Even my new characters aren’t even getting any loot at this point. Spend more than 15 minutes wandering around the starter zone and doing hearts, events, etc Definitely not ‘farming’ and I’m getting nothing, not even greys now.

Never saw one of these new chests.

Getting really tired of this uphill battle to get things that other characters take for granted. I’d love an answer, even if it’s “go play some other game”.

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

I have to say I agree wholeheartedly on this issue, but up until today I thought it was just me. I’ve been having an HUGE issue with diminishing returns lately. Due to needing to farm for two sets of Apothecary armor, help my boyfriend farm for HIS set of Apothecary Armor, and needing even more karka shell for my Ele’s new staff, I need a TON of Karka shell, and so have been trying to farm my little tush off for a week or two now. Before this patch, I farmed for about an hour and left with something like 16 shells, while my boyfriend, who was with me, left with 8 and nothing else except trash. I also got quite a few Potent Bloods and even 3-4 Powerful Bloods, which he got none of.
Today, I attempted the same thing. I farmed for half an hour with %142 MF and received for total drops:

19 Spiral Shells
8 Chunk of Crab Meat
4 Karka Shell
4 Potent Blood
1 Cleric’s Cabalist Goves of Balthazar (green, with a minor rune of Balthazar)

That is literally it. I know I killed at least 50-75 Karka (because I got my full 25 stack of MF in about 10 mins), with only 4 shells to show for it, and practically crap for other rewards. I also noticed that one or so Karka on my little killing circle are in a different area upriver where it doesn’t rain. Curious about them, I compared drops on it to the others. Unsurprisingly, after killing young karka in the other rainy area for 15-20 mins, I start getting fewer and fewer drops. But, consistantly, those Young Karka that spawn near the Reefriders upriver, nearly ALWAYS drop something once I hit a wall with the others. It was when I realized this that I really noticed that, not only is there a diminishing returns ceiling there, there is a really LOW ceiling, and that trying to farm my shells was essentially useless.

I realize hitting a diminishing returns cap is a way to diminish botting, but at 9s+ PER SHELL, it isn’t feasible for me to buy 390+ Karka shell from the Trading Post. (For the people who don’t want to do math, that adds up to 39g JUST IN SHELLS, not counting other mats like Globs of Ectoplasm) When you hit a wall where you CANNOT farm materials, the only thing it does is cause prices for items like this to go up in price, further exacerbating the issue of people not being able to afford them, and others taking advantage of the problem to price gouge. It makes obtaining crafting materials next to impossible in high numbers, which essentially halts any crafting without spending exorbitant amounts of money on the Trading Post.

As to the new “chests” that supposedly drop when items are above a certain rarity. I’ve seen TWO since the new update, and I play 8+ hours daily. Further, those two dropped the same day as the patch, and I’ve seen none since. The only yellows I’ve gotten since the new update came today when I did, in a row, Tequatl, Shatterer, and Claw of Jormag, whose chests dropped one yellow each for me, with the exception of Jormag who dropped one yellow weapon like the others plus a yellow orb (beryl). I haven’t even gotten yellows in dungeons, although I can’t count fractals since I’ve only done one low level one since the update. I haven’t even gotten one exotic, minus what I’ve crafted myself.

This thread has 22 pages with at least 1051 posts. This all seems pointless now because I made the assumption – erroneously I might add – that Anet wanted data to figure out a “perceived problem” which apparently they and their own testing team do not experience. However, the title of this thread “Perceived Problem” seems to indicate that we, the players, do not see it correctly.

Even though the “Game Update Notes – November 15, 2012” indicated under the title “Items” that there would be positive changes to the game for loot drops, it apparently did not occur.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-November-15-2012/first#post808152

Here is the wording of that:
“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons. "

As for downscaled drops, here is what was posted:
“The amount of loot that drops for downscaled players has been increased. You should now be able to receive level-equivalent loot until you are fighting at a downscaled level that is less than 2/3 of your actual level. You should also receive loot a greater percentage of the time as well as receiving a greater percentage of experience, gold, and karma. For level 80 characters, this means level 55+ areas will be able to drop level 80 gear and give about 75% or so of the other rewards. Previously, these areas would give level 77 gear at best and closer to 60% or so of your rewards. "

@lynspottery: It is clear there was an issue introduced with that patch, but there is no acknowledgement that there is even an issue.

Well today I have seen DR kick in in the quickest time ever. DR kicked in only after killing 19 of the same thing, I was getting drops about every 2nd kill, then from around the 19th kill on, nothing, zilch, nada, zero. I was in this area last when we had kill variety for daily but only killed 1 of that type of foe.

So sorry to hear that….but you are not alone. I have given up on expecting decent drops any longer. I think my account may have been “Bugged” since I seem to see such horrendous drops on any of my characters.

It is really sad this is happening. I am trying to hang in there, but if it continues, I will probably move on to another game soon. Anet obviously does not count me as a valuable customer.

Why couldn’t this have been done two months ago? So much aggravation could have been avoided! I’m not saying this will resolve any issues of ill will but it could have spared many of us months of unnecessary angst and loss of faith in Anet and likely would have spawned far more cooperation among your player base.

I think it’s pretty obvious they don’t care. Or maybe their hands are tied by upper management, and upper management is full of idiots. When I look at this game, it’s obvious that at least the art department cared about their work, and were passionate. But the suits upstairs are running a business, and they are just plain lousy at public relations. I’ve never seen a company so out of touch with its consumer base before. It’s actually quite appalling to me, to see such a lack of communication between them and us, and therefore, I have no choice but to assume they couldn’t care less about our dissatisfaction, whatsoever. That’s bad business practice, as the ones they’re upsetting here will likely never buy another product with their label on it. But that’s the way it is.

We heard . . . we listened . . . we ignored.

Since the latest patch my loot issues (hardly seem to get any!) have just got worse.

Since the 28/29th January patch I have played on several characters for many hours at different times of the day and night. Farmed on my level 80, levelled my Necromancer 5 levels, completed the dailies every day and even started a new character to try and test things – levelling to 12.

I have even tried playing on a different server to see if it makes any difference.

In all that time I haven’t had a single mini chest drop – that’s no green, yellow or orange items of any kind at all – on any character.

My new character hasn’t had a single item of any loot to use – either weapon or clothing of any type (white, blue etc)

This is about 20 hours of gameplay – all of sudden my bags never need emptying – even part of one of the dailies the daily to kill 5 veterans yielded absolutely no loot of any kind, grey items, cash or anything.

I have put a ticket in to Anet but no response as yet but no official response and its clear that many players don’t seem to have a problem

This has now completely sapped my interest in the game for now :-(

The problem with this is that we’ve NEVER been given ANY direction from ANet about what data they’d like. Then they closed the old thread that had vastly more information it and they tend to quickly merge/kill any bug threads related to the issue. Of course, this points to confusion, delay and cover-up.

With the infamous unidentified dye bug then followed by the quick drop rate adjustment and the more recent (Jan 29th/30th) adjustments to drop rates in Orr to readjust rates that were already adjusted in the 28th patch. We already KNOW they can, AND DO, track live drop rates and posting stats here is a waste of time IMO. I’ve stopped complaining and adjusted my play so that it’s not drop-centric. Unfortunately, with completing 41 of the 44 jumping puzzles and 95% map completion, this game has nearly run it’s course. For me. With these drop rates, I don’t see the point in open world or dungeons any more.

Get used to the drop rates…this is not a bug, this is how it is. Adjust your play to compensate, put up with it, or leave the game. ArenaNet either doesn’t care and doesn’t believe there’s an issue or has their hands tied by their NCSoft/Nexon task masters. Either way, it’s not changing…coming on 3 months later, that’s obvious.

Ok i played for about three hours this AM, did my daily level 10 fractal run, got good loot as always, then killed the shatterer (one rare), the sunless (all green/blue), then farmed events in orr for an hour and a half. My whole group was getting rare drops, in one shelters event i got 4 rare weapons (also got about 25-30 porous bones in that event). In the last week i have got 2 exotic drops from mobs. Also T6 mats drop like crazy on Orr now both from moldy bags and on their own. I did not always get a rare per event, but it at least averages out that way. So it appears yet again there is no overall bug that is effecting everyone’s loot rate, it appears to only affect some people.

I keep posting in this thread because i am just try to help. I highly suggest farming in a full group, if you are at the orr events with like 20-30 people and you are not in a group, you just wont get as many kills thus less loot. Magic find def has an effect, i use full MF armor plus food. I have bad loot days where i get no or very few rares, but it seems the loot has taken a significant bump up in quality since last patch.

What would prevent them from in-acting some sort a CAPTCHA feature ig. I’d much rather have the annoyance from that then DR. Tbh I don’t understand why they haven’t tried alternatives to the current implementation since the current system is not working.

Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

Colin, just get rid of the DR, you’ll see far less complaints about loot.

I don’t suppose you’ve been adversely affected by loot drops (or lack of)? Oh no of course not, you’re a developer.

/sarcasm

Look it’s really very simple. Rollback whatever you did in the dreaded 15th of November update and see how things go. Everything that was good with drops in this game fell apart after that date. There, you have something more ‘concrete’ to work with.

Colin, I invite you to look at my account, specifically, at the drops I received before and after the lost shores update. It’s a difference of day and night. Four rares an hour vs 1 per 2 to 3 hours. Really, you have full permission. Just for clarity…when you say “from the November release” do you mean from that release alone…..or…all from that point on? Reason I ask is b/c just recently there was a change, that the player base has proof of, that can negatively effect loot (well…by negatively I mean no loot at all). Not to mention the champ/vet issue

PS… let me clarify by stating I’m mainly referring to dragon chests not appearing

Hardly.

Far from awesome anything tangible is being done about it, all I see is a lot of fit-farting about. They can tell us what they want. Run tests all you like, the reality is you can tweak drops at the touch of a button, a’la the unidentified dye drop fiasco. But you won’t make the game more rewarding for honest players, and as such people are leaving this game, as you can see from this thread. You CAN do something about it but you WON’T, not even as a remedial measure until you figure out why some people (quite a lot now) just aren’t being rewarded properly for their efforts. What happened to rares and exotics dropping more frequently? Was that for the whole game or just fractals? Legitimate questions that need answering.

I have experienced what appeared to be DR several times while running through Orr mining T5/T6 nodes with minimal killing.

This morning about a dozen of us were in our borderland map while queued for EB and we decided as a group to get our underwater kills while capping the quaggan areas. At first my drops were normal (a few blues, some mats, one green) but after less than 10 minutes nearly all of my drops turned into porous bones (13 total). The sole exception was one salvageable rag. While we were killing the same type of mobs (Kraits), we were moving around the lake and the island, presumably in a chaotic enough manner that we shouldn’t have been tagged as possible bots and subjected to DR.

When I moved out of the water and killed a dolyak my drops seemed to return to normal.

I am not posting in this thread to antagonize or bicker back and forth, but you must accept for some people (myself included) rares and exotics are indeed dropping more often. In fact since Jan. 28th loot has been much better for anyone i talk to in game (i see it in groups since i always ask them to link rare or better for my personal reference). I am posting to try to help or at least assist in determining what is not working as intended for the people who see the exact opposite loot drops. I thought it might be helpful to get a consensus on when people feel DR has hit them, i’d bet there is quite a range of definitions. You apparently don’t think that will help any, fine. Now the person best suited to answer your questions (game director) has stated that there is no overall bug with loot, no blanket nerfs, etc. So there is your official response. I hope your gameplay experience improves and becomes more enjoyable.

So the perceived strange drop behavior has now been confirmed as only an unfounded conspiracy.

November 15 to present has been determined to be working as intended.

They will now check anything from launch to Nov 1 to see if anyone was having issues with drops for that period.

I apologize for naively believing that the issues of champ/vet/boss non-drops and excessive DR and gray loot flooding would definitely be resolved by ANet. And I apologize for doubting posters who suspected this would be the case.

How does that crow taste? You have been white knight-ing your kitten off for a couple months now, to no avail.

It takes them this long to “verify” updates that have already been released? I work in IT and if I dropped a change in the environment on the company that was complained about of being buggy and then waited 2 months to just claim nothing at all was wrong they would fire my whole department.

They have changed loot several times as evidenced by patch notes, and obviously have the ability to change it on the fly. Yet they wont admit to the fact that they cant uncover the bug affecting folks in this thread and the other folks who have it yet dont post on forums and just left.

X-Files level conspiracy? Wow, and I thought the thread title was insulting. I’m done with this game.

Gee, I have to apologize as well, because the 5 worthless vets I killed 20 mins ago that dropped absolutely nothing were obviously a figment of my imagination, as all other Veterans and Champions who have dropped nothing also have been.

All the times I have killed champions I obviously got loot, but somehow refused to see it. Perhaps I need to “believe with all my heart” that loot drops, and faith will make it so.

After all your page long posts telling everybody what to do and how your experience leads you to believe blah blah blah this is the best you’ve got? At this point, since most of the people who posted here are going to quit playing this game, all that is left is a few “Told ya so’s” before we kitten off and go elsewhere.

And dont even start trying to act like a martyr.

Fear, for when I appear, threads soon after disappear…

Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

Can we please get confirmation the DR system is working as intended?

Perhaps players farming for months triggers something in the system which farming until November did not?

While I understand ANET has very concrete data on this matter, I would hope the DR system is double-checked on players who’s testimony claim something is whacky.

Thanks!

Doing the event chain in Kessex, around 3-5 champs minimum, 6-8 vets per lap.
Have done about 3 or four laps now, did nothing else today since it sends you a significant way across the map and shouldn’t inflict DR…

one blue item, 3 small supply bags.

Compensation, please as soon as you find out what is wrong with this game?

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

One theory in these regards may be how the RNG system works. It may punish players who tend to favor more specific actions, thus’ creating the illusion of it favoring certain players.

In Golden Sun for the GBA for example, one can manipulate droprates by performing very specific actions. Such also occurs in the Fire Emblem games for the very same system.

While I realize RNG systems have advanced since the days of the Gameboy Advanced, I do hope ANET double checks both the RNG and DR systems just to make sure they are functioning as intended. They may in fact favor certain players as Fire Emblem favors players who reset the game a lot.

I read from CJ’s post that the loot drops are “working as intended”.

It makes you wonder why he limited it to the November patch onwards when many posters contend that it was that patch that pushed the drop rates over the precipice.

Any analysis undertaken by ANet will be using those drop rates/loot tables etc as the baseline and it may well be true that the poltergeists have not got into the drop rates since that baseline was set…easy conclusion. The hard thing to look at is the baseline probably set in November.

Like I said “working as intended”.

In the longer term honesty and openness in communication and game design avoids the “X-Files syndrome”.

It doesn’t matter if you intentionally changed something or if there went something wrong you haven’t figured out yet.
You say “Everything seems to be fine.”
We say “Please, look what we are experiencing.”
You say “Cannot be. We didn’t do anything.”
Blablabla…

What you sometimes seem to neglect is that WE play your game, we pay with money for gems, we populate your world..
If you won’t start to address this IMPORTANT issue, it will be game breaking for us players and you will lose some players that would have loved to play your great game :-(.
You fling remarks about like “perceived” or “x-files level conspiracy” and behave in such an insulting way that I cannot understand how you dare to do so as a company.

In the end it doesn’t matter if you changed something or not. You should care for us and improve our situation regardless if your data show exactly what did happen or not.

We didn’t start on purpose to gather and wanted to complain how bad everything is. There were a lot of people that experienced something happening with/ after the 15th November patch.

This is not a campaign to get more and more and more loot.

We want to have decent loot again, a reason to stay and play.

Even now after your posting I didn’t lose hope that you will care for that player base that is experiencing this issue. You’ll find a solution. <3

Anyway, could there be the possibility that DR is messed up (for some players)? Or is really everything working as intended?

Hopefully,
Navi

I’m sorry if I’m being blunt, Colin, but that feels a bit like an offish response. Something certainly isn’t right, far from it, and 20+ pages worth of player feedback attests to this fact.

According to the November notes:

The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.

Firstly, there is no specification as to the increased amount, 1% can be considered an increase, but by all logic 1% means nothing in practice.
Secondly, it refers to places in the world, and what that means exactly is a mystery. Do you mean those not involved in events – so the event count as the reward – which is pure poppykitten, as they all deserve to be rewarding in equal measure.

Today I killed 10 veterans in Dredgehaunt, none of them dropped anything, and I don’t mean sucky drops, they literally dropped nothing, not a scrap. Clearly that’s not a conspiracy. You guys should go kill some karka, which requires twice the effort to kill, but rewards as terribly as the rest.

I call kittens. We used to be able to get a couple dyes every day, but now we get lucky to even get one every three days or so. And it’s not just me.

It’s amazing to me that they can’t detect what we are experiencing on a daily basis. So here’s what I’d suggest they do.

Play on the players accounts. seriously, give them a compeltely new account with a copy of everything they are using, test from locations they live in. Test on the live servers not on your special testing servers. Try farming for a couple of hours until you are quite sure that DR has kicked in.

Then log out until 4 hours later. Log back in and try killing things in events in Orr. See the complete different it makes when suddenly your bags are filling up with whites and porous bones. Also, take the time out to kill multiple veterans and champions on this account.

I guarantee you will see the loot is completely different then what you’ll find on your test servers.

I also find it amazing that since the Nov notes said their loot tables for vets/champs were increased and that most of us see nothing if not the occasional blue, how this can’t show up on their tests at headquarters? Someone seriously needs to look at the code for the data collection software seriously because a blind grandma can tell there’s something wrong.

yea old Jedi “mind” trick here I see…

Colin did NOT mention the difference between “BEFORE” and “AFTER” the Nov patch; just since that patch. So my opinion still is: there is a big difference between prior to/after the November patch.

Well, it appears nothing will be accomplished. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about a “red Herring?” If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck….lol

All illusions aside of course.
