Ever since the patch all I read now in guild chat, on the forums, map chat, and in dungeon groups is people talking about DR bug and how they are not getting any loot. It’s getting annoying actually, mainly because the real reason is for some reason ANET stealth nerfed loot drops. Apparently they do not want people to play this game anymore.

Really its brilliant, actually. If I was a self proclaimed company of gamers run by gamers, I would want my time freed up for Elderscrolls Online Beta also. So really no surprise on my part. What gamer is not getting so pumped up for this upcoming release? What else can explain how ANET continuously drops the ball and disappoints their players? I say grats and thanks you for making my decision to switch games a no brainer.

Keep in mind this is coming from a player that has logged 2000+ hours of GW2 and despite all the disappointments still considers GW2 the best game I’ve ever played. Just mind blown by how ANET continually makes ridiculous decisions.

I have DR bug, and now even the few places where I USED to get loot are dropping nothing but blues or worse.

I mean it. Not. One. Thing. Over. Blue. in 3 hours of play last night.

My whole point is there is no such thing as DR bug. For some reason that I can only speculate on, ANET stealth nerfed loot drops and I say stealth because it was not in the patch notes but its obviously and clearly happening to EVERYONE except those few who are getting the lucky side of RNG.

But there is a DR bug (or perhaps a “consistent RNG bug”), becuase the people who get the lucky side of RNG have been, according to my observations, getting the lucky side of RNG CONSISTENLTY since the 11/15 patch

And no matter how many times you run with them, it’s always the same for each account – the “have lucks” get every loot amazing every time for months, the “have none” have stopped waypointing to dragons because it’s too expensive.

This is statistically impossible, which means there’s a bug.

I would not be taking the time to make this post if it was a few isolated incidents of “unlucky” people. If you took the time to read and more importantly COMPREHEND what I wrote, I’m seeing these complaints EVERYWHERE from MANY MANY MANY people. There comes a point where its no longer unlucky DR. Ok, let’s put it another way:

Do you have quantifiable evidence that there was a stealth nerf? And by quantifiable, I mean numbers of people who have poor drops against people who haven’t, as well as numbers of drops compared to before where you perceived the nerf, and not people complaining because they’ve suddenly hit a patch of bad luck.

Otherwise we’re talking about anecdotal evidence.

Again, I would not be wasting my time if I was not hearing this everywhere. Definitely hear it the most in fractals. I personally have 4 alts that can do lvl 20+ so for the last few weeks I’ve been doing 4 lvl 20 daily’s a day and a 30. Before the patch was I getting minimum 2 rares from the chests and 2-3 rares from maw chest including cores/lodestones. Since the patch I’ve done multiple lvl 20 dailys a day and am lucky to get one rare on the whole run. I don’t think I’ve gotten a single core from the maw chest and again have had many with NO rares at all. There is no way for three weeks I was getting insanely lucky then all of a sudden a patch comes and my luck runs out. Every I talk to is saying the same thing about fractals since the patch.

The only reason I question is because I’ve found it to be the other way.

I haven’t seen a drop in Rares than before the latest patch. I’m getting guaranteed rares in Dungeons, and more frequent BoH and Masterwork+ drops in WvW. I run 0 MF.

The open world players have been dealing with this for over 3 months now. How do you think we feel?
Dungeon runners have had it 100X better than us. You have simply had your rewards brought in line with ours so it was a needed adjustment since they would never increase open world loot drops.

I repeat, of course a self proclaimed company of gamers run by gamers will want their time freed up for elder scrolls beta. Who on the GW2 development team has not spent hours and hours and hours playing Skyrim? I’m sure its zero to none. It’s a great game. No one would be able to create a game such as GW2 without immersing themselves in Skyrim at some point in their lives. It’s simply not possible. So I really can’t get angry as a gamer myself. I going to just have to file it away in the sad but true category. Wether or not they realize its happening, perhaps its on a sub-subconscious level – GW2 developers are pushing their player base away in preparation for ESMMO. What else can explain the absolutely horrid decisions this company makes? Anyone? Anyone?

It’s definitely a stealth nerf and I just love these people who continue to push the fantasy that it’s luck or RNG, there’s nothing absolutely random about their or any other system it is always +- manipulated by Anet. Since Nov’s first reports this problem has gotten worse and worse and it’s not going to go away until the players that remain become as outraged about this as we all were about the “combo field” daily.

The players that remain would rather rant on these forums than actually play the game. It’s gotten that bad. It’s sad really to see such a great game dwindle down to nothing because of a horrid development team.

Even with the LFG site, fractals (which was one thing holding A LOT of people in this game) has become virtually unplayable. In their attempt to make them better and more playable they did the exact opposite. No one is willing to deal with pug groups that do not belong at high levels and the obvious loot nerf has turned the remaining people away. So sad.

I will post on the official thread as well – but here is a copy of my post on the guild forum:-

Since the latest patch my loot issues (hardly seem to get any!) have just got worse.

Since the 28/29th January patch I have played on several characters for many hours at different times of the day and night. Farmed on my level 80, Levelled my Necromancer 5 levels, completed the dailies and even started a new character to try and test things – levelling to 12. Hell I have even tried playing on a different server to see if it makes any difference.
In all that time I haven’t had a single mini chest drop – that’s no green, yellow or orange items of any kind at all – on any character. My new character hasn’t had a single item of any loot to use – either weapon or clothing of any type (white, blue etc)
This is about 20 hours of gameplay – all of sudden my bags never need emptying – even part of one of the dailies the daily to kill 5 veterans yielded absolutely no loot of any kind, grey items, cash or anything.

I have put a ticket in to Anet but no response as yet – there seem to be others posting on the GW2 forums but no official response and its clear that many players don’t seem to have a problem

anyway – rant over :-)

Does anyone else in the guild have a similar problem to me?

This has now completely sapped my interest in the game for now :-(

It isn’t DR that’s bugged, it’s the loot system. It needs tuning to provide the necessary reward beyond the gameplay itself. It’s been bugged long enough that it is obviously by design. The loot system is designed not to provide a sense of reward for play. It may have something to do with the way the game is monetized. It’s only speculation, but D3 had the exact same sense of reward and the same monetization scheme. It may be that they can’t make a profit and provide players with a sense of reward.

Many people are not familiar with how RNG functions in a loot system and so make comments like this one. A loot system is anything but random; it would be more appropriately denoted as a rules-based system that uses RNG to spread results over a player base. The loot system is tuned to provide the loot experience everyone sees in-game and the devs know, or should know, what the common experience around loot is. The problem with the loot system as it is is that it is currently tuned like a lottery. A lottery will have daily winners, but the common player loses. And, if he just plays the lottery more, the odds of his winning don’t change. That’s why financial advisers don’t advise people to just buy more lottery tickets to improve their chance of winning. The answer, of course, is to tune the loot system so that the common player experiences a sense of reward for playing the game. That sense of reward is not there yet and you will continue to see threads on the subject because it’s impossible not to notice that it’s not there.

Other than adjustments to Orr rewards (as covered in the release notes) the only change made in this patch to over-all loot was allowing high level characters who are playing in lower level zones the opportunity to earn top level gear to provide greater rewards. (as also covered in the release notes)

There are no “stealth nerfs”, any changes will be covered directly in the release notes, of which there are none.

No, it is random, and what you said, is just plain stupidity trying not to sound stupid. Sorry, but that is literally the least offensive way I could think to put it.

You have a random number generator on the server, which isn’t really random, and actually continually and consistently cycles through numbers at a pace too fast for a human to possibly time even if they could observe it. When you kill something or open a chest, it has a set of loot tables, it picks a loot table for you based on the current number. Then when you pick up that loot, it ‘rolls’ again, from items on that table. The amount of items place in the market is ‘controlled’ by putting items on a loot table with a number that appears in the sequence less often. But because of the human element, it is random.

To back up this story i just made 3 times Shelter/Peni events and i got 3 rares in total so i got a rare every event and i have 0 MF and on top of that i got tons of moldy bags (like 15 for each event) which granted me a good chunk of mats.

As someone who is running with 0 MF since the start i can tell that there wasn’t any loot change at all that i notice.

If there is a problem with loot its probably related to MF not to general drop at all.

You (and some of your friends, the same ones) get porous bones by the stack and a couple of blues.

They (and some of their friends, the same ones) get an exotic, 4 lodestones, and 4 ectos worth of rares in the same time.

And no matter how many times you run with them, it’s always the same for each account – the “have lucks” get every loot amazing every time for months, the “have none” have stopped waypointing to dragons because it’s too expensive.

This is statistically impossible, which means there’s a bug.

I haven’t seen this at all. Yesterday, I played for three hours and I got two exotics and three rares. Two days before that, I played for five hours and didn’t get a single rare, almost no drops at all in fact. And the day before that I got two rares in only an hour and a half.

You do know what the R in RNG stands for right? Being random it has the potential to consistently give you nothing, consistently give you a ton, or anywhere in-between.

No, it is random, and what you said, is just plain stupidity trying not to sound stupid. Sorry, but that is literally the least offensive way I could think to put it.

You have a random number generator on the server, which continually cycle through numbers. When you kill something or open a chest, it has a set of loot tables, it picks a loot table for you based on the current number. Then when you pick up that loot, it rolls again, from items on that table. The amount of items place in the market is ‘controlled’ controlled by making certain loot tables number appear less in the number sequence.

Like I said it is rule-based and uses RNG to spread results. If this were not the case they wouldn’t be able to adjust it to provide more or less reward. But, in fact, we know they can adjust or tune it at their whim. If you don’t understand how loot systems work, it’s best not to comment on the subject.

The DR issue is new to me, having just recently started hard farming. I noticed on my first day in Cursed Shore I was able to farm for several hours before I felt my loot impacted. The subsequent days I can only really farm for 30 minutes to an hour before the drops dry up. Even then I have yet to have a good day like my first, it seems the more time I spend in Orr farming the worse the loot gets. So I’m not sure if this is just the way the system is intended to work , or if there’s something at play behind the scenes. In either case it is pretty frustrating to have a stop-gap placed on my farming yields, its not something I’m used to and I find the " It’s to stop botting " a poor excuse for impacting players as directly as this system seems to.

I just explained to you how it works, and your explanation made no bloody sense. Who here doesn’t know what they’re talking about? It is random, because of the human element, in any instance where a single person is getting a single drop, what he will get cannot be calculated for. Just because odds can be calculated, doesn’t mean the selection within those odds isn’t random. Your odds of winning the lottery can be calculated, however the winner is still random, because the human making the numbers and the human selecting the numbers is under no system wherein his action may be calculated for.

Sadly I think you are wasting your breath Colin. They are going to continue whining incessantly about this mysterious ‘stealth nerf’ no matter how many times you tell them directly that nothing was changed. Thanks for trying though. It’s much appreciated.

Thing is, you don’t come right out and admit a stealth nerf do you? There is a reason why they are done in stealth after all….

Ok, so no stealth nerfs, no dr bugs, then why havent you then just closed the sticky thread on preceived loot drops? Why did you then say you are gathering the data and developing a process for it, when you already have a ways and means of telling? Something doesnt make sense here

To be fair, I never heard Anet say there was no DR bug, only that there were no intentional nerfs to loot tables. There might still be a bug somewhere (though thankkitten it has never affected me)

I think it would be helpful if the release notes gave a better explanation sometimes.
“The game client was updated for maintenance purposes only, no content changes were made” isn’t really an explanation. What kind of “maintenance”? Did you have to change the oil? Rotate the tires? Add support for a monthly achievement? Smack Orr with a nerf bat? We have no idea.

Joe: “Man it’s cold out here!”
Bob: “It’s not cold, you just think it’s cold.”
Joe: “But it feels cold.”
Bob:“That’s just what you perceive…it’s not cold”
Joe:“What?”
Bob:“Do you have a thermometer?
Joe:”Well no, you have all the thermometers."
Bob:“Yeah it’s not cold”
Joe:“But there’s frost on the ground and the air is dry.”
Bob:“Those are just perceptions…it’s not cold”
Joe:“But it’s winter”
Bob: “Not in Australia”
Joe:“What?”
Bob:“Like I said…it’s not cold”

Or replace “cold” with "meteorite " and “thermometer” with “space peanut”

Can anybody from Anet explain why killing 5 champions 10 mints each =50 mints
20 vetrans 3 mints each=60 mints.
that is almost 2Hr of game play with no drops and only getting trophy bones from trash mob.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Unfortunately, we all know you are told to say this. As much as I like hearing the response though, maybe sometimes you should just leave us hanging because everyone and their mother can see the difference in loot drops. Not even from this last patch but the trend since before Christmas.

Well there is 100% a DR bug going around. You can read my post about it on the bug forums. I haven’t been able to get xp or rewards for days now on my characters. Changing zones etc does nothing I still get about 50xp per event if I’m lucky.
