Honestly, I don’t care if I see commander. To me it’s just someone who decided to buy a permanent spot on the map rather than a Jormag’s Breath. It’s nothing significant, really.

Although it is helpful if I’m showing people a PvE farm and we’re full. I’m still able to guide him and see where he is on the map even if he isn’t in my party. It’s very useful.

What I’m shocked most about though, is people complaining because of it.

In PvE, I think it is more important for the audience to decide whether he wants to see a commander mark, then the commander wants to show his pin. So, they should add an option “Show commander mark on map in PvE” for everyone. As simple as that. All problems solved.

Also legendary weapons and T3 armors have the unique purpose to show off. Wouldn’t it be absurd if someone come out asking a player not to use a legendary weapon because “it’s just to show off”?
I think your problem is just a certain degree of jelousy. You are probably bothered by a title you aren’t able to get. I can’t give myself any other explaination why otherwise a small icon on the world-map would hurt you that much.
The only reason to get upset with a commander is when they lead in a very bad way in WvW, or when they assume an arrogant attitude, not when they are in PvE without hurting anyone…

It’s not jealousy so much as annoyance at a misunderstanding caused by that icon. The icon signifies that the commander is knowledgable in WvW and is given special abilities to lead their side to victory.

But that isn’t the case, is it? Right now I could buy the commander title. I have the gold on hand to do so. Know how many times I’ve set foot in WvW? 3. That’s it. And for no more than 4 hours each time. The only reasons I don’t purchase it are because a) It’s not the top of my do-want list. B )If I got it I know that folks would follow me in WvW and I would contribute to our server losing ground, since I have no idea wtf I’m doing in there.

Commander title needs to be changed to something pve oriented, since that is what it is an achievement for. A new, WvW earned title should replace it.

Wearing the commander tag in PVE is ridiculous.
Also a lot of commanders have no clue about WvWvW. They just spent 100g on a title. And last time I checked WvWvW doesn’t really provide a lot of gold.

I’m still waiting for the “red” commander tag bought with honor badges. I would much prefer to follow this guy.

Also OP what did you expect wearing commander tag in open world PVE ( LA is fine since it’s the main social hub) ? That people would immediately think “oh hey, he’s just directing his guildies”.

Lol waypoints, pois, etc can be linked to chat. That is the way that people use to find each other in PVE.

So if your question is “why people either don’t care or think I’m kitten because I wear my commander tag in PVE”, the answer is “because you wear a commander tag in PVE”.

Play your game how you see fit bro. Don’t even let trolls or impatient people get you down.

I’ve generally only seen them waiting around in LA, and a few running map-completion, DE & karma farming zergs in terms of commanders in PvE. Also two instances of them not actually doing anything (afk I guess) but their icons on. Never really thought much of it TBH, but its nice their helping people out – and I can see having an actual icon as making things easier for groups over party size. I’d imagine it would be nice to have an option to show the icon only to one’s squad though.

People abusing the position is obviously not a good thing though.

But since wub-wub is basically PvE with enemy players in the dynamic events, I’d think there’s enough overlap that the PvErs are contributing to their own buffs.

The icon only gets annoying on minimap if I`ve marked a personal waypoint & that covers it, can live with it though

Next time someone kittenes to you, tell them they should be thanking you, your guild or whoever paid as it`s us WvWers that give the PvErs all those free buffs they`re making use of

… What buffs are these exactly?

If you open your WvW palette you can see what buffs your server has gained from WvW, and how many points until the next buff.
