Normally, I’m against commanders in PvE. Most of the time they’re useless, and only serve to attract a zerg around themselves. (I am firmly anti-zerg, but at least the obnoxious icon on the map lets me steer clear of them). But I recognize that the Vine event, Triple Trouble, Tequatl, and maybe a few more things can benefit from coordinated efforts.

The OP believes it is common sense to use third party sources before playing certain content. I also saw posted that by now everyone should be expected to know what to do. This is bull. Each and every day, people will stumble across something that is new to them and join up. They aren’t going to know what to do, and they aren’t going to log out and read up on it. Who hasn’t seen posts that claim only a very small number of people actually visit the forums? And yet you think everyone uses WIKI or Dulfy? Get real.

THIS is what commanders are for. If you’re gonna fly the icon, then open up your mouth and talk. Don’t complain because we can’t read your mind. And nobody give’s a Dolyak’s backside whether or not you have a blue taco over your head anyway. If you see that something needs to be done, then tell us. Don’t wait until it’s over and complain. Speak now, or forever hold your peace.

TL;DR – The OP’s problem is with COMMANDERS, not the community of players. You need LEADERS, because most people are followers.

Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm all day.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Can we report those " tl;dr followers" who do not listen to such basic commands/advices such as:

  • - Respawn at Waypoint if you’re dead, because you’re upscaling event
  • - Stop AoE at Red(Husk), Offshots and Poison Bubbles heal him upon death
  • - Destroy Pustules in Middle(Vinewrath 2nd Champion) or we’ll fail
  • - Protect Carriers from mobs and Siege Ammunition or fail
  • - If you’re Beekeeper’s target then run to Honeycomb to fill it with Insect Swarm
  • - Destroy Bubbles when Teragriff is near it or fail
  • - Don’t CC Thrasher in Blue Oasis or fail

etc,

Those tl;dr Followers are so kind and never do as they’re told.
Yesterday some dude tried to justify such behavior as
- They’re not reading Map chat.

Sure, but when event fails, then they sure rage & flame on it.

Like I said.

IQ Test upon entering Silverwastes.
IQ Test is the way.

Did I ever tell you, the definition, of Insanity?

Pretty sure people with high IQs can be just as obstinate and rebellious as people with low IQs. Also having a high IQ doesn’t prevent you from being a troll.

I think you misunderstand players that just do not want to play the way you want.

Keep in mind, the players in the OP’s example screamed, “Why didn’t you tell us?!” after the event failed.

May I ask this question?

Where to you think the players who knew what to do originally learned? Yes, through experience and research.

It doesn’t strike anyone as a tad hypocritical for those players to scream what they did, but demand others look up, learn, and lead them into success? Because they couldn’t or wouldn’t be bothered to do the same for themselves?

Please think about what you guys are saying.

In the OP’s example people asked why didnt you tell us AFTER the supposedly knowdgeable people complained that people werent doing what was desired of them. The people who didnt know the encounter were doing exactly what everyone had to do at first, learn through trial and error. The people complaining that the newer to the encounter players werent doing as desired were the ones coming closest to hypocrisy because they were expecting of the new players something that the experienced players didnt have to do (couldnt really) at first.

Again, if you want someone to do X, you might want to tell them so.

On the subject of players lying there while dead, I wonder how many do this because it’s what those other MMO’s train players to do?

Not just other MMOs. In most GW2 content where there are plenty of other players around a player can expect a rezz when his character is downed/dead.
