Achievements are just for fun. Laurels aren’t an end all reward so it really doesn’t matter. I will take someone on my dungeon run if they are wearing green gear. I don’t care. This game doesn’t work like that.

I don’t agree with all the stuff people want from Map Completion and a Legendary. The Map Completion nets you a title and a shiny badge next to your name tag and two items for a Legendary Weapon. What more do you need? The Legendary is the reward itself. It also gives a nice badge at the load screen for YOU to enjoy PERSONALLY. If you are chasing anything more than that, it’s my opinion that you are doing it wrong.

This guy is misinformed. What they have said is that eventually all achievements will be given rewards, which will work retroactively, they did not specifically say those rewards would given in the form of laurels. And in fact, when someone asked that, they stated that as of then, that was not the plan.

I see so many complaining about achievement points these days and I dont understand why! Doing a daily for 25/29/whatever points doesnt make it nearly six times more important than equipping a legendary! Achievement points are just random numbers assigned to achievements that are designed to boost up your total points. It doesnt matter that some give less points because im pretty sure the majority that are playing the ‘achievement game’ arent doing it for total achievement points, theyre doing it to complete all achievements themselves. Hell, just do Entropy if youre interested in total points!

Achievement points aren’t suppose to have a point. They just prove you did something in the game that’s considered of some value.

What did you think achievements were about originally?

They’re just there for face value, dude. There’s no deeper meaning, and any that is added is entirely ANet’s choice to do so.

You lost them because of the fixed HoM achievement exploit.

Also, I agree that the way achievement points are granted is so backwards. They are so worried about casual players being left behind, even with something as useless as these points, that they suck the prestige out of every nook of their game. But it makes sense in the sense that casuals are typically the loosest with their money. Another example of pay2prestige. Which is fine I guess, if you’re in to that kind of thing.

It’s not a question of " achievement points meaning something " but of logic. Why is PvE daily giving 25 pts and PvP monthly giving 7 points only ??

Aside, what’s the difference between someone farming queensdale 1 hour per day and someone who got all achievements ( let’s say almost all), but who isn’t caring much on daily ?

Personnaly i do not mind, but i think 25 pts is too much compared to other achievements..

None yet, but that’s the point. Anet said they are adding a reward system that uses your achievement points. If you work hard for 6 months to get a bunch of achievement points only to be beaten out in 3 days of someone doing a daily that takes 30 minutes it just kind of sucks. We just want some consistency between effort and points.

I had no trouble earning my dungeon sets. I was getting BIS gear, I was getting cool skins, I was playing with other people in a co-operative environment that was balanced for player skill, even the easy dungeons are rewarding experiences, especially compared to Orr. I had a story behind where I got my armour, it had context, flavour, a place in the world of Tyria. I was gathering a variety of sets for a variety of play styles and builds and I was doing this, for the most part, at my own pace and with a reasonable time goal.

I am sick and tired, so sick and tired, of FotM. That same paths over and over again hoping to get a ring (and then hoping that ring isn’t a trash MF one I’ll only use to give an alt AR). I am seriously getting worn out on FotM dailies, I grin and bear it at this point. I already feel this way about my dailies. FotM is buggy and rarely counts as an event, so that daily is a chore to fill, gatherer can’t be done in FotM or dungeons, so I run around some low level zone blowing Orichalcum picks for some arbitrary requirement, the list goes on. If I want to step away from the game for a day, I know I’m one more day away from my amulet. When I have multiple characters to equip, I feel pressured to make sure that I’m in the game every single day, jumping through hoops. It feels horrible now. I was playing almost every day before FotM and before laurel dailies, I enjoyed it, I was not bored. I felt free to do what I wanted to do and often played for long periods of time. Now I begrudgingly do my daily to get my ring roll and PR no matter how bored I’ve become of that dungeon. It feels like work every time I load into the dredge fractal. I find NPCs to res and copper to mine to get my laurel. Then I’m annoyed with the game and I log out.

The recent changes to the game, the limited options for ascended gear and the dramatic grind and calendar gating is adding too much pressure to log in daily and it’s creating a situation where I no longer feel like I can play how I want, where I want or when I want. These items are so much harder to get than the old ones (10 days for a ring, compare that to a complete dungeon set – and most, if not all, dungeons are much harder than FotM lvl 10). I have several exotic dungeon sets on my ranger. I have exotic dungeon sets on all my level 80 toons (I have five level 80s, some with more than one armour set). I used to gather sets and experiment with builds and play styles. It was a lot of work for a whole dungeon set, but it wasn’t too bad and it was worth it to access a slew of new build options for my character. Now, I log in, do my two dailies, get very little (or nothing) for my work until 10 or 30 days later, and I don’t get to play where I want to play. I’m constantly looking at a daily tab to check on the requirements I have left, I have never naturally completed one, I’ve always had to grind it out, search it out, tick it off like some nagging list.

What if I want to play my ele today? I can’t because I want ascended rings and I haven’t bothered to grind my elementalist through 10 levels (that’s like 30+ different paths before I even start getting the items I want). I need to play my ranger if I want my daily ring roll and my relic.

I know dailies are optional (playing the game is optional) and ascended gear is optional, but for someone who enjoys building strong characters and aims for BIS gear, the value of doing a daily is too much to ignore. It’s also so tedious and boring that it feels like a chore, but it’s too valuable (and calendar gating puts such a high opportunity cost of not logging in that day) to not diligently ensure you do it if you want to attain your item in any reasonable time, let alone equip a second character (or god forbid you want to experiment with a different build and thus a different amulet or ring).

Now I actually like playing GW2. I enjoy levelling alts or running dungeons, trying new builds, getting new gear and generally just exploring the world. I don’t feel like I have the time to do that any more now that dailies are becoming more and more prominent. They are the sole source of ascended items, they are calendar gated to take the decision of when I play out of my hands (I might have time for four FotM runs on Saturday, but no time for a run on Monday-Thursday, I can still only get one daily on Saturday, same for the daily achievement) and I rather than rewarding me for logging in and playing that day, I am logging in and ticking the list off because I wouldn’t complete it otherwise. If I decide to do what I want to do that day, and which character I want to do it on, there is a very good chance I won’t get my FotM daily or my daily achievement. If I decide to take a day away from the game (or two days) I am two days behind on my incredibly long laurel grind, with no other way to get the amulet or laurels.

I feel like dailies dictate when and where I play these days.

Dailies are meant to give inspirational direction when/if you don’t already have something to do…
And it’s totally needed when there are players out there who went and got 100% map completion without a month.

The only thing I think ANet needs to do about this is give us an option to hide the stupid event tabs.
Be it personal story, dailies, hearts, or whatever, we shouldn’t have to see them if we don’t want to.

The only post about this is over a month old (months maybe, i don’t recall), and its only excuse is that players would have a hard time opening it again. Which is a pretty silly excuse with maybe ways to work around it.

The visual effect of having that tab sitting there shouldn’t be underestimated. For a lot of players, it’s like an OCD box waiting to be checked off.

GW2 is still the best MMO out there, even though PvE was turned into very traditional MMO fetch questing, gear-treadmill and content gating, even thought Anet touted that GW2 would never have such things.

But hey, I paid only $60 for this.
I played 1000 hours of non-traditional content before I realized the PvE endgame is classic blizzard fetch questing (dailies), gear grinding (fractals), plus I still have the PvP so it’s fine for me.

On top of it all, my highest fractal level is not translated to other characters so I can’t break the monotony of doing the fractal with the class that has access to fractal weapon drops and infused rings. So….no ability to switch to alts to freshen the game.

The new dailies are great and they will be even better when they implement the ability to pick and choose from the daily achievement list to complete the day.

For people with less play time, dailies offer some direction for 20-60 minutes of play time for which they can earn progress towards a tier of rewards they would not be able to earn otherwise. For people who have more time to play, progress is likely to be made on most of the list just by playing as they normally play, with only a slight detour to fill in anything they’ve missed before the end of each day.

If you can’t do your dailies every day, big deal. Do them when you can and you’ll eventually have enough laurels to get what you want. The monthlies only require you to complete five dailies, making that element one of the easiest achievements on the monthly list.

I’ve done my dailies both ways, either knocking them out in a concentrated session, or just playing the way I normally play for a few hours and taking 20 minutes to finish up things on the list I’ve missed. I really don’t see the downside here and I really appreciate what Arenanet is doing here.

Also, remember that Arenanet will also eventually start awarding additional Laurels based on Achievement Points earned. They haven’t announced the exchange rate yet, but if they find the sweet spot, then Dailies may not provide the majority of Laurels in a month for active players, which would be great for the game and it’s players.

I understand your problem and i feel the same way from time to time. you need to realize that you can not have it all.

some people state that gw2 is a grindy game. and it is true for them and you who do not want to settle on one character. who want to maximize their potential.

for the causual player that sees legendaries and ascended gear as what they are it is not a grindy game.

we are talking about gear that is considered between exotic and legendary. Of course i want to have them but i made peace with it that only the most dedicated players or – even better – guilds are able to make these things happen. and still not in a matter of days or weeks.

the laurel system is great – yes if you do not play everyday it sucks – but the punishment for it is all in your head.

If feel exactly the same way as OP. :/

The reality is that gear makes an immense difference in WvW, so the daily grind is unfortunatly mandatory as it is now, if you want to be able to continue to play.

Unfortunately this is how they want you to play the game. That is why I have not and will not step foot in the fractals.
People kittened and moaned that there was no progression – so now you have it.
I dont see the issue – they all wanted gated grinded +1 gear and got it.

No this game wasnt sold as that and anet sold out their principles and those players left right after but who cares.

When the expansion comes out I stop playing. Play their way or dont play at all.
And no this game is made for the casual and ALL Equipment and Gear is made available that is the issue. Forcing you into a single a build and grinding to get that gear is bad game dev.

No they don’t.. Nobody makes you do them. They only feel like a chore cause you make them into a chore. They are there to give you something to do… Too many times I have read people crying there’s nothing to do. Most of those dailies can be done by just normal play.

You can do wvwvw in exotics just fine, you dont NEED ascended. Sure its nice, but its not an absolute must and when you are zerging, it really makes little difference. And if your roaming solo, then thats on you. If your roaming a 5 man, again exotics are just fine. I really think you guys just really WANT to have ascendeds and it shouldn’t take you a month to get the gear, it should take you a while, like legendaries are supposed, like everything is supposed to. This game you can gear up in full exotics 1 to 80 in like 2 weeks or less. Now all the sudden a new tier comes out and you HAVE TO HAVE it, well then you know how to get it, so guess what? Thats what ya gotta do if you have to have the absolute best gear in the game or whatever.

Immense difference in wvw? No. Slight? Yes.

Geez….qq.
