Hey guys. Just hit 80 this weekend on my thief. I’ve read a lot on " is ascended worth it". But I would like to get an updated response on this. My initial plans were to craft a few ascended pieces of zerker, to make grinding my pvp gear easier. And I’ve already crafted my pants. So my question is, is the stat difference still only 5% better than exotic? I was told it was buffed to a higher stat increase then 5%. And if the new HoT gear comes out, will exotic gear be enough to efficiently run the dungeons for it?

I’m not sure if they are increasing the difference between ascended and exotics. I’ve heard they are but also heard they were going to do it and then change their minds and not seen sources for either statement.

But I can answer the second question: there is no new gear coming in HoT. There will be new skins (including legendary armor) but ascended will still be the top tier, with legendary equal to it, and exotic will still be the one below. Exotic/ascended gear from HoT will have the same stats as exotic/ascended from the main game.

The increase to ascended stats was listed in the patch notes that were released early to certain people for the LA patch. The change was cancelled. The only way ascended will be increased now is through infusions, which was actually the original plan.

There was a big todo a couple months ago when it was rumored/datamined/leaked/whatever that a bump from 5% to 10% was maybe possibly in the works.
Whether it was considered and discarded or the storm of fecal matter hitting the rotary implement convinced them it would be colossally stupid, we’ll never know.
But they did come out and state it was staying at 5%.

Whether its worth it is up to you. I’m personally waiting for HoT, going to see if Legendary would be better to work towards for the swappable stats.
(assuming they get swappable stats, which they absolutely shouldn’t given the promise that legendary would forever be cosmetic only, but meh)

Go for it now – legy armor is bound to be pain in the kitten to make. Stats can be changed rather cheaply.

Half the legys aren’t worth their salt in skins. Example – Bolt vs Infinite Light, Juggernaut vs Mjolnir, Dawn vs Volcanus

Do you mean WvW gear by chance? There is no PvP gear in GW2 per se.

In my opinion, your time would be better spent working straight on that WvW gear rather than make a zerk ascended set to grind to make yet another separate set for WvW, if you are mainly a WvW player. Zerker gear in WvW is a risky choice.

Well, I mean, if you plan on playing this game for the next couple of years, there’s no reason not to craft Ascended. The stat increase is minimal, but it’s still a goal to work toward in this game. With the added benefit of potentially being able to do high level fractals.

Does he need it? Not at all. But if he has the time and money, by all means get Ascended.

Well, since I’m one piece away from having a full Ascended set (only need the boots), I’m going to keep working on Ascended.

I wanna sparkly ninja outfit and a legendary trenchcoat for the engineers for legendary medium. It should all be really cool yet say I’m mature for my age. Legendary dies that contain two colors (either slowly alternating or a pattern weave) would be cool too.

Ascended works great if you are a Alt-aholic. Now that Revenant will make the 3rd profession to wear heavy. Ascended heavy armor is the way to go for me. Same for weapons. All three heavies use a shield, mace, sword and hammer. So I make those ascended also.

Here’s a quick set of questions to ask yourself about whether to craft ascended in the first place:

• Do you do fractals above level 30 or 40?
• Do you spend more than 50% of your time in WvW? (Or GvG)
• Do you have a ton of extra mats and/or coin?

If the answer is “no” to all of those, I recommend holding off. Refine your ascended mats so you have them when you might need (or sell).

If the answer is “yes” to all, then go ahead; it’s a worth while investment of time, money, and effort.

I would keep crafting all your time gated materials at the very least. Then once you decide you’ll be ready to get it done quicker.

I’ll second this, and say to hold off on the rest of it. Gather supplies and do the time gated parts, but don’t make any final parts yet.

It’s true that Ascended will still be the tops for stats, but that doesn’t mean that HoT won’t come out with some other use for the supplies that you might find more interesting.
