i crafted my firts armor/weapon set for my main. now i just wait for a chest drop in fractals or somewhere else and change the stat accordingly to the build i have in mind for other alts. it’s not fast because you have no control over your drop, but i will not craft ascended anytime soon. you can also complete collections, some of those will give you ascended backpack and of course the specialization collection will give you weapons

Probably a mix of luck, crafting and achievements. Getting into fractals is a good idea since you can get whole boxes as loot. The necessary AR you can put to your ascended trinkets.

Next thing you should do is looking at doable achievements like specialization collections, luminescent armor collection and leyline armor collection.

In the most cases you probably need to farm like mad for the last few pieces but I suggest you use your ascended chests to craft the big ones such as chest piece and leggings.

If for some reason you get a chest with undesirable stats you’re able to swap those stats to your liking in the forge. This is especially important if you want to craft the new set since crafting those cost a lot more than using the vanilla recipes and converting to a new stat set (crafting viper is more expensive than crafting valkyrie and stat swapping to viper).

In the end you just gotta play the game till you get enough materials/luck.

The easiest is to get it as a drop, which is most likely in Fractals. But this is random so there’s no guarentee you’ll actually get one.

the safest and most reliable is to craft it. You need to level crafting to 500 to make it, but then you can make however many sets you like with whatever stat combination you want (from the ones available, still waiting for my condi/power/toughness set).

BTW I assume you mean you’re not worried about trinkets because you already know how to get them. But if you mean you don’t want them I’d strongly recommend you reconsider because they’re both easier to get (you can buy most of them with laurels) and actually have a bigger impact on your build than weapons and armour.

Thank you all.

Trinkets are easier to get that’s why i said i was not worried about them.

Good tips for ascended gear. I will do a little research on crafting ascended gear but it seems like fractals will be a little easier just may not get what i am looking for. Again, thanks.

I have an asc weapon and two pieces of asc armour, all from random drops. I had a plan to craft the remaining pieces but the cost is such that whenever I craft one of the components I end up selling it on the TP rather than stashing it. There may come a day where my priorities change but for now I’ve got better uses for the gold!

I maxed and huntsman and weaponsmith then crafted 6-8 weapons before I ever got my first drop. The one and only piece of armor came from a WvW rank up, the rest were crafted. From what I understand, Fractals are probably your best bet for ascended gear. I ran SW for quite awhile but all of the ascended drops were recipes which are now sitting in storage collecting dust.

Or be like me, craft your first set, be broke, craft and collections the second set, be broke. Spend $50 craft the third set, not be broke. o/
I play fractals and never got a box before, but I know people who have dozens of unopened boxes.
Raids are a way but will take a long long time. To the point where it might not be worth it.

I got 1 weapon chest and 1 armor chest, bought a greatsword and heavy leg armour with them. Converted to Zojja in mystic forge… profit. Also made 4 other armour pieces with armoursmithing, which is quite doable if you play some PvE once in a while (fractals and whatnot).

Thing about fractal is that to be getting ascended chests you will most likely be doing high level fractals which really means you already have a lot of ascended stuff for the required agony resistance.

I really think for your first set you will most likely just have to bite the bullet and craft it. In the mean time make sure to run teq every day for the chance of a weapon chest drop other things to do are complete the leystone armour collection armour pieces are purchasable for map currency now so it is easily farmable and will give you a free armour chest and the events will give you gold and materials for crafting other ascended stuff.
If you are into pvp wvw rank chests can give you ascended drops and i assume the new reward tracks can aswell. In spvp there is a belief that the glorious reward track has a slightly higher chance of providing ascended stuff and my anecdotal evidence is this is true.

Once you have one character fairly decked out in ascended stuff you can put ar resistance stuff on your gear and do the daily high level fractals for a good chance of ascended drops.

Great advice man. I didn’t realize the whole AR for higher fractals thing. This looks the best route for me right now, thanks/

Definately achievements. Best is to go for ones that will end with you having quite a bit of gold.

Bioluminescence for example requires quite a bit of farming events in Silverwastes and the reqard is an ascended chest piece (most expensive armor part). Once done you’ll have farmed enough gold for 1-2 more pieces.

Otherwise farming gold will get you there, but you might burnout if you try to rush an entire set.

Finally running fractals has a low chance to net you a chest before you get to high level fractals (for better chance at chests). Might as well start climbing the fractal reward ladder while at it.

You don’t need armor to do a bunch of high level fractal. You can prepare your trinkets to reach 94 AR just with your trinkets alone with normal AR in them.

If you focus on weapons first, either with achievement (there is a couple of achievement that give you ascended weapons like the Elite Spec weapons, etc), drop (Teq) or crafting then you gonna be able to reach 108, which will allow you to complete the Tier 3 fractal. That should give you around 10% chance to drop an armor piece each day and Tier 3 only take like 30-45min.

I would still recommended to reach 500 in your crafting professions and start to accumulate material and do your daily crafting. But by the time you gonna have enough material to craft your armor, you probably gonna have like 2-3 chest already. Plus fractal can drop your ascended material now, so it will help for your crafting.

Mystic forge lower level karma weapons/armor for materials, spend some time gathering the rest (nodes are per-character, so you can bring them all to one area, leave them there and wait for respawns), then do dungeons, fractals, or open world content for silk, and then Craft it.

I got a weap chest of Teq a few weeks ago… my first asc weap… and it fortuitously used the stats that one of my toons uses. This gave me the encouragement to shortly thereafter craft my second one because I had the mats saved up.

I looked at possibly crafting armor, but the stat differences from exotic don’t seem to be a good payoff for all the mats required to craft (to me), so at most I might make asc coat and pants…. but I’m still on the fence leaning towards nope.

I’ll likely craft one or two more asc weapons, assuming I don’t get another lucky Teq drop. I have alts always farming the mats required so I don’t have to buy them off the TP, and I’ve got a lot saved up.

  • Crafting is the fastest and most reliable method, also the most expensive: level discipline(s) up to 500, buy stuff on TP, craft. (Change stats using mystic forge as applicable.)
  • Raids can be fast, for those good at them. They are also ‘expensive’ in the sense that you need a lot of raid-tokens, which then can’t be used for other interesting items. The cost in coin is, however, modest.
  • Fractals are a fairly reliable way. Daily loot chests seem to drop ascended boxes at a fairly decent rate.
  • Similarly, WvW rank up chests seem to have a good chance.
  • Other sources include world boss chests, pvp chests, and even random mobs
