Copper-Fed Salvage o-Matic - Basic
Should have been master quality, plus no cost, I mean 3c seriously, why bother?
Plenty of dumb players will buy this thou…
Dumb?
I use basic kits on salvageable stacks as well as white-named items other than leather and cloth. Does that make me dumb?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they added a “Silver-Fed…” and a “Gold-Fed…” where the silver one uses ~60 copper per use and is a rare kit while the gold one uses ~50 silver per use and is a black lion kit. (the names would make more since if you had to pay upfront, for 25 uses at a time)
There’s no way for you to define the worth of something for someone else. You’re paying for the convenience of freeing up 1-15 slots of your inventory.
Some people think infinite use resource gathering tools are a complete waste of money, others don’t. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it? The goal is to create convenience items that people will buy if it suits them, but not to create items that people feel obligated to buy. Infinite use master quality salvaging for 3c would be OP and people would feel obligated to buy it.
It’s a waste of money to use an expensive salvage kit for anything that isn’t a rare or better anyway. The mats you get aren’t worth the price of the kit.
Please keep in mind that you players salvage a lot more than you they gather.
Well it does save you 0.52c per use. If you salvage 50 items a day on average with a basic kit then it will only take you 18 years to recover the price of the gems.
In ~800 hours of play I’ve salvaged ~6,000 items. Some of those items were stacks of profitably salvageable TP items.
At current gem/gold transfer rates (~32g for 800 gems), that comes out to ~615k uses for this to pay for itself purely based on salvaging alone. Personally, the convenience of a few extra slots saved by only taking 1 slot vs. ~6 that I usually use just isn’t worth it. To each his own though.

I was going to do some similar math, but yes, the conclusion is obvious: IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

^^ This its well worth it tbh
they should at least eliminate the fee, or make it of master quality

It’s not for everyone. If you don’t like it, you’re not forced to buy it so I don’t understand why everybody is crying.
The kit definitely does not save money…it’s more of a convenience thing. Just like how some people buy golem bankers that last for 2 weeks. For some, the kit addresses a daily hassle that most of us go through at some point. ‘Oh dang, I need to go to town to buy more kits’ or ‘Hey guys, I know we’re only on 2nd boss, but I ran out of kits and now I’m out of space…need to go to LA for a sec’ or the classic ‘WHY IS _______ NOT DEFENDING THE KEEP?!’ —> ‘Oh, he says he’s sorry. He ran out of kits and had to go buy more at merchant real quick’
If the kit is worth it to you, buy it. If it isn’t, don’t buy it. Maybe they will come out with other versions down the road and if that is what you are looking for, then buy it. Otherwise, just keep running to the merchant every day to buy kits. There’s nothing wrong with that. You’re free to do what you like. Nobody is forcing you to do anything you don’t want to.

If that’s the case then portable merchants are more useful than the salvage o matic.
You can not only buy salvage kits from them but sell your junk too.
At least it is account bound instead of soulbound like the harvesting tools. I’m uncertain if I will buy one but that might push me in that direction. I posted this in another thread on the topic, but if it disabled the confirmation box when salvaging greens I’d be sold on it just for that.
Can you imagine the QQ on the forums if the infinite use items were cost effective?
Fact is, they are convenience items. Personally, I don’t see this one as being as useful as the gathering tools, so I probably won’t get one. The tools on the other hand have saved me a ton of hassle (swapping out mithril for oricalcum tools depending on the node I’m about to tap, remembering to stock up on tools before I head out, switching to copper if I’m hitting low level nodes for the daily, etc.).
If you are approaching this with a cost/benefit analysis you will not find them worthwhile. However they are designed to improve quality of life and should be looked at from that perspective.
Strange thing indeed this is……
I guess the only people who might like something like this would be those who farm Queensdale all day, and even then it would only be for conveniance. I certainly would not buy this, if it was the Tier 2 salvage quality kit I def would as I use those kits for white items.
Meh, I buy fine salvage kits with karma for basic salvaging. Free, as I don’t count low amount karma as money, and I keep 2 on each character. It’s unlikely I’m going to do more than 50 salvaging a day on a regular gameplay day.
Emmmmm weird . . . it should be master for the cost of the item . . . not good enough to me.
Everyone doesn’t use Mystic salvage kits?
Dragonbrand
I do an EXTREME amount of salvaging per day, so, it is very cost affective for me to use this new item over buying many stacks to carry around, although, I agree with many of the replies that it should be zero cost per use like the pick, axe and sickle or at the VERY LEAST of better quality.

I really want to buy this actually. I always use crude kits for normal salvagework, so it would be an ‘upgrade’ for me. And per 25 uses you save 0,5 copper (every salvage with basic kit costs 3,5 copper) it might sound just stupid, but that does the trick for me :p
Frees up some inventory space and is one less thing to be mindful of, so hey, worth it to me from that perspective.
Simply put, I’d buy if it was master quality. I bought a full set of unlimited gathering tools mostly for the convenience, however if they had been iron quality (the equivalent of a basic salvage kit) I wouldn’t have bought them. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to an unlimited salvage kit
It doesn’t really seem worth it when it’s weaker than Basic Kit. ;/
I bought it saves up inventory space and restock time.
At first I couldn’t believe the nerve to even bring this into the game. That disbelief is blown out of the water though, by the faulty justifications people come up with for buying it. Take out a calculator. It simply isn’t worth it in any possible playstyle.
You could even vendor every item you would have salvaged, and have more money than if you bought this, and use no inventory slots to hold salvage kits.
Come on, people. Our buying power is all that we have to shape the future of this game. Don’t cast it aside when something shiny comes along.
I would purchase this Salvage Kit if I knew that was of Master Quality and that I got one for each character.
Can anyone confirm if you get one for each character?

It’s account bound so you can use it on each character.

It doesn’t have the 10% rarer chance and 20% recover upgrade. It has 0% and says so if you read it.
Keep in mind for some the novelty of the sound effects will be an appealing factor as well. For me I think it would get on my nerves even with the 10-15s cool down. I still may get one though just for the connivence and the fact that is account bound.

That is an error in the description on the gem store interface.

;/ I often wonder how they manage to pull off mistakes like these.
I don’t know about this one. I saw it for sale last night and didn’t even bother investigating it. I’ve bought the harvesters without a second thought but I’m not sure here. Maybe its having to pay to use it even though I would own it, as small as that amount is.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Asking for this item to be more powerful is asking for GW2 to being 1 step closer to being buy to win! ANet did the right thing here. They could have EASILY made more moeny by making it stronger, but they didn’t and I commend them for it. Nice job ANet, just keep ignoring ill-thought out comments such as ones you’ll find here.

- Has there ever been something you’ve really wanted, but discovered afterwards that it isn’t what you thought it would be?
It is not worth it, another gold sink plus it costs gems, i can’t believe people think this is worth it..
I personally didn’t buy the unlimited salvaging tools because they were soul bound on 1 character, kind of defeating the purpose when you have 12 characters. One having all the tools to farm nodes at ease while the others still have to worry about having the appropriate salvaging tool for the area, something I’m not complaining about but I understand why it’s considered a convenience item by those who have 1-2 main characters on their accounts.
The fact that those tools were soul bound on 1 character is a drawback, it’s like being offered a free gingerbread house . You either live in the house or you eat it to survive hunger. You get a free house, but the drawback to the deal is that you have to choose between living in it and eating it.
Same concept here, you get an unlimited tool to salvage nodes but it’s only for 1 character. The Copper-Fed Salvage O-Matic is account bound, so ArenaNet probably heard your suggestions and made it so, account bound. But where is the drawback?
Where?
It’s salvages are of basic quality. That’s good. Giving you 10% chance of rarer materials and 20% chance of recovering upgrades. It’s unlimited and costs cheaper than using regular basic salvage kits. I don’t know the exact numbers, but you’ll be making your coin back from those 800 gems in 21 years if you salvage 500 items a day. The unlimited salvaging tools were that absurd too, but it’s still cheaper and it’s account bound.
A Master’s Salvage Kit has the same chance of rarer materials AND the same chance of recovering upgrades as a Mystic Salvage Kit which is 25% chance of rarer materials and 80% chance of recovering upgrades. Mystic Salvage Kits require 1 of Master’s, Journeyman’s, and Fine + 3 mystic forge stones to craft for 250 uses.
So why should the Copper-Fed Salvage O-Matic be Master’s? That would conflict with the sale of mystic forge stones in the gemstore. If you really want a kit that has a large amount/unlimited uses, why not buy 3 mystic forge stones (which you can get from daily achievements AND certain boss chests) and craft one?
Here is how I salvage my items:
Salvageable trophies – White gear = Basic salvage kit
Fine – Masterwork = Vendor
Rare = Mystic salvage kit
Exotic that are cheap in the TP/have upgrades I want = Black Lion salvage kit
With a Mystic kit you’ll be saving more coin instead of using a regular Master’s kit AND it has 250 uses. You used to get +5 a pop from achievement chests, you should have enough.
TL;DR – No, keep it the way it is and use up the mystic forge stones in the bank if you need 25% rarer materials and 80% upgrade recovery.
The unlimited salvage kit save time. For players that salvage to make money(like me) it will pay for itself in 2weeks. So it is useful to few not useful to most. Just another luxury item like the sickle or axe. If you have alot of money or salvage to make money buy it, otherwise it is not worthwhile.

I think this is a great quality of life item in the store, similar to the unlimited use tools. For normal salvages through blue quality I use basic anyway so no problem there. It will take hundreds of thousands of salvages to make up your investment, but it’s really not about money; it’s about convenience and not having to manage inventory for these items. Once they get the tools back in the store I will be a very happy player.
I thanked ANET for this little gem(pun intended) in another thread on this that I started at around 3AM MST and since it technically cost me 0$ converting IGG to gems I’m a happy camper even if it SHOULD HAVE BEEN treated the same way the gathering tools were since you had to buy from a merchant more of these tools as they ran out just like salvage kits. That’s what I don’t understand about how the everlasting salvage kits are being treated. Can we say double standards and it be constructive criticism. I quit trying to understand some ANETs game implementations, there should be one person that goes over all these different dev teams implementations so that there aren’t any of these OBVIOUS discrepancies in production.

When you buy stacks from the post to salvage for a profit, you save a lot of clicking. Instead of having to click on a new kit every couple of seconds, you can just keep going. It’s just a bonus that you’re saving half a copper each salvage.
Most players already know it won’t pay itself off for a while, but neither will the unlimited gathering items. The convenience is the real draw.
It’s not for everyone. If you don’t like it, you’re not forced to buy it so I don’t understand why everybody is crying.
- Has there ever been something you’ve really wanted, but discovered afterwards that it isn’t what you thought it would be?
You just summarized The Crying Game.
Also, an increase in quality is in order. They won’t bring it to Master, as that would position it in competition with Mystic kits, but Journeyman would be nice.
If it were journeyman quality and charged you a copper fee appropriate for a journeyman kit it would actually be worthless; I do not know of any item in the game worth salvaging with a journeyman kit.
A masters quality kit with the appropriate fee would be useful, but not nearly as useful as this kit; I find and salvage many more white items than rares.
Given the whole spectrum of these kits, I’d buy the crude/basic version and the master version; beyond pulling very expensive sigils or runes with a black lion kit I do not know of any reason to ever use any other kit.
It’s all part of Anet’s plan to raise the price of copper.
^Lolololol
Seriously though… of all the things to complain about…
Dont’ buy it then, it’d be broken as hell Pay2Win if it was Master-Tier
