Log in and chop down 5 trees, salvage some junk i had to go get off low level mobs, maybe do a boring easy dungeon, and talk to the laurel vendor. I then receive my anet issued 1 laurel per day. Then Proceed to find a group for fractals a dungeon I have run 9001 times so I can have a shot at a ring and my anet issued 1 pristine relic per day. Look down at my keyboard and think well guess i have no reason to be online anymore till tomorrow, but hey in 2 months ill have a piece of jewelry that is 5% better than the one that took me 5 minutes to get.

This is the endgame in GW2… doing dailies. Who would of thought a company could take one of the worst things introduced in world of warcraft and build a game around it.

Are they ever going to make this game interesting past leveling up and exploring?

Only thing that got me REALLY excited about this game was the dragon fights in gw2. I remember a friend showing me that big black dragon fight on a youtube clip and I swore to be devoted to GW2 forever. The game is not bad, but it lacks excitement. Mind blowing events.

Maybe if this was RIFT or AION etc… This game IS the sequel to Guild Wars, how can a game claim to be sequel yet emulate nothing but lore from the original? I would of been happy with them re creating GW1 on this engine and adding an expansion worth of content on top of that. They would of had to have done 1/4th the work and would have 4x the game they have now.

You may be right about that. The problem is even with us telling them what’s wrong, only a fraction of the people getting tired or fed up with the broken aspects of the game actually tell them why they are quitting. Most people just quit, and it really doesn’t do any good if Anet doesn’t know why they left.

I vote they email every player a optional survey of the following questions..

Are you pleased with the balance of the game ? 1-5
*small dialog box of what you find imbalanced

Are you satisfied with the amount of content ? 1-5
small box of what you find lacking

Are you happy with the current state of the game ? 1-5
box of why you’re happy or not happy

Are you still playing ? yes/no

What would it take to make you play again?
dialog box for what would bring you back

final dialog box for additional feedback

seriously though, you get those daylies for playing the game. If you don’t enjoy playing any aspect of the game, this game is not for you. Last week I got my daylies for basically doing WvW only. On an other day I didn’t do much besides dungeons.

complaining here basically means you have no idea how to play the game (don’t do daylies actively, just let them “happen”), as cliche as it sounds ^^

I don’t understand how peoiple have to “go for dailies”. You mean you don’t gather as you’re running by stuff anyway? You mean you don’t end up killing 50 things while just running around? You mean to tell me crafting something or visiting a laurel vendor taks you so far out of your game.

I call BS. These things mostly happen naturally. Maybe at the end of my play session I have to finish one in a couple of minutes, but usually I finish the daily without even thinking about it.

And no I don’t think you’re playing wrong. I think you’re exhausted all the content. It’s like any game when you’ve exhausted the content. You get bored. How many hours have you played OP?

What I’m saying is that the endgame IS dailies not that I feel forced to do them. The best gear in the game is obtainable ONLY through dailies.

Theres just no rewarding challenging content in this game.

There is a single JUST ONE boss in the game that requires having a team with a IQ higher than 20 to kill (lupi) other than that you can clear all PvE content with your eyes closed. WvWvW is a mockery of what real RvR should be (DAoC). SPvP can be fun, but there is no reward system or tournament / season brackets etc… theres no incentive to put together a great 5 man of friends and see how far you can go. Most every time I played in or started a SPvP premade it was us wiping the floor with disorganized pugs (not exactly fun esp if you on the other end which I have been plenty).

Using again a game as an example that many of us myself included loathe, WoW has heroic raid content (weres our hardcore dungeon difficulties with rewards pertaining too?) Arena Seasons (we have playing the same map all week for chests containing gear skins that we already have in 100x duplicate by 2 days of playing).

Maybe this game isn’t for me, but its the best MMO out there right now so I’ll stay here and kitten and moan until something better does come out, maybe something will come of it…most likely not.

Not everyone plays the same as you though.

Why assume everyone is running around areas randomly, doing dailies along the way? Everyone’s play style is different. Not everyone is constantly running around zones randomly to do their dailies as they come about. And not everyone can play for hours straight, just picking up their dailies as they go.

Some people are only running dungeons. They have to go out of their way to do dailies. Or those in WvW or SPvP. They have to do the same thing. Or how about those that only have a couple hours to play a day? They have to go out of their way to get it done before they log off.

For those that want the best gear in the game, they have to do the dailies every day to get it. And most the time for those people, they have to go out of their way to do it. So in order for them to progress, they have to do dailies. Which ends up being their “endgame” cause it’s the only way to get the gear.

So while you spend all your time roaming around the world randomly, taking care of your dailies at a leisurely pace, others are having to go out of their way to get them done so they can progress. We don’t all have the luxury of time, nor do we all have the same play style.

Or those in WvW or SPvP.

SPvP has it’s own daily category. So just by playing SPvP you will get your daily. By playing just WvW you can get 3/5. You can also gather in W3, which would be 4/5. Then that last one is visiting a laurel, salvaging some stuff, crafting or something similar and all of that fifth daily can be done in W3.

This world needs more people being frank and less people being offended.

If you don’t have the luxury of time – then prioritize.

Why can’t you play much? If if you have something to do that is important (ie: study, work, bond with family..) then deal with it.

ANet should not modify the game to cater everyone’s playstyle. The game is casual enough to make each other competitive without having the top tier gear.

Now if you really want the BiS gear, make time. If you can’t because of whatever priorities, deal with it. It’s how the world works.

People now sounds like entitled “I want this but it doesn’t fit my style, modify it to fit my style”. I mean, dude, there are certain sacrifices that one should make in order to get what someone wants.

I would use me as an example: I want a legendary. Not just those easy to get, but I specifically want the Twilight or Flameseeker. For me, that’s my endgame. I don’t have time, I have work. I have little time to play weekdays. Do I whine about how hard it is getting them? No. I deal with it. I have other important things to do. I play when I can, thus get what is equal to the time I played.

you gotta know what you want to play, and how you play it.
play it at a slower pace,,.. relax,.. do what you like when you feel like it, and skip those boring dailies if it seems to be to much of a hassle to do..
I’m sure from time to time, anet will release more content for this game..
those take time to make, and when it did finishes, new and fresh adventure begins..
if you feel that most of the existing content is kinda boring, then maybe you should play other games in the mean while…
I see nothing’s wrong with playing more games other than only gw2.. keep things fresh..
once you get over the Bis part of the game.. you can create your play time that really suits you.. instead of rushing to finish everything.. and get burnt out afterwards

I have the luxury of time, I was just using it as an example. But I will try to answer as best as I can.

The thing with your “deal with it” analogy, is that nothing would ever change. Should those that want harder content, just deal with it cause the game doesn’t cater to their play style? Should those that dislike all the RNG just deal with it, cause the game doesn’t favor their opinion? If everyone just “dealt with it”, then nothing will ever get changed and no one would be happy. Everyone’s feedback is just as important as the next person. The game should always offer an alternative for different play styles.

But dailies go against that idea. Locking gear behind a time-gated content doesn’t cater to different styles. There are no alternatives, it is the only way to obtain the gear. There is no other way. While other options in this game have alternatives, dailies do not. They are a requirement for those that want the BiS gear.

We shouldn’t have to change our daily lives just to cater to a video game. There should be alternatives for players to do the things they want to do, instead of being gated behind a single thing in order for them to progress.

You don’t have to play for hours straight to do most of your dailies. This is ridiculous.

One day, the guild wanted to do a dungeon. By the time I was done with one dungeon, I had three dailies. Another time we were in WvW, just running around. I got two dailies, and I hasn’t even stopped to gather. These dailies are designed so you’re bound to get a couple of them, almost no matter what you’re doing (except SPvP which has it’s own daily). Anything else you do in the game, you’re likely to get a big head start on dailies.

Today we did a guild mission and I had 2 dailies by the time I was done. It’s not playing the game the way I play. It’s playing the game at all.

Hell, if all you do is follow the meta events, you’re bound to get dailies.

Personally I think dailies should be reworked on pve to be less objective. You should earn dailies from causally playing, not doing specific things.

In pvp for example, I always get my daily without really trying.

I recently stopped doing dailies. Too boring. And it turns out I didn’t need the gear to do well in WvW, which is the only thing capturing my interest at the moment.

Now that I’ve stopped, I don’t really login all that much any more. Sometimes I WvW with a couple friends for a little and then I go play other games.

It was a good 350 hours.

This is the endgame in GW2… doing dailies. Who would of thought a company could take one of the worst things introduced in world of warcraft and build a game around it.

Are they ever going to make this game interesting past leveling up and exploring?

Maybe this Daily Wars would be a minor issue if it wasn’t showed down the players’ throats. Maybe if checklist of menial tasks wasn’t a permanent feature of user interface. This is clearly what developers want you to do. This is how you get the best items in the game.

So dailies are not endgame, yet they are endgame? You are kind of contradicting yourself there. Endgame is different for everyone. Again, not everyone has the same play style. You have to accept the fact that we all play the game differently.

And really? You’re comparing an MMO to Skyrim? A single player game that is completely the opposite of an MMO? No comparison sorry. Two completely different games.

The end game isn’t the dailies. The end game is different for each person.

For some people, the end game is getting a legendary. That’s their focus. For some it’s getting the dungeon master title (which isnt’ all that easy for everyone, trust me on that. I only just finished mine). For some it’s getting a fractal skin, which is grinding the fractals. For some it’s WvW (and you can’t say it’s not). For some it’s even SPvP. We’ve just seen the establishment of the first Guild Wars 2 PvP league. That’ll be end game for some people.

Your end game may be dailies. To me, I have tons of stuff I’m still working on.

And in fact, I don’t even HAVE an end game and many other people who like this game don’t. It’s like this total fallacy that any game has to have “end game”. This is what people look for and talk about. Skyrim still has a whole bunch of players, but it has no end game, no PvP, no raids.

This game is like that. It’s a bunch of stuff to do. Some people decide what to do and to it. It’s a playground.

You’re looking for the game to lead you around by the nose and give you a goal. Some of us don’t like that at all.

I’m saying there is NO end game in the “traditional” sense of the word. It’s not a contradiction. If YOU make the dailies YOUR end game, then that’s the end game FOR YOU.

If I don’t make the dailies MY end game, it’s not the end game for me.

As opposed to say WoW or Rift where the end game IS raiding.

I’d much rather not have a game tell me what my end game is… or even have one at all.

As soon as people realise that there is no hard, pointy-ended purpose at the end of this game then the sooner they will be happier, or at the least more content, within the game.

Or they can take the other step.

If they are so easy to get that you don’t even have to try and you get them by simply playing the game, why even have them at all? Artificial content/progression?

Dailies are designed for people who don’t have a lot of time, to give them a way to get stuff like karma and ascended gear. That’s what they’re there for.

For someone that plays a couple of hours at a clip instead of every night, they can be a godsend. From the point of view of a harder core player they may seem to have no purpose.

Let’s not forget that there are plenty of people that only play a couple of hours a couple of times a week. For them two dailies during a week is 14,000 karma and a couple of laurels.

Topics like this one outline one of the biggest issues in GW2, imo. The content, the gameplay, on it’s own, just isn’t fun enough, you need a reward to even consider sticking around. That’s why some people feel like they’re being forced to do daylies. Because daylies are time gated and provide unique currency in this game which used to gear up your toons. As soon as you stop carrying for the gear, laurels, for the gold and ectos in this game… suddenly there’s no reason to log in anymore.

I wonder what happened to “making our core game/world as strong as possible blablabla” stuff? Where are all those “revamped dungeons and events”? It seems like the only thing we’re getting on a regular basis here is all kinds of mini games. Looks like AN truly thinks that this is what GW2 needs. Not skills and traits fixes, not class balancing, not re-worked meta events and dungeons, but yet another mini game for 1 month and re-skinned LA. All the loyal, actual, fan base will leave this mess as soon as another worthy game comes out, the only ppl AN will be left with is new comers who will stick around for 1 month and then create yet another topic on forums about “Why people stop playing GW2”.

This is the endgame in GW2… doing dailies. Who would of thought a company could take one of the worst things introduced in world of warcraft and build a game around it.

Actually, they built a game in which the endgame consisted of going anywhere in the world you wanted and doing whatever you wanted, from exploring to DE’s to meta-events to WvW to PvP. Players brainwashed by WoW into thinking that endgame = shinies complained there was no endgame. So, they gave them what they asked for.

No they didn’t. Doing DE’s and meta events doesnt get you “shinies”. It gets you a bunch of salvage and vendor junk.

If, for example, you got an ascended trinket for completing 1000 DE’s or maybe 100 World events..that would be at least something to do it for. Now, you are just doing it for the fun of standing ina group of 100 people and bashing a dragons kneecap for 3 minutes.

The deal-with-it was for this scenario. Now, who said that you will need to change your daily life with this?

I mean, again, if you could do it – do it. If you can’t because of some more important hindrance – well, you’ll have to choose.

It’s real life – you get to choose – you get to decide. You don’t try to complain when nothing is wrong and is working as intended. It’s not a bug – it’s a feature. If they are going to add more sources of Laurels, good. For now, if you want the ascended – divert your time a little to do dailies – most of which can be done in 20 minutes – which I doubt would destroy your entire day’s worth of playing.

There’s also no incentive for harder content. Sure you can point to fractals, but that’s more bullkitten difficulty than challenging stuff. Having a series of mobs who oneshot you and the rest of your crew isn’t fun difficulty, it’s artificial.

Where’s my achievement/title for 3manning CoE, or going through an arah path with no downs in the party?

Where’s the content for people who aren’t the casuals or the masses, the ones who put 2500 hours into this game?

Honestly, the only “challenging” content for me at this stage is hopping on lfg and finding a bad pug to see how tough they can make the dungeon for me.

I think people are used to bigger stats on items that drop and maybe also better skins. There are some better skins but they all required either farming or taking your time.

Wvw and pvp is your end game. If you don’t like either one, this game isn’t for you. Doing dailies has is merely and option and anet has not used this as their end game at all. Most people feel inclined to do it because they don’t want to miss out on the karma and laurels.

Just to add, gw2 has plenty of end game content, but like all games, you eventually complete them all and you’re kinda out of things to do. That is just “normal”. You can’t expect a game to continually pump out new dungeons every month and to some credit on anet, they HAVE been pumping out free content every month for you to do. Wait for an expansion if you’ve run out of things to do and you don’t enjoy playing pvp or wvw.

This game is only a grind if you make it a grind. I do t he dailies for the laurels, but if I don’t feel like doing it, I won’t. This game isn’t so demanding on gear such as other MMO’s. I’ll get my ascended gear through laurels, I’ll get the laurels when I feel like doing the daily. Of course, I say this because WvW is what I do for endgame.

What I’m trying to convey is that because the best gear in the game is only obtainable through dailies, it makes dailies “endgame”.

People in this thread are saying endgame is different for everyone, in essence it is but in MMO terms endgame refers to the most challenging content in the game. Its the accumulation of all you have achieved thus far and putting all that into play against the most challenging and rewarding content. Something that should be seen as a triumph, I don’t know about you but after doing 500 dailies and finally getting that necklace I don’t feel like i just did something amazing. I feel like “Well finally that’s over”. It’s annoying, and just not fun at all.

In Warhammer Online that “triumph” was finally besieging the other realms capital city. It happened maybe 1 or 2 times a week at best. And we were just happy to get there, it was a pipe dream to even think of making it to the other realms king let alone killing him (this was b4 they ruined the game). Back when WoW didn’t have any expansions there was Molten Core an abysmally hard raid that took forever before anyone actaully finished it (Im sure killing Ragnaros gave the same feeling as getting 30 laurels…). In DAoC we had massive keep sieges and dragon raids (dragon raids in gw2 are 100 people standing on a rock auto attacking a pinata till it drops a chest).

I mean I could go on forever, It seems like to cover up the fact GW2 has no endgame they tie ascended gear on the end of a stick called dailies and dangle it in front of us. And as long as people dont say anything and let it happen we will see yet another MMO with tons of potential go down the toilet, I already seen it happen with SWG and WAR, I dont want to see it happen again. Especially considering GW2 even with no endgame is better than anything out right now. And as far whats on the horizon it doesn’t look good either. We have Retconn Online (TESO) and literally WoW 2.0 (Wildstar).

seriously though, you get those daylies for playing the game.

If the dailies are a valid way to sum up what you do while ‘playing’ the game, ‘playing’ the game must be extremely boring.

It isn’t BS. There have been a fair number of dailies that I’ve looked at and decided it wasn’t enjoyable enough to bother with or that I wouldn’t be able to complete before the ticker changed. It isn’t unreasonable for those players that have a goal of getting something requiring laurels to dislike the fact that the dailies, which are often rote and tedious, are the only way to get laurels.

Just because someone’s experiences are different from yours does mean they’re lying about their experiences.

I know people like to say it only takes a few minutes to complete dailies, or that it’s so easy that it can be done while you’re not even trying to do it… But I have not found that to be the case at least for me.
Yes, there are days that the daily is very easy and is quickly obtained if you pay attention. But there are just as many days that they require you to move to other maps or do things you would not normally do. In the distant past it was a non-issue. Unless you were farming Karma, who cared?
We have laurels now and though it is not a requirement to obtain BiS gear, many people would like to obtain it in a reasonable amount of time. And if we want ascended gear then laurels is a must.
I have alts, lots of them. I play alts to mix it up and have some fun. I also play them in multiple areas of the game. So my main is wearing an amulet and I almost have enough guild commendations for the earrings. I took her to fractals for the first time recently and am having fun there, so rings are next.
I guess that my point is, my endgame is gearing everyone up in ascended so that I have some choices. If I want to take my necro to fractals or my ranger, I can. If my guild needs the guardian in WvW or forbid, the ranger, then I can. You can come here and tell me how the ascended equips are unnecessary for WvW or whatever other part of the game they aren’t required. Yet I see them as necessary especially since all my characters are going to go through fractals at some point. That also means that dailies are a must.
I don’t see dailies being a difficult grind but I really am tired of the overall time gating. Ascended, if they were ever really intended, should have been fully implemented from day one. Craftable for the ugly sector of armor/weapons, buyable with karma, laurels, or gold and acquired through loot drops in open world (albeit rare drops). Then and only then would I consider this a gear tier that was ‘intended’ from the start.

Incoming legion of fanboys to tell you this game isn’t for you and you are playing it wrong.

To answer your question: Maybe, but we the players have to keep being vocal about how displeased most of us are with the end game.

I agree, they mentioned something about a large rewards patch coming.

Not sure when but we have been talking in the forums about it possibly being something to do with salvaging, doing events like the temples in Orr, maybe something to do with karma vendors, no one knows at this point so it’s up in the air.

I’d love to see all of the above honestly. If they’d just open up vendors for karma like they had in the second beta where many of the rare items could be bought with karma it would definitely losen things up a bit. It would certainly release the stranglehold on the TP that these few all day all week auctioneers have on the economy.

As far as rewards someone in the suggestions forum suggested that PVE content like freeing the temples in Orr should give world bonuses to skills, I suggested why not skills and loot drops, that way more people would get involved in the areas we hardly see anyone in anymore like the mid level zones. If they improved those metas in those zones and made them matter to the rest of the PVE playerbase in bonuses and boons than we’d have the world filled again with players doing these things because the reward would directly reflect the time spent doing the things they already want us to do instead of farming.

It’s a good idea imo.

If you are logging in for a reward, and not to have fun enjoying a video-game, then its not a surprise that you don’t find the game fun.

What does any reward really provide you with? Something else to enjoy playing the game with. If you have already given up on playing for enjoyment then you are beating your head against a wall.

I’d like to add that there are plenty of things to do and ways to play that don’t limit you to grinding and farming for a reward.

Oh come on, almost everyone likes rewards. It’s in our nature. When we accomplish something, we’re used to geting rewarded. It’s as simple as your salary for your work, or being number #1 on a highscore list when you’re the best. It’s price money for winning, seeing the last bit of story when finishing a game or a random reward when finishing a quest in an rpg.

Sure, we also (should) like the gameplay in itself, but we are used to receiving rewards. MMOs basically condition us to expect rewards. Even GW2. “Do this and receive that”. Every heart quest, every random (world) event, every dungeon, fractals, even WvW and sPvP. Everything we do is rewarding. We expect it to be rewarding. Because that’s how such games have always presented themselves. Always. GW2 is no different.

It’s absurd to actually expect people not to play for rewards. when it’s usually THE MAIN feature of a game, present in each and everything that you do.

/e: Playing just for the sake of playing is rare. Even when you play <generic fps> online you try to win, you try to be better than the other one, because that’s the reward. The feeling of being superior, of being skillful. It’s the same.

Thats what single player games are for. If you honestly get more enjoyment out of GW2 personal story and single player elements over The Witcher 2 / Fallout NewVegas / Dark/Demon Souls etc… then more power to you I guess. People play MMOs for the online multiplayer experience of creating a character and getting loot rewards / skins / and constantly tweaking their build to be as good as possible for their playstyle, and putting those up against other plays in PvP and PvE content. So theres ALOT of character management / economic / meta stuff going on that you dont see in single player games.
