Capes?
No.
This has been stated many times by the devs. Capes are not being looked at because of all the clipping issues with the player models.
The capes I remember from Gw1 were nasty horrid things with terrible physics. I hid them every time I could.
We really don’t need capes when we have other pretty back pieces!

Sure…if you LIKE capes clipping through your character at all times, maybe even projecting out the front. ~shrugs~

i cannot believe theres no love for the capes :o and about 90% of this games backs are horrid :o since when is clipping an excuse ? thats just a design flaw , and its not like its uncommon , any weapon on a back clips like hell
I don’t know what you think, but to me this looks fairly close to a cape…

I really love the idea of adding capes to the game.
Make them look like the banner of ancient elona, if regular capes cause clipping issues. Just add an empty banner which has the representing guild emblem.
This makes a perfect reward for the monthly pvp tournament btw. Winner gets a golden trim 2-8 gets silver and the rest bronze trims
Please think about it anettt

5 years, almost 6 after launch, and well into 2017 and a little over half towards 2018 and there’s no capability for capes/cloaks. Before people start using race character models, coding; I heard it all countless times since gw2 launch.
The whole clipping argument now, still being used is extremely weak and obsolete. It’s like so many people who were and still against mounts, yet what’s coming in PoF?
And even though legendary armor is anatomically more straightfoward to design from head to feet, there’s still all the moving parts of the set. All those “bells and whistles” and no one can still wrap their head around creating racial cloaks. Smh.
Clipping issues have been the least of anyones problems since sets of armor released that even clip itself, yet everyone’s still clinging to it. I never cared about clipping, find an alternative if it bothers you enough. And who ever said any armor or backpiece, cloaks included were a one size fits all? Sylvari can’t even wear orchid racial chest armor without clipping the meow out of every existing backpeice. Try it and see for yourself.
But people complain endlessly about the (butt) capes in GW2! Too many capes already!

Incidentally, when Anet did that poll about the floating/clipping shield, most respondents preferred some level of clipping. I’m all for clipping. Bring on capes. Let armour skins transcend their weight class. Freedom for all to wear whatever and clip whatever they like.
Yup I couldnt care less about the clipping. People that dont like it could just disable them. Sadly it’ll never happen, not in this game anyways.
I’d also love cloaks. everything clips somewhat anyway, heck players clip into one another lol. has that ever been a serious problem? I think they may have to design them to always flow and float backwards and not forward and maybe a little hanging back while stationary but this is all doable. if anything make some gemstone backpiece skin and make it in slightly billowing animation behind the character to avoid some clipping, alot of back pieces are animated or have aura effects anyway. or at least create an outfit that hides your armor with the fully cloaked realism look. something to start with before we try to adapt cloaks as a standard option for all armor sets. there are ways to start and ways to get around it
