Lol, similarly atm I’m playing my Warrior with a 100% up-time resistance and swiftness build.

A lot of gw2 yoda talk but everyones missing the point that im talking about a middle of the road comprimise. Most of the answers here are based on all or nothing. All im saying is that it shouldnt feel like im trying to run through knee deep mud so much. Especially just trying to travel.
Cool i got infracted :}
btw:
@Joltz.8596, I dont see any problem in that, what is exactly your problem, that mobs are agressive and hit you, if something hits u will enter in combat, is that it????
Getting knicked from a salamander drake for 5 points of health trying to run past it shouldnt make me run slow for 10-15 seconds
That’s nothing compared to the 60 Second blindness/slow if you get within 10m of a dust mite.

Why not? A hit is a hit.
(In fact, this is a tactic in WvW against a fast opponent: nip them so they are in combat and can’t get away as easily.)
When I’m running past drakes, I go slightly out of my way and time my dodges so I don’t get hit. They have a big animation and very slow attacks.

But this a condition you can remove right away. Not talking about conditions, talking about plain damage hits BUT, another part of it is even after your condition free it still takes forever to get back to normal speed.

That’s because you are still in combat. Combat doesn’t end until you either kill the enemy, put enough distance between you to break aggro, or the enemy gives up pursuit (they all have a “leash” and will return to their normal position). You can speed up the process by increasing your own movement speed with swiftness, movement skills, or using terrain (jump up/down ledges that they will have to path around).
Just messing around with a few different types of mobs, it seems that they’ll usually chase you for a distance you can travel in about 15 seconds, give or take a couple depending on their speed/casting animations/etc. Combat speed is 1/3 slower than out of combat speed (200 units/sec vs 300 u/s), so that translates to adding around 5 seconds onto your trip by aggroing a mob. Of course this will be longer if it puts any movement impairing conditions on you. The end result is that a 5 minute run would be increased to about 6:40 if you managed to stay in combat for the entire run.
Sure, it takes a bit longer to reach your destination, but this is hardly something I would refer to as “snail speed”. And the situation above is looking at the worst case scenario of 100% in combat time. Unless you’re traveling through some of the most densely populated areas of the game, you will spend far less time being in combat. Even if half of the time is spent slowed by combat, the trip is still under 6 minutes. I think that’s a quite generous estimate of combat time from what I usually see in my playing. And it’s a rather long travel time in general, as you could run all the way across most maps in that time. Your A-to-B travel times are most likely going to be far less than full-map trips due to waypoints.
I just don’t want players to skip everything except special events and so on. If you run through a Den of wolves and can’t manage to dodge the wolves bite, I do not thing that that player can just keep on running to safety. To survive one have to fight their way out. No I do not agree with OP in any way. The in combat speed reduction is fine as it is.
I guess its just an overall feeling of sluggishness in movement for me. Some dont mind it, some do i guess. Maybe i just feel it more comming from different mmo’s in the past. Perhaps a very slight movement speed increase in everything would do the trick. In any case i still enjoy it as is but i think its something that would improve the overall game experience. Purely preference.

I can’t know how others are but I get a little speed blind, if they would increase all movement speed with let’s say 10% I would Maby had noticed it in the beginning but a little while after I would feel that I was sluggish again. I feel it in towns all ready, I have the mastery to run faster in towns and now I still feel I am slow trying to use skills to leap faster and more.

You keep talking about being sluggish in combat — instead rethink it to remember that this game gives you super speed when you exit combat.
The two ideas are mathematically equivalent; neither is any better than the other. However, my ‘world view’ allows me to enjoy the game more while your phrasing seems to lead you to be more frustrated.

Ya running in towns is like perma superspeed hah, i got that perk too. The feeling of sluggishness is something i noticed from when i started playing. A 10% increase i think would be right on.
Joltz, what profession do you main? I would like to potentially suggest tips or tricks, but I need to know that first.

Thanks bud but i know the tips and tricks your thinking of but feel free to post some. I have a ele, warrior and revanent.

Haha, you just so happen to pick the only three professions I don’t play.
Thanks, though. I at least know Herald has unlimited swiftness, blocks OH sword, and the option to zip past aggro’d mobs by targeting those a way in-front.
Warrior should be mobile enough with all their leaps, dashes, and frequent swiftness/blocks.
Elementalist would be the only one I could understand being annoyed over. But they have their ways too with fGS rush, Ride the Lightn., Blink, mistform, speed-boost from air, burning speed, and brief takes of invuln.

Ya my revanent is new just hit 80. Superspeed skill plus the faucets pretty much eliminate all movement impairment issues. Plus watching him go superspeed while crippled is hilarious

I feel it’s necessary to ask, what race are you playing? If your character is as tall as you can make them and you’re playing Norn or Charr, you are going to feel much slower compared to other smaller players, especially in combat.
If this is the case, try playing a tiny Asura. Your actual speed will be the same as a huge Norn, but due to the smaller size of your character you’ll feel like you’re moving significantly faster than larger players.
This is strictly a perception thing and not a mechanics thing, but if you tend to play a lot of really large characters, you’ll find that your characters feel sluggish and snail-like in their running pace…especially in combat.
