It just baffles me that people are actualy making backpieces that cost 100g+

Here’s a cheap one that costs you 0g

1x Prototype Fractal Capacitor (1350 fractal relics)
1x Gift of ascencion (500 fractal relics)
40x crystals or 240 philosophers stones (24 skill points)
1x Vail of condensed mist essence (pretty common drop in FotM)

In some situations yes. And yet they are not “needed” for anything other than higher levels of the Dungeon.

Or WvW. Or any content coming after the current batch. Because the devs in their infinite wisdom decided that better stats are a marvelous idea! After all, gw1 completely failed because of a lack of numeric progression, and surely there is nothing they would ever do to repeat their mistakes…

I think you are forgetting that time equals money. The above Ascended piece you are proposing takes a very large amount of time to make. I’ve pointed this out before and I’ll point it out again.

Fractal Lvl 1-10 = 355 Fractal Relics (Time to complete is 7.5-22.5 hours depending on group experience.)
Fractal Lvl 11-20 = 400 Fractal Relics (Time to complete is 7.5-22.5 hours depending on group experience.)
Fractal Lvl 20+ = 27 FR per Odd Run and 54 FR per Even run. (Time is infinite…)

So, in roughly 15-45 hours (Use 30 hours for an average group.) you have gained 755 Fractal Relics out of the 1850 Fractal Relics you need. That means you need to complete 27 Fractal Cycles at Lvl 20+ in order to purchase the Capacitor and the Gift. To complete 27 Fractal Cycles ranges from 20.25 hours to 60.75 hours so well average that at 30 hours to keep it even. So, to get your back piece you only have to grind FOTM for roughly 60 hours… On the bright side if you do FOTM for 60 hours then you increase the probability of your RNG Ascended ring dropping. =)

The minimal stat increase does not justify getting it if you are not enjoying fractals.
The only reason why anyone should get it is to run high level fractals.

Now, if this game had open world pvp (Anet please!!! i want to PK annoying kids) then i would say the minimal stats are important.

wvw does not need ascended, hell i went in there at lvl 35 in masterworks and did just fine.

And for time wasted, i get better farm in fractals then i get outside

So, i make money and spend nothing

Have you done the math? If you even bother with all 3 available pieces, all you get is a 1% increase in total stats for your characters entire stat pool. It’s so small, you don’t need to bother unless you plan on running Fractals.

The cost vs benefit makes bothering to get Ascended gear pretty pointless aside from the agony resistance, which only matters in the fractals. I got the Koss on Koss, don’t think it was worth it, and all my other accessories are still rare. Honestly, the stats aren’t worth any of the costs, so don’t bother unless you really want to run Fractals.

Welcome to GW2. Over night got more grind then WoW from the game that supposedly has no grind.

Which back-piece do you get from the one above?

It depends on the Capacitor used.

Thanks martrim, im saving up for this backpeice right now... I wont need it for ages so i dont mind it takes awhile to get, also its meant to be harder to getthan exotics so im happy with it

The Fractal Capacitor (exotic, 1350 fractal relics) u use determens the stats your ascended back piece will have

Also note that the Crystals give u an offencive upgrade slot and the philosopher stones a defencive upgrade slot

Other than that the recepie stays the same for ea back piece

if i do not have any crafting experience (no crafting levels, at all), then how do i craft these things? or does just putting it in the forge produce it, guaranteed?

i chose tailoring and armor smith, but have never crafted anything to level them up, leaving me at level 0 for both professions.

I think it’s great to have options.

It does seem true that if a character’s done enough runs to get it the cheap way, the player may have enough wealth already to do it the faster/more expensive way.

And the tiny increment from exotic… meh just play to have fun.
More ascended stuff is coming.

How is that even remotely good advice? All I see is Grind, Grind, and Grind Fractals. Welcome to Fractal Wars 2, located in Tyrias Arch.

Just run once a day chest it makes life a lot easier for getting these. It may take a week or 2 but you do not have to spend all day doing one thing. If you just want to get to level 2 you can do it that way just takes more time but a lot less per day to do over all if you want it to go faster just get to level 10 (this is well worth it too because you can get rings for free on top of getting the back) and this will over all cut down the time you need to spend to get the free back items.

The thing is you seem to only think of the now and never what is to come if the game was going to be like this forever and never changes your view is right but things will changes and become less about fractals. Truth is your way of thinking is dieing off as time goes on because it will make a person self destroy or case them to changes there own view points.
