Charr Posture???
Ummm…what? Do you understand how mammalian anatomy works?
The hunched posture is necessary for a species that both runs on all fours and bipedally. Their bipedal stance allows them to manipulate tools and everything else, but their skull can’t mount on the neck in two different manners (for bipedal and quadrupedal stances). If you don’t believe me, lower yourself onto all fours and look straight ahead or even up. While moving. You will probably hurt yourself. This is why the charr spine inserts into the skull at the back instead of the bottom like with humans. Because it inserts in this manner, their bipedal stance needs to accommodate it, hence the hunched posture.
If anything, the charr posture makes them much more beastial than any other “beast” race in a game.

Unfortunate for you, your answer is in the post you won’t read further into.

Too much? No. Better immersion? I like that.
You should take a look at the design blogs for the Sylvari. That’s a serious case of designers doing their homework.

Well, realistic physics are actually very well appreciated (and a must imho) in every game..
The story arc doesn’t have to be realistic, but stuff like gravity/posture/… certainly does..

Something is really wrong with charr’s posture.. like it doaesn’t have back muscles t all!!
It irritates the very core of my being, just by looking at that “poor me” stance charr has.
However, I noticed that it can look pretty awesome when standing straight, for example when taking aim with gun. This would be awesome default stance for charr.
COME ON! I rolled a BEAT, race that is winning wars! Not SKIRT OR RAT!!!!

What? Guild Wars has the best beast race of any MMO out there because its just not a furry human body with an animal head.

Well said.
I like the charr just the way they are. Sadly there will always be those players that just want a human model covered in fur, with a tail, and cat ears. Meh.

Sure. let’s ask the animators and modelers who spent years on their work to alter it just for you.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
What OP is asking for is the usual upright beast races with the females having breasts and wearing a bikini top, even if they are reptiles.
“too much realism is not needed in games… "
lol. How about no realism at all? How is that better.
ANet may give it to you.
Well, my charr are not supposed to run on all fours.
They are supposed to look like this:

Proud and tall.
Not like flame legion mindless hunched beasts.

Only the flame legion Casters adopted the upright stance. to make them self’s seem superior to the rest of the Charr.

Any serious game will have as much realism as possible. Just because it’s fake doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be believable. The only point at which it becomes “too much” is when the work required to make it happen is too much.
oh for crying out loud, for all those people talking about Charr posture and what was and wasn’t in GW1, may i introduce you to Pyre:

LMAO! why does a lizard have mammal breast??
Old time video game convention. If you are a playable beast race you need to have an essentially human model with fur/claws/scales and a beast head on top. The females must have breasts. Guild Wars 2 is different, perhaps unique, in breaking with this convention.
WoW: female Pandaren and female and male Tauren.

Wouldn’t have been totally different, but the designers of female charr insisted that if they had breasts at all, they would have 6.
Funnily enough, the armor designers didn’t like that idea :P

I definitely prefer the charr the way they are. Judging from there overall posture, they would have evolved from pack hunting mammalian quadrupeds. It also seems evident to myself that the skull connects to the spinal column from behind (like mammalian predators) as opposed to connecting from below, as seen in hominids.

I think maybe some people just have a lower threshold for how “beasty” they want their character to be. (Like ArcheAge, where I find their beast races to be weee too close to Uncanny Valley for me, because they’re too fur-on-human-body. >_>)

It’s that long neck, especially on the males, with the head thrust forward and down. It’s a chiropractor’s happy dream.
What Real Life™ mammal most resembles a charr, in terms of movement and posture? I’m gonna go with gorilla for the posture, anyway. That galumphing run is more or less cat-like, I guess. How is a gorilla’s head attached to its spine? /e google
Hmm.
Totally read that as the world’s oldest profession… not posture…

On a diagonal. Still a number of differences, though. For one, they are primarily herbivorous, so the necessity of streamlining for hunting speed isn’t there. Charr are pure predators and as such can’t afford to be a bit clumsy.
It is, in fact, canonical that Charr are capable of running much faster than any of the other races in Tyria. In Ghosts of Ascalon, Ember Doomforge actually told the Asura they were with to ride on her back to distract the ghosts (the ghosts were attracted to the item the Asura was trying to activate) because she alone could out-run them.
But, you don’t get speed without streamlining. Having the spine insert in the skull from the back means no loss of vision without sacrificing speed. The position for both is identical.

What you were trying to say was that something in the Charr posture doesn’t appeal to YOU. Since that is only a subjective opinion, I will answer with my own: Charr look kitten the way they are, and I love how original and fun and temible is to see a pack of armored predators charging against their foes in all fours. Its GREAT.
Also, I think their design is far more interesting, well planned and believable than any other “furry” MMO race out there.
Do you want a more human standing beast? Play Norn and leave our Legions alone.

I like posts I’m seeing about the Charr in this thread.
Charr are probably the most beast-like species I’ve seen out of any of the mmo games. In fact gw2 does a lot of good in regards to their beast races, tengu, hylek, grawl and skritt.
I’d like to play more Charr characters but the clipping and armor model stretching kills me…
LMAO! why does a lizard have mammal breast??
Fun fact :
Kraits also have mammal breasts. The male have nipples, the females (witches) have breasts. So, yeah, there’s snakes with boobs in gw2…
That being said, I like Charrs the way they are, and I’m glad they actually look like a beast race, and not just like humans covered in fur with an animal head. :p
So you mean like charr is not standing like a human?
I hope you don’t walk slouching like a Charr, or you’ll probably get some health problems (and you’ll look very, very weird). :p
Edit : Nevermind, I thought you were responding to me !
Char posture? Just give me a humanoid cat person and make it canon by saying it’s the product of a char and human walking through an asura gate that went awry.
Backwards feet would be no more.

Didn’t know, or never noticed. either way its a very dumb idea.
Look look… My point was obvious….
The charrs stand like they can’t handle their backs up straight. Do you even lift Rhytlock?
Their posture is poor like in Undead(WoW) but with charr model instead. So I have to play with, like furry monster that can’t stand straight because his/her head is too heavy or? o.O
Seriously, WHY Kodans are not walking like bears then or halfly up?
Come on! You can do better ANET… Put them UP STRAIGHT and you did something good with them for once.
I feel like shriveled when playing my Charrior…. Im dead serious -.-
The problem is, many of the races are too short.
We Charr have to lean down in order to cut your human heads off.

Just NO, that posture.. Its like legs up, spine is back and head is forward.. like old grandma.. just NO!
PLEASE ANET I BEG YOU FIX THIS MADNESS T____T
You know, I’ve always wondered if people who make threads asking for something that has zero chance of getting into game are serious or if they are just venting, because this has zero chance of getting into game.
The Charr look how ANet wants them to look (Obviously, since ANet is the one who designed the Charr). ANet isn’t going to redesign the way they look based on one thread or a multitude of threads. They like the way the Charr look and have no intentions of changing it.
A person can vent all they want but if it’s not what ANet wants then it will remain only venting.
ANet may give it to you.

well from my understanding the Kodan are closer related to the Norn then to bears so that is why they walk upright.
Kodan have that wacky neck thing going on, too, though. Just not as bad as the charr.
I want my kitty to stand upright.
I stopped there. This is Guild Wars 2, not Goat Simulator.

Thank you for understanding.
If you didnt even bother to read more than the first sentence, why even respond? Why not just shut the kitten up instead?
I like the charrs’ posture. It’s fresh, it’s something unique and a little bit more realistic. Why would you even play a beast race if a generic human figure with a furry head is what you really want?
You should pay TESO a visit. Khajiit and Argonians look just as generic and boring as you want charr to be.

You have the right to your opinion ofc. but don’t think that will change anything.
What you see as a grandma back, most people see as a beastial posture, not weak but strong. Fact is many people love them the way they are (me included) and so does Anet or they would not have made them this way.
So sorry, you either have to live with how charr look, hunched and all, or play another race, because charr is probably not going to change.
Look look… My point was obvious….

They don’t stand up straight because it’s uncomfortable for them, just like looking straight ahead is uncomfortable for you when you’re on all 4’s.
Tell you what, when you don’t find facing straight up while standing for an hour uncomfortable, then you can mock Charr for their hunched posture.
From Guild Wars 1.
That is all.
