Personaly, I don't think Dailies are a good idea
I get my dailies just by playing the game the way I want to.
You typically have 25 aquatic kills in a day or interrupt however many times……….
The idea that dailies are something you get from just playing the game is false, you actually have to go out of your way to complete at least part of it. It may not take long but you wont just get it purely from playing the game.
Monthlies are different, I got my monthly already from just playing the game and without going out of my way to complete anything.
I have received the 25 aquatic kills on occasion through normal play (fractal underwater for example). When I don’t, I hit up the Asuran starter area by the level 3 heart there is a lake. You can kill the inquest there quite easily at level 80. Takes a cpl minutes.
The interrupt thing has definitely happened by normal play.
50 kills by normal play.
Champion slayer by normal play.
Veteran/Event in <area> sometime by normal play, sometimes I go out of my way.
Gatherer by normal play.
Fractal by normal play.
Jumping puzzle I go out of my way, but takes a minute or two.
Feast partially by normal play, spam eat for remainder.
Crafter I never do, but some may find it normal.
Mystic Forge I never do.
Brawler I never do.,
I think that is all the dailies?
To sum up:
5 out of 12 are completed easily via normal play
3 out of 12 can be completed via normal play, but may require going out of your way
3 out of 12 I personally never do
1 out of 12 is partially completed by normal play
Total estimated time to complete dailies after playing normally in an evening? 10 minutes.
EDIT: I forgot about Daily dodger. This one can easily happen via normal play too. I once tried to force it by fighting a lvl 3 mob for a bit and dodging it’s attack.s. That was painfully slow, but if you do not think about it you easily get the dodges in one log-in.

The game is designed to make you feel obligated to login and to make you feel behind like a mouse on a wheel. That’s what MMO’s do. It’s not casual, it’s never casual.
That being said this game is more casual friendly than most. Although I do agree that the token/currency system in this game is massively flawed. Makes many things that I would like unavailable to me. That’s ok though. It’s about picking and choosing. I know I’ll never be the same as those that can login for a gazillion hours a week. It’s unpossible.

To OP, then don’t do dailies? There are other ways to get ascended items if you feel you want them. I have some characters w/o any ascended items, have multiple sets of exotics, not locked into one set of stats thus having the right stats for the right situation.
Dailies are dailies, some of us have been doing them long before the carrots were added. They were useful for finding where other players were being active and looking for meta groups especially in mid-lvl zones. Like when a daily was useful for hinterlands, there would be more people there doing the meta, which meant groups and more drops. Now, even more people there but less concerned about grouping for better drops, just there to fulfill a daily and get the reward.
So it’s not dailies that are bad, it’s the reward as it draws too many people that want nothing but to fulfill the requirements for the reward. While when it was w/o reward, it just presented a hot-spot to find groups and gain better benefits from the events themselves.
So for me, I still do dailies, but I just take the quickest path to finishing them, then go look for groups elsewhere as the original experience of doing dailies w/o reward has been cheapened and not worth my time any longer.
edit: not only that, but back then there was no assured rare at the end, you just kept doing it and maybe get a rare or two from a number of runs (not that that was the reason why). Groups tended to last longer, doing multiple runs, adding players as openings occurred. Now, if there happens to be a group, they are there to fulfill the daily as well as get their one time run rare, then the group breaks, they all leave.

That’s why I think they need to get the pvp more competitive and add more modes instead of using dailies. Dailies will end that day, but competition is really what keeps people wanting to play. Just look at Cod, it’s really popular because it involves competition that rewards you on playing well. That may be a horrible example… but I think it makes sense.

Yep, I agree. PvP needs more competition. A lot more.
In the way that it creates a sense of obligation, yes it’s a bad idea. The reason behind its inception however, is a good idea.
But regarding the bad idea part, that is simply contrasted by the limited number of ways to get laurel rewards at the moment and the limited ways to get laurels. The more options we get in the future, the less “bad” this idea will become.
Dailies are horrible. In every game. The fastest way to make a game go from fun to a job…is adding dailies. And if you add a daily that rewards a currency type that is attainable in no other way…it’s just plain kitten poor design.
Anything that forces players to feel like the MUST log in DAILY or fall behind on their quest for whatever they want is terrible. When I get home from a long day at work, finish dinner, put the kid to bed, and feel like kicking back and watching a little TV or reading a book before bed…but suddenly remember “Oh Crap, I have to log in and get my daily for that stupid Laurel”…I get overcome with a desire to punch someone. Well, ok, not overcome :-)…but seriously, who thinks this is a reasonable way to treat the player base?
I’m sorry…that came out more rant-like than I intended…but the whole idea of dailies just makes me angry.
Give 30 laurels or 40 laurels or whatever you want for the monthly and just give gold and exp and karma for the stupid dailies already. Or 7 for weeklies that can be finished in a single play session.

dailies are very easy to complete if you go WvW. i rolflmao if i see daily categories are : events, veterans, mist caravan disruptor, gatherer, crafter,mystique forge smith, kill mist invader, champion slayer.

2) Dailies are far from the most efficient way to earn ascended gear or earn money.
3) Dailies exist to provide casual players with a rewards system, as well as to serve as a system for directing players towards general areas.

But i have been doing dailies for fun since August 2012. You are only doing it for “stats”? Thats your problem. No wonder it isn’t fun for you. You know you dont get much “stats” from dailies compared to Fractals and guild missions, right?

However, at some point the metrics became alarming because a large number of players raced through everything, got what there was to get, stopped logging in and loudly demanded more. So, yeah, ANet’s focus changed because a portion of their customer base asked for it.
Many game developers try to please as many of their players as possible. Maybe they shouldn’t have tried to do so, but that is business. In general, businesses that don’t listen to their customers don’t thrive.
I think it’s a pity that many people define fun in MMO’s as acquisition and that still more feel that the speed at which they acquire is all-important. I guess it’s just old-fashioned to think that fun is what’s important in a game.

The day people realize it will be the day a number of people will stop logging in, and then Anet will make you NEED to have ascended to do content to bring back the players.

As I’ve said before some people will leave over this, if they can’t get it or cant’ get it fast enough, but most will stay. What a lot of people are looking for is the illusion of being better, whether they need it or not. They just want to see numbers go higher. It means they are “progressing”.
So if you’re stuck in that mindset, it’s likely you’ll be happy to pursue that particular carrot. I won’t, but you’re welcome to it if you need it.

People who want BIS gear don’t want it because they need it. Some people are getting it because they want BIS gear and they know they don’t need it. They want it anyway. And some people, no matter what you say, will never believe it.
Some guy beats you in WvW. I bet he had ascended gear. That’s why he beat me. If I had ascended gear, I’d have beat him. It’s not going to be true most of the time, but some people will think it anyway.
Lets all use Masterwork gear and white weapons! The quiver skin is nice…
I took a look at the daily options today and it didn’t look too easy for me to pick up my five. I decided not to bother and I went about my merry way leveling up my thief.
I hit the daily kill one easily. Got the gathering one not too long after. Got the condition removal one, hooray for Hide In Shadows. By the time I’m done running around stabbing bandits for the evening, I hit a stretch of river full of skelks, hylek, and salmon. A few extra minutes swimming up and down and there’s the aquatic and ambients. Bam, I’ve got my daily just as I’m ready to call it a day.
And that, IMO, is the neat thing about Dailies. I never feel like I have to horribly go out of my way to complete them. Now, whether this will change once I’ve finished my primary goal of getting 100% map completion and start settling into other in-game pursuits, I can’t say. Right now, though, it does fit a nice balance with my leveling progress.

I gotta agree and I literally haven’t even looked at my dailies for a few weeks; not out of some protest, or anything, but simply because I can’t be bothered. I’m always in WvW and I just can’t find the motivation to look at the daily and complete it. Maybe if they added some cool skins, I’d be more inclined to this stuff. Meh..

Seriously, you dont need to do them. A character in level 80 yellow gear (which cost a few gold or dungeon runs) is already an “endgame” capable character. Getting a few exotics after that is easy.
Before they introduced laurels the reward was more kittenty XP and everybody alkready did dailys then. Its really only improved.
45mins should be more than enough.
Still too much. That’s sometimes the max. I want to play at a given day.
MMO’s are probably not the game for you if you can only play less than 45mins at a time. I rarely even get started after talking to friends on vent a checking what dailies I feel like achieving that night before 45mins has past.
I would hate to rush around trying to accomplish dungeon’s, fractals, dailies etc if I only had less than 45mins to play the game. I now understand the reason to your complaints. I don’t think they are going to be able to fix it for people like you unfortunately.

What is funny is that the person who lost (like OP) is now trying to stop people from getting ascended gear instead of working to get ascended get themselves.
Another interesting fact is that they decided that they are superior (because they wont lose if not for the ascended gear) because they refuse (or cant/wont) invest the time on the game.
I have been able to beat 2 players hunting others on jumping puzzles by my self without food on WvWvW with exotic gear and 6 masterwork trinkets/back. Perhaps they were over confident with their numbers. They probably think i have ascended gear rather than admit they suck, =p

If the ONLY way you have fun is getting BIS gear on EVERY toon, and that’s it….then MMOs generally might not be for you, since in most games, getting BIS gear is far far more time consuming than in this one.
Anyway, why is it that you have to have every single toon in BIS gear this year? What’s the rush? What will happen if you don’t?
How do you know that there won’t be ten other ways to get BIS gear long before the year is up?

You don’t have to do the daily.
There is no NEED for you to.
If you feel you NEED to do something and are compelled to do it even though it isn’t really a rational reason, yes you have a psych issue.
You don’t need to do the daily. If you want to do the daily to get the best gear, that is different, that is a want not a need. There is no need to punish those of us that like the daily and don’t mind waiting to get the gear after we’ve accumulated enough stuff to turn in.
There is so much stuff I want to do that I like the daily. I can get my earrings by laurels or guild missions. Yea, you have gated time there also unless you belong to multiple guilds. I can run other stuff like a few fractals and CoF before doing some WvW because of the daily and move on to other stuff. I’ll get some of it later.
Why must you have instant gratification? Why can’t you wait? It isn’t necessary to have ascended gear and the developers have said they are adding variety of ways to get gear.
Finally, it is so easy to do the daily that…well….you people have bigger issues if you have to complain about the daily.

Anet wants you to play the game for a long period of time, so they will ration the time it takes for you to get your stuff. Same principle why guild commendations are once a week only.

Square-Enix isn’t trying to populate a world. MMO companies are. They make business decisions that they think are good for the game. They don’t make business decisions to insult your independence.
If making a daily is going to get people into the game every day, arguably, that’s good for the game, as long as the percentage of people who don’t like them is small enough. Since it’s good for the game, I’m for it (because I’m enjoy the game and want it to do well).
Naturally some people could become totally fed up and leave, which often happens in MMOs. The trick is to make sure the group that’s leaving is smaller than the group that’s staying and, hopefully, happy.

Nah, those are boss events. Those are a precursor lotto. Something that is also not needed to do yet people want to run them for a precursor chance.
Give me a list to choose from to get more jugs of karma that I won’t use as well as more laurels that I will use.

I do think weeklies would be better than dailies. I also think we need the dailies, if not replaced by weeklies, to always have 5 of 11 choices that can be accomplished via normal PvE world play. i.e. keep the current 5/9 varieties, but add to constants, Heart Completion and (any where) Dynamic Event completions, to make it 5/11. Gathering, Heart Completion and DEs, (non-zone specific) would be available every day, with the others rotations providing more specific achievements.
I think this would make it a lot easier for people to finish dailies by just playing where ever they want in the game world and loosen up the feeling that dailies are just a “job” or about jumping through hoops that interfere with the freedom the game offers.

Again with the adult thing. Yes all criticism is legitimate. But all legitimate criticsm isn’t necessarily better for the game. People “shout down” in your words, the OP because they disagree with his opinion. They don’t want the game changed in that way because having the game this way is better for them.
The OP, on the other hand, wants what he wants. Why is is criticism allowed, but their criticism not.
This issue has zero to do with being an adult. It has to do with what is or isn’t best for the game. I’m not sure most of us are in a position to know that.
