Nobody really knows the name of the last, 6th dragon, or Deep Sea Dragon. People generally just refer to it as Bubbles or Steve, now after we know that its name starts with the letter “S”. So, taken that GW has a lot of names which refer to Abrahamic religions, especially Judaism (Abaddon means either one of hell’s parts or “Angel of the abyss”. In Gnosticism (one of Christianity’s early versions) Abaddon is the Devil himself. Zhaitan resembles Islam’s version of the Devil, “Shaitan”. Seraphs are 6-winged angels that circle around Yahweh’s (Jahve’s) throne is Judaism, and in Christianity they are the archangels. Ascalón (also Ashkelon) is a real city in Israel and so on…) or Latin, especially the Elder Dragons (Primordus which means something like “The Beginning” (primordium) or “First Disease” (primus morbus). Mordremoth could refer to death (mors, more precisely its accusative form mortem) or then it means something like “To Bite, The Biter” (Mordere)) I decided to list some possible names for Bubbles / Steve inspired by that.

So, here are some possible name suggestions for Bubbles / Steve:

-Shamir (A giant worm that carved the first temple of Jerusalem. Makes sense because it was a giant worm, and maybe Bubbles resembles a sea serpent like dragon?)
-Samael (the archangel of death who is sometimes described as a daemon.)
-Shedim (Daemons that have said to been descendants of sea serpents.)
-Sulak (Devil of the bathroom Makes sense since bathrooms have water in them.)
-Saepimentum (Latin word for an “obstacle, barrier”. Bubbles did prevent all sea traffic between Tyria, Elona and Cantha, so makes sense.)
-Salum (Latin word for “water’s surface”.)
-Sinuare (Latin word for “to twist”. Also refers to “sinuous, twisting”. If Bubbles is a sea serpent, it would make sense that it moves by twisting its body, like a sea snake.)
-Spuma (Latin word for “foam, froth”.)
-Submarinus (Latin word for “underwater”.)

Well, those are just a couple of suggestions that came to my mind. If you have any other ideas, please share them so that we can finally solve the mystery behind Bubbles’ real name

Samael is bit doubtful since his other name is Abbadon…

But wait. Abbadon is the god of water and secrets too…

Sinuare seems cool. Personally I prefer Steve though.

Some other sea creatures from different cultures could have affected it’s name like -

Scylla – a sea monster from Greek mythology
Sisiutl – a mythological creature from indigenous tribes of the Northwest pacific (according to wiki I’d never heard of him)

Scylla is a female so unless Abbadon underwent a sex change during the transformation to a dragon that won’t work. As the op eluded to I think it will be a cross of various names to form a new one altogether with roots in real lore.

Ah right. I’m not deeply involved in the lore discussions so yeah I did miss something :-P

A long while back I commented on a thread here about something or other I can’t be bothered to look up now. What I take from it was another player’s naming of the DSD:

"Krakenstein"

I’ve called it that ever since.

Why not Canthan name like Shenron or something

I recall a theory that the human gods were the equivalent of elder dragons on their original world, but I’ve not heard one that they literally are the same beings. It doesn’t make very much sense at all, to be honest. Do you have a link to a discussion supporting it?

I will buy gems ASAP if ANet at least has someone in-game calling the Deep Sea Dragon “Bubbles”. I will buy lots of them if it’s a recurring thing among DE 2.0

these words would sound funny for Latin America and Spain players (and anybody else who knows spanish), also, I’m quite sure Portuguese has similarities as well since both are latin languages.

GW takes names from a lot of cultures. Jormag and most norn stuff are named after Norse cultures. A lot of charr is taken from Roman, Greek, and Mongolian culture.

More than just the abrahamic.

The DSD is likely to share a theme with anything that may have inspired parts of quaggan or krait cultures.

Btw, doesn’t Malchor’s Dwayna look like either a largos or a dragon-like creature?

Would be kinda twisted to see the Six being actually manifestations of dragons… You know, they would assure the use of magic so it wouldn’t be lost, and therefore make sure there will still be food for their sleeping selves.

My theory (which will be invalidated in a few minutes I assume ^^) about Scarlet and Mordremoth… Maybe Mordy wasn’t supposed to awaken since Abaddon isn’t there anymore ( if Abaddon were linked to jungle and plants ), and Kormir (even if she’s a spotlight stealer) didn’t want an ED to roam Tyria and destroy everything. Maybe Scarlet forced Mordy’s natural awakening with the leylines?

It would be really twisted if the devs thought so, yet kinda interesting to see

Very true. My suggestions were based on the other Elder Dragons, from which only Jormag has nordic name (probably Jörmungandr, the world serpent). Kralkatorrik’s name’s origin is a mystery for me.

His minions are known as the Schlerite (as the BL weapon set is named after them). Start from there.

I like “Shedim”, especially as it fits right in with the Largos, who probably know a lot more about the sea dragon than we do at this point in time.

That’s Sclerite. And nothing points to that being the names of his minions. Though such is possible, sclerite is the hard shells of crustaceans (more or less, as I understand it).

Hence my suggestion in the lore forum: Scleritethin. Because Mordrem and Mordremoth. 8D

Though in all honesty, his name likely isn’t a kin to the minions’ name. Only Mordremoth has that scenario atm.

If a name isn’t chosen yet, they should run a competition, with the winning name appearing in game via some lore connection. Like a lost scroll/tome or something, or a largos NPC.

Possibly named after the Krakatoa volcano, which had one of the most powerful recorded eruptions in recent history. I’ve not managed to find anything else it might resemble, personally, and I’ve really tried. xD

DSD may have also simply something in its name like “serpens” or “mare” if the Latin theme returns, but I agree with KDT that it could just as well have a name with a completely different origin. I actually think that could be a refreshing change.

Bubbles will be my name for it no matter what, though. Just because. >.>
