How do you not get kill credit soloing?

Same question I have.

I’ve often wondered if using pets/minions counted toward damage dealt by me or if they’re classed as an NPC. I know, and I just tested to confirm, that damage caused by my flesh golum does NOT appear in the combat log, which would imply such damage is not counted toward my total damage dealt. This would be a huge issue for necros with condition damage/minion builds, such as myself, since the main bulk of my direct damage are my minions. So, if my minion(s) deal most of the damage and that’s not getting accounted to me, that could at least partly explain why my drops are below average.

I filed a bug in the issue…not sure if it’s the same for other pet/minion classes, such as rangers.

I looted Vial of Condensed Mists Essense from 25 personal (26 real) level of fractals today. I laughed hard when received it

I have another idea of strange loot behavior. May be they forget to add magic find when calculate stats? Everytime we are equiping or dropping MF armor we lose magic find? Can it be below 0 and have negative numbers?

I have 4 pg lvl 80 without magic find and i drop regularly except with my main character RANGER with 146 magic find.
The problem also relates to the drop of materials not only of rare or exotic.
For example, I did one day of farming with a couple of friends to try drop the armored scales, I have found only 2 them over 15.
I did experiment with other materials and the relationship and on average 1/10 compared to other players.
I understand that this is a weird problem and abnormal but comparing 4 characters and with other players of my guild is very obvious the difference.

A ranger is a pet class. Rangers with a bear being a favorite for many bot users, I’m really starting to wonder if they did something to pet/minions to nerf drops for those classes, if you decide to use your pets. Well, let’s see what ANet says to my bug…if they reply to it.

I kinda sense that we’re all after a little less randomness to our drops.

Just after Christmas, I decided to make a Corrupted Longbow, and so I would spend up to two hours a day farming corrupted lodestones. During that time, I would net between 1 and 3 per hour. I felt a certain amount of control over my rewards. If I wanted corrupted lodestones, I’d log in and go farming in FS and grab a handful of them. I had a goal, and felt as though it was attainable by effort.
I have only dropped one in the last month, and that was by accident (which is to say that I wasn’t farming for it). Instead of being pleased, I was frustrated. Clearly any control I thought I had was an illusion.
Conversely, I have dropped more exotics from random mobs (tunnel farming) in the last fortnight than I have dropped from any means at all in the other five or so months since launch. The best of those, Deathwish, sold for a little over 10g.

I have no idea how to go about improving the odds of a good drop: sometimes MF works, sometimes no MF works; sometimes being in a party works, sometimes soloing works. I just can’t fathom a pattern. I’m all for an element of randomness, but I also like to have a plan of action when I log in, otherwise I simply don’t feel compelled to log in. It all becomes aimless.

And let’s not even go near the precursors! The idea that one person can craft a precursor on their second Mystic Forge attempt while another person can throw hundreds of lvl80 rares into the Forge and still not receive a precursor seems ludicrous to me! It seems unfair. It’s not enough to say that they had the same chance as each other; it would be far more balanced if both players could exert some amount of control over their drops – to be rewarded similarly for similar amounts of investment (in time, effort, and currency).

I have no doubt that drop rates must be a mahoosive headache for the ANet team; but given the amount of posts in this thread, and in similar threads, I do think there needs to be some sort of reevaluation, if only to give us a reasonably solid means of achieving our goals – to give us a sense of purpose and direction and a modicum of control over our destinies.

My main is a lvl 80 Ranger with crafted Beserker armor and 6 superior pirate runes. <— they were cheap at the time. Now I’m thinking of getting superior runes of Strength to finally drop all MF. Weapons have superior sigils having nothing to do with MF.
I too rarely get the rate of materials or loot in general that others see when we group together. It makes me wonder how many of us are pet/minion/kit players that see this loot issue.

Went to do some more exploration and started of in the ‘Windy Cave’ minidungeon (south of Mistriven Waypoint in Lornar’s Pass). I have not been there in ageeeees. The first veteran imp dropped a friggin EXOTIC HAMMER!. Followed by few blues, no greens, and some rags. I died in the cave by accidently falling and when rewent there i suddenly started to get junk. I then finished the cave with 1 green, several blues, and half junk. When I went to anotehr area I loot was no better than a green. Not even once did I receive above green after this.

DR really needs to go. It just makes gameplay unpredictable, which results in me being forced to change areas/zones even amidst doing DE’s.

As we seemed to be off-topic, back to this thread here..

How likely could it be that the vet/ champ problem mentioned by Jason could affect also other, openworld foes?
If the kill credit for these enemies is not working, maybe it is not working for the others, too?

As we do not know yet, what exactly kill credit means, it could be
1) kill credit = event credit (medals, karma, gold)
2) kill credit is not event credit, could be an internal measurement system how the system decides that you have qualified (enough) for loot.

I think it is very unlikely that kill credit is shown as XP or event credit, because player receive xp and/ or the event credit, but not getting the kill credit on champs or veterans. That way they do not get loot from them.
It’s not too delusional to consider if then every openworld enemy can be affected by this problem (the kill credit not working properly → less loot).

We do not know the factors for kill credit, but for example it could be high dps and high killing speed. So maybe the second point (killing speed) could be the reason for people not getting credit even when they solo the champs/ vets. (That way the game tells you: You are just too slow.^^)

The problem with going down this line of thinking is that what about those of us who are the only one killing and still get bad/no drops. Even though we are the only ones doing the killing is the system that flawed that even solo kills will sometimes not count?

And what about these new chests that are meant to drop good loot, but instead are dropping junk? Surely something else is in play here.

I wrote about the solo players.. you never know if we have to do enough damage and/ or kill an enemy fast enough to get this kill credit. If you solo it and you do not get kill credit, it could simply be that you were too slow. It’s just an idea, but who knows?

The chests are messed up. Don’t know what they have done to that, but as I can see other player’s chest, it cannot be working as intended. In my opinion the chest that drops horrible loot (like porous bones) was not meant for me.
Otherwise if they were meant for me and anet is serious about that, I have no idea why they are doing something like this ^^
So I think they have just messed up with the chests a little bit.

The above thread sounds like a ad for bots in gw2. Taking all the bots out of game apparently ruined the game? Darn arenanet for doing their job and getting rid of bots/rmt who support terrorist organizations, credit card theft, identity theft, and hacked accounts.

That’s not what I was getting at at all. Bots are bad, and everyone can agree with that. However, bad or not, removing so many bots so quickly, removed an enormous part of in the supply chain and was devastating to the economy. 35000 bots, which if they’re running 24/7 is probably the equivalent to close to 150,000 player accounts, all putting stuff on the TP. Many people keep all their craftable stuff, so in reality, this may likely be equivalent to even more players than that. Added to that, the DR to prevent farming and reduced drops that still plague many people, including myself, I would argue it was a knee-jerk reaction and not well thought out what the consequences would be. Perhaps the current TP is what they had envisioned all along and the bots had broken it. I do know the game is a far cry from what it was when I first started playing it…and that is the main problem many people have. This is not the same game I bought.

35000 bots at one time…really? The bots should never have been allowed to get to that level to begin with…that is entirely on ArenaNet and it’s the player base that is paying the price.

Really, 3 blues and a green gem for the Megadestroyer? Literally less than one can make on a single mid-level ore node. I can go to Orr and make more on porous bones in ten minutes. This can’t be intended behavior and is just plain chinsy for the sake of it. It’s a boss event for god’s sake!!! People will eventually get fed up with it. At least two other people on the event with me only got blues. Wasn’t this one the contributing factors to D3’s failure? Horrible drop rates?

A 12G day? OMG, I can’t even comprehend a 12G day. If I sold everything that dropped on a good day in Orr, including mats, I might see 3G…on a bad day, easily less than 50s. And that doing 8-12 events. Ask yourself…“Would you be OK with drop rates like this?”

This guy is in exactly my boat. I’m glad at least one person understands, and it all started on 11/15. Meanwhile my buddies on the “other half” of the great loot divide still bank 9-15 ectos a day.

This has been an interesting thread. The problem is that it’s mostly all anecdote. There’s no concrete anything in any part of this.

No offence but what do you (and anet if they think similarly) expect from players? Of course its going to be anecdotal if you really think many players are going to sit down and fill in a spreadsheet to track their drops then I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Plus there’s the fact that as pointed out early in this thread its largely about drops now compared to drops before the Nov 15 patch, why would players be expected to track loot before then?

The sheer amount of anecdotal evidence both here and in other threads is enough to paint a picture of the poor loot drops experienced by a lot of people. And there is plenty of actual detail about champions and veterans clearly not dropping the loot they are supposed to according to the patch notes.

Definitely getting beyond ridiculous, doing my dailies, 4 vets down, traveling around the map, making sure I don’t kill the same vet twice, another 10 to 15 regular mobs in between, got one drop from a regular mob, a salvageable pelt. I have been making sure to not farm, and only logging in to get dailies done for the last few days to make sure the DR monster wasn’t biting me on the rump. So much for vets giving drops almost eery time, 4 vets no drop between them. But they say everything is working corectly, can you imagine what things would be like if they were broken?

If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.

Kill credit my rump. I solo’d 5 vets for the achievement yesterday, one dropped mats, one dropped grey trash, and the other three dropped nothing. Me and another player also killed a champ today, he joined in about halfway, and I received nothing from that.

How exactly did kill credit suddenly factor into this? Unless, the game bugs out and the code somehow doesn’t allow loot to drop because you get wrongly flagged. If this is the case then Jason should have been clearer on the matter. Because his post can be interpreted in different ways.

Fact of the matter is, ANet should fess up to this debacle. They keep pointing at the matter and respond with a shrug. Meanwhile, this thread gets littered daily with posts from people who’re obviously effected by this issue.

Not getting credit for playing the game feels downright rubbish.

How many mats, blues, whites though? Because you can’t judge drops off not getting yellows alone, you should be getting rare mats, and by rare I mean blue ones that sometimes net up to 12-15s each.

Perhaps a half a dozen T6 mats. Usually gossamer scraps, which seem to be the most common, the odd other one. Two green, perhaps 15-20 between blues and whites. One unidentified dye that opened to a common. Yes, I can judge drops, because when you consistently see something like this, that indicates something is unbalanced beyond bad luck. Also, rares=ecto which makes them vastly more desirable than greens.

If you run a RNG (100) 10 times, sure, there is a chance that you will hit all low or all high numbers. However, if you run it 1000 or 10000 times, unless you have a buggy RNG or bad seed, the distribution will be very linear and will balance out. In this case it is not balancing. The haves consistently get normal/good drops, while the have nots consistently get proverbial garbage by comparison. To me this point to a bad seed. I once wrote a small Java program to test the randomness of it’s built in RNG under various circumstances. I know how RNG works. It isn’t the first time I’ve seen this behavior in groups, which is why I rarely bother to group up since it seems to make little or no difference. In fact, I tend to do better for loot without a group because I can move around faster, which is completely counter to what ANet says should happen.

I am going to spend a big chunk of my gold and build a full set of MF gear, just to prove that that won’t even help my situation. Realistically, without any chance of ever achieving a legendary with these drops, what else am I going to spend it on?

I was just curious. I spend around 11 hours a day grinding so I have a large gathering of data to work with. I’ve tried a full MF set with boosts etc, around 248MF total.
Below is ONLY for what I tried a few weeks ago, and is not what I had on in my vids/pics.
Omnomberry Bar 30% MF – 40% Gold – +10XP
Guild Buff 10% MF
Guild Buff 5% XP
Guild Banner 5% XP
Guild Banner 10% MF
Magic Find Booster 50% MF
Experience Booster 50% XP
Laurel Coin Booster 30% Gold
Laurel MF Booster 30% MF
Laurel XP Booster 30% XP

130% MF
70% Gold
90% XP
+10 Xp

Gear set:Green MF set every slot. 118MF

That didn’t seem noticeable except maybe when I was in Orr. But that could have been RNG, in lower level areas I noticed no difference. I get a few greens, many blues, and some whites every run, with a large amount of mats. I don’t count on rares, I realize they “can” salvage into nice cash though. I expect “much” loot rather than “rare” loot. Because its the large amount that I make the money on. On average, each run I do gets me around 50-70s in greens/blues direct to NPC. Junk may be averaged into that amount, but the coin drops themselves are not. Overall amounts I make from these I already posted in previous pages.

I don’t really group unless it is guildies, I have heard that it helps with loot drops (quantity, not quality) because you have more contribution. But I’m not sure of this, I am sure you get more influence for guild though heh.

First of all thank you for such a constructive thread, we really appreciate it.

To answer your concern, our staff members are really dedicated to the community, and they read the forums every day to address your issues & concerns. However, due to the amount of threads in the forums, they can’t answer each of them personally. But it doesn’t mean that you haven’t been read.

This thread is now locked, thank you for your understanding.

This is the answer of a politician. Anet must employ politicians for moderators or something.

The body of that response I found very laughable. Instead of However, due to the amount of threads in the forums, they can’t answer each of them personally it should be they don’t want to answer them because they can’t admit something is wrong with the loot drops and the over-zealous DR in the game.

I think it’s quite simple – they don’t want to talk to us about such touchy, game-breaking subjects. They know what they have to do to fix it, but they just can’t bring themselves to do it.

Personally, I love reading the countless dev responses about people who can’t type their own email address correctly, throw away their exotic armor by accident or by “Schrodinger’s sibling” or (the horror) NOT BEING ABLE TO BUY GEMS… (le gasp!) — yet we can’t get a daily update because we have the forum equivalent of ‘no child left behind’.

Really disheartening. If there isn’t some kind of miraculous discovery why this is happening or at least some hefty compensation soon, people are going to leave simply because this issue took too long and was not handled transparently and kindly. (If they haven’t already)

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

For whatever reason, Achievement bug (whether it is related I do not know), server reset…or something else….

My drop rate is fixed. I am now getting about 80 percent of mobs killed drop SOMETHING.

I do not know what you did, but do not sell that cow.

It’s very common for drops to be good after a server reset. Usually it doesn’t last.

Mine have been consistently bad, 50 percent or more of everything I kill drops absolutely nothing since November patch.

That having been said, there have been days when it was some better, but never up to what it was pre-November. Today my drops are the best they have been since Beta.

How exactly did kill credit suddenly factor into this? Unless, the game bugs out and the code somehow doesn’t allow loot to drop because you get wrongly flagged. If this is the case then Jason should have been clearer on the matter. Because his post can be interpreted in different ways..

I wrote about a thought what could happen to player who solo them.
We don’t know what “kill credit” is and how it works. So maybe one factor could be kill speed, and I am quite sure soloing needs a certain amount of time to kill the boss. Maybe that is too long and you don’t get kill credit.. who knows? (You can also get xp and/ or event credit.. doesn’t have to be the same as kill credit)

There is no “drop rate of new chests”. The chests “should” appear only when the mob you killed drops a green or above item. Anything less will be seen on the mob normally. That’s the only variation, just different way of dropping the same loot.

Except when it doesn’t work, of course, and you get a spider leg or a porous bone. I don’t even get excited to see the chest anymore since they’re usually a let down. I probably have had close to 20 chests , not more than 5 have dropped green or better. Two dropped rare and that was last week some time and was the last time I saw a rare.

On to magic find. So, I’ve nicely outfitted myself in good MF gear (+145-148 raw gear with no boosters or food) and ran Cursed Shore for about an hour. Granted, this is short test, but not promising. I’m pretty sure my drops were even worse than they normally are. Overall, it feels like less drops than normal and even lower quality. No rares or exotics, only one or two greens, only 2-3 T6 mats, tons of vendor junk though (Porous bones, spider legs and dull claws).

I know its random. But 1 run of fractals one day gave me 6 rares and an exotic but normally 3 rares per run. But if i farm, do my daily, 1 hour wvw, then fractals, i get nothing.

Random i know, but still true.

Got a green off a mob (not a box, I wait to see if I can spot a white cloud). This whole box thing is just not working right. No boxes today, so can’t really say anything otherwise…

I am convinced we’re not playing the same game as the devs. Took them since November 15 to say that the vet/champ loot problem is an issue of not getting kill credit (which is nonsense since even when solo they don’t drop anything) They call our perceived drops a conspiracy theory while being quite snarky about it. I’ll just go back to doing my daily once in the morning and once at night until the devs actually decide to do something about the issue and be honest about it.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

It does not have to be nonsense. We do not know what the factors for kill credit are.
Maybe one of it is how fast you kill an enemy. If you solo, most of the time you will need a certain amount of time to kill the champ/ vet.
If kill credit depends on speed, you would not get kill credit.
But you can get event credit and xp, because these do not seem to be depending on kill speed.

This topic was asked in a sticky a few weeks back, and due to my schedule I was finally able to respond. I took a break from my weekly videos to show the difference in perception. Since perception is in the eye of the beholder, it’s opinionated. A lot of players to include me believe Loot drops and the drops we should be getting should be weighed against risk/reward and time of effort. I created a video which simultaneously puts CoF Path1 vs End of the Plinxx Event Chain Open World Champion. In the dungeon it was 4 Guildies and a Pick Up Member. And in the Champion video I was in a party of 2 [total]. The perception is I can get through 80% of CoF Path1 already receiving 2 chests and a Boss which drops a Bag and 10silver (un-omnom); VS an open world Champion that may or may not drop loot and rewards around 4 silver.

I have edited the video to be a quick watch.

I posted in another thread (something about the wooden box drops and how they drop junk instead of what they’re supposed to be dropping). I got a box/chest just yesterday and for the first time it actually dropped junk (Ice Stones) instead of anything green or above. I had seen it drop a T6 material before, but wasn’t sure if that was within it’s parameters.

I’ve no idea why they implemented boxes as part of their loot system, maybe to make it feel more special about getting junk; but like everything else loot-related in this game, if it’s unclaimed within say 2 minutes then it’s gone forever.

This doesn’t even matter those who do get kill credits can get white loot anyway which is in contravention of what anet said would happen after the Nov 15 patch.

Yeah, it’s all messed up.
I am not saying that when someone indeed gets kill credit and he receives white loot from an champ/ vet that this loot is fine or working as intended.
I wanted to point out that the same problem with the “not getting kill credit”, could cause the experienced issues with the decreased loot after the 15th Nov patch.
They said something like “every vet/ champ should guarantee loot” (Did they say how good that loot should be? Can’t remember exactly.).
This is obviously not the case and Jason recently said it is not working properly likely due to a problem that player do not get kill credit. (What does not exclude soloing, because we do not know what the factors for kill credits are.)

So, maybe they tried to improve the previous situation with the patch on 15th November and thought it would be solved, so they claimed whatever they claimed in the patch notes.
Maybe this messed up – not only the champ/ vet loot – instead it affected also the open world foes. Suddenly player had issues with their loot (because they got less kill credit → less loot).

The wooden chests are another problem….

However, it seems that no one can follow my thoughts.. I will wait until they fix the kill credit issue, probably it will fix the other loot problem, too. ^^

The no credit for kills might be part of the issue, I am going around levelling a character, and I notice some kills I am not getting XP for, despite the combat log being full of attacks.

This is just one example where I didn’t get XP for a kill.

@Navi – I have been agreeing with you and bringing this same thing up in a couple of threads on this issue. Suggesting that not only the vet/champ kill credit is not working properly but that regular loot could also be effected.

In fact many many pages back in this thread I recall myself and another discussing the strange issue that killing faster results in better loot and sometimes more of it.

I am certainly going to be keeping track of this in the future, the best I can with the combat log, especially when soloing vets/champs.

This is a good example of why open world PvE is so unrewarding. Although I will say that the CoF p1 is like, the fastest dungeon run.

Regardless, even if it took 20 minutes to complete CoF p1 which is more average for an explorable path, it would still yield 10+ times the reward than the open world boss fight.

I find open world PVE most rewarding, at least events anyway. But not so much just vets/champions.

You mention Risk vs Reward in your post, and while i agree open world events need a boost in reward, I don’t think they should be equal or very close to equal with dungeon rewards.

In a typical dungeon, you have 5 people versus overpowered, overhealthed mobs, fighting to get through it, most of the time dying a few times, and even completely having the party wipe at times.

In open world events, especially popular ones(see: ones with the best loot) you have a mass zerg of people quickly handling what is thrown at them with very little risk, or strategy involved. When(if) someone is downed, the mob of players quickly revives, making it so that a player can ,almost, watch t.v. while mashing an auto attack button and moving a little when the big attacks come.

The risk versus reward doesnt add up.

Using a specific dungeon path as an example isn’t evidence to raise rewards everywhere, i’m pretty sure we all know CoF path 1 isn’t intended to be farmed so easily, and when compared with any other dungeon, the rewards for that specific path are very much ‘out of whack’.

Again, not saying open world loot doesnt need a boost.

My two cents.

wait a minute, in your video you are saying ‘’asking us for a proof’’ it looks like definately they dont even play the game or the quality or wtv guys which test dont do…anything.

this is very well known, but…this was like they wanted it, they made it like this, i even remember they removing the grubs from giants because wasnt as intended…when what we were doing was ‘’farm mobs’’ i mean…what is farm/grind in the eyes of anet if they trully ‘’we dont want you to farm / grind ’’ then apply the spvp system in everything…althought i consider spvp a mini game joke…i just laugh hah ahah aha hah a (yeah iam sorry)

but yeah, at the end there is nothing new here

@toxianguardian.4850 dungeons arent hard at all, besides hes speaking about ‘’time invested’’ too
