I have a few requests about this item.

With the new boosts 50% reward track has been added to The gobbler but it is not useable in pvp lobby. This feels rather bitter considering the pvp track booster is the only reason i started using it.

Secondly, the item has too much of a timegate in between uses. By the time i get the booster i want half of the time on the previous instance has already expired. Can we get a 1s delay or less please?

also they nerfed the amout of boosters you get and instead it gives much more transformations

I rarely use mine.

1) the transformations. I don’t want transformations at all. I want the boosts. If I wanted to transform I would use one of my many tonics I have right now.
2) RNG boosters. Who thought of this? If I’m planing to do something I want a boost for that, not some random boost for another activity.
3) time it takes. You have to stand there and “eat” candy corn, waiting out the cooldown for the next chance to eat candy corn, while hoping to get boosts you want. While you are doing this the timers on the boosters are going down.

What I would prefer. No transformations. No randomness either. What they could do is give a list of boosts and the price for each in number of candy corn. For example, 10 candy corn for a 15 minute speed boost. You select the boost, the gobbler eats that amount of candy corn and then you have your selected boost.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

The amount of candy corn required to get a boost at all is quite high. No way is a permanent boost viable even if it wasnt capped to a few hours. Besides whats the point of getting a boost if you cant use it. by the time the queue finishes your boost will expire and then there is still a match to win.

Remember this was a gemstore item. Its not like we got this for free on a whim. I have never used it past the first day and todays patch. Just because its a complete inconvenience to even do so. We arent asking for the world. Keep the RNG. But atleast fix the way it consumes candy corn.

Wxp seems removed (used 150 candy corn), gotten 30 min speed boost, 20 min regeneration, 25 min of the magic find boost (that now though is better then in past, also works on gathering). The ‘dominant’ boost now seems EXP+PVP reward track exp. 1 hour 27 min (though it seems you only get 5 or 10 min from it rather then the old 15 min. Very bad since it will almost worn off before you get a ‘good amount of time’. Secondly, seeing how they merged everything but removed wxp, best solution would be to add wxp to the ‘+50% exp and pvp track’. Make it 50% exp/pvp exp and wxp. Problem solved.

To be honest I currently see very few use for the cobbler. Sad cause I had stocked up 40 000 candy corn… To use in edge of mist when I could further farm my achievements (aka when I could join SFR in there, rather then fight against them). But nope… To bad.

I just checked it, it doesn’t seem to give (add to) the blue WvW xp icon nor does it stack with it with the new +50 yellow one (for +100). I have over 6 days stocked up with the blue one, so I am not sure if it gives 50% in WvW yellow one only (it does say all game modes though). It seems it is just a change of icon, but I would like it is someone lets me know if the new yellow XP booster works for WvW, just to be sure, thanks.

I’m not 100% sure, but the wxp bonus seems included in the new ‘global exp’ bonus. A wvw guard just gave me 30 wxp, with no outmanned buff or other buff. Isn’t it normally 20 wxp?

UPDATE: WXP boost still exist. just tested it on keep: IT GIVES 1200 wxp, wich concludes the new booster works on wxp, but has no text info about that. Just a text bug thus!

Good for us wvw’ing people. With the boosts stacked, this is actually better imo (even with slighly lower time on the exp boost).

Yeah i’m really disappointed by the gobbler.

The transformations were appearing way too often before.
If now there are even more transformations when using it, i won’t be able to use it anymore. The most boring part is the cooldown between each use. If at least you could double-click a lot of times in a few seconds … but there is an unbelivable cooldown of 3 seconds between each use.

Candy Corn Gobbler @ the wiki Probably not updated yet to reflect the patch.

I know this item was created to get rid of excess candy corn on the market, and I don’t have John Smith’s numbers, but the prices have hovered around the same level for months and months, and I can’t imagine the latest change is going to do a whole lot to help it. The change to durations of the new boosts have made this item even more of a pain in the kitten to use. For those of you that don’t have this item, it randomly either gives you a random boost from a list or transforms you into a halloween creature.

Now the issue with this item isn’t that it turns you into a creature or that it gives the new boosts, it is that it gives the new boosts with a much lower timer than before, so you get the new boost for 7 or 10 minutes and you still have the same cooldown between tries. So if you want to stack up an hour or two of boosts to run around in WvW with the 50% experience bonus, you’re going to be clicking for a lot longer and running into that internal cooldown between each time you’re allowed to try to have the gobbler eat candy corn.

I’m not proposing that it be any cheaper to get the boosts, or that they necessarily up the time of the new boosts on the gobbler, I’m sure they had good reason for the numbers vs. the candy corn cost, but please consider adjusting the ICD between uses or eliminating it altogether so it isn’t such a pain to use. This might also go with the hand health posts that have been popular lately. I think a lot of players that have this item have given up on using it because it is just such a kitten to use.

The xp boosts only last for 7 minutes with the thing. That’s sort of a problem. Sure, boosts now combined, but I can’t use wvw and pvp boosts together, and the leveling xp boost isn’t very useful for level 80s.

According to the their own wiki:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Candy_Corn_Gobbler

It mentions all the boosts it can apply. I may be wrong here, but if they were selling it as only a transformation toy then they choose a kitten poor way to advertise it!

BTW they have not changed their own wiki and it still says it provides karma. Also if they changed anything about this from their original design it behooves them as a company based upon customer service to inform us first and let us exchange it if we are unhappy.

Actually, the description of it doesn’t say primarily designed as a tonic and occasional boosts. What it does say is, “Use this and 3 of your candy corn for a festive Halloween transform or a random boost.”

What they didn’t say at purchase was that you get way more transformations than you do a boost. The blurb doesn’t say that the number of transforms and the chance for a boost are nowhere near equal. In reality, there are way more transforms than there are boosts and they should have said this when they sold it.

This is an item I bought using gems purchased with real money and I and the others here are giving ANet feedback on what we think of this purchase and the change made to it. I have no idea why you feel it’s not a good idea for us to provide this feedback and to prove us wrong in how we feel about our purchase, but I bet ANet wants to hear about whether or not we are pleased with what we bought.

Edit: Changed my mind. It seems rather balanced when I look at it overall.

I reckon the candy corn gobbler should consume 50 candy corn at a time though, and provide a random Halloween transformation AND 30 minute boost to the XP buffs they provide now. That way 2 stacks of candy corn provide 5 hours of bonuses, but require a hell of a lot less clicking.

Pros:

• With boosts being combined, this causes less icon clutter for your screen
• More balanced xp based boosts across the board (good for levelling alts when you kill stuff)

Cons:

• Way less WXP-specific boost duration (I would say many bought the gobbler because it mainly gave WXP boosts over other boosts), so not very good for WvW’ers in this regard.
• Lowered durations for boosts

Overall when I think about it, it’s pretty balanced now I guess. And I do like the fact that there aren’t as many icons taking over my screen. Heck, at times I couldn’t even see how much WXP I had, let alone be able to see if I had run out of food or oils.

I have to say, as someone who purchased the gobbler for WXP back then, I am very happy with the changes.

I stopped using my gobbler when I had all the WvW masteries, since it rarely gave the other interesting boosts (like e.g. EXP for leveling my twinks).

Since yesterday I use the gobbler again. The combined buffs are very nice and since there are less buffs to “roll”, you end up with a quite decent mix of buffs, with decent duration. The new EXP buff seems to be dominant, so it is perfect for anyone who needs to level some low chars, get WXP or simply wants to gain more from PvP reward tracks.

If you really have no use at all for WXP, EXP and PvP reward track progress → think about the masteries in the future!

The only thing that still bothers me about the gobbler is that it has a CD, so it takes ages to eat through your candy. When I read the patch notes, the first thing I hoped was for the CD to be removed…

The changes are a really harsh nerf to people who bought this item for wvw exp. You used to get anywhere between 7-12 hours of wvw boost out of 250 candy corn, now you barely get 2 hours. That’s an 80% nerf, and a little extreme in my eyes.

For other boosters the overall duration per stack of candy corn hasn’t changed as far as i can see. It only yields 7 or 10 minutes per buff, but you get that buff twice as often since different booster have been combined, so the total effect remains approximately the same.

Still crying for that wxp though…

The reason I will wait till my current one runs out is due to the fact it don’t stack with the new buff so it is a waste of time. I have gotten quite good at timing out the 5 seconds timer by now. Although the buff is reduced time, I cannot see this tedious, repetitive, and brain numbing task being much worse anyways; I’ll just watch a few more movies.

I forgot about the WvW exp bonus. Its a shame they dont stack with the other boosters. As for what tommy said, Thats exactly the problem im having. I just dont want to sit there afk pressing a timegated item just for some boosts. I really hope somebody with a means to change it had a look at this.

Heres the way I look at it:

Arenanet:
Hello Sir, would you like to pay for this brand new car? It gets 50 miles to the gallon, and has an all leather interior! Low low cost of 300 gems!

Me:
Oh wow, that sounds way to good to be true.. I suppose for only 300 gems.. Here you go.

Arenanet:
Why thank you! Here is your new car. Enjoy!

Me:
Wow, its amazing, it does everything the guy said it would, for only 300 gems! Awesome!

(Some time later)

Me:
Hmnh.. why did my leather seats turn into fabric overnight?.. Thats stupid.. I mean, I guess the car is still good on gas, still worth it…

(Some more time later)

Me:
What the kitten? Why is my mileage down to 1 mile per gallon?.. What the kitten is going on? and my air conditioner isnt even working anymore >:V!

They sold you one thing, saying it did one thing. It worked one way when you bought it. Now that you have it, they bait-n-switched you. You now have an item that has a crappy ICD, Gives you boosts (maybe) 1 out of 10 times (vs a ~50/50 chance) and seems to be constantly (selectively) having boosts removed from it. I haven’t gotten a Karma boost from it since wintersday released this year, and ive used hundreds of candy corn.

I want my 300 gems back, they keep nerfing this thing every time I try to use it.

I think when they created the thing, they thought of it just as a toy and underestimated its value. When I read the description, I bought one instantly. I realized it was anything but “just a toy”. For several days I would tell my guildmates every few hours that they absolutely had to buy one.

Then it went off the market and people started finding out what they had missed. And because the vast majority of players didn’t have one, instead of drying up the candy corn supply, it created a market for that trickle of candy corn coming from all those home instances with the candy corn node. People that had candy corn nodes, but no gobbler made sure to harvest and sell their candy corn.

But now of course you had a minority of players with a very real XP advantage over everyone else and people started stacking hours of XP bonuses. I think the most I ever got was about 2 to 3 hours worth.

So the choice was to bring it back for everyone and unbalance the whole game, let things stay as they were with a minority enjoying a huge advantage purchased relatively cheaply, or nerf it. They chose to nerf it. I wish they hadn’t, but that’s that.

For it to work as they had intended, they needed to let everyone who wanted one buy one. Then the candy corn supply would dry up fast. Instead it was only available for a short period of time and most people didn’t realize how valuable it was. Also, if they kept it from being account bound, people that have gotten what they want out of the gobbler could sell theirs and let someone else start using up the supply. That’s my two cents.

Well the cost is now to high for me to bother buying candy corn on the TP so I am hoarding it till next summer to sell. My gobbler sits on a junk holding alt along with many other less than useful items. I have two alts and 3 bank tabs full of 250 stacks so the zerging in the Labyrinth and the others that I bought during Halloween should make me a huge profit to those that do still use it. I hardly play now anyways so If and when I decide to come back I may as well have some mad gold for my return.

Sad really, but I guess that means of me getting good XP is now dry.

Edit to add: The gobbler was hurting nobody save the ANet accountants anyways. Hence another reason I don’t like the new direction ANet is going in.

It wasn’t “nerfed”. People that say this have NOT tested it properly, or misunderstand what they see.

The XP boosts were rolled into one. While it’s true, about 50% more candy corn are required to gain the same duration of boost, that new category of XP boost includes everything from killstreak to WvW bonus.

Coming from somebody that has used it extensively (69 level 80s), I understand the BUFF that has been applied to this item. Under the old system, the WvW only xp booster would proc at an insanely higher rate vs the xp only boost. Even more so vs the killstreak only boost.

Now, you get it all under the new single category XP boost for about a 50% increase in candy corn consumption. Heck yes please!

The rate now is 2:1 for the new xp : item booster which is also way better than it was previously for the old xp : magic find boost ratio. As for Karma? It’s almost exactly the same.

Unless its a skin or account upgrade like additional bank slots, you’re always running the risk of having your purchase modified at any time for any reason Anet deems necessary. Plus, history has shown they don’t care about their customers enough to even explain these changes.
