I know it makes me the odd man out, but I’m quite satisfied with the monthly to bi-weekly updates of new content. No other game I’ve ever played gave me all that, for free

I’m glad that you like the Living Story business model, but I’m sure you recognize that after 2+ years of said model there is a lot it’s failed to deliver. For all the Living Story is, “an expansion worth of content” it isn’t.

at such a pace without bugs that broke the game,

If I remember correctly, the finale of Season 1 (or maybe it was the penultimate release) had at least several major bugs for 10 of its 14 day lifespan. The fact is a two-week release schedule means the developers must release content when it’s due, not when it’s ready; that means a presence of bugs and a lack of polish is inevitable.

so I kind of don’t get the complaints and demands for an expansion.

See the above two points.

Some people are just never happy.

The opposite is true too. Some people happy with whatever they get and they’ll never expect or demand more.

could you please stop having agressive tone towards other people?
My eyes are bleeding from CAPS LOCK and sentences like this: “you are still just a guy ordering pizza at a burger place and yelling at everyone who tells you to go down the road to Pizza Hut”
It’s not polite really

Caps were for emphasis of the important parts (since I don’t like having to take the time to use switches for bold/underline/etc. and this forum doesn’t employ the text editing capabilities that every forum since 1998 has used). The sentence above was not intended to be polite, merely representative of the fact of the matter. I have neither the time nor inclination to tip-toe around the eggshell egos of the illogical.

I personally do not care if it’s an expansion or not. I’ve been satisfied so far with the Living Story other than the duration of some of the breaks. I’m not going to turn away new content.

Oh I’m not saying bug-free, by any stretch of the imagination, but overall ANet has done a really good job over the past year releasing content that has been pretty smooth. Especially considering my other MMO experiences.

But I do remember that awful experience with the Karka invasion and its followup.

As far as happiness with the community, I suppose that can be true. But, again from my experiences, I’ve not really seen any poster be happy with everything that’s come out. Even the so-called ‘white knights’ or advocates.

Still, again, I will say I’m impressed with ANet’s ability to release content, even in small doses, over the year for free that keeps the general population eager for more.

To me, that’s a pretty good sign of success.

Edit:

I have neither the time nor inclination to tip-toe around the eggshell egos of the illogical.

I love that. Signature-worthy. And so, so true.

its been almost 3 years, an expansion most come. If is not an xpac announcement this game is not having much life anymore, might be its last year. For how long will people still be playing the same dungeons, with the same skills and all that.

If it is an expansion that:

  • Adds repeatable content
  • Adds story
  • Adds character building options (race, profession, weapon choices, new traits, new face/hair, new armor and weapon skins)
  • Adds PvP modes
  • Revamps WvW and EotM so EotM doesn’t blow normal WvW out of the water as regards rewards

Edit: Points if it reverts the horrible new trait acquisition system.

I’ll be happy.

If it’s an expansion that:

  • Adds more vertical progression via a level cap raise or some other means, eliminating what remains of the defining aspects of the game’s predecessor

I will not be happy.

Except Arenanet did not say what release model they were going to use before launch. Yes they never said anything about expansions but they never said anything about Living Story either.

Before launch Colin said that they expected to release an expansion someday.

I am guessing that the LS will take us up to the point where Mordremoth is ready to die. At that point the expansion will cover the preparations for that battle in much the same way Orr served as the staging area for Zhatain. It will give us 3-4 maps and will be similar to what we seen in Orr with the exception that the minions will be plant based. The following living story will then pick up on another Elder dragon and start all over again.

And after launch they said that they are not sure how to launch things that expand GW2. It seems they changed their mind.

So long as no additional vertical progress is introduced, additional horizontal progress IS introduced and they don’t do anything to somehow fragment the community I’m good with whatever.

Due to the wild success of the Trait system, it has been expanded to skills as well! Now each skill has a specific goal that you have to accomplish somewhere in the world to unlock. For those who don’t want to go skill hunting, you can unlock the skills from your skill trainer for the low, low cost of a gold and 3 skill points! For every one! Except elites, those are 10 gold and 20 skill points!

I wouldn’t mind an expansion, as long as it updates and adds content besides the living story. The game needs to stay fresh, with new professions, zones, gear, weapons, skills, traits, etc.

I’m less concerned about it being an expansion and more concerned about what an expansion might bring to the table.

Let’s say that the level cap goes up. That may or may not be a problem for me, depending on how it’s handled. But I have 23 80s, all in max level gear.

If I have to gear them all up again, that’s not going to be fun.

I don’t think they will ever rise lvl cup because this game isn’t about that.

Pre launch Colin said that he was sure that level cap increase would occur.

And just after Ascended introduction they were planning to follow up with other gear progression mechanics, (new, stronger infusions), as well as new gear tiers later in the future. The player reaction to that patch turned out to be much stronger than they seemed to expect however, and they ended up backpedaling on lot of that (see the progression/rewards CDI, for example, for dev posts on it).

Actions, not words.

Not saying that there will be a level cap raise. Dont want one. Just didnt want those who were unaware of the interview to assume that it was an automatic no go.

It’s not a ridiculous argument for one reason.

I played Guild Wars 1 for six years and never EVER had to upgrade my armor or weapons. That’s what this franchise was built around. Not a gear treadmill. Not upgrading gear constantly.

What’s ridiculous is thinking that because you want to upgrade all your gear, the Guild Wars playerbase is going to take that on the nose. It’s not how the game was laid out before many of us bought it, it’s not expected for the franchise, and even here on the forums today, there are posts about even raising the level cap being a deal breaker.

The reality is that this game was predicated on the idea of horizontal rather than vertical progression.

If Anet tries to add vertical progression, whether you think I’m reasonable or not, there’s going to be a war on these forums.

Even the addition of ascended gear caused an outcry that went far beyond what some would consider reasonable, but it happened for a reason.

It was a tear in the fabric from which the Guild Wars games were woven.

You didn’t Read my post correctly.

First of all, you need some sensibility – me writing that I would like some additional progression doesn’t mean I assume whole community would like that. On the contrary, I am showing you the opposite side of the coin.

Secondly, you saying that there are people who dislike traditional gear treadmill is funny because everybody knows that. It’s also a common knowledge that there are people who like grinding (although I presume they are a miniscule part of gw2 community, if even there) and some moderate people, like me, who enjoy improving their characters’ power levels (those surely exist in the community, I know many).

Then, you move on to saying that an introduction of some additional progression would start a war on the forums. Well, I thought of all people you’d understand that forums represent just a small part of the game’s community and cannot stay in the way of improving the game overall.

Another problem is you thinking inside the box when talking about progression. If there was an expansion providing amazing repeatable gameplay in all game modes making it possible to progress through some additional gear system multiple times or on multiple characters at once it could work and I think less people would be against that.

Finally, you didn’t understand the message I tried to send with my post. I tried to gently say that you made 23 characters, grinded them to max gear and now will block anything that works against your perfect world. Well, let me bring it to you -this is life, the more you have the more you have to pay attention to it. And please, telling that gw2 was built on ‘no vertical progression’ marketing is just not true. It was built on ‘no grind’ principal, which arguably wasn’t preserved anyways.

Not trying to start a flame war, but hypocrisy is strong in this one.

The stuff you’re asking for would kitten off enough people to make it dangerous to do whether I find it annoying or not.

You think I’m the only altoholic in this game? Or the only one against vertical progression. Obviously not.

So cut the condescending stuff out of your post and answer me in good faith.

Because right now all we have is you basically in favor of vertical progression, me against it and the question hanging about what most people would want.

A question neither of us can answer.

I answered how I’d feel about having to upgrade, even over time, all my characters.

I play this game very much the way I play Guild Wars 1. I clearly have a right to state, for me, what would annoy me. I didn’t talk for the masses.

Your response to me, in both cases, is not only inappropriate. but doesn’t even answer my argument.
