Diminishing Returns: How does it work?
I don’t think Arenanet want you to farm, they want you to have fun being poor.
I have asked in different ways how ANet wants the typical player to play, since a typical player is not ment to hit DR, with no response. I too would like to know how DR “really” works and how ANet recommends we play to avoid it. I do not think DR is the issue with the loot drop rate bug as I ran through a series of events today, not repeating a single one, and still got junk compared to what we used to get over 3 weeks ago.
Sad to say, they will never reveal data on how dr really works. Doing so would only provide more info for hackers/botters on how to circumvent it. =/
I’ve heard guild players say, “move to another map before you hit the DR.” Not sure if that worked for them. I heard some of them (in Vent) get the DR and log out. Sometimes starting a L4D2 game and other joined them. I guess farming a location (certain mobs of a certain rank, event, or close events) for too long = DR. Although when the loot/materials you want are only in one or two locations…. /shrug. Guess it was an anti-bot thang, but considering Anet used bots to test builds, I’d think they’d be capable of a more sophisticated way to identify bots that doesn’t impede regular players using their limited time to spend going after the items they want to get. Maybe with some more time (learning the tell tale signs) that sophisticated idea could be used and DR will get removed. /shrug
When eventually more maps are available with more rank 80 mobs that drop those precious materials… /shrug.
Does anyone know EXACTLY how DR works? I mean, like, the official code in the game and how it affects drops, and after how much time?
They will not release the specific information because then bots would be programmed to counter it and render it’s purpose redundant.

This is why I asked instead, what ANet considers typical gameplay is that avoids DR.

Same wondering here. And to be honest, do Anet really believe players won’t go farming for their need of mats which Anet itself put in the game(Legendary and Ascended)?
How do you know when you hit DR?
How do you know when you hit DR?
You can’t really know until you waste your time collecting a bunch of porous bones. Then you realize the game is asking you not to play any more.
So we have a game that makes you thirsty and then makes you sip through the smallest of soda straws. The experience is not pleasant. Most people won’t endure this long.
