Exciting! I’ll start forming my proposal. Thanks Chris!
Thanks for the heads-up, Chris. =)
No worries I am excited to and sorry for the delay.
chris
Hey Chris! Was wondering what time of the day you’d be starting this glad to hear from you! Cant wait! This phase will be my favorite! I have MANY ideas for this one lol.
Good stuff… Guilds need a good bit of TLC so can’t wait to see what we all come up with together!
awesome, thanks Chris!
p.s: can we clone you so we can multithread the process and speedup things noticeably? uh? can we? can we?
The last time I read about this CDI, I heard that GvG implementation is one of the topics.
Any idea how long it’ll take us to get to that topic? Is that one of the first or last topics?
awesome, thanks Chris!
p.s: can we clone you so we can multithread the process and speedup things noticeably? uh? can we? can we?
I doubt it (-: not this time.
I want to be able to give each phase as much attention as possible sorry.
Chris
Hey Chris,
Though I work for a Logistics company and have an understanding for what you may be looking for under QoL and Logistics Management, I would think maybe some of our younger forum contributors and/or people not familiar with corporate speak might need a bit of description to tie in a definition of what you would consider Logistics Management and Quality of Life.
This may keep some submissions more clear and concise.

It won’t be the last phase of the main topic and it will be included.

I will be sure to explain in the first post of the CDI. (-:

Hi Zoso,
Around 2pm PST.
Chris
I will be looking forward to this as much as I am looking forward to having my guild message of the day appear to all my guild members in their chat box when they log in :P
@Chris: aww dang…I tried, well when we have someone that actually listen to us the first thought is obviously “let’s clone this!”. Oh, it’s not? xD
@Yalora: that’s a good idea, the more precise is the question, the more precise -hopefully- will be the answer.
Guild Halls:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_hall
Nothing would add life to Guilds QoL more than having an actual home to practice and meet in before a raid or mission.
Sir, I have a concern: when the Guild CDI goes live, many people are going to suggest many features ANet won’t be able to develop due to technical limitations.
When this happens, you devs are going to address every single suggestion and say “We can’t do this beacause X”? It’s possible, but you’d waste too much time.
May I suggest to create a CDI sub-thread named “CDI – Technical Q&A” where players just ask “Would you be able to do X?” and you answer “yes” or “no” with just a minimum explanation?
I think this would save us time!

Now this would be way better than asking us for suggestion and doing kittenall with it.
I am not so “excited” about this.
It seems like Chris is going to establish all the posting parameters in his initial post.
As a note Chris, please include something along the lines of:

My Proposal ~ Topic: Guilds, Sub Topic: Quality of Life & Logistics
Heres my Brainstorming about how Guilds can be improved to provide a better logistics with the help of some quality of life improvements/changes.
Guild Halls/Islands – There’s no logistics without a headquarter
1) There is basically no logicstics without Guild Halls/Islands, like we had them in GW1.
They were the main guild instances which worked like headquarters to have a place as a guild, where you could discuss everything in regard of logistics , what your plans of the day are and so on, without being disturbed by others, everyone being at the same place from which you could easily reach all of the main towns and self also easily reachable by having its own outpost symbol on the map to get instantly into your head quarters if needed from basically everywhere in the game.
The best quality of life improvement compared to GW1 would be, to implement here an option in the Guild Menu, that lets us from there travel instantly to our Guild Island Instance. its easier, than to put outpost onto the world map somewhere and easier to access from everywhere i nthe game, regardless if you stand in WvW, somewhere in PvP or just in the SPvP lobby – 1 click on G and click then “To the Guild Headquarter” and flash, you are after a loading screen on your guild’s custom guild island with its guild hall ect. which can be later expanded also with influence ect.
The Guild Traits – Lesser Grind, more Fun by doing Guild Missions
2) One thing that would be in my opinion a great quality of life improvement, is if you would remove the influence grind from improving the Guild Traits.
Make out of Guild Traits some task related unlocks similar to unlocking Character Traits, where you have to do certain things to get new Traits or just pay gold.
This way would get the game also a nice new gold sink
Access to Guild Missions must become easier this way. Too much Time Gating locked behind all this Influence Grind.
Change the Influence System – Make out of it a Reputation System
3) Influence should get replaced into a Reputation System.
Reputation should be used then to progress with your Guild and build it up to let it become one day a big Guild Castle/Town on your own custom island instance, while doing Guild Missions just is part of unlocking the Guild Traits from that point on.
Reduce Production Times to 0 – Time is Money – A simple QoL improvment
4) Seriously, why the hell do we have to wait like 4 weeks, until a new Guild Trait Level is reached, or why do we have to wait for like 4hours or so to get a Banner produced.
Guild Wars 2 is no freaking Strategy Browser Game like Galaxy Wars, where you wait countless of hours, until a production has finished.
Let us produce stuff like Guild Banners ect. instantly. Period.
Reduction of Currencies – The Removal of Guild Commendations
5) Just remove it and replace it with “Guild Karma”
Guild Karma will be just a shared pool of Karma, that Guild Members can donate to their Guild Karma Pool.
Donating Karma to your guild will reward you as a player, so that players will also have an intention to donate some of their Karma to their Guild and the Guild Leader can turn the Guild Karma then from a Guild Karma Vendor into rewards, which would have costed before Guild Commodation. This way we have removed an obsolete currency from the game. Yay!
Out of Two become One – The Guild Fusion!
6) Enable us please finally to merge Guilds together. There are always situations, where a Guild due to inactivity would go into an active guild, but the active guild beign much lesser build up, than the inactive one. So why don’t let both sides profitate from a merge, letting the active guild getting the few remaining players from the dieing guild, those players get into an active guild and the now fused guild profitates from the fusion by getting upgraded to the same build up level of the old dieing guild giving the guild leader of the taking over guild the chance also this way to rename his guild and naturallygive it a new emblem ect.
More Diversity – Emblem Art
7) Simple thing, please increase the optinos for creating nice looking guild emblems.
More background options, alot more colors please ect.
More Guild Rewards – The Guild Reward Tracker
8) I would find it cool, if you could earn together as a guild similar to the PvP Reward Tracker also rewards, which would let us earn new special Guild Weapon Sets and Guild Armor sets, which should also go as high as Ascended Quality.
(edited by Orpheal.8263)
@Orpheal…you might want to wait to post your proposal in the actual CDI.
oops, this wasnt the actual one ? lol sorry xD
I just got hyped ^^
I hope that Guild Wars will actually become Guild focused. No bases, no capes, no GvG. I was very underwhelmed by GW2’s guild features (or severe lack thereof) in comparison with guild wars prophecies/original
QoL and Logistic Management… why do I foresee just a UI update and some mechanics and tons of disappointment?
When people say they want guild changes, they refer to guild halls and GvG. I don’t think you are connecting properly with what the community really wants. Please don’t deliver another trait system in exchange for skill hunting.
Wow, 2 days prior to start and its already better then the Ranger CDI thread….
When people say they want guild changes, they refer to guild halls and GvG.
I am a guild leader. Guild Halls and GvG are two of the items lowest on my priority list. That’s not to say I don’t want those things, I just consider them considerably less important than other improvements.

Good, but the other 99,99% of the player base who is not a GM don’t care for UI changes and want guild content to play with the guild members… not to play with the guild UI.
awesome, thanks Chris!

I didn’t say that all I wanted was UI changes. You’re awfully quick to assume.
There are some automation and UI changes I’d like to see, sure. For example, I’d like to be able to roll a 24/7 WvW +5 supply without having to constantly babysit it. Same thing with buffs for captured objectives. It’d be nice to have a separate tab for WvW buffs and I can choose which buffs should be running with a corresponding influence/hour or /12 hour cost. I should have the option to run once or run continuously (until influence is expended).
I’d also like to see guild commander functionality and better control over permissions. Perhaps that puts me in the 0.01%, but those are important features for guilds.
That said, what do I want content-wise beyond halls and GvG? New guild missions or mission types. Reasons for guilds to capture and hold objectives in WvW. Guild Games or other sandbox features. Guild contests or lotteries with built-in support for that functionality.
Guild Halls are just a place to idle instead of a main city. Boooooooring.
Kool sounds promising!
Guild Halls are just a place to idle instead of a main city. Boooooooring.
Why do they have to be only that? A guild hall can be as much or as little as ArenaNet wish it to be. I know many games where guild bases/halls/realms/etc are fundamental to guild functionality and operation, as well as offer a wide range of activities, missions and the like
Guild Air Ships.
Nice. Looking forward to this.
Lets just hope for the best
How long do you anticipate spending per phase? I’m looking forward to participating but alas this Wednesday is a rare night out for me so I’ll have an hour or so at the CDI’s start and then it will get tremendously long while I’m away
It would be interesting to start the thread off with a few summaries pooled from the dev team about;
1 – why Guild Halls were not felt to be something core to launch considering their integral part of the original game
2 – their current vision for guilds and how they fit in with the pillars of the game
3 – Anything that they might be working on that falls within the remit of what can be communicated to us.
Not so the community can beat the team with a stick, but to provide valuable perspective/insight and start the discussion off strongly.
Some things I’d definitely want to see are:
:-:-:-: Ranked Matchmaking :-:-:-:
:-: Construct a ranking system which will place you in PvP (sPvP and tPvP) and GvG matches based on your ranking, so all the players will be on similar skill and experience level.
- Example: finding the 5 versus 5 players with the same total matchmaking rating, so players with lower and higher skill can still join together, but balancing out the game significantly. Of course it would still be unfair if 1 person with 5000 rating points ends up with 4 players with 0 points on their first ranked match, playing against 5 players with 1000 points. But I guess you can figure that out ;-). Work some magic formulas in there, balance this stuff out.
:-:-:-: Guild Capes :-:-:-: (simple request, not so easy to execute I’ve heard – just promise you will eventually, we all love capes!)
:-: Don’t you just want to jump around with a nice cape and your guild logo on your back?
:-: Please also further expand the variety of logo’s/emblems we can choose from in the guild emblem creation menu
:-: Add an RGB panel where you can select a color, rather than just a limited set? (What about the ability to use all the dyes you’ve unlocked as Guild emblem colors)
:-:-:-: Guild halls :-:-:-: (and some things that should come along with having one)
:-: Ability to select or buy your own Guild Hall location and Node type (using either influence or gold);
- Node type could be: Cap points, Flag placement, Orb run, Beasts to slay in order to obtain a bonus for your team;
:-: Ability to upgrade your hall with merchants/bank/guild vendors etc;
:-: Guild vs Guild battles in your or the opponents Guild Castle (50/50% chance);
:-: A place to execute 1 v 1 up to 25 v 25 battles in name of the Guild;
- Wouldn’t you want to see your best fighter(s) take on the opposing Guild in a 1 v 1 to determine a victory from time to time, or just a glorious 10 v 10 or 20 v 20 battle? (Ranked or NonRanked);
- For these 1 v 1’s or 3 v 3’s or whatever small fights, you’d need a smaller duelling area in the theme of the Guild Hall it’s taking place in (basically a seperate cage/pit/arena for smaller fights)
- Basically the Guild Hall could also function like like a training area (1v1 up to 25v25), but all will take place inside the guild hall: so you can practice attacking/defending/splits/rotations etc;
:-: I would love to get back in to the Observer mode for Ranked matches of top 100 teams, especially GvG!
:-:-:-: Automation :-:-:-:
:-: I agree with what is said earlier in this topic about automation of the buffs/upgrades etc, but they are low on my prio list.
COMPETITIVE GW2 FTW!
Would it be a good idea to put the communities points in a short, clear concise post(s). Something like this:
Key areas:
Desired areas:
The key areas is where you think it will benefit the game and community as a whole. The desired area is what you like to see be added. Having a wall of text – whilst there is nothing wrong with it. Has a good chance of it being skimmed over. You don’t have to include 2 key & desired areas. Just 1 key & 1 desire should be enough.
The idea is to make Chris and the team read the posts with ease, to see what the player base needs, without having to go through walls of texts – and guessing what will be a good idea. They can then spend more time and resources on the areas that the community have heavily suggested via reading the most frequent key and desired areas.
Just a suggestion as to how it can be approached.
It’s a nice and needed topic
I have been updating a list with almost all suggestions ever made about this subject.
Here is a link:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-System-Improvements-Suggestions/first#post3943131
That list holds nearly all suggestions around guilds so also stuff like guild-halls what is maybe not so much Guild Quality of Life and Logistics Management. (or do you also see that sort of things as part of this CDI) However it mostly holds real Quality of Life and Logistics Management suggestions.
Would it be a good idea to put the communities points in a short, clear concise post(s). Something like this:
Key areas:
- Insert key area needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed.- Insert key area 2 needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed.

Sure makes sense…
But collecting as much data as possible and then processing it to a usable format I believe is much better. You want to have the fullest of detail when describing something. We live in an age of BIG DATA, gather as much as you can :-) then narrow down.
Cheers tho
There’s going to be a LOT of stuff to read. If you want what you have to say to stand out and make an impression, making it easy to read is going to be very important.
Make your statement, give your big points, and move on. If they want more details, I’m sure they’ll ask for them.
No worries I am excited to and sorry for the delay.
chris
I think is better this way, people will be in a more collaborative state after seen the feature patch, and of course we understand you are working kitten it so have your hands full right now.
As a GW1 veteran, I’m eager to see if there’s any plans in the works for Guild Halls.
I see many great ideas. Cant wait ^^
I’m definitely ready for a CDI! Thanks Chris!
