengths and experiences to his role in GW2; I think the interview helps us understand the focus on certain segments of the customer base (hence why other customer segments are treated in a more opportunistic way).

With more than 100 players participating on each such event, you basically dilute the individual contribution to homeopathic levels.
When people demand harder content, they don’t just demand harder content for the maybe 500-5000 PVE commanders in the game.

We are not asking for quantity in responses — we are asking for quality in responses. Once again the toxic conveyor-belt-philosophy behind LS bleeds into other parts related to GW2.

This is why I think they’re reluctant to tell us of their plans.

People think that “We plan to do this by such a date, but it’s subject to change” = “we promise to do this by the deadline”.

I think ANet could be a little more forward in their communication with regards to long-standing issues (conditions in OWPvE, for example). I don’t think anyone would begrudge them if they come out with a list and said we’ve tried such and such, but it didn’t work all that well.

They didn’t promise us that.
They had PLANS to add that last year, but quite long before last year was over they made it very clear that those plans would most likely be postponed.

And since then we have also been told that they have been postponed while they work on the new reward system.

But I suppose selective reading makes for a better complaint?

Actually, their silence is 100% the result of them not being able to follow through on what they tell us … not the fact that we are foolish enough to believe what they tell us and are unhappy when we find out how foolish we were. The ONLY reason for not telling your customers what you have planned, either in the form of new content or fixes for old content, is the tacit acknowledgement that you aren’t proficient enough to properly scope the task or perform it (assuming competition isn’t the issue, which in this case it isn’t). There’s too much to gain marketing-wise by being visibly responsive if you actually are confident you can make things happen.

That is one way to see it of course.
Another one would be that they are actually changing things if they find out it wouldn’t work or if they find something that would work better.
But every single time they have announced something and don’t release it exactly as it was (due to those things coming up) or when it was supposed to be released (again due to those things) these forums explodes shouting about being lied to and so on.

If the people on these forums would grow up a bit and accept the fact that things can change without shouting about being lied to, I am sure ArenaNet would start being more open about it again.

It’s not all about information on new content. It’s about acknowledging mistakes. Anet has been blatantly ignoring their mistakes and even go so far as brushing them off as if they were nothing or worse intended. Successfully interacting with a customerbase is key to the longevity of any product. It is an integral part of making the product better and making it grow.

Sadly anet and the fanboys can’t seem to grasp this concept.
