Nope. But that has nothing to do with Guild Wars 2. I quit playing the “Standard” MMO about nearly 5 years ago, with SWTOR pulling me in for a brief moment because I thought it was actually going to be different, but it ended up being a year 2006 Standard MMO -.-

Rift has a rifts and dynamic content of a sort.
SWOTR has solid character stories.
The Secret World has interesting quests that break the mold.
Tera has dodging and skill combat.

But none of these games has all of these things, and most only have one. GW2 seems to have them all.

So … it would be difficult to go back. I really don’t see myself doing so at this point.

Yes I can and will go back to wow. Gw2 has some nice aspects, but it’s lacking in some serious areas. WvW, Spvp, and Dungeon are huge zerg fest due to the removal of the Holy Trinity. I enjoy tanking and healing and I don’t mean gimmick tanking and healing. Gw2’s graphics are top notch, but there is a lot more to being a good game besides having nice graphics.

Classic MMOs are basically slavery camps where companies create more rocks for addicted people to mine continuously, while giving them the feeling that they’re doing something useful/epic/with a goal.
“You want to be a winner but have no skills? Here, grab your pick and mine your statistical advantage over others so you can be a hero too!”.

I just wish those people realized what they fell into.

If wow adopted the GW2 system of spvp id be there in a heartbeat. I hate the gear grind, but I like playing support. When I heard that GW2 had ditched the trinity, I didt think they meant nerfing support. I’ve been trying different buils for weeks and every one is dps with support tacked on. I respect Anet and don’t think they should change the game to please me, but I’m probably not going to play much longer. I play multiplayer so I can support my allies, and if that isn’t the core of my experience, I lose interest rapidly.

The traditional mmo has become stale for me. UO hooked me on this genre back in ‘98 and I spent 5 years there until I couldn’t take the trammel changes. Ive played the line up through the years, but nothing got me to stick as long(other than WoW’ but even there I would get bored and take long breaks). the genre has really been in a lull for years now with everyone trying to mimic WoW and ride blizzards coat tails instead of take a risk to move things forward..

Gw2 has been the first mmo To really spark my interest again because it Does not feel like the same old game in a new location and different Pixels. The last time I enjoyed PvP/WvWvW this much was when I played DAoC on a PvP server.

I hope that what anet has done will encourage others to take more risks and not play it so safe. I’ve already done the traditional road and I’m ready to see something else.

No, I haven’t played any MMO’s in a long time. I fear in a month or so I won’t be playing any at all. Give this game another month and we’ll see people’s answers than, once majority have completely all the tasks and than there is nothing really left to do but PvP

Hmmm.

Hmmmmmm.

Pvp centered game…. I wonder what people will say once all the ‘pve’ players have gone back to their respective games?

if anything grieves me the most about mmo’s are the pay to win kinds, heavy on micro transactions and not giving you an inch of free stuff when they release new content. I don’t believe an MMO should be played in any particular way just fair to the gaming community overall.

I would find it very hard to go back and actually enjoy a cookie cutter mmo ever again. That being said there are some things that these mmo’s do better purly because the system is so tried and true that they know what works well.

GW2 I play with the mindset that it was an invention and a big gamble they are still waiting to see if this gamble has paid of for them and we are most likely reading our valid criticisms and considering options for an expansion or content update, while I cannot speak for everyone I find the game enjoyable and not paying a sub kind of makes up for the fact that there appears to be an insane repeating trend zerg rush wins and dungeons being seriously lame in terms of strats required.

I understand the concept they are going with is fairly unique and for that I’m glad I hope the stuff I have been reading is worked on at a later date but all in all this game is worth the $ I paid and its living up to my main expectation which was to simply not be cookie cutter and try something innovative.

I still play LOTRO, I don’t mind MMO. I said I would try Rift after 2 or 3 expansions because I felt it was really light on for content during beta.

I agree with comments made earlier on that I have more affinity for sandbox mmos where as a player you have a lot more impact in the game. While GW2 is fun, nothing you do matters or has any lasting impact.

I think the future of MMOs will be sandbox MMOs. As it is people will be looking to Anet already to come out with more content. The beauty of sandbox MMOs is that players often make the content.

WvW is fun but after a certain point just getting reset all the time will make it feel like a bit of a pointless grind.

I’m having a real hard time with the no tanks/heals deal with GW2, I miss being a tank :/ I have not played WoW in 8 months but i think i will be going back to play a tank again but i hate the mop xpac /sigh

See this is my biggest issue with this game is the instances, I’m from Aus and i get rubber banding while dodging ( I’m not a lone with this ) and it just makes doing any kind of Exp mode instance not worth my time. As for WoW at least being a tank i can tank more then 1 hit from a mob in a instance.

My thoughts are that I really Love this game apart form one thing. And that´s the lack of healing/tanking specific classes. I love the idea otherwise with the whole non standard quest and grind thingy. I´ve really enjoyed the world events so far but I have my doubts when it comes to instances since there are no healing/tanking class.
I haven´t played a instance yet but i doubt it will be as fun as it could be due to the lack of role specific classes.

Probably not. GW2 has done so many revolutionary things. I really only miss a couple of things…

1) DPS rotations while soloing. In GW2 you get so much damage from autoattack you barely do any more damage (and often times less damage) by using your other weapon skills. I miss weaving between skills to do higher damage. It’s much more interesting than standing there watching autoattack and sometimes dodging or using a defensive skill.

2) Casting while stationary. In most regards I don’t miss this as it’s really much more convenient to cast on the move, but I do very much miss the risk/reward factor that immobile casting presented. Cast-time spells were always much stronger than instant spells and it actually created interesting risk/reward choiced. Do I stand here and finish my spell or do I run while casting weaker spells on the move? It added a little something into pre-planning where you stand, how you start a fight, etc.

I don’t want to but i’d probably be playing some WoW this month, GW2 was awesome until lvl80 but after it’s really a lackluster, DEs are great when you’re leveling but they get old and repetitive after a while, the PvP is good but i expected more from what people say about GW being so pvp centered, the WvW is really impressive, but SPVP is not really fun, i mean i like BGs but there’s really only one mode of it and imo the less fun of them (AB), I also dislike the way you have to join it like a FPS game. But it was the dungeons that disappointed me the most, they’re simply horrible, people there are just trying their best to bug out bosses and make it as quick and painless as possible because there’s just no challenge or complexity to them, it’s just graveyard zerging or 5 minutes shooting a boss from a distance, outrageously bad mechanics, I’ve yet to meet somebody that actually enjoins the PVE in this game.

No I cant.
Best points:
Not gear based
No ridiculous WoW raids style
Not FARM to OP gears, just “skin” (I know theres people how love to be better than other, but not with skills, just with a higher stat. lol Sorry but its just horrible, and make no sense at all, for sure you need to get a life and see how impossible is to get closer to a non life player in another mmo.)
Combat action with some old style touch, better than pure action.

And the better: Not force you to have a tanker, priest or DMG dealer.
I like to play the way I want, with freedom. I could NEVER get back to a system that says me what role I MUST fill and just that.

Edit: Sorry, I could!! Just one, “Emil Chronicle” so underated lol
Was awesome, tons of pets to catch, even spirit cat pets with fruits names and japanese traditional cloths. lolz You personal flying house, with garden and everything you could build yourself using specific classes like miners, gardener, etc
And the most awesome class I ever seen in a Mmo “stalker”, like a bloodsucker tanker with dark magic using a awesome spear. lolz Omg.. emil chronicle <3 It’s dead anyway =/ Only stand still in japan and indonesia…kittenyou aeria games for not let nexon/gravity come with Emil Chronicle to ocident……………..

Yes there is farm and grind for gear and alot. You can also get better gear and stats then other people and you are vastly superior in WvW if you are 80 and have exotic armor, it just not happen in spvp which is probably the less fun part of the game.

I love GW2 and intend to play it often, but not in a very serious way. It’s a very fun game for me in the way that it encourages and rewards exploration. I do adore leveling and enjoy the leveling system so far.

I am, however, going to still be playing WoW. I have no problem playing both at the same time and enjoy different aspects of them. I greatly enjoy the structured PvE content of the traditional MMO model but love the heavy exploration focus of GW2.

I see no reason why one can’t like both models. The only thing I really miss in WoW over GW2 is the dodge roll! I spent tonight’s raid trying to dodge roll out of bad stuff on the floor.

Let me explain, we have like weeks of game out right? Compared with another mmos I do not think GW2 have grind at all so for sure it’s not A LOT lol, there’s another games that I need like a weeks and weeks if not a month or more just to get the armor I NEED to be “something” compared with others, to be the one of the"best", MONTHS and months and months.
From what I know they use different ways to put the status within the “rare” armors but not OP stats, like in other games where a “rare” armors can DESTROY a normal one with a few hits.

I think one does tend to adjust to whatever a game has to offer. After playing Champions Online for a solid period, I thought I couldn’t go back to a game that didn’t have a blocking mechanic, but I got into EQ2 shortly after that. You’ll just “ghost” dodging/blocking for a while till you get used to the downgrade

But yeah, so many great QOL innovations in this game, it’s fantastic. It’s evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but it’s soooo well made.

No. I personally could not go back to tipical Mmo-s.

BUT : I also loved some other non tradicional mmo-s Exspecially the tipical RPG syle games.
And even if i would not play a tradicional mmo, it does not mean that the game cant be bad. Or needs changes or upgrades.

Take an example like : Body blocking. Or even better Physical engines, that clearly show weapon hit impacts more realistic. Or Injuries, burn effects.
More classes, and chances to costumize your class to the way you like it.

(i personally dont like Necromancer, though it supposed to be my favorite. I want a more classical implementation.) And as long as things like this exist there are players who are unhappy Or not 100% satisfied. And there is a chance players might say this is not an improvement.

I can’t go back. Not even if those other MMOs dropped their sub-fees. Before launch, I was playing RaiderZ and was having a hell of a time! I figured “THIS is the game I’m going to play ALONGSIDE Guild Wars 2!” but I haven’t logged back into Raiderz since GW2 launch. Haven’t even had the urge to. I love what ANet created and I fell in love with the lore in GW1. So much so that the stories in GW2 really pull me in and make me care about my character. So it’s either that, or go back to elitists, grinding, damage meters (puke), and sub fees.

Off-Topic (kinda): The weirdest thing I’ve been seeing in games today is people wanting to literally change a game into something else in it’s genre. An example is Battlefield 3 and many wanting it to be like Bad Company. While Bad Company was awesome, people just don’t know how to accept a game for what it is, and what the Developer intended. Same with GW2, I see many people requesting things in the “Suggestions” thread that would essentially convert GW2 into World of Warcraft or SWTOR. Play the game that the developer intended you to play. If you don’t like it (other than fixable bugs and balances) then it’s not the game for you.

This is exactly what I found. I had already become tired of WOW and was playing SWTOR after the first BWE I cancelled my subs. I tried Tera and stopped before my free time ran out, same with The Secret World. I played the MOP Beta and hated it. I even went back to City of Heroes for a whole week. I can never go back to other MMOs. I have WoW still subscribed, but I only ever log on these days to keep in touch with friends, even with MoP on the way. Soon, once I can convince some friends to get an actual instant messenger program, I may be saving 15 dollars a month from then on.

GW2 is fun for me to play. I don’t feel stressed when I play it, or have the desire to constantly grind out new gear/faction/whatever. At level 80, the world is my oyster and I just do whatever I please for my entertainment. I could play Kegbrawl all day, and even though it doesn’t offer much in tangible rewards it is just fun to play. That’s what is most important to me: how fun the game is to play.

The idea that an MMO needs to have a gear progression system to be fun is a trap. It’s just an illusion that gets people thinking they are being productive with their time, like a job or commitment; in reality they are simply playing a video game. I don’t find those games enjoyable, because it’s not fun I’m feeling when I’m grinding for a new piece of gear. I feel desire and satisfaction, but never fun. And the gear climb just seems so pointless; in the end, the final raid of the expansion’s gear will have the best stats but no reason to use them once you have it (unless you love raiding over and over again for no other rewards). And in the next expansion it’ll be replaced by quested gear halfway towards the new level cap anyways.

Maybe my outlook on what is fun in an MMO is biased. My first MMO was Ultima Online, and the game didn’t have much of a gear progression. It had a bit of a skill grind, but once I was passed that the rest of the game was very enjoyable. I explored, PvPed, roleplayed, attempted to fight dragons with a warrior template of skills (it’s almost impossible without cross-healing with someone else). I only started playing it during Renaissance, but it is still the best MMO experience I ever had. I thought the game went downhill after Age of Shadow (the game became a bit of a gear hunt at that point).

Point is, gear climbs never impressed me in traditional MMOs. They may enthrall me, but once I snap out of it I realize just how unpleasant the experience has been.

As the title says, I was doing CM with some friends, and we started discussing how odd it would feel to go back to a standard MMO like Everquest, WoW and Rift, where you can’t dodge and evade the enemies attacks.

Where you have to go to the bank or a vendor, when your bags are full.

Where there’s no rewards for helping other people.

Where you can’t change your whole playstyle instantly.

Well there’s alot more stuff Guild Wars does excellent compared to other mmos, lots off small things and features I now take for granted.
I know, I can’t enjoy another “standard” MMO anymore, and whether you really like Guild Wars 2 or not, the time in Guild Wars 2 is gonna leave a mark. So, could you go back to a “standard” MMO after GW2?

Hope you understand the question, and sorry for my english. -.-

Are you kidding? GW2 is a little over 2 weeks old and already people are level capping and finding that there is absolutely nothing to do in this game.

People are already leaving for their old MMOs, my entire guild included. We are heading back to WoW for Mists of Pandaria in 10 days.

GW2 was a fun ride, but its not a serious long term MMO.

1) Meeting another player in the same area is a nuisance to me, rather than a welcome sight

GW2 has no competition between MMOs that meet these criteria.
Plus there’s much more awesome stuff in GW2 that will keep me playing this, instead of other games.

You get what you pay for in life, and GW2 being free certainly shows. When you are level 80 and there is nothing to do in PvE, and the broken SPVP system putting friends on other teams then other friends due to auto balancing, and WvW queue times being outrageous..

Yeah.. I will take the sub fee gladly. I pay for quality, and I get that with WoW, and others get that from other games. So dont act as if this Fail Wars 2 is some kind of revolution, when it really isnt.

I’m wondering where are people getting the idea that “there’s nothing to do in GW2”. What more is there in other MMOs? Grinding for better gear, so that you can grind for even better gear, so that you can grind… People still find that enjoyable? Getting better stats just for the sake of getting better stats?

I enjoyed it the first time, which was about 7 years ago. But doing the same repetitive, boring tasks every day just can’t entertain me forever.

GW2 killed my enjoyment of traditional MMOs over 2 years ago. I made the mistake of doing too much research into the development of GW2 and I couldn’t even bare to login to WoW anymore. I then was able to find no enjoyment from Rift or SWTOR. I spent the last 2 years playing games like Civ5 and LoL because no other MMO would do it for me. Now that GW2 is actually out… I will never think about playing an “Old generation” MMO again.

I could never play MMO, where:
1) Meeting another player in the same area is a nuisance to me, rather than a welcome sight
2) You have to pay monthly fee

These two I can agree on.
Monthly fees especially. I simply can’t see myself paying monthly again. That concept might have worked in the past when I played UO and with WoW in 2005, but not anymore.

Yeah… played WoW for 6 years from the day of launch. You clearly weren’t there at launch. GW2 has far more at launch than WoW did and I was paying a sub from the start. That subscription fee didn’t do a thing to add more content that what GW2 currently has. Also… I have already spent more money in the cash shop than I had spent in 5 months of subscription fees in WoW. So yeah, Anet is making plenty of money to keep this game updated and working smoothly.

Also, don’t be such a condescending kitten and call people cheap or poor just because they don’t agree with subscription fees. Your ignorance is clearly far greater than anyone’s level of cheapness or poverty.

What’s so non-standard about GW2? I could easily play any game that’s quality made and well thought through/realized.

If you take GW2 as an example of the best game we’ve ever played: count me out. It’s not even in the top 15.

GW2 is the best MMO I have ever played. Obviously this is all subject to personal opinion. What you people need to realize who keep jumping in praise threads and trying to down the opinions of GW2 is that everyone wants something different out of an MMO and GW2 IS revolutionary to many of us. If you don’t agree, that is fine, but stop acting like your opinion is the only one.

I agree with Razamis, I doubt they will be able to produce enough content along the path to keep the power players satisfied, they have limited staff since they are not subscription based, with a subscription they could add 10 more dev 10 more of everything and dish out content everyweek if needed, people want stuff and getting more of that stuff is better, the best is getting more and more of the stuff in as little time as possible.

That’s just dandy. That’s why we have opinions.

Razamis.1062:

Not a matter of being cheap or poor. Also not a matter of “everyone else”, don’t know why you fancy bringing that up.

Razamis.1062:

You get what you pay for in life.

That’s an extremly naive point of view. You do not always get what you pay for.
Anyone with some life experience should know this.

I’ll act as I see fit when it comes to my opinion, this should be quite clear to you.
