Choose a side: Cantha or Elona?

This will probably end up consumed into the big Canthan thread. Regardless…
I’d probably go to Elona first; It’s geomatrically closer to what we currently have (the gate to the Crystal Desert is even right there already at Ebonhawke), and makes more sense from both a technical and lore viewpoint.
For Canthan, we’d have to pass through Bubbles – and it’d be a shame for ANet to pass-up the opportunity to do some full-on water zones and a water-based boss fight with Bubbles, but ANet definetly need more time to fleshout and revamp the underwater combat system. Don’t get me wrong, I like it as it is, at least the base design, but it has very limiting options and iffy balance and could do with much expansion and retweaking before it’s employed in full force for a dragon showdown.
Then continuing from the lore point of view again; On the other side of Kralkatorrik we have Palawa Joko and his army of undead. While Joko is a villainous character, he is the lord of Elona and the orders avoid getting involved in simple politics (and at this point, any Elonian-lead fight against Joko would basically be a rebellion), and would make for a strong ally to aid in the fight against the dragons, and Kralkatorrik would certainly struggle more against a two-pronged attack from both sides. Also, whatever is left of the Order of Sunspears in Elona would make for strong combat companions – afterall, the Sunspears are prooven god-killers – you could use that kind of power and experience against the dragons.
Futhermore, due to Cantha’s xenophobia, the Tyrian Orders would be very unlikely to find an ally in Cantha (considering their ranks are made up of all different species), and it’s actually more likely that they could find an ally in Joko, and it makes sense for the Pact to collect allies against the dragons first, to ensure greater resources for future victories against other dragons, before collecting further enemies.

hey mate, this is not specifically about Cantha, but just a discussion about all the areas of of the elder dragons. You could also argue that Southern Orr or the North Shiverpeaks are more important over Elona/Cantha:)
But I don’t know. What would Sun Tzu do in this situation?

That is an interesting point. Introduce the Sunspears, introduce Spears and Polearm weapons in the game! I like that.
If the Crystal Desert will be a massive open desert do you think they would do some worm-mount riding system like Nightfall had?
Guild Wars Nightfall was an amazing game, because it really honored Arabian and North African folklore and mythology. I haven’t seen that respectful representation of the middle east outside of something like Prince of Persia. It was so refreshing to see a game having inspiration from that part of the world without the “terrorist” sthick we see in games like Call of Duty!:)
i stil think the dragons we now get are stil a warm up for the big boss and i dunno who that is ??
becouse Zaitan was lieutenant elder Dragon maby Moremoth is maby also lieutenant ??
and if you no that rank its not rely high
so i think sooner ore later we much face something much bigger and much more terror what we now get

Was Zhaitan a lieutenant?
I thought Liutenants was those smaller dragons like Glint, Shattere, Tequal and Claw of Jormag?
Just from the Title: Elona.

What are you smoking and where can I get some. The elder dragons are THE big bosses. There are 6 and Zhaitan and Mordremoth are each the top tier bosses you could find.

Close but they are actually called Dragon Champions. Similar concept really just a higher power with a different title.

Both therms are used to refer to the same thing, “Champion” and “Lieutenant”.
Zhaitan was a “big boss” not not a lieutenant of anything, so that idea can be discarded.
I would love to see Elona more than Cantha, with Elon river dammed the Crystal Desert must look way better now.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

2 years and we still have only dealt with one. If there’s a bigger boss, we’ll probably end up tackling it before taking down every other dragons because I doubt that Anet won’t have given up GW2 to create GW3 by the time we kill 5 more dragons.
On just an introductory note, once Mordremoth is out of the way, I feel that Jormag needs to be tackled, with regards to ‘looming threat’ factor.
Alas in regards to the topic; Cantha, most definitely. Krait are constantly being pushed out of the oceans which is threat enough, although thankfully the Karka have settled on Southsun for the time being.
Going to Cantha would definitely lead us to having to tackle the Deep Sea Dragon, and not only this we’d be able to have more light shed on the nature of the Largos. I feel that FFXIV A Realm Reborn really tackled the idea of an oceanic battle very well. Nicely executed.
Kralkatorrik seems to be preoccupied with Palawa Joko around the Crystal Desert area as far as we know, this can wait (as much as I would love to visit Augury Rock and The Amnoon Oasis again).
It’s a tough decision, but yes I’d have to say Cantha. Even though I love both options near equally. Besides, we could use Canthan allies.

Since the Zephyrites followed Glint and Glint is dead (GW novel – Destiny’s Edge). I think eventually we will have to go to the Crystal Desert.
I’ve never explored either, so let’s go to Cantha!
The DSD appeals to me a little more than Kralkatorrik (and with it, the hope for improved underwater combat and aquabreather skins and all the rest), but Elona appeals to me far more than Cantha.
I’d vote for Elona over Cantha right now.

Cantha IF we get even more crowded, overpopulated slum city of Kaineng. Most atmospheric in Factions imho, something I’ve not expected or seen in an MMO.
Otherwise, Elona. Palawa Joko, Kralkatorrik and all other things, together with nice possible story and diverse environment could be great.

Cantha will not happen until ALL the Dragons are defeated. The Emperor went Isolationist after Orr arose from the ocean.
I think a lot of people would end up disappointed with an “under water” expansion.
Why not above Water? Kryta, Elona and Cantha are all connected via coastlines, so why not do like Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag / Zelda The Wind Waker, and make player controlled ships?
Not only would it be easy to create a massive open world sea, full of optional under water combat, but you could also easily add new islands through the living story. Plus, having your own private ship could be the alternative to regular mounts!
My fear with Elona is that the sand theme and the deserts will become a too repetitive theme. Not only that, but having to deal with the undead army in that region, might be hitting too close to what we fought in GW2 already with Zhaitan being the “undead” dragon.
Would it make more sense if they added parts of Cantha and parts of Elona in one single expansion? Vigil goes to Elona, Order of Wispers go to Cantha, and Durmond Priory goes to the northern Shiverpeaks?
If they are going to branch the storyline, will they keep the 3-way system? I suspect the personal story of all the races became too much for them to do.

Cantha is not connected to Elona or Kryta as this map shows – http://zoom.it/TWLx#full or this link is better http://ectos.darkbb.com/t3340-maps-of-tyria-then-gw1-now-gw2
Cantha is cut off from the rest of Tyria and as such we probably won’t be going there if all in GW2. Maybe in GW3….
Hands up who wants to fight more krait?
Nobody?
I’d say Elona, and somehow I feel that the dragons are not the uber head boss.

Considering the game is focused around the elder dragons…I have no idea how you could think this….
I thought that because of the eternal alchemy video. Since the dragon’s are in a cycle and all but mordremoth were awake, I feel that something else is controlling the strings. I may be very wrong, but that’s how it felt. I don’t think it was Mordremoth controlling Scarlet or the other sylvari dude.

They are all or mostly dead. Kind of like the dwarves……

We can rebuild them. We have the technology.
