Only in Divinity’s Reach Crown Pavilion area this year. F2P players can only access it if they are level 10+. Everything looks pretty much identical to last year’s event.
There are trees around Crown Pavillion you can collect Wintersday Gifts daily and Snowman you can build for daily achievements. Ho-ho-ho is back as well and still accept donations.
This year you can buy those old weapon skins (princess wand etc) and wrap them up via the vendor to give them to orphans in exchange for karma. Wrappings cost around 500 karma and give 1500 karma back when you give the wrapped gifts to orphan

Tixx’s Infinirarium (5 man instance) is back along with Bell Choir, Snowball Mayhem, Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle etc. In Snowball Mayhem Revenants have their own unique skill like other classes. It is Vengeful Snowballs.

As an engineer main, this remains one of those things I’d love to see addressed…But the reality is we need the bulk of our own internal engineers (coders!) to continue to focus on stuff like our major WvW overhaul right now we’ve been working on for over a year that’s much higher priority for the game over-all.
Guys. Please don’t be derailing the thread by arguing over WvW or what someone said. The thread is about information on posts on other sites, not what some forum poster said on some other thread or other non topic discussions.

We don’t want to change how the Adrenal Mushrooms work in raids since it’ll be inconsistent with the open world. For now you’ll be able to interact with them on your run back to a boss, but they should never be right at the edge of the boss arena if possible.

The North American League is at an interesting cross roads. It might seem a little strange to highlight a match-up where both teams are 1-2, but this week’s featured match could very well change the landscape of the entire season. North America has, for over a year now, been known as the battleground for second place. The Abjured have reigned supreme, and teams are now clawing to snag the second place slot and gain entrance to the season finals. Never Lucky were written off by most after going 0-2 in the beginning of the season due to roster issues on multiple fronts, but this all changed after they swept fan favorites Apex Prime in week 3. If they’re able to defeat PZ in week 4, who by many are regarded as clear contenders for second place, it’s going to raise a lot of questions as to who where teams such as PZ, Final Form, NL, Apex, and Spoookie will net out at the end of the season.

Sooo… yeah. Someone did pick up the name even though it’s on the filter (I just tried making a character named Dios; got the ‘blocked by filter’ error). I’ll look into how someone got a name we dinged you for. That’s just not cool on our part.
Now, since we’re all here, this is a great time to talk about our naming policy and the recent changes in how support enforces it.
In the past; our team was very strict about what we’d allow. As an example we’d censored Girthquake Clamhammer. I love that name; personally. Funny as hell.
Poopy Cat Butt? Censored – too filthy. I Eat Farts? Eww, no.
Now? We’ll allow those. Did I mention funny as hell?
As my boss put it once -
“If dude wants to be known as cat poop that’s his problem; not mine”.
And that’s our philosophy now. This change has been evolving over the past few months as we get feedback on what the community does/doesn’t want to see in game. Essentially; if your name doesn’t express hate and doesn’t violate our game-rating we’re probably gonna let it live on. This includes deity names. Going forward you’re probably going to see Jesus Christ, God, and Allah running around Tyria.
Also; any bets on how fast someone claims the name “Cat Poop”?

I saw deity was wrong and thought about correcting it at the time, however if I’m quoting an ANet staffer, I don’t change anything. It’s as is. (If they correct it later and I find out then I’ll go back and change it, so thanks for the heads up).

The censor filter will get updated in the future. I have to manually update the list (on my schedule for this week) but it has to then travel through the dev cycle. I’m honestly not sure on the timeline for that part of the journey.
The Trading Post is having some problems at the moment, but ANet is aware of it.

Magnetite Shards
Bug fix that decreases drop amount
Bug that causes no shards to drop
I fixed a bug with the magnetite shards with this patch where the way that we award the shards when wiping didn’t fail correctly. This would sometimes give extra shards when wiping, and is also why parties would sometimes get shards the first time they wiped in the woods events or on the first attempt of the boss- they were getting failure rewards from their previous boss kill even though they killed the boss.
The intended design for Magnetite shards on failure is to get 1-3 based on how far you get in the encounter. Killing bosses awards significantly more, and Gorseval and Sabetha give higher rewards than Vale Guardian to reward actually going deeper into the raid instead of speed-running Vale Guardian for shards.
It seems like this bug may have been happening more often than I realized, and I’ll look at the rate of shard gain before and after the patch. We weren’t unhappy with the rate of shard rewards previously, so I’ll investigate adjusting the failure rates to be more generous if they’ve been significantly reduced.
And
I’ve been trying Sabetha today, we got under 25% two times and I got like 0 shards after all these tries. Something is definitely wrong
We are investigating this- I believe what may be happening that if the first person to load into the map has reached the weekly cap for shards, that is causing everyone else in the instance to also not get shards. I’ve sent this on to have a programmer look into it- it’s not something that I can fix myself, unfortunately.

Although I appreciate you lookin into this. What about the numerous other instances in the game which have the same problem? Such as breaking the (almost never appearing) crystal prisons of the Shatterer.
Well, certain things take very little time to figure out and fix (like this issue) and I can squeeze it in between other things I’m working on. The Lyssa temple stuff is an example of a thing that will take me a considerable amount more time to fix, so I can’t just fit it in. The shatterer stuff is a further wrinkle, because anything I do could conflict or interfere with something that someone else is working on, but the crystal thing is getting fixed. I just can’t say for certain when the fix will be out.

HOPE tier 4 charged spell trap
Hi guys, here’s the story : I just unlocked the last magic I needed (the Karka queen’s one) and the Charged Dwarven Trap won’t unlock.
I mentioned this in another thread, but in the next release if you have all the magics, but not the charged trap, you’ll be able to double-click the spell trap to get the charged version.
Legendary Bugs: Some things I’ve done
Hello all!
I’ve been working out a few bugs for the legendary collections, and just wanted to let you all know how things stand.
Assuming everything goes as scheduled, when Wintersday turns off (1/12) the following things will be in:
Dwarven Spell Trap: if you have collected all of the magics, but it hasn’t “charged” you can double-click it to charge it
Temple of Dwayna: there are 2 collectibles for capturing the temple of Dwayna, Malchor’s Notes (Bolt I) and Malchor’s Demise (Twilight I). Defending the temple will also grant these items.
Magnificent Lens: Defending the “Gates of Arah” will also grant this collectible
Any collectible where you need to charge something at a place of power will now give priority to that over charging quartz. This wasn’t really a blocker, but it was pretty annoying.
Here are some things that I’m working on, but didn’t feel comfortable with my changes until I can get someone else to look at them. It has been a few years since I worked on events, so in the spirit of not messing up other people’s work, I’d like to get another set of eyes. There is a chance that can happen on Monday, and if so we could see these as soon as 1/12, otherwise it will take a little longer:
Branded Siege Devourer: it will take me much longer to untangle this event chain and figure out why it is stalling, but what I’d like to do in the mean time is add the drop to the Giant Branded Devourer in Fields of Ruin. Unfortunately, as I was getting that worked out I noticed that event only starts on another event failing. I’m reworking the chain slightly, but I need someone else to double-check and make sure I’m not breaking something else.
Hope IV: Risen Crystalline Phial: what I’m trying to do is make the wraith spawn more reliably, and without having to stall the event for a long time. Again, I just need a second set of eyes to make sure I’m not introducing new bugs.

Can we keep this on the topic? Not to squelch your thoughts, but to give greatest value to a helpful thread, where other topics can be discussed in an alternative thread?

I don’t have an ETA on a fix for this any sooner than the next raid release since it’s a very time consuming issue to fix and needs to be tested.

Really awesome to see this thread. I do check the live bug forums every day and haven’t seen any of these issues appear so this is the first time I’m hearing about some of them.
Players getting stuck outside of the arena When the Vale Guardian fight starts, someone can step out of the arena and be unable to get back inside.
I don’t consider this to be a bug persay. If you’re not paying attention or engaging the boss, yes you could accidentally step outside the boss ring. We could do some improvements to its aggro behaviour so that you can get in closer before pulling and then have the wall snap up immediately when the event starts instead of having a delay. This would probably fix that issue somewhat (also paying attention fixes the issue as well). We have code coming with the second release that should fix the fact that in order for an event to reset it requires every party member to die. It’ll make it so that when the party members inside the arena all die, it’ll reset the encounter so that the person trapped outside doesn’t also need to die.Magic Storm(?) (blue AoEs) size seems varying, larger than appears or simply unclear
Do you have video or screenshots of that? That’s not something I’ve seen before.
During the Spirit Woods, sometimes the torch simply won’t allow people to spawn the chest at the end of the run.

Sounds like an audio bug.
Updraft not lifting people up properly/high enough, glider issues?* Glider issues might be personal, though multiple people have trouble deploying their gliders during the fight/around the arena.
Are people trying to hover in the updrafts at all? They aren’t needed to return to the platform and they were added as a precaution in case your glider didn’t deploy immediately when leaving to give you a tiny boost back. It’s possible they aren’t giving you enough velocity which is a simple fix.

Yes, I am referring to the patch planned for January 12. I’m not familiar with all of the other issues you mentioned (I’m not actually a Dev, I work for the CS team), but I’ll forward your list to the WvW team. Here’s what I do know:
There’s a fix in the same patch that should address at least some of the invulnerable wall issues. Not sure if there are other root causes for this symptom.
There’s a fix for the open WPs in contested keeps, but I’m not sure which patch it’s going into.
As for balance issues, those are definitely still being worked on (and some were fixed in the last major patch and subsequent hotfixes).I know it’s frustrating to see so many bugs. It’s frustrating to me, too, both as an employee and as a player. I’m in a WvW guild and we’ve definitely missed having maps overflowing with people to kill. Please do keep letting us know when you find broken stuff, and we’ll keep trying to fix things.

Response to a discussion about how and when permanent bank contracts sold today.
There isn’t a single account that from Jan 1 until 2 minutes after we patched that has a net (meaning that they didn’t resell) of more than 4 permanent contracts during that time frame.
2 minutes (and 27 seconds) after the patch notes were released all of the contracts were purchased.
We take this kind of stuff very serious, manipulating the live game economy comes with a serious consequence.
Acknowledgement that the Preserved Queen Bee is still bugged with Winter’s Presence
just want to confirm that we are working on this. We haven’t been able to pinpoint what exactly is causing the lingering icy effect, but once we do solve it the queen bee will go back to its original art.

Okay, I think I have this issue sorted out. I want to confirm with my programming partner that I’m not missing anything (and it never hurts to get a second pair of eyes on things). Unfortunately I don’t think we can get this into the build until the next release, which is currently scheduled for Jan 26th.
FWIW the falling effect was only ever part of the broken “jewel” version of Winter’s Presence, and it was never on the shoulder piece.

In the update the other day you guys fixed the Astralaria collection where you needed to fail Defend the Gates of Arah. The Chosen Collection requires the same event (seizure of the promenade of the gods), and was not patched the same way that Astralaria was, however it also requires the defend arah event to fail.

I am stuck on three items I’m supposed to collect, but the NPCs I’m supposed to collect them from offer no additional dialoge (The NPCs are: Peneloopee in Lions Arch, Burrisson in Wayfarers Foothils and Roj the rowdy butcher).Hello! Orphan Laine’s Wintersday quest is bugged, both with progressing it and in getting the tree afterwards
So, i started the quest on the last day of wintersday, gave the first food to the guy, then waited for the next day, gave him the second food and then waited. The 3rd day, he still wanted the food u get from the frying pan, and the day after that (today), still the same thing. Ive been to seymor oxbone all these day too, and he only sells me this one. Am i missing something, or is it bugged? I heard you can do the quest all year long, just have to start it before wintersday is over, which i did. All the npcs are there, so i dont see why i wouldnt work.
It is supposed to be that you just need to start it and then you’ll be able to complete it whenever. It is a bug that we are actively tracking and working on.
Gift of Magnanimity currently does not unlock a Wintersday Tree of Generosity in your home instance.Been in touch with support and a GM verified it.You can still do the collection and get the star of Gratitude just the node is bugged.

ANet will remove gold from your account if someone else uses RMT gold (RMT is real money transaction: gold bought from a gold seller) to buy item(s) from you on the trading post.
TIL: Using the Trading Post is buying gold RMT?
I had some arcane slivers listed on the trading post for several months now. Last night when I logged in I was greeted by a pleasant surprise of they had sold and I had 450g to pick up at the trading post http://imgur.com/g5fUkZq because someone or a group of someones bought up all the supply of them as you can see here: https://www.gw2tp.com/item/20802-arcane-sliver. I had invested in arcane powders and slivers after long ago making profit off pvp reward chests on the trading post.
I was happy and went about playing for a while and did some pvp dailies and then lfg’d for a while to raid then logged off. Few hours later I receive and email from support claiming I had received items or gold from RMT and that they had confiscated any available gold and/or items acquired from them. Sure enough I log in and am missing 300g http://i.imgur.com/tfHwySa.jpg.
I explain to support how I had never bought gold and that an item I had listed MONTHS ago happened to have sold but they are adamant I bought gold and wouldn’t even bother to explain how having an item on the trading post sell = buying gold from RMT
tl;dr: at anytime if you sell something on the trading post support can take away your earnings and just claim you obtained it from RMT.(Snip: links to videos and other posts removed).
We monitor all incoming and outgoing sources of wealth. The gold that was used to purchase your arcane slivers (4 of them) for a total of 499.99 Gold originated from a RMT source and while your item listings may have been setup 8 months ago, that doesn’t change where the wealth originated (which was banned).
While the transactions completed, and do not appear to be any fault of yours, we still needed to reclaim the gains from it to remove the wealth from the economy that you should not have gained in the first place. Since we only removed 300g, it looks like you are netting about a positive 166 gold from this. We’ll let you keep that, and I’ll take the strike off your account for buying gold.

Karka don’t really have a king or queen, per se – in large part because they’re hermaphroditic. There’s the ancient karka which is the head of the colony – a karka colony is run from the top down in chronological order – without an ancient karka to lead a colony, it breaks up and the remaining karka are sort of lost until another ancient rises or comes in to take over the colony. There is a subset of karka that were dubbed “egg-layers”, who are the more fertile of the karka within a specific colony, though all karka are at least capable of egg production. At the mid-level of karka colonies, there are distinct roles that karka fulfill like egg-laying, colony guards, food gathering, etc.
The designation of a karka “queen” is something of a misnomer in that this is usually just the most senior of the karka egg-layers – a “queen” in this case isn’t particularly special, nor is that karka “in charge” of the colony, unless it lives long enough to grow into an ancient. Fortunately for Tyrians, ancient karka are exceptionally rare. :-)
