Any sign of a real FoV fix from Arenanet yet?
Are you kidding me ? What you have been using is a bannable offense, you by using a Fov hack gain advantage over other players who are not being able to zoom out and see as far as you can,by using that hack you can also use ac’s to shoot at places no other person can without that tool.
Im glad the latest patch broke your tool,i hope it stays that way.

The FoV in a 3rd person game makes you nausea? I heard that with fps games but 3rd person games?
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Yeah Kokiman, I don’t know how he can get nausea from 3rd person.

I can. Was fighting that centaur boss in the Pavillion and the screen kept shaking so much I got dizzy looking at it. Don’t get that often, but this time I did. Also, I see no reason why he would not be able to get sick.

You can deactive the shaking effects iirc.

This post should be deleted for being not only rude but downright silly. OP, I can assure you that the number of people who actually believe this inane rambling are slim at best.
Unfortunately, though, I doubt we’ll be seeing a fix to your FoV problem any time soon. That level of fix will take Arenanet probably a year+, and they certainly won’t be making any changes to accommodate a 3rd party application, since it would set a precedent that would have others asking “Oh, hey, btw- I have a quality of life addon that I would love to use. Please mod the game for me so it will work! You did it for -blah-”
Some people get motion sick very easily. My boss, for example, will not play games for that reason. Just watching me play GW2 for a moment would make him ill. Just because others don’t understand it, doesn’t mean it will go away. I don’t understand how someone can get car sick- doesn’t make the ill feeling not exist.

wow if your boss gets motion sick so easily then he should really go check it out at a doctor.

I would assume that he has, but what exactly could we expect doctors to do? They are hardly magical. Unless there is some issue that can be surgically fixed, the best they could offer him is medication to deal with it. Still wouldn’t help GW2, though. :-\ Would be a bit overboard to load up on Dramamine every time you want to play =D

I don’t know maybe he has a tumor in his balance area connected to the ears/eyes. Maybe the doctors could do surgery in his head to remove that, just my thoughts.

You must have never played WvW. Anyone who has would know how annoying and unfair such programs are. In PvE, I doubt anyone cares. But WvW is meant to be a fun and competitive activity. And when someone uses a program to allow them to use ACs in ways that aren’t intended, it doesn’t make for a very good time.
The default FOV makes me sick after a while too. I never had this issue with GW1, nor with any other 3rd person games. I wish we could change it. It’s too close to the character, and too zoomed in.
I want an option to higher/lower the camera. The zoom out is fine as it is IMO.

For stating the obvious ? Anet stated that using any tool that gives an advantage over other players is a bannable offense.Since you never played wvw by the looks of it and have absolutely no clue that this is giving people a Huge advantage over other people with the normal fov and basically screwing up wvw for what it is.There are Loads of people using this type of stuff, and it is considerd to be a Hack.
By all means, send anet an mail with the link to the program you used ( Wich is only available on Hacking/exploits sites with the warning that you might end up getting banned ) ,and see if anet gives you the “ok” to keep on using this type of stuff.

hides WvW rank
Yea… never played it… right. >_>
It’s a lie. Straight up lie. If the default makes you sick then so would watching youtube videos, TV, movies in the theatre. The FoV that pretty much everything uses is at a setting that would make looking at the game world (or movie world) through your monitor on par with looking out through a window. Let me guess, looking out your window makes you sick too?
adjusting your FoV beyond a certain (and extremely narrow) degree range (something like 60 to 70 degrees) causes an unnatural warping/distorting. Extending the FoV to a 120 deg range is considered a fish eye lense effect. up it to 360 (max) and you can literally see who is behind you and in front of you at the same time.
This excuse is right up there with “those third party programs that monitor for hacks are complete resource hogs that bog down my computer”.
BS BS BS
Keep in mind that FoV is not the same thing as screen resolution.
There are rare cases but in my experience, it’s almost always a lie.
If you really do get sick then you should take corrective action. No a 3rd party program is not that action. If it’s tied into the motion then you should be getting treated for it. No you shouldn’t dope up on meds just to play. What you would get is a prescription that you would take regularly to prevent the onset. However, the doctor would much rather you avoid doing such activities altogether if possible. Aka, don’t play if it makes you sick.
It’s also quite possible the issue is with your eyes and getting glasses/contact may be what you need. Even if you only need them to play, watch tv, watch movies in the theatre and/or read a book. In fact it’s farely common to need reading glasses.
However, it’s far more likely you are lying. Especially if it only happens when playing “certain” video games (which are usually games that offer a benefit for doing it. Pure coincidance of course, right? )
For which your best bet is simple. You don’t have to play and if it makes you sick, then don’t play.

This MMO has a narrow FoV compared to other MMOs. It’s been discussed at length in the past. I often forget that the upper half of the GW2 world is so beautiful, since the camera is designed so close to our character looking at the ground. This is probably one of the main things I don’t like about this game, which is a shame, because it’s the most beautiful game I’ve played to date.

You jus jelly of our 1337 AC hacks arn’t you?

((A quick reminder that this is taken with no extra camera kitten , and no one should be so outright mean to someone else for wanting a different FoV gasp!))
Am I missing something?
If you play in windowed mode you can get a FoV you like, but won’t take up full screen^^ Should make the game playable for you until you find something to replace~
Having an FoV of 65/70 is just incredibly claustrophobic in any game. 90/100 feels much more natural.
I played another MMO with a default FoV of 70, and after boosting it to 100 playing was much more pleasant. I could get the camera away from my character, see things around me, and the boost to situational awareness was amazing.
I can’t attach stuff or my browser will crash, no matter which one I use >_>

Yes the FoV in this game is terrible. It’s amazing they thought leaving such a narrow fov was a good idea.
Also, if the game is balanced over the small fov, then there is something deeply wrong with balancing.
Sometimes it really feels this game never left the beta stage, but tbh, that feeling just belongs to the Guild Wars games.

I thought already fixed the FOV changes.
I thought already fixed the FOV changes.
As mentioned, that was just a Vertical FoV increase not a horizontal one.
I was suffering from some slight nausea/headaches when playing before the old fov patch, but it was just a minor case for me. I’m all in favor of getting a horizontal slider to help people still affected.

I guess my 3 monitor eyefinity display which GW 2 supports and automatically increases the FoV is a bannable offense.

The FoV in a 3rd person game makes you nausea? I heard that with fps games but 3rd person games?
happens to me very often. While for some reason it doesn’t happen to me on GW2 I have different fov mods for various RPGs and even some online games. I too would feel better if GW2 FoV was at a more natural 90.
It’s a lie. Straight up lie. If the default makes you sick then so would watching youtube videos, TV, movies in the theatre. The FoV that pretty much everything uses is at a setting that would make looking at the game world (or movie world) through your monitor on par with looking out through a window. depends on the screen resolution. 60 FOV on 1080p is unnaturally low. It’s like looking trough a tube. I imagine you’re a console gamer?
If you don’t get it, good for you. But for those that do… I would have never been able to play CoD without the FoV being at 90. Thank goodness for mods. Otherwise the feeling is like this – you open up a game and slowly start feeling dizzy (depends on the FoV, framerate, in-game textures), about 5 minutes in you already have a raging headache, 20 minutes in you can’t stay up right on your chair, about 40 minutes in you’re likely to vomit. I get similar reactions to low texture size. I could not play minecraft for example without modding its texture size. My eyes just started straining causing me a headache. The same goes for head bobbing effects in games. I can’t play Day Z without feeling sick. Unless of course I manage to mod the head bob out completely. In real life I get varying amounts of travel sickness. I’m good with planes and trains, but long car trips is a challenge to me.
The FoV that our eye sees is above 90, it’s more like 180, so when you look out of the window you still have 180 – you can say your walls and your curtains. When you’re focusing on a widescreen PC you are seeing about 90-100 FoV on your screen (once again depends on the resolution, 60 FoV won’t feel unnatural if your screen is a square thing capable of only 480p), for some of us, if the game shortens this to 60, our brain starts going “this doesn’t seem right”, our eyes start over focusing and causing strain. I imagine on a window a similar effect could be achieved if all it did was magnify the wall of a house in front of you, cutting the edges of it out.
You’re lucky if you don’t experience it, however it is very much a real thing.

Yeah, I suppose colour blind people are lying.
I suppose people that suffer with labrynthitis are lying when they say that just moving their head makes them nauseous.
I suppose people that are deaf but with no physical damage to their ears are lying.
I suppose people with eyes that are in perfect working order, that cannot see, are also lying.
I suppose people are lying when they claim that they’re in pain, because you’re not.
I suppose people are lying when they claim that they don’t remember something that happened to them in the morning.
I suppose people are lying when they say that their brain sometimes has trouble with 3D objects, maps, rotation, perspective etc.
Well that’s what your comment amounts to. “I’m fine in this way, therefore EVERYONE else has to be also”. Your comment was about as helpful to people with this problem as a “just play more nintendo memory games” to a person with Alzheimer’s.
You really should think before you insult such a large amount of people with “I don’t understand, therefore BS”.
Before someone removes this comment for being “rude” to another forum user, I’d like to remind them that this person I’m quoting has directly offended people with a legitimate concern when they’re playing a game. He has accused them of lying and is acting as if their well-being is of zero importance. Before someone accuses me of being rude, let’s think of the alternative. What if I just said “yeah whatever” and so did every other person on the forum? Do you think anybody would be helped if all that was shown was indifference?
TL;DR (for those that probably don’t care for the extent at which I say things)
No, these people are not lying. Many of them are fathers, mothers and grandparents. Many are hard-working and honest people. Many of them suffer with other ailments and one of their retreats is to enjoy a little time on this MMO. It’s not hard to add an FoV slider for those that want it, even if you can’t understand their desires for having it.

^ Sorry, but your breadth of experience is not very broad. The world is much more complex than your window looking out, so to speak. Unless you have a medical degree, you should do some more research. Not trying to be mean, just pointing out you really don’t understand.
OP here. I posted this last night and haven’t checked it until now.
I’ll read in more detail once I can but just wanted to address some things…
1) Many others are getting motion sickness from GW2. It’s not that small of a minority. Do a google search on it and you’ll get an idea.
2) It’s not an unfair advantage to change the FoV. If it were, then using windowed mode or three monitors is also a bannable offense. Though I don’t really care if I did get banned since either way I can’t play the game.
3) It’s not made up. Why would someone even make up something like this? It would be a waste of time.
4) Lots of people need to do a bit of self education on what motion sickness entails. I’m seeing a lot of just plain wrong info in responses…
Having a higher screen resolution than me gives you an advantage over me.
Clearly everyone with high screen resolutions are dirty cheaters.
I would love an option to flip it up to about 100 degree for FoV. From playing other games that have proper interface controls (primarily FoV sliders, but also vertical and horizontal sliders for camera position) it’s obvious that the 65 -70 degree that is GW2 standard is the low end of the slider threshold.
I’d also love LOVE LOVE to have a vertical slider to get the camera higher – so the bottom 1/3 of my screen isn’t space wasted showing… the ground behind my character.
The November patch helped some (I no longer get sick from playing more than an hour) but it could be so much better.
snip.
I don’t like what you just said to Hildegain, so I’m going to respond to this.
1. Yes changing the resolution of the game window (and not fullscreening it) helps if you’re playing on a widescreen monitor, however while it is a solution, why are you so against an FoV slider?
2. How would you get an unfair advantage with a horizontal FoV? It would not help you see into keeps or trough walls. Having in mind that it’s 3rd person and people can be zoomed out and vertically looking down on their character it will not do much when it comes noticing your enemies earlier. It will only help to solve a problem that some people have. Plus like someone stated before if you have 3 monitors you can already stretch GW2 trough all of them and have a higher Fov.
3. I have brought my problem up to a doctor. There’s no medication that can help you with it. Most times it has to do with your brain having a lesser ability with handling 3D shapes (hence it happens to women a lot) and it not understanding a lower FoV than it is natural for the monitor. Saying to someone “don’t play this game” is not an answer. It’s essentially saying “don’t participate in your hobby, even though developers could fix this quite easily”. It would be kind of the same as saying to a person in a wheelchair “oh this clothing store has stairs, but not a ramp? I don’t care that they sell your favorite clothing, don’t ask for a ramp, just stop shopping here.”
Also: They won’t tell you to stop playing the game, they’ll give you helpful tips on how to lessen the deleterious effects of playing the game while still allowing you to enjoy your favorite activity, I guarantee it.
OP here again with a little more time to read the posts now. The windowed mode suggestion works fairly well. It’s not terrible to have the game be 1920 by 700 in order to trick the game into giving a better FoV, but it’s certainly less than ideal. It’s probably what I’ll be doing until arenanet realizes this issue isn’t going to go away.
As far “not playing”, I honestly would if this was a F2P game, but I did plunk down $50 for it and stayed thinking “surely they’ll fix this… i’ll just check back again in a few months (weep-womp)”. Though this is also one of the few games that is friendly for someone without a lot of time to play games, so that’s a shame.
Technically speaking, I can see it maybe being hard for arenanet to do, but in all likelihood it would be a simple fix. OpenGL (not sure about directx) has a one-liner function that can change the “projection matrix” as they call it which I believe affects FoV. They also definitely seem to support dynamic FoV, since it changes if you widen the window by a huge amount – it’s just not calibrated properly.
The saddest thing is that the reasons arenanet gave for not adding an FoV slider were total bunk. I would definitely give credit if credit were due but honestly the reasons Jon Peters gave were just very lame and not well thought.
@hildegain
Since you posted while I was making this one I’ll add to this one.
Who do you think you are you pompous ignorant prick. Now that is an insult. Being lied to is an insult. Calling someone out on it, is not. It calling a spade a spade.
Your ability to see is both your eyes and central nervous system. Your ability to hear is both your ears and central nervous system. Your ability to remember is your central nervous system.
I called out someone as lying when their 3rd party program, which they claim to only make enough of a change as to not feel sick, no longer works on a game that would give such a person an unfair advantage if they adjusted the setting according. If you equate this to calling anybody and everybody with any kind of medical condition as liers and/or cheats then you clearly have a medical condition of your own call ‘Low IQ Syndrome’.
I particularly like your last part.
“No, these people are not lying. Many of them are fathers, mothers and grandparents. Many are hard-working and honest people. "
As if by me calling the OP out as lying, I am saying that anyone with a medical condition isn’t a human being? Get the kitten over yourself.
As for someone who gets the headaches and nausea when playing certain video games. Go ahead and bring it up with a doctor. Really. Wanna know what they’ll say to do to correct the situation? DON’T PLAY THE VIDEO GAME.
I suppose I have to put this in very simple terms for you (ironic since you say that I have a low IQ).
What is the process by which visual information is taken in by the brain and converted to allow the brain to recognize 3D shapes and maps? It’s not the eyes that do this, it’s the central nervous system, that system you love to mention as though I don’t know of its existence.
Your problem is that you act as though there has been no research into the problem of motion sickness and video games. Actually developers and medical practitioners have both come to the conclusion that the unnatural appearance of a low fov coupled with a somewhat stunted ability to judge motion can indeed cause nausea and full blown sickness.
Yes, you are indeed dehumanizing people by claiming that they with their own problems are lying. You are essentially demonizing them, making them all out to be deceptive and crafty. You want to make it look like these are people trying to sew some seeds of discord in order to bring about a change in the game to get an “unfair advantage”.
Sorry kiddo, this kind of attitude doesn’t fly with me. You’re not calling a “spade a spade” you’re instead calling a blind man a welfare thief.
As for someone who gets the headaches and nausea when playing certain video games. Go ahead and bring it up with a doctor. Really. Wanna know what they’ll say to do to correct the situation? DON’T PLAY THE VIDEO GAME.
Yes, like your doctor will tell you not to go to a store because your leg hurts. Oh wait, that doesn’t happen. Actually your doctor will suggest the usual; change the lighting, distance yourself from the monitor, take breaks, eat certain foods that are less stimulating etc.
It not only shows that you know nothing of game design (if you think an fov slider is too much and gives an unfair advantage) but that you know nothing of medical health. If I weren’t an aspiring medical physician I wouldn’t take such offence at this intellectual diarrhea you spout.
If I were you, I’d keep your petty insults to yourself and learn to judge based on facts and evidence rather than your stinking suspicions. I’d also like to suggest that you actually speak to doctors, neurologists and game developers about the subject of FoV and nausea, it’s obvious that you have not.
The problem is where a 2D image is taken by the brain and just as with a visual illusion, the brain sees something wrong. The brain starts to feel as though in motion and other forms of input (such as from the inner ear) say otherwise, this causes confusion and nausea.
Increasing the fov in some games, reducing motion blur, reducing screen shake etc. Can sometimes lessen this effect. The problem is in the central nervous system, some people are very visual based when judging motion and others are not. Some people DO in fact have this as a legitimate problem. So I’m not going to stand for snobby little children who claim that others are lying simply because they fail to understand others. Either you lack empathy or you lack basic research skills.
What I am doing here is “calling a spade a spade” when I call you a stupid child with no knowledge on any such subject. I’m not doing anything wrong in saying that you’re a mental invalid and should probably butt out of adult conversations.

2. I don’t think anybody is legitimately dumb enough to really believe it gives any real unfair advantage, I think he just doesn’t want people to enjoy the game…
3. Imagine if you saw a new movie come out at the only cinema nearby. This movie is going to be good! You hear that it’s only in 3D though after you pay for entry (they made no mention of this beforehand). You request for modified shutter glasses to show only the 2D (shut in sync) but they claim that your request is unfair on other patrons, that you’re lying when you say that 3D is headache inducing and that you should leave without a refund. Yeah, that’s fair.
Yeah, nobody gets to tell you what to do with your own paid cash, nobody has the right to call you a liar for wanting to be able to enjoy the game too.
Also: They won’t tell you to stop playing the game, they’ll give you helpful tips on how to lessen the deleterious effects of playing the game while still allowing you to enjoy your favorite activity, I guarantee it.
Exactly, advice to reduce discomfort and occasionally if the problem is severe they’d take a better look at you. I’ve never seen a doctor just tell you to just stop with the activity though, you’re right.
Sad thing is those that say it will cause a problem in WvW have a possibility of being correct. This has to do with the targeting works on some skills.
I guess my 3 monitor eyefinity display which GW 2 supports and automatically increases the FoV is a bannable offense.
You should learn to read before making a reply.
Also,smart for posting this…Why so mean? ; A ;
You jus jelly of our 1337 AC hacks arn’t you?
pic attached((A quick reminder that this is taken with no extra camera kitten , and no one should be so outright mean to someone else for wanting a different FoV gasp!))
Am I missing something?
If you play in windowed mode you can get a FoV you like, but won’t take up full screen^^ Should make the game playable for you until you find something to replace~
What in the world is wrong with you…? I just ….First of all,im not being “mean” if you think i am then please, grow some balls. Im just sick of seeing hackers in the only aspect of this game i still like to be doing,if hackers start to ruin that aspect aswell,i might aswell not play at all anymore. There are LOADS of people using these hacks in wvw and its killing wvw for what it is on a regular base.I dont care what kind of lame excuse people bring up to use some kitten fov tool to have an advantage over other people. And in any case,he should go see a kitten doctor instead of complaining about his HACK not working again since the latest patch.Everything this guy said screams “I am an idiot please ban me”,but that will probably sound mean to you aswell.

How about you take your own advice about spew out posts that are arrogant and insulting you pompous hypocrit. Aspiring medical physician, lol. So what, still in university? Sorry but that means I got about a decade on you so you can cut the condescending “kiddo” remark.
Your central nervous system (while it processes the info from the eyes) still needs the eyes to get the info from. If you bothered to actually read my post you can see that I said as such. Close one eye, the info needed for 3D is gone and you see in 2D. Dah.
Going to the grocery store, or going into the gas station to pay for gas, etc. is one thing. Playing a video game is another. If the person’s ability to walk deteriorates enough they’ll get a handicap tag to use the spots closer to the doors of places. They’ll get a wheelchair (electric or not). Because there is doing what’s reasonable.
Let’s say that video games was something that you needed to run around for (they advanced into a holodeck type of thing), do you honestly think that you’d be able to get your insurance to cover the cost of surgery for you knee when you knee only bothers you when you play and doesn’t bother you anywhere else? I very much doubt it.
You said it yourself…
The doctor would recommend lighting, adjusting your distance from the monitor (which is also something I suggested in the post).
But I’m done with you as you are just an arrogant hypocrite (you’ll report a post that you find insulting yet write one that is not only just as insulting but completely outlandish) who I’ve come to conclude as straight up delusional if you equate calling someone out as lying equivalent to calling everyone everywhere as being less than human. People like you is what’s wrong with society today.
What in the world is wrong with you…? I just ….First of all,im not being “mean” if you think i am then please, grow some balls. No, something is wrong with you. You’re fighting against a slider being put into the game that everyone could use (and is not a hack) and direct people to doctors, that can only advise you so much about the lighting, dietary choices, but can’t fix the way your brain comprehends 3D objects, instead of allowing them to have a simple fix that would help everybody.
Sorry but that means I got about a decade on you so you can cut the condescending “kiddo” remark.
It’s not about the age, it’s about your mental status. If you’re going to go in here and claim that someone is lying, completely disregarding that a lot of us have this problem and then going to spew insults to a person explaining it to you be prepared to be called a child.
Your central nervous system (while it processes the info from the eyes) still needs the eyes to get the info from.
and most of the times, it’s not the eyes at fault, but the brain being unable to process information correctly.
Going to the grocery store, or going into the gas station to pay for gas, etc. is one thing.
People have the right to participate in their hobby handicapped or not. The next thing we’ll see is you claiming that a legless man should not have a completely hand controlled car and should instead settle with taking a bus.
Our hobbies is something that keep us not depressed. Saying “don’t play the game” is not a solution. Especially when what you’re protesting against is a tiny little update with an FoV slider. Does it hurt you or something?
Let’s say that video games was something that you needed to run around for (they advanced into a holodeck type of thing), do you honestly think that you’d be able to get your insurance to cover the cost of surgery for you knee when you knee only bothers you when you play and doesn’t bother you anywhere else?
No, instead you would expect that game developers would make holodecks suited for handicapped people.
you’ll report a post that you find insulting
It was me that reported your post in.
who I’ve come to conclude as straight up delusional if you equate calling someone out as lying equivalent to calling everyone everywhere as being less than human.
Calling someone out with having zero evidence and insulting the rest of us that have had these problems and know how it feels.

I read that the 3rd party camera tool was a bannable offense also, gives the player an advantage. A prime example is in wvw when using an arrow cart, if you can move the camera in a way to hit an area with the default camera then fair game. But with the 3rd party add on you are able to zoom out and see everything and hit the arrow cart anywhere (within range).

Yes, ban people for using a 3rd party program to cure their nausea and dizziness preventing them from playing. And actually it’s not illegal to use third party software as long as they don’t automate gameplay or give you an unfair advantage. If the thing merely changes your field of view is not a bannable program.

go read wvw forum.
turn shaking camera off in options
That would’ve been fine if explaining it was all that they were doing. It wasn’t. They’re post was arrogant, pompous, egotistical, exaggerated beyond belief and thus down right insulting. If I have to go and pick out the parts that reflect such, I will but I really shouldn’t have to as it is quite obvious.
Do go and do so. Because all I’ve seen is you claiming that people the have a legitimate condition are lying because you don’t have it yourself.
You say you reported it. Did you report their? doubt it. That goes beyond biased to being completely two faced.
I’ll admit that I am. You’re free to report his posts yourself. I do have a bias against you because you didn’t just insult the OP when you said that he was lying, you insulted the rest of us that have these dizziness attacks in other games.
and have been involved as both a game player and moderator long enough to see first hand that quite often things are not as innocent or sincere as the person makes it out to be.
If you were a judge and you’ve seen 100 out of 101 cases where a person was accused of murder to be true, you would still have no right to pronounce your 102 case to be guilty without a trial.
However, I like to hunt as a hobby. I would very much prefer if someone who is blind, didn’t go grab a rifle, grab their white cane and head off into the woods. I’d prefer not to get shot for sounding and smelling like a deer.
Hunting and gaming isn’t quite the same thing, is it? For example blind people are able to game. There’s a blind boy that has memorized all of the Abe’s Odyssey by the sound alone.
I have no problem with an in game slider (why people assumed otherwise is beyond me), I’m against them allowing the use of 3rd party software. The original post gave me the impression that the person wanted to use their 3rd party software again.
No, the original poster is asking for a slider.
Wow, missed the mark on that one. The game (not the deck) requires you to have legs. Take a game like Skyrim. What if you could go into a room like a holodeck and be in that game. There are many areas that a wheelchair would be inaccessible. Also, regardless of them designing in handicap compatibility, the part you quoted is the likelihood that an insurance company will provide coverage for a surgery for a problem you only have when playing that one game. Sorry, not going to happen.
Your comparison makes no sense though. Is OP asking for a slider or a brain surgery?
Accept it or not, but certain things like a ‘color blind’ mode in games are nice things that these companies do. They are not required to do it because your ability to play a video game doesn’t fall under quality of life.
Anet does not have to include the FoV slider either, but people will continue to use 3rd party tools if it doesn’t exist. It’s not illegal to improve your quality of life. The same way that Anet doesn’t really have to optimize for low end systems or to end culling, doesn’t mean that people on old system wouldn’t try to optimize themselves and it doesn’t mean that it’s illegal to attempt and mob the culling out yourself. It’s only illegal to use a 3rd party software if it gives you an unfair advantage. What advantage is there to having your FoV at 90 instead of 65, especially when a person could artificially increase their game FoV by resizing it in windowed mode?
Arenanet have made a lot of good simple quality of life changes in the past months, this one should be on the top of the list.
I would take a FoV slider over any amount of content(Raids, Guild Halls, Guild vs Guild), please Arenanet add one in already.
Do go and do so. Because all I’ve seen is you claiming that people the have a legitimate condition are lying because you don’t have it yourself.
Calling one person out on it does not equal calling everybody that has it as lying. That’s simply a gross misconception on your part.
I’ll admit that I am. You’re free to report his posts yourself. I do have a bias against you because you didn’t just insult the OP when you said that he was lying, you insulted the rest of us that have these dizziness attacks in other games.
Calling someone out as lying doesn’t even qualify as an insult for starters. Whether you say “I believe you are just lying” or “I don’t believe you”. It’s stating a matter of opinion. Not an insult. Another misconception of yours.
In addition to that, there isn’t anything that states that I’m not allowed to. Thus my initial reply is still there.
If you were a judge and you’ve seen 100 out of 101 cases where a person was accused of murder to be true, you would still have no right to pronounce your 102 case to be guilty without a trial.
Spare me the semantic BS.
Hunting and gaming isn’t quite the same thing, is it? For example blind people are able to game. There’s a blind boy that has memorized all of the Abe’s Odyssey by the sound alone.
It’s an example of a hobby and one that shows that just because you have a handicap doesn’t mean that you should still be able to do anything/everything that a person without can. Its a matter of reality. A reality check is certainly something I’ve seen people in desperate need of.
No, the original poster is asking for a slider.
The original post (no ‘er’) doesn’t even mention a slider. He doesn’t even mention it until the bottom of his third post.
Your comparison makes no sense though. Is OP asking for a slider or a brain surgery?
Well in relation to the actual situation. While it would be nice, ANet is not required to put it in by any kind of law. This is because your ability to play the game is not considered a quality of life issue and therefore it is not an entitlement. Being able to walk to the store (not my example) is in fact a quality of life issue so the person will have certain rights and entitlements to try and restore their quality of life.
Anet does not have to include the FoV slider either, but people will continue to use 3rd party tools if it doesn’t exist. It’s not illegal to improve your quality of life. Lol actually since the ToS that you signed states that such 3rd party programs are prohibited, that does in fact make it illegal to use to any degree. The company has the legal right to deny you access for violating the ToS regardless of any money and/or time invested and without refund.
“It’s not illegal to improve your quality of life”. Well, that depends entirely on quite a few factors.
(edited by Deamhan.9538)
Part of the issue for me is that the camera shows so much of the ground that the movement scroll at the bottom can make me feel queasy. I wish ANet would raise their camera, so that the character’s head hits the bottom third, rather than midway. We’d see a lot more skybox anyway, rather than the ground.
But they haven’t even bothered to make the minimap movable to the left (I’ve only got vision on the left side), so I doubt they’d bother to give us a camera height slider.
Tarnished Coast
Calling one person out on it does not equal calling everybody that has it as lying. That’s simply a gross misconception on your part.
You called him out on it without any proof and put in sentences stating that in your opinion most of such cases are a bunch of BS. I take offense to that. I don’t like people having no empathy and going “I don’t have it, therefore most cases are BS”. By the way there’s a difference between stating “I don’t’ believe you”, even though you should have no reason not to and writing a paragraph about how everything is complete BS.
If you were a judge and you’ve seen 100 out of 101 cases where a person was accused of murder to be true, you would still have no right to pronounce your 102 case to be guilty without a trial.
Spare me the semantic BS.
It’s simple logic. I’m trying to show it to you. Just because most people lied to you, you should not accuse all people of lying as soon as you see a problem posted by them.
Its a matter of reality. A reality check is certainly something I’ve seen people in desperate need of.
Or better technology. With that kind of mindset we would not have sign language person on some TV channels, we wouldn’t have cars adjusted for small people/ people with no legs, we wouldn’t even have wheelchairs because a person might just as well just walk on hands. It’s rude to state “deal with it” when it can easily be fixed.
This is because your ability to play the game is not considered a quality of life issue and therefore it is not an entitlement. Being able to walk to the store (not my example) is in fact a quality of life issue so the person will have certain rights and entitlements to try and restore their quality of life.
To a food store, yes, not to a clothing store though, not to a game store, not to a movie store, not to a cinema or other buildings providing entertainment. For some games are probably the thing keeping them from committing suicide. Our reality is sometimes not what we want it to be and we require means to escape it only for just a little bit. Saying “abandon your hobby” instead of “we can fix it” is simply cold hearted.
Lol actually since the ToS that you signed states that such 3rd party programs are prohibited, that does in fact make it illegal to use to any degree. The company has the legal right to deny you access for violating the ToS regardless of any money and/or time invested and without refund.

There have been several threads asking what mods are okay and what are not. Anet allowed several shader, graphics mods, various overlays as well. If all it does is messes with the graphics and does not give you an advantage, it’s normally allowed, so my statement stands – what kind of advantage do you get by setting your horizontal FoV to 90 instead of 65?
