I farmed a lot the past few weeks in order to save up some money so I can finally finish all this ascended crap. Now I only have to worry about good looking gear and my next project is the Light of Dwayna backpiece.. Unfortunately it’s still bugged and I can’t buy the recipe on the TP.

UPDATE: Done with my dwayna backpiece yay!

EDIT: I didn’t really like the looks of the light ascended armor so I used transmutation splitters for my exo and bought transmutation stones to transfer the current flamekissed skin because of it’s T3 looks. Because apparently there’s a bug, you can’t transmute from exotic to ascended directly if you have the skin on (thus preventing the transfer of runes as well).

Anyway the reason why I rushed my ascended armor is more psychological than anything. I just want BiS slot equips done so I can focus more on the game without feeling incomplete.

Playing the tp means you are profiting other players.

Aside being unethical (imho but its a long debate), its NOT a viable solution for players.

If all players started to flip the TP, we would just obtain a 30% loss for everyone.

In the current situation you just have few players profiting at other players cost (+ 30% loss totaly on other players).

that is why i hate TP so much.
The damage is way worse than the benefit for the Whole community…but few players at least are rich without Killing a mob….

Its also the ONLY form of FORCED pvp in this game.

On another note, while I don’t TP flip, I appreciate the fact that there is a gold sink built into the TP. It’s good for the economy.

You seem to have a lot of gold and and a lot of patience to farm like you did. Why don’t you buy 1000 giant wintersday gifts and open them? This way well… you’ll get the recipe. I opened 500 of those and got 3 Light of Dwayna recipe + 1 thingy of Grenth recipe. Several friends of mine reported to get between 1 and 3 with 500 gifts. So they are actually not hard to get.

i opened 1500 or more (i m not rich i just had 20.000 dungeon tokens i converted to gold)….
and i didn t get anything…

The TP is just another auction house found in pretty much every other game. It’s simply another form of entertainment for some. The mistake in your logic is thinking anyone owes anything to the community.

The last time I checked I as well as many others purchased the game for our own “personal” enjoyment.

If I wanted to help a community I would join a missionary.

As far as being unethical – who are you to say what is or isn’t ethical for someone.

The problem we have here is another entitlement person who feels we should redistribute the wealth in a video game.

Well that’s debatable.. I was perfectly happy with exotics as the BiS equips.. I really don’t think ascended were necessary and that it goes against the manifesto but that’s a topic that has already been discussed to death in the forums. I’m just relieved to finally be done with the whole thing.

As far as the stat goes, I think the increase is barely noticeable. Again, this was more of a choice for psychological reasons more than anything.

Correction…maybe half of the population. Probably less than half. The people that wanted this came from the same mentality that is a WoW player.

The people that are upset with ascended gear, including myself, are people that came to GW2 for no gear grind, specifically for stats. We wanted aesthetic gear grind.

I disagree on almost all of this. Every player has the option to put an offer in instead of paying the asking price. No one is exploited. I do both, depending on how time I have. Offers are preferable, but sometimes I just don’t want to wait. You mentioned 30% profit a couple times. This is at the high end and with a 15% loss on sales (5% is non-refundable) there is a hefty gold sink built in to the TP. So to gain 30% profit on top of the 15% loss…well, there just aren’t that many things with that much profit margin. 15% clear profit is a more reasonable expectation. Without this 15% tax there would be even more money in the economy and items in the TP would be even more expensive. A larger problem, IMO, is the gem to gold conversion. Now some of the staunch will argue that all of the gold people buy come from in game by people that convert gold to gems for sale. Of course, this is just another flipping transaction (More of a long term investment) and people have made tons of money flipping gems. My personal opinion is that the gem to gold conversion should be killed as it injects more money in to the economy than the gold sinks can handle and until I see numbers from ANet no one will convince me that the gem store does not inject enormous amounts of gold in the economy that causes huge inflation. Flippers with big money, certainly not me with a meager couple hundred gold, don’t like ascended because it’s going to take the focus away from big ticket flipping items such as precursors, legendaries, and many of the top end exotics, such as destroyer weapons and so many other things. In general, this should hopefully bring the prices down somewhat on such items as they become more difficult, at least temporarily, to move. Legendaries should never have been tradeable, but imagine how expensive precursors would be if they weren’t.

Thats cute, you always recognize the people that have no understanding of economics, markets, and the necessity of trade because they are the ones that pull numbers out of thin air to validate their baseless opinions.

The trade post in this game actually redistributes wealth from people that farm alot or buy gems to trade for gold, as most of these players have the mentality of they must have the latest and greatest as soon as it can be obtained. Alot of money can be made off of players such at the OP that wanted their armor ASAP.

For example, I am a player with a full time job and a family, I have very few hours to play on a day to day basis but I have amassed a wealth comparable to a dedicated farmer. How? It just takes a little critical thinking and planning ahead, making long term investments in preparation of updates such as this one. Without the trade post, I wouldn’t have much as I HATE farming, and don’t have as many hours to generate income in game.

Congrats btw OP, may the advantage of having ascended armor before most people be long and fruitful.

Sorry I put my graphics to best performance when in wvw hahaha. I’m having second thoughts on the dwayna backpiece too tbh because of the balthazar one.. If they add lyssa i will definitely choose that over dwayna since in my personal story background, I chose Lyssa as my patron being a mesmer and all..

As far as the stats are concerned, I think somebody already made a thread about it and the overall increase in berserker is just like having a mere extra ruby orb. Again, I rushed my set for the sense of “completion” on my character, since when they started introducing ascended, I was never as happy as I was when I started playing gw2 thinking I already had BiS equips and only had to worry about cosmetics. But now that it’s done, I can play however I want again. It’s a good feeling for me especially in wintersday so I can focus on the aspects of the game that I like. XD

In my case yes, I tried to transmute directly from my exotic armors to the ascended but it won’t let me.. I had to use transmutation splitters first then use transmutation stones to transfer the skin.

I filed a ticket and posted in the game bugs section of the forum to confirm whether this is intentional or not..

Yea, I knew I could’ve had the set in half the cost if i waited a day or so.. But ascended items were like an itch i couldn’t scratch when it was announced. So I had to get rid of it by making it asap and now I’m pretty satisfied.. My issue now is about exotic skins not being transmutable to ascended armor skins. I don’t really like the idea that we have to buy transmutation splitters first before we can transmute. :/

You should just check reviews on gw2 economy on the internet by people with “proper understanding”.

Because its not as you say..

1st part with ascended….
Players have to get the best armor asap….
What about being locked out of your faorite part of the game until you get it?
(dunno if you can suggets me a cheap way to get 70 AR…..)

What about the manipulation of demand by people joining to drain resources from the tp and create a false lack of?
(you know its illegal in real economy?)
Do we want to talk about sigil of generosity for example?

But MOSTLY do we want to talk about how farming is continuosly nerfed and how TP flipping that generates enormous amount of moneys (more than 100X comparing to a farmer) is untouched?

Or about the effect having on rare items AND GEMS being available easily to flippers and out of reach of any other player not using real moneys?
(permanent contracts, rare skins etc……).

Do we want to discuss how many flippers bought dozens precursor to resell them (increased 400% in price in one week …see minstrel for example and it wasn t redesigned at all)

You can try to deny it but we see how stuff work…
Your income is at real players cost + 30% taxes and ALSO you have no real risk…..unless you made real huge mistakes (see gossamer…..that was really easy to see).

Ok so the issue with me not being able to transmute from exotic to ascended directly might pose a bigger problem than I thought, particularly to those who plan to use T3 cultural armors.. :/ If you use a transmutation splitter, will your T3 armor become a skin so that you can use it for your ascended armor?

Either way, if it’s intentional, I don’t think it’s very nice to force us to use splitters or buy new skins from the gem store in order to change our ascended armor’s appearance. I just hope it’s a bug. I’ll update you guys once customer support responds to my ticket.

HMM seems like it IS a bug since someone said they were able to transmute a priory skinned exotic armor to an ascended. It sounds like the bug is from the flamekissed armor skin.

Gossamer was a mistake. Lets see. I bought about 20k Gossamer scraps at what…. 1s a piece back before weapons were released and then sold them for 8-9s a piece the week before armor came out? What a mistake!!!!!

The bug for transmuting, from what I can tell, is specific to the Flamekissed armor. That skin was pulled from the trading post and is slated for replacement as soon as the new set is complete. It’s probably flagged internally and causing issues.

It is so EASY to power trade on the TP, and yet so many people complain about it.

Where are you pulling this 30% from? I can make up numbers too.

If you buy and reselll in order to create demand and gain a margin you have to get past

15% taxes that the “farmer” will lose
15% sell taxes

And your profit…

Obviously its not 30% (because the prices are different and the second 15% has the first 15% transaction cost added)i simplified it.

So instead going from
Farmer +15% taxes => player needing it
with benefit of both final user and farmer we will have

we have
farmer +15%=> TP flipper => buyer that will pay 15% more and then also your profit.

Proof of this system inequity:
It will work only if FEW do that ….when too many tries instead the system fails (see gossamer)

The best part of gossamer incident is that bad flippers paid your revenue in this case was even worse:

Farmer=>flipper1=>flipper 2=> late flipper…..=> sold with loss of late flipper…..

Even i bought my gossamer cheap…..but i bought the amount i needed for my personal use…and didn t resell any.

This system would be only acceptable if TP war was the main part of the game and you could win by dominating the TP….its not in a game called guild wars 2 based on Killing stuff.
