Best Jumping Puzzle EVER
I died 3 times till i finished it.
well, it was fun and such, but I don’t find myself repeating it regularly, like some other JP.
There are very few JP’s that I like to repeat once completed, but you do raise an interesting point. As this new JP has such a huge area, it seems a shame there are no events or activities to particiape in. Once the majority of the player base has finished this puzzle it could end up as a large empty and unused area.
I would love to see some interesting events added to parts of this zone. Obviously nothing that would disrupt those doing the jumping parts, but there is plenty of space to add events without them getting in the way.
I’m seeing a disturbing pattern here: “forcing” players to do things that maybe not enough players like. Maybe not enough players like WvW so lets make an entire zone with WvW mechanics. Maybe not enough players like JP so lets make a zone that is one big JP.
I understand that many players do like these mechanics and I have no problem with Anet adding more and more optional WvW (EotM) and JP. But I do have a problem with this game which was supposed to be “play as you like” forcing players to do things they don’t like to do.

Have you thought about it the other way? They’re trying to bring people from WvW into the living story? Or people that like jumping? They’ve been using the same maps/ puzzles since launch… Plus the puzzle isn’t mandatory no matter what any one says.
Shoes come from the defense event, the only benefit to the JP is the tonic and rare items.

The Living Story is also optional. They shouldn’t try to force people to play that either.
I completed it for the rewards and the AP’s, nothing else. I won’t say how long it took.
The JP gave me a roaring headache, I found utterly no joy in doing it and it only reaffirms my hatred of jumping puzzles.

Some tips for newbies, now that I finished it 3 times already.
- If you die, a skritt will rez you, so you are ok.
- Follow the Elixirs, they tell you where to go next.
- The puzzle is so big that it takes the entire map. You will get to the surface and then back down to the caves a few times, don’t worry, as long as you follow the elixirs you are ok.
- You got a buff that tracks milestones.
- If you disconnect or move to another overflow, the milestones don’t dissapear.
- If you fall down or find an skritt tunnel before the cauldron, that means you failed. Pay money to the skritt nearby to port you up to your last milestone. That way you don’t need to start the entire puzzle (1gold = last milestone. 1silver = previous one. 1copper = the one before previous one). The buff lasts 60 minutes so you can safely kill yourself 400 times without losing progress.
- There’s coins everywhere in the puzzle, I already got 28 so look around.
- If you are stuck at the 8/9 part where there’s a golden chest… well, you went wrong. Go down a bit, go up again and try to find the 3 tunnels togethers (i spent 40minutes the first time trying to find that).
- If you are at the beggining waypoint but you got milestones, just go to the boat and jump down before entering it, there’s a pool of water to land safely. Downthere find the nearest skritt tunnel, pay for your taxi and get up to your milestone.

I found it absolutely amazing. Its size and complexity are spectacular.
My friend and I spent about 3 hours going everywhere and we really enjoyed it. The skritts were also really good and made me laugh a few time. The chest at the end bugged for us. It said something about missing 1 or more milestones although we had the achievement. Activating the chest a second time gave us the items.
Very impressive work.
This is my new favorite place in the game.
You have to interact with the chest twice regardless. Once to unlock(and possibly spawn the skritt). Then a second time to loot the content.
Did you try using a second set of keys on the chest? That is probably what triggered the missing milestone message.

You can just walk towards the lower end of the boat/beginning of the puzzle. There is a milestone tunnel there too.
What I can do with Dowsing Rod?
Take it to the skritt at the top of the ship.
Note that people are reporting that giving the skritt the Dowsing Rod currently doesn’t do anything. It’s unclear if this is intended or a bug, so you may want to hold onto it for a bit.
Someone said it causes the skritt to do a particular animation.
Also based on the dialog with the skritt at the end it doesn’t seem there was supposed to be any rewards. If anyone is going back there try to take some screenshots of the dialog?
The dialog …
I like this JP, good work
I spent most of the day in the new JP yesterday, very fun! More of an exploratory feel, less of a skilled platformer type thing.
And it’s vast! Extends past the current Silverwastes boundary. All those ancient ruins underneath, feels very mysterious.
I also happened to see Mr. Josh Foreman himself in there going after a Golden Coin – it was one where you can take the long skinny cable from the boat to the cliffside, he laughed at us that thought that was way to enter the JP and directed us to the south of the boat.
Big thumbs up for this content, thoroughly enjoyable

Well, i might just ask, anyone got all 30 badges? i got 28/30.

Awesome addition to the zone and the game. It felt epic but not overly technical for those just wishing to complete it – with greater challenges for those going after all those golden coins.
Just as importantly, it (and the Pac Man maze) dont really detract from Silverwastes as a zone or water down the breach preparations and events.
I really love the direction this game is taking. I like thinking of Dry Top and Silverwastes as huge PVE dynamic events/activities – with minigames and jumping puzzles dispersed throughout.
I have this vision in my head of what the game may look like in 2-3 years if they keep this up – with a dozen or so zones – each with objectives and activities a little different than the last – that my guild/friends can pick and choose from for large group activities.
Keep up the amazing work.
Little over hour in there with mouth in wide grin! That jumping puzzle was awesome! Vast area and a suitably difficult task, just perfect. Thank you
JP was good for the 30-45 minutes it lasted. I wished Anet would work on new WvW maps would will play for 500 hours instead instead of content you rush through once and then forget about.
You have to interact with the chest twice regardless. Once to unlock(and possibly spawn the skritt). Then a second time to loot the content.

Oh yes, that’s probably what happen. I was doing it with my friend so we probably used the keys at the same time.
Loved it. Now that i’ve been through it, end to end, a few times, it’s a trivial period of time considering the physical length of it. My favourite part was discovering the whole additional section (starting at the cauldron) after I thought it was done.
Turn off Dulfy and experience the adventure as it was intended.
To rush is to fail at the core goal of every game I can think of: fun.
Ps: i have completed all the puzzles, except for the two seasonal ones with time limits… Because time limits force me to rush.
A little stressed that new area is all jumping puzzle. Have only been playing GW2 (or any online game) since September. I’m extreme newbie…with that said, I have enjoyed GW2 allot! Have created 5 characters (four already at level 80) and am curious which character/type might be best to try and take on this new puzzle. Human, Charr, Asura…?Any suggestions for this Nana Newbie Gamer? I’d be most grateful

There’s 2 on the boat if you haven’t gotten those yet.

I just finished it after 2 hours. Without guides, without friends, without help. The hard way! and I never had more fun in a game for a loong time. I love silverwastes caves
Nice job Anet!
Keep the good work! +1
Was about 2 hours for me too, but I afk’d for a good 30+ minutes.
I loved this zone-wide jumping puzzle. I want more jumping puzzles like this.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
But I do have a problem with this game which was supposed to be “play as you like” forcing players to do things they don’t like to do.
Who says you have to do the JP? I don’t get your point…

yeah, it took me about 2 hours to complete. i was heavily immersed and it was funny seeing other players take a wrong skritt tunnel and start back at the bottom of the last part. i REALLY enjoyed the parts where it takes you outside the bases and can view the airships and general scenery a lot better.
Part 1-8: loved it. Could have gone caving/sightseeing for another hour. Wonderful.
Part 8-9: the skritt holes were maybe a bit much – by the end I just wanted it to be over I shook my fist and shouted certain developers’ names a lot.
But it was totally worth it, already looking forward to doing a separate run for the gold coins.
I now wear my Honorary Skritt title with pride.

ahh, i knew a bunch were “just” hidden. im very proud to have gotten to #7 on that list on my own (and as mesmer), and to have found 20 before seeing a guide.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions

There are a huge number of games with jumping puzzles in them, go play those- they are called platform games. Shinies at the end of them too!
Personally I think it’s a huge waste of design effort to make something that players will do once (maybe twice) or just not bother doing at all.

A lot of people use Asura for jumping puzzles, since their small presence allows for accurate jumps and minimal screen interference. I find I do best with humans or sylvari, actually, because I have wee troubles with detecting velocity with the wee folk.
If you want a challenge, use a max-sized Charr.

It’s ok to not like things but you don’t have to be grumpy about it.
Gods, the thought of this is terrifying to me.
Echo that, Shadowflame.
I’m also willing to wager that the puzzle is, as usual, racist against Charr.
As a Charr… not nearly so much as the others. But then, I’ve done every single JP in the game, now, as a Charr.
Not, sadly, as the SAME Charr, I need to go fix that, in case there’s a cheev.
I still have not tried this JP yet. I found it, I tried starting it. My knees gave out in sheer terror / anticipated frustration, and I waypointed my sorry butt right on out of there.
XD

Oh my, I fear I will respond the same way to this new jp and adventure…may have to be brave and just go for it though

Thanks Rauder, I’ll give my human mesmer a go with it first…despite my inability to do jumping puzzles very well. Simply put, I suck at them. LOL But the Asura makes sense for ease of quick jumps and maneuverability. Thanks again for insight and info!
Some of the views were breathtaking.
The jumps themselves were very easy – what makes this JP a bit of a pain is figuring out where to go next, and the sheer length of it. Not the jumping itself (unlike some other JPs). The Skritt kits are a big help, plus: cute as pie.
I approve of this JP and I will do it again.

Thank you so much for this excellent puzzle! Not only was it challenging, it also was starkly beautiful and even the noises in the area fit it perfectly.
My wife and I had a gloriously frustrating time making our ways through. Loved it, loved it, loved it! This is one of the JPs that I will run repeatedly.

I love jumping puzzles. There’s a particular excitement when I find one as I’m doing a 100% on a map area. I picture my character walking into these places slowly and cautiously with a torch in hand.
Echoing the I love this jumping puzzle sentiment. Loved the scenery/feel/atmosphere of it.
It’s great, love it. However, not even ambient life can be found there, feels weird. Such wast spaces, it would be truly great if they would make some events happening there.
Would be great if we could have one of them under Dry top only with Asura ruins…. but… lore-wise I don`t know if Asuras where so far up north when they lived underground.
Stinky McLane… the only Necro known to have a toothpaste fetish
Lefty (give me a second) Fiddlesticks… one Engineer, two clumbsy hands…
Regarding following the elixirs, that works most of the time, BUT I have explored many areas off the beaten path looking for badges and there are some elixirs that are NOT on the way to the end of the jumping puzzle so don’t assume that because you see a speed elixir station that you are doing it right.
I have 30/30 badges, although I had to consult Dulfy to get them. Badges #7 and #30 on their guide are extremely difficult (#7 especially) because you fall over and over and over and have to restart from the beginning. Best way to do those is with a team of two mesmers. One stays in place while the other goes a short distance, then the one that stayed in place gets a port to the one that went forward a short distance. If you try it solo with a mesmer you might get half way through and then your “safety portal” fails because you die in the fall. Of course, if you don’t have a mesmer . . . you should probably consider not getting all 30 badges. Why? Badge #7 took me 6 hours. Four of those hours were wasted trying it solo. It took two more hours with me on my mesmer teamed up with another mesmer using the system I just described. I would not even attempt #7 or #30 without a mesmer character now that I know how difficult they are.
I love this puzzel, its vast, occupying the entire map, crossing both the great messa’s far above the battleground, and massive intricate caverns deep below. The terrain atop the messas is beautiful and the complexity of this puzzel is amazing! Though… it would have been a nightmare to do without friends or Dulfy, I couldn’t immagine solo exploring this; I tried from the begining, but then quickly joined a group that seemed to know what thyey were doing. lucky for me, they did! I mean, dulfy is great and all, but I hate looking back and forth between my computor and phone.
It is fun, but imo it’s not a JP. You don’t need any precision in doing it. I prefer JPs like “not so secret” (or all of the SAB levels ) where you really have to think about your position and your jumps.
Gods, the thought of this is terrifying to me.
Echo that, Shadowflame.
I’m also willing to wager that the puzzle is, as usual, racist against Charr.
I did this with my charr. Some of the jumps were a bit wonky because of walking on small ledges but other than that it worked perfectly fine : )
As much as I’m glad to see a different type of JP, I hated this one.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate all of it. The scenery was beautiful and the marker system was great….
But the thing felt like it was more of a test in patience to find the right skritt holes near the end than it was a test of jumping. After constantly getting ported way back from taking the wrong skritt hole, I gave up on this one last night. Sure, I could have just followed a guide and spent my time playing Dulfy.net instead of GW2, but that would have been pretty lame since so few of the jumps really had any challenge.
Bleh…
It might have taken me two hours, but I finished it the day it came out (without any sort of guide). I loved it, and so I also have to pass along my kudos to those who helped design this.
Gods, the thought of this is terrifying to me.
Echo that, Shadowflame.
I’m also willing to wager that the puzzle is, as usual, racist against Charr.
Care to explain more?
Excellent jumping puzzle.
The JP itself was very easy, but I loved how it utilized the entire map and had plenty of cool vistas (the only thing I didn’t like was the trial and error ending). What I liked most was that even though the puzzle itself is easy, some of those gold medallions are placed in very tricky areas creating optional moderate- very hard mini JPs.

I love how big the place is, the scenery is just wow. Well spent 2 hours
