Armor instead of Traiting >:(
they definately need to change the armor system now, diversity will require you to carry around a lot more EQ.
hope they also change ascended aquisition, i would hate to have to do that multi times.
I like the changes a lot. Seperating stats from traits is the best move they have done.
Did they really say the only way to get stats is from armor/weapons?

Yes.
Base stats and armor.
Which means we will all need to carry multiple armor types…
This would be fine if we didn’t already have an easier way. We already get to choose our attributes right now which is fricken unique.

yes, most stats are now completely gear based. Certain trait lines will alter special effects you dont get on gear, like proffession mechanic cast time.
Traits are a minor stat modifier compared to gear stats. I like the change, and people have been asking for this for a while. Get good gear tbh

I suspect a fraction of stats will be a bonus to choosing a trait line, similar to how attunement reduction is slotted for Arcane specialization. I wouldn’t entirely rule out stat bonuses, just not the +300 Power for the strength trait line we had before.

People wanted utilities to be removed from trail lines, but they didn’t ask for attributes to be removed from traitlines…
Also we can’t even save builds right now so guess what?
We have to buy more bag slots and re-specialize and re-armor for every situation to maximize usefulness. What a pain in the a….

Not at all. Both previews say attributes are all base stat and item based. That is why I wrote this up to begin with otherwise I wouldn’t even care.
I’ve never cared about trait attributes when creating builds, only checked trait descriptions. Dunno if it’s significant.

they implied the stats you can get on armor will be redistributed to armor.
other non armor bonuses will be given to each line.
for some they will have to make up new ones, like if a line had toughness and vitality, it will probably get some new bonus.

Yeah the current traits will be tweaked to allow flexibility. Some of those traits had stat bonuses like +crit opening strike. I get that. The bonuses are not going to be huge though because of the focus on armor and base stats.
Going to be interesting. I selected trait lines to fill out stats I needed that I didn’t get from my gear, for example, I might have pure beserker gear but then choose healing and vitality trait lines to decrease the glassiness and improve survivability.
ANet may give it to you.
Dumb change to help bring condi builds to pve and help nerf berserker tbh. Depending on your class you’re getting anywhere from 200 to 300 extra power, ferocity, and precision.
All this change is going to do is make zerker groups 5 seconds longer, and just seperate the difference between good and bad players. Theyre just widening the gap.
I really don’t like that at all.
At the moment using for example soldiers or knights armor instead of berserker
gives you 12-13% less damage.
Now after the change that would be a much bigger difference (maybe 20 or 25%? )
and especially if you made ascended armor it would be really bad to notice that
what works greatbefore no suddenly is maybe totally bad.
Gear was in the end only a small part of a “zerker-build” till now. After that change
it will be a much bigger part.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Yes a lot of people asked for this Tyrantis.
Sorry if this is bad for you. Some people will prefer this method and other will dislike it.
Personally I LOVE it. This will put more emphasis on trait and will open more build diversity. For exemple putting 6pts in Honor for a guardian in PvE is not really view as a good choice. But getting two-handed mastery, might on crits and superior Aria without losing on the offensive stats would a valid choice.
A meditation guardian with Zeal, Radiance and Valor would probably become a better solo build than the normal dungeon build.
I love the change. It bothered me that if I wanted to run Phalanx Strength, I’d have to sacrafice power in order to get it. Diggin the change definitely
My concern is this, so far we had trait lines that we used many to chose traits. But sometimes, and quite often we had to make choice are we taking stats we wish or traits, coz we couldnt get both.
If this , sometimes hard choice is removed , we will quite soon after get single meta builds that are must.
We all wish to max our stats, but ….

Hope dies last.
I’d get ready for the grind.
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-

They should have a separate attributes unlock system where all the stat points from the trait system would go and you could select which stats you want from there.
You know..like a RPG…..?

Number 1: We have to buy how many sets of armor for each class and character? I have 8 characters, 6 of which are level 80. I need to go spend how much gold to buy secondary armor for each situation? That’s crap. It’s convenient for you because more gold = more money for aNet.
Why not craft your own armor? You can lower the costs that way.
Number 2: Bank slots and bag slots for armor. It’s convenient that since my characters will be running multiple armors that I will need to purchase more bank room and more bad slots. More bag slots and bank slots sold = more money for aNet.
You think you might be blowing up how big of an impact to the game this change will have.
I think it is BS and you should have communicated a long time ago that you were going to be flipping the meta.
How long ago would have suited you?
It screws us veterans over tbh.
Am I playing the game wrong? The majority of the content in GW2 is waaayyyy to easy to have to worry about things like running multiple builds and swap between them ad hoc and min/maxing your traits.
Which means we will all need to carry multiple armor types…
But why? Again I must be playing GW2 wrong or something.
I never once, ever, chose a trait line based on stat points. They were just there. I chose trait lines based on the traits they offered.
Sometimes this meant getting stats I neither needed nor wanted. The right thing to do was to separate the traits from stats.
That said, for min maxers it’s going to be tough. For guys like me, not so much. I don’t think I have to squeeze every point out of a stat to be successful in this game. It’s still more about technique than stats.

1. High level crafting can still be expensive/time consuming.
2. Each full set of armor with weapons (if you dual wield) is 14 pieces of equipment. Now say you want 3 distinct builds. That is 42 pieces of equipment.
3. A change of this magnitude should have been announced as early as possible as opposed to advertising hang gliding and somewhat different types of Hylek we will see.
4. Do you even play any form of PvP content? Multiple builds are almost a necessity for handling various teams/situations.
5. Refer to point 4.
Meh, this looks like what I’d expect. This new system will be easier to balance, and sell more gems.
In addition to forcing more pvp/pve player interaction.
Unlike EVE Online Guild Wars can be played as a PVE only game, and a lot of people do just that. It looks to me like they are now trying to get more interaction from the PVP only crowd.
Can Engi please have more than one viable skill set in PVE? Turrets maybe?
Pumping 6 points into a trait line for stats, even if you didn’t like the traits, was a hinderance to your character, whether you realized it or not. The combination of minor and major traits from a line were more beneficial to a playstyle than the stats. This is a good change.
This sounds like good news, and might help break up the zerker meta.
Tacking them to the armor is a minor thing.
Ideal? Maybe, maybe not. too early to tell.
Would it have been better to let is choose where those bonuses went as we leveled up? Sure, but i don’t think they had the time to implement something like that properly.
