- -1 exotic (it’s not a typo)

How do you get -1 exotic (that’s minus 1), if as you said, it’s not a typo?

Chest drop pic incoming…

I was simply trying to vent my frustration with the poor loot I have been receiving; didn’t want anyone to correct me based on bad grammar.

Might as well make this category (exotics) non existant for me.

P.S. Thank you for the chest image. It looks like the corpse might cover it initially?

It could, but only if you kill that foe while you’re right next to it. High possibility for melee char’s, but I’m guessing they’ve made the chest that size/shape/colour for distinction as most corpses would disappear if they had no loot to offer regardless of where the chest landed (right next to your character, it seems).

PS: I got a corrupted sliver from that chest, not a bad start.

Nothing at all or all porous bones? You truly are cursed…not even I’ve been that unlucky, even when drops are bad, I usually get a few silver worth of porous bones.

Not even porous bones, nothing, zilch, zero, nada, absolutely no drops at all.

The next event (shelter) I did get some drops but not many. Gave up after a few more events and went harvesting since I can make more from it with very little effort compared to killing stuff with a lot of effort.

Well, I have to admit to watching my drops today more closely than I usually do. What I noticed is a slight increase but it seemed a bit stingy still.

For 3 hours of play I received the following. Keep in mind many of the “items” I got, my character cannot use. She is a level 80 Elementalist and currently is running with all yellow gear and weapons.
1 Heavy loot bag
Green Rampager’s Focus of Hobbling lvl 78 (w/minor sigil of hobbling)
Blue Berserker’s Short Bow lvl 79 (no upgrade)
2 rags (trophy)
2 Porous bones (trophy)
2 valuable metal scraps (trophy)
1 Hard Leather Strap (trophy)
Blue Shaman’s Conjurer Mantle lvl 79 (no upgrade)
3 lge scales
white Chainmail Helm lvl 76
2 armored scales
white scepter lvl 76 (no upgrade)
Blue Berserker’s Reinforced scale coat lvl 80 no upgrade
1 discarded garment (trophy)
blue Berserker’s Trident (no upgarade)
6 Spikes (trophy)
Green Cleric’s Warhorn of Debility lvl 80 (w/minor sigil of debility

So its anyone’s guess as to whether or not I was “lucky”. Prior to mid-Nov patch I was getting a consistent collection of greens, blues, mats, some yellows and an occasional orange. But after that patch my loot drops tanked (as the saying goes).

Today showed a slight improvement for similar time frame but not much. I think my account is kitten and I will never obtain enough of anything to even think about trying for my legendary weapon.

Mats are IMPOSSIBLE because of the DR and I am not interested in farming/grinding which I thought we were not supposed to be required to do. But from everything I have seen, with the outrageous amounts of mats required the only way to get them is to farm/grind.

Comment: I really think we have all been lead astray and sent on wild goose chases for this thread.

For me chests dropped almost all possible loot varying from Porous Bones! to exotic.
I wonder if, somehow, new DR behaviour that’s stopping you from looting Temple/Dragon chests is messing with wooden chests.

Anyway, I still experience heavy DR hits even after 1 event (penni/shelter). I am starting to think that it has to do something with me using lots of AoE in short time, yet, in terms of number of drops, I still do loot at least 6-7 mobs in a single wave.

Since last patch I did drop about 8 rares and 2! exotics (named Scepter Anura and Shiro’s Chest piece) which literary blew my head. Provided that I didn’t had much time to play since patch (only like 6 hours total) I might not be hit by DR yet. Question is what it takes to get rid of DR? My thought that since I do jump a lot more to do new dailies (soloing mobs for dodge, ressing NPCs in low lvl areas, looking for player free ponds to kill fish, crafting in towns, etc.) DR stays away from me for a while longer. No idea TBH.

Oh, and Grenth chest yesterday, for the first time ever, gave me only Green loot! Not a single blue item.

Also, I have almost no MF in armor (only 3% in pendant). I only use nonnon bar and banner if I find one + sigil of luck.

Magic find at work: 30min lvl 53 Jotun farming
Lvl80 Warrior, 122% magic find, 40% gold from monsters

First 5 mins saw drops every second Jotun, then is went to about every 4th Jotun.

Drops:
24 Crumbling Bones (mostly 2 at a time)
12 Heavy Bones
10 Engraved Totems
3 Frayed Rags
Berserker’s Pirate Shoulders lvl80 (blue)
Acolyte Pants lvl76 (white)
Rawhide Mask lvl50 (white)
Shaman’s Shiverpeak Trident lvl76 (blue)

Did another 30min run and picked up
34 Crumbling Bones (mostly 2 at a time)
9 Heavy Bones
5 Engraved Totems
3 Frayed Rags
Rawhide Shoulders lvl80 (white)
Rampages Axe of Peril lvl 78 (green)

DR is definitely in effect.

Magic find is a great way to get fine crafting materials, a bad way to get equipment.

Vet Jotun also did not drop anything so I left him alone since he was not worth the effort.

Things that need fixing:
Champions and vets should always drop something, with champions offering better drops.
Drops in general should be put back to their pre-nov15 state so that rares drop as often as they used to.

Things that need clarifying:
What magic find actually does so we can make informed decisions about our builds. In my experience it increases your chance of fine crafting materials while decreasing your chance of equipment.
What we should expect on average from drops, including how often we should see a drop, and rough % chances of the different types of drops.

I wonder why people are still reporting on their atrocious lootrate. Anet has shown you it’s working as intended, by nerfing the droprate within a day of the 28 jan patch. When (or rather, if) they read your reports of very bad droprates, they concluded “working as intended”. When they read your reports of decent droprates, the nerfhammer came instantly. Just remember: if it ever goes up again, and you report it here, you can be sure it will be nerfed. Arenanet is NOT on your side concerning satisfactory rewards for open world PvE, people. They are looking at a larger picture, and that picture is not in line with your (and my) vision of what those rewards should be.

I just wanted to add some observations today. I played on my alternate account for a couple of hours. (I bought a second account on X-mas day when Amazon had it for 29 usd)
I played the lvl 33 warrior for a bit and hit DR running a few DE’s. As soon as I moved to a new zone I began getting good loot again. This also happened after I created a new mesmer character on this account. I ran around trying to level her and got to about lvl4 when she hit DR. I couldn’t move zones so I tried to just move to the higher areas on the map, take a few pot shots at enemies with other players around. After a couple of kills I ran back to the starter areas and ‘presto’ the DR was gone.
WHY does this work so well on this other account and not on my main?
Sure I could just play this other account but I have invested a good amount of time and gems on the main (maxxed bank slots, bag slots, maxxed crafting on all but 2 disciplines, etc. ) And does it have anything to do with the fact that this new account is on Tarnished Coast (main is on Blackgate). Or does it have to do with when I got the account? The main I got pre-release and played the Beta’s.
Also while playing on this laptop I have found that even a small amount of lag greatly affects the loot drop. More lag obviously means less chances for loot. By going back to low level zones and killing mobs quickly I almost always get better quality loot. Does this somehow tie in? Is this how grouping tends to make quality and quantity go up?
Before when I was on the gaming rig I could really do well in Orr, Cursed Shore but only while grouping. Now that I have the crappy-lappy, even in groups my loot has been halved.
When I have more time I will try again to gather data. Just throwing out some questions that plague me each time I compare accounts or compare gaming on different systems.

Devs and ANet staff in general, like commanders, hold a special status in-game, a status that can coded to ignore things such as DR. You don’t think devs are going to allow themselves to be crippled do you? I certainly wouldn’t.

It’s working as ANET intented, they do everything in stealthnerfs.

With the addition of the boxes it is now painfully obvious how low the droprate really is and that is counting the buggy chests who still give junk. They do not care, 2k+ posts with not even a single obvious answer even the chests are starting to have DR while they said that chests are not affected by DR.

We will never see the days again where we did grenth and got loads of rares and the brainwashing has already begun, i’m even starting to see posts about people who applaud the changes in Orr because they have gotten 1 Rare in an evening of playing, 1!! and they think this is normal.

They will be able to do this until people get fed up, only casualls will stay and within a year better alternatives will be out and this game will be gone. All because they think it’s better to put as much rules, restraints, DR, RNG on everything that only way you can actually make some money is to buy gems or farm the trading post which sometimes is borderline “Scamming” imo.

I wont bother posting here anymore, wont bother to bug report since as i said, it’s obvious this is the way arenanet wants it.

The number of those who were around pre-Nov 15th is starting to dwindle. I said this in the old thread, or maybe early in this thread, that they were simply stalling and trying wait it out until the memory of Pre-Nov 15th drop rates fades away and this becomes the new normal. As you said, this is becoming the obvious outcome when people are praising a single rare. Exotics are essentially grind for money/mats to buy or make them. Legendaries are uber-grind, probably years for a casual player, and with DR, essentially impossible at this point without sinking money into the gem store. I estimate within a year, GW2 will go the same way as so many other gear grinders I’ve read about, and refused to play because I don’t like grind, free to buy/free to play.

Did 5 jumping puzzles last night…nothing better than a green and one yellow mat…pearl orb, I think.

Delay and stall, more likely…perhaps a test intended to ultimately to slow down bots. Takes time to open a chest, soon all drops will be like this, that way you won’t be able to quickly go f-f-f-f-f-f-f to pick up a bunch of drops…devastating to bots farming mobs. I hope this isn’t the case, or reason, as this is just more anti-player crap.

I also had other chests..
I think:

- I am not sure whether I got one with crafting material.. if yes.. nothing special
- and my last one was the incredible great loot: a porous bone

Returning player… left early Nov…

I’ve been running solo with an Elementalist. Noticed that I am getting no loot at all when I use conjured weapons…

Speed is a big factor… if I’m alone… and I kill quickly… no loot. If the fight takes too long… no loot. There’s a ‘sweet’ spot in the middle that gives loot some of the time.

I did a dynamic event with other players (not grouped) on the 30th and saw a huge increase in the drop rate… almost every mob killed gave up something- mostly trash, but when I continued to solo afterwards… droprate went back down to the ‘new normal’.

I would guess, based on my experience, that Devs are trying to discourage gold farmers/bots by tweaking loot drop-rate. Unfortunately- a bot doesn’t get discouraged…players do.

I didn’t even notice this sticky about the loot issues until I read about it in another thread.

Since the patch/update on 1/28 it seems that myself and a few guildies have been hit with this issue now.

It also appears that a few other guildies that were not getting decent loot drops before 1/28 are now getting good loot drops, while a few others haven’t noticed a change either good or bad.

I sent in a ticket, cookie cutter reply, updated it, had them reply to post a suggestion on the forums about it. lol

At least this game was only buy to play, I can always check back later and see if this kittened mess is fixed.

Funny someone mentioned the game TOR earlier, it was an update/patch that ruined that game for me too. I haven’t returned to that game either and we all can read about the awesome first year they had. lol

It was fun for five months, so at least Anet beat the last game by two months.

Looks like nothing is going to be able to hold me for at least 6 years like one game did. They even had a monthly sub and added some extra fluff that I spent a lot of my entertainment budget on each month.

C’est la vie

So the common theme in these MMOs is to play the kitten out of them as soon as they come out…before the business end makes some really stupid decisions that screw the game up? I get it now. The whole business model is to bait-n-switch. ESO is looking more and more appealing…get in early and play it before it goes to hell.

Tonight is “guild night” for my guild…not a single person signed in other than me…I signed out. It’s really kind of sad…the game is in it’s end cycle for most I play with methinks.

If you’re expecting to make money off of grinding your face off, you’re sorely mistaken. Even back when the droprates were better (I define this as before the Unidentified Dye droprate nerf… into oblivion), the best way to make money was via dungeon speedclears. Specifically Arah, before it got nerfed.

Want to make money currently? Run an AC full clear, farm CoF P1 speedclears, CoE P1/P2, HotW P1, CM P1, SE P1/P3, and TA full clears. You’ll get at least 1g per path at 0 DR and, in the case of CoF P1 speedclears, 40-60s per run at maximum DR with the amount of Molten Cores and Lodestones that drop. Just a bit of a disclaimer, however, I haven’t had time to pop into a CoF P1 farm yet this week, and I’m not sure about what they changed in there. You will, however, need to be a Guardian, Warrior, or Mesmer for them.

Now, to bring my post more on-topic, I have horrid RNG in all ways, shapes, and forms. 7 fractals last night, 1 rare. Couple of guildies came out with at least 7, another ended up with 16. Despite my usually horrid luck, I still own 2 full sets of T3 cultural armor, and 3/4 of a Legendary. Mostly because I know how to farm dungeons.

Unfortunately, you can’t draw any proper conclusions without a sufficiently large population to draw from. If you want to start to investigate droprates in areas you perceive to be abnormally low, you should start logging your drops in a spreadsheet, otherwise it’s simply anecdotal evidence.

I agree, this thread is a red herring (a diversionary tactic) to hide what Anet is really up to. Although it was started by an Anet employee to make it look legit (and not just some whining crap about kitten drops), it’s looking more and more like they’re not interested in anything anyone has to offer in this thread.

As far as they’re concerned they’re getting perfectly reasonable drops and that’s the end of it. Everyone else be kitten To cover it up and try to restore some faith, they’ve introduced this new ‘reward system’ which has nothing at all to do with drops. It’s all about laurels and completing dailies in a less boring and more varied manner. Now to most people on these forums, rewards translate almost directly to drops. This is not the case, people. Anet have, once again, simply glossed over your drop complaints as it’s something they reckon doesn’t need fixing, and if it does then they’ll claim that it takes too long to fix. Another one for the too-hard basket.

We already know they can adjust the drop rates on-the-fly, the unid. dyes was a perfect example of that. It’s a matter of the DR tap being turned off and squeezing the drops to the point of breaking.. the game. You’ll never get rid of botters no matter how hard you try or what security systems you implement, they’ll always find ways around it.

So many people have left this once-glorious game, the charge which was led by the elitists who noticed that there’s no real endgame here, and the last of us who have hung on for long enough to see if you’ll do something about drops to make our play time worth being on the GW2 servers for.

This thread used to be a factual drop thread with info as accurate as one could muster, once… now it’s just turned into a rant thread. Seriously, do better, Anet.

Yeah, you pretty much need to play with your eyes closed to not see how abysmal the drops are. I’ve ran HotW p1 (some days 2+3) and CoF p 1+2 almost every day for two weeks now, with Omnoms and no MF gear. Yesterday was the first time I received an exotic, and that was from a chest so MF didn’t even count. I received 0 rares.

Champions and veterans have normal drops as far as I can tell, because I’m yet to see a vet drop a rare for that matter. Whenever I see a champ or vet, I avoid them like the plague.

Of all the changes so far I’ve been very supportive, but this is the one part of the game that really gets to me, and it’s plain kittened up. The Nov patch was supposed to fix this, it said so in the notes for crying out loud, but it’s as obvious as day that absolutely nothing had been changed.

Rewards are supposed to be part of the game, but it’s become a shoddy mess.

Rewards are supposed to be part of the game, but it’s become a shoddy mess.

[sarcasm]
Rewards are part of the game…you can buy gold through the gem store and buy whatever you want in game….even legendaries… Isn’t this how it’s supposed to be?

Weirdest thing ever, yesterday of playing gw2, I was getting minimal rewards(including event/karma rewards) but now today, for some odd reason, im actually getting rewards and some decent cash, but it looks like they did reduce the drop rate of yellows, but as long im now making 1 gold an hour, im good to go.

I’ve been in a fun go around with the in game support about this issue and it appears as if it’s all “working as intended”.

So I wished them well, like I did another MMO company last year based in Austin, Texas, and also hope they don’t have the same results as that other company did.

Best of luck to everyone, all I can say is just play the game until you don’t have fun any more.

When it started to cost me more in fees each day than I was able to loot, the fun ended for me.

Kind of strange though that just small groups have been hit with this permanant style of DR over the last few months.

It kind of reminds me of those little control groups when it comes to testing, where some get the real product and others get the placebo, but I digress.

How’s this for perception. Near an hour hitting karka as I searched for ori (congrats on killing the nodes, even less reason to go to a zone you must have worked hard on. sure ain’t going for a plain node guarded by a champ, bank on it) ZERO shells. But I was overjoyed at a blue spear and TWO bits of crab meat junk loot. THAT will sure act as a reason to go back.

Has anyone else heard about dragon chests disappearing? People are speculating that the DR has gotten so bad that it makes entire dragon chests disappear now.

I’ve played the past couple of days. Still no improvement in drops. I’ve killed every veteran and champ I see, and nothing. They just don’t seem to care or there’s something wrong with their data gathering software somewhere in there if it’s truly not showing them what’s happening to us.

I don’t know if this is a joke, but boss chests have a rare random bug, or at least used to, where they would not show up or not be lootable by everyone who participated in the event.

Your commentary brings to mind my foray into the Southsun area late last night with my new lvl 80 ele. I asked for some back up and two of my guildies so kindly came along to help me. I wanted to get most of the way points so that if things changed in the area all 3 of my high level characters could get there with little problem.

The Ranger guildie who joined me early on wanted to farm for karka shells, so I went along to help out. She is very good with her bear, so I used a combo of fire for dps and water for healing…we did have fun, but then I always have fun when I run with guildies no matter what it is for.

However, for that half an hour while waiting for our other friend to show up, all that dropped were:
Ranger = 1 karka shell, 4 pcs of crab meat and 2 spiral trophy shells.
Me (Ele) = 6 spiral trophy shells, 1 blue lvl 78 spear (which I cannot use), lots of “nothing dropped” (figures, this is the story of my loot drops recently)

Well, we at least broke even on the total amount of drops but not on what dropped.

This is really a nice area now that you don’t get pinned to the ground every 2 feet any longer. It does appear the karaka have been thinned a bit, but still as a light armor wearing ele, I cannot do well farming without help.

I die way too often to make up for the loot I do get. Cost of way points + repairs are just not worth it….can’t even break even on that score.

The landscape offers intriguing options which “just are not there,” which is sad because it really could be vibrant if Anet just worked on adding things there. Since I’ve already done both JPs in the area and managed to obtain some ori before they removed that rich ori node, I cannot see any earthly reason to revisit it now, no matter how much I wish to.

I own the CE and used to throw money at the cash shop constantly. I don’t even play anymore. I haven’t even logged in to see the new patch. The reward system in this game has got to a point where there just wasn’t any point playing anymore.

The following is a quote from the recent update regarding a change to loot drops.

  • “In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.”

Why is it then every chest I have gotten contains a trash white item or low level crafting mat

At least you’ve seen chests, I played PvE for two or three days after the patch and have yet to see a chest. However, in keeping with my goal of map completion, I’ve moved mostly to WvW as that’s the only non-dungeon area I have left to discover and the only jumping puzzles I have left. Not sure if you get little chests there, but I have seen the occasional little cloth bag pop, mostly after an execution…same idea?

Aside:
In 40 kills I only received 5 badges though. :/ Badge rewards, usually given for executions, are heavily weighted toward big DD players such as warriors. If you’re an range/AOE user…quite often the kill is already claimed by the time you get to the body. I get credit for lots of kills, but not a lot of executions…hence not a lot of badges. This is more of a game design issue than a loot issue, I digress.

Since this patch the DR bug has gotten worse, and now even the few places where I USED to get loot are dropping nothing but blues or worse.
I mean it. Not. One. Thing. Over. Blue. in 3 hours of play last night.

Just found out my guild leader the guy who made my guild decided to leave the game permanently.

Why? Two reasons.

  1. because the drop rates. Can’t say I blame him this thread is nearing the 1200 mark.
  2. because necros problems have not been fixed. Honestly as an engineer I have the greatest sympathy for that one.

As a bonus here’s my experience for the day. The daily today to kill all those veterans. Not a single thing dropped from them. Not even the typical single blue out of 5 vets dropped. Actually let me correct myself, I actually killed 8 because I got myself stuck somewhere where there’s a ton of mobs and couldn’t escape due to cc. So it’s really worse then I was saying before.
