I’ve gotten a couple of characters up to level 80 now, but am having a hard time finding really cool looking armor sets to deck them out in.

I keep asking others where they get their flashy sets and they’ve all said “from the gem store.” Are there any cool looking (meaning, flashy, extra effects, jump in your face type stuff) armor sets that can be earned through normal PvE?

Check your cultural armor.

Go to a bank or crafting station, and then look at the Wardrobe. Select your armor weight (light, medium, or heavy), and then you can browse/try on every available skin in the game. If you find a piece you like, you could either wiki it or ask in map chat where to get it.

If you’re looking for flashy effects I recommend:

  • TA/Nightmare Court (glows slightly in the dark)
  • CoF/Flame Legion (on fire)
  • Radian (glows)
  • Hellfire (fire)
  • Luminescent (glows)

If you just mean sets that look good I recommend checking out an armor gallery and/or the in-game wardrobe and remember mixing and matching and choosing the right dyes can make a huge difference.

I actually prefer a lot of the in game armor sets. The gem store ones aren’t bad but none of them are good enough to make me feel like the cost is justified when I can get something as good or better for free.

yeah hit wardrobe in bank and you can see which skins you like. it’s pretty cheap to unlock the skins for most sets. cultural armor is a good tip but also check various pieces in the dungeon sets. you don’t have to run dungeons too many times to get 1 piece or 2 from each one.

Of course this is down to personal preference, but if you choose to spend 100+g on a set of cultural armour, you could’ve also exchanged a similar amount for gems and bought an armour skin from the gem-store.

You’re more likely to get more use out of a gemstore armour skin because you have the option to wear it on any race rather than being limited to just one.

Imo, the best armour skins outside of the gem-store are dungeon armours. Some of the Orders’ armour looks quite neat, too. Luminescent/carapace look great (it seems to be that newer armour/outfits are rendered better and have better textures overall). Sometimes it’s worth mixing and matching- I often find that I like some aspects of an armour and not the others, so I replace the stuff I don’t like as much with armour skins that share resemblance or have similar features.

EDIT: Just to add, there are some items that can make you look flashy etc. Polyluminescent refractors and some potions/tonics will make you appear different colours. Legendaries give auras and footfalls which can affect your overall look (especially The Juggernaut, which gives a chrome effect whilst wielded). Fossilized Queen Bee doesn’t change you armour, but does give you an aura of bees and a fewer other effects. This all being said, things like these are often very pricey or very very rare.
