Are you offended by Shadow Knight?
whatever class is added in the future i just hope it has no ’’shadow’’ in it’s name.
Shadow is probably the most corny overused word in fantasy and i would not be able to play a class with that word in it xD
Definitely needs a more original and less cliche name, I agree.
My wife and I are big Firefly/Serenity fans, why not call a new heavy armored necromantic warrior profession the “Reaver”?
Give it the new Scythe weapon, and allow it to dual wield any bladed weapon (swords, daggers, axes) and make the majority of its utility skills have some sort of snare and be based off of bolas and/or shuriken.
Not really sure what would make for a good class mechanic, maybe have something to do with Haste as the Reaver kills more.
why designing a new profession when this archetype is already in the game? Give the Necromancer a greatsword and/or dual swords and that’s it.
Oh great! More Trahearnes -_-
Great idea………………………………………….. if I was playing WoW.
It seems some players will not be happy until GW2 is a complete WoW clone in every way.
I need MOUNTS!
LOL!
Only mounts? what about raids? ;-)
They clearly stated multiple times that there will be no new professions for a long while. And no I can’t give you a link of that, because it’s from interviews/articles I read months ago.

Can’t see how this would fit in GW2 at all. The whole class simply does not fit the lore.
Would much rather see something new for a change.I think the idea is that it’s inspired by a sort of necromancer / dervish hybrid in heavy armor.
If you remember from GW1 we had the Underworld and Palawa Joko, not to mention Prophecies had a whole lot centered around the Undead. Not too hard to believe there’s a place for a necromantic warrior ingame.
I still don’t see it. All your examples are undead, in GW2 one of the main enemies is the undead.
We have dark, evil-like spellcasters that raise the dead.
You’re saying we can’t have dark, evil-like warriors based around the same idea because it has no previous basis?
in gw2 lore, raising the dead typically means working for zhaitan and so you’d be evil
a class centered around that would be contrary to the established lore.
in personal story there is already a human that uses zhaitan’s power unknowingly to become sort of more powerful and pays the prize for it with his life, he is fought by logan and you to the death.
Offended by? Not at all.
Not the slightest bit interested in? Yes.
I could name it xxarthasdkxx just to annoy people.
LOL!

It’s already 90% of the way there by design.
If they named a class “shadow knight”, i would immediately uninstall the game and start wearing seasonal cardigan sweaters.
I got no problems with a Shadow Knight or Death Knight class, the Guardian is as far as I’m concerned, Anets version of the Paladin, I think Blizzard did it better but thats another discussion, But I do think we need a 3rd heavy class and we already have a “Holy Warrior” and regular Warriors, why not Death Knights or Shadow knights.
Only thing that offends me is LS and Anet thinking that’s what everyone wants, most of us are here cause we played GW1, this is nothing like GW1 and that’s the only thing that offends me. Broken promises.
Välkyri – 80 Warrior
JQ[Lulz] – Kill fur Thrillz…
“OMG! That’s so WoW-y. GW2 is different! It isn’t even a mainstream MMO! Anything that suggest it’s WoW-y or anything cannot be in this game!”
On topic:
There’s already undead/shadow knights in the game as per the Risen. I don’t see why it would be a big deal if this type of profession was introduced to the game.

Every other heavy runs around in abyss stained armor with some unholy looking weapon on their back already. Would taking the guardian, inverting it’s skill color scheme and making it’s abilities more offensive than defensive be that game breaking?
People should be more worried about such a class overlapping with stuff we already have such as guardians, warriors and necros than flipping kitten because of that one really successful MMO that shall not be named has something similar in it.
…I’m sure this is a reference to something else, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Was there another thread on this somewhere around here that I missed?
He just said “GuildWars2Guru community”. It’s where the players can actually speak their mind without being reprimanded for sneezing, have real discussions and have the sense that someone actually read what you posted.

At Guild Wars 2 Guru? When did that change happen? Speaking your mind without being reprimanded? Wasn’t like that before the game launched. I guess that would make sense, Anet probably doesn’t go to that forum any more, so the mods of Guru have no need to censor anything negative. People think Anet deleting repeat threads, or nonconstructive threads, or threads going off topic is bad, they haven’t seen the crud that guru would pull before Anet launched these forums.
TBH, I feel like the introduction of a “Shadow Knight” class would not be good. It would need to be thematically distinct, and I feel that as a “Shadow Knight”, it couldn’t. Necromancers cover the unholy angle, Rogues cover the shadowy angle, Warriors cover the uber-martial angle, and Guardians cover the spellsword angle. I honestly don’t think a “Shadow Knight” could be introduced without weakening the themes of those classes.
That said, I feel like a dark hero type class could work. Specifically setting it up as a Death Knight or a Shadow Knight or a Dark Knight or an Anti-Paladin or whatnot won’t make it interesting, because in each of those cases it either is a variation of another class or an inverse of another class. A Witch-Hunter, that is based around seeking out enemies (Mobile combat, single-target) and punishing magic (Interrupts, damage on interrupts) could work. Just not a “Shadow Knight”.

If you want to be offended, introduce a Swordsage from the Tome of Battle, and watch every other profession get murdered.
Or ask yourselves if you should be “offended” by something put in a game.

I am not against players seeing their Guardians as “Paladins”, but they are, IMHO, nothing of the sort. Seems more like battle clerics with fewer weapon restrictions to me, although ones that do not focus on healing only (even if this game had GW1 Monks, they wouldn’t be “healers” anyway due to the game’s mechanics.) Lorewise, Guardians were intended to be a mix of Monk’s and Paragon’s traditions, and though I can imagine any other game’s “Paladin players” being lured into the Profession due some similarities, the low vitality doesn’t seem very “paladinesque” to me (though to be fair, Cleric’s usually have average hit points rather than the minimum.) Play as you wish of course-just don’t think that everybody sees the Guardian as ANet’s version of the DnD (or WoW) Paladin, because that would be more Warrior-like than what the current Guardian version currently resembles, IMHO.
(If anything, what was weird is that GW1’s Monks were mostly healers rather than martial artists-but then again, this is another universe, no matter how other traditional aspects remain on the game.)
On subject, I do not mean to offend but there’s no reason for ANet to add this for its own sake, or just to emulate what the other games offer. It’s not offensive, but it is unnecessary, as you could just envision your Warrior as an anti-Paladin if you wish-ironically, you could also play your Warrior AS a “true” Paladin too, rather than your Guardian.

Granted. You’re now the designated the golem driver in WvW. Now come along. Pay attention to the mesmers porting you, and operate that mount like a champ.
Your service is appreciated, comrade.
