Make it so people can get a discount trough crafting said token but not mandatory. We need a WVW ascended vendor for heroics. Many people dont like pve and pvp bores that hell out of them.

It isn’t fun for people like me who spent a lot of money leveling crafting only for some guy to lose their way into a 5/6 ascended pieces.

In any case, the current system was too generous. I think the new system is too extreme. The new crafting material or mastery whatever should be sellable on TP by players with level 500 crafting, however to prevent it from being devalued Arena net should set a high minimum sell price.

That in particular.

I’m concerned about this meddling in the market, especially after silk, leather, and some of the legendary journeys (10 Elonian Leather for an insignia? …on a weapon? Not even trying to hide it, ANet…)

I don’t mind the change, since I have a full set of 500-enabled crafters, but the econs have a nasty habit of inducing overcorrections that punish the players.

@Rashagar: Debatable.

Grant Gertz said, “First, each game mode will still use a specific currency unique to that mode as part of the price but the rest of the costs associated with purchasing the gear will be the same across the game modes.” And, “Second, purchasing the ascended gear will now rely much more on player crafting. The cost for a piece of gear will now include a crafted token which shows a player’s mastery of the appropriate crafting discipline, the game mode specific currency, and raw gold. … For PvP, this will add a considerable cost to the acquisition of ascended gear.”

Then ended with, “And while ascended vending now requires max level crafting, players that obtain ascended gear via vending will see a moderate discount in cost over traditional crafting.”

Ascended crafting is not changing at all.

It is currently possible to buy ascended equipment in PvP and Fractals. They are adding a requirement to that which means you can’t buy it unless you’ve reached 500 in the relevant craft.

A very bad change indeed. They are imposing a not-so-fun aspect of the game on all players. And the sole reason is economy…

I am not aware that the economy is in any bad shape whatsoever. There are already plenty of things you need to craft to obtain. Enforcing crafting on obtaining ascended gear is just a terrible move.

wait til they roll out the WvW vendor. Given Anet’s track record with sledge hammer nerfs, I can’t wait to see them release a new WvW currency because too many people have hoarded up the medals of Honor already. I’m sure the WvW folks will implode. Then they will cry that they don’t what the EotM folks to earn ascended due to the ‘real’ WvW folks jealously over that map. And Anet will listen to these folks, since they did the same for WvW missions and release yet another stupid currency, one where you have to be in a zerg with a minimium of 20 people to earn 1 token per hour.

Im willing to bet most 4 year wvw folks already have asc armor, that they had to craft on their own or got from the occasional drop. So it’s of little consequence to them if asc armor were introduced in wvw this late in the game.

If a new wvw currency were to be introduced at this point, I’d imagine very little would change for the average wvw player also. Those that still play would continue to play, and the new people hoping for asc would probably join up and discover this game mode, even if it’s eotm.

I only hope that if they do add armor or even if they don’t anytime soon, that they atleast add wvw specific amulet infusions and perhaps additional stat selections to the asc jewerly vendor we already have.

Unless they plan on making the ascended tokens sellable, this is not a good idea. Forcing crafting on anybody just because they want an ascended piece is beyond stupid. If they’re worried about it so much…make sell cost 5g for an ascended token. There, it’s going to cost quite a bit just to get an ascended piece, and the market will most likely keep it over 20g.

This change won’t affect me at all (if anything, it might make it easier/cheaper for me to acquire ascended gear on alts).

However, it will affect friends of mine who simply aren’t interested in crafting at all.

I’m in favor of balancing the cost of acquisition across the game modes; I’m against increasing barriers to entry for people to gear up for T4 fractals. (Or for whatever reason people are interested in ascended gear.)

I’m not exactly sure how it benefits the community to require crafting, short of being only one way to increase demand for raw materials with low market value.

For those who panic / go rampage mode: Please do take a moment, BREATH, and calm down.. Done? Alright lets move on →

Alright, so for starters, there are guides like http://gw2crafts.net/ out there that litterly have the job done for you already. It shows everything step by step on how to do what for each crafting discipline and the required mats/gold you need to have or buy.

Second, as how stupid or annoying or w/e it may sound. Once you are done with it. It actually has ALOT of benefits. Like you can craft anything ingame. Some stuff that otherwise may not even be obtainable. And really maxing crafting discipline is a one time thing. And with those guides out there its all childsplay

So what about gold? …You may ask… Cause not everyone can or wants to grind their stuff, most people will just buy it. Rather that is the equipment itself or mats to craft it. I geus this is different for everyone, but i personally think it would be too weak/easy to say that you dont have the gold for it. As you can basically turn everything into gold, it is super easy to obtain it regardless of the content you play

(I happen to like crafting, even though I don’t make use of it often any longer.)

I’m not at all against ANet making crafting more important. I just can’t agree that the new system can be characterized as an alternative to crafting; it’s just an alternative recipe, with the steps renamed and moved between different NPCs (workstation vs vendor).

Crafting in MMOs.. Not sure why developers think that is fun and mandatory. If I’d want to gather and craft, I would play Harvest Moon…

To be fair, it CAN be a fun thing to gather stuff and cook it for your upcoming guild dungeon run/fractal whatever. But then there are the people that get up, grab their weapons, kill stuff the whole day long, go to a Norn tavern, get drunk and fall asleep on the sidewalk. Rinse and repeat. Acting like “you are only worth it if you know how to stitch” is pretty odd. That is like saying: “You are only a good Formula 1 racer if you’ve built your own car”.

These changes are horrible. I’ve been playing since beta and only maxed cooking because of the hungry cat collection. I don’t like the crafting system in game. I never have. It’s confusing at best when making things give variable exp and the additional confusion of using boosts, like you would level an actual character, etc. I don’t like being forced to participate in a part of the game that in any other is optional. What needs to be addressed is how some people just hate how crafting is done and maybe overhauling that system, if you really want everyone to do it.

I was looking forward to a change like when exotics became craftable and sellable, making it more accessible to people who didn’t have the time/patience to craft and/or grind karma, which years ago was a struggle to come by and per character, not account. Those changes made the game a lot more fun and the goals more reachable for me, as well as others, I am sure. Making the next tier of gear even harder to reach and demanding the entire player base craft or be left behind is ridiculous. Will I have to eventually abandon this game simply because I don’t want to do the very unfun and grindy time consuming thing I’ve avoided since the very beginning?

Largely because of how much non-Ascended stuff is made purely for leveling crafting, and then gets thrown on the market for whatever the crafter can get because that’s better than nothing.

I love how everyone acts like leveling crafting is this massive herculean task that requires hours upon hours upon hours.

Really you can go from 0 to 500 in less than an hour.

It’s mostly a crafting material sink, and a regressive one at that – it’s generally the less wealthy players that haven’t already done it, while those who’ve already got their 500s can profit by selling surplus materials.

EDIT: Ninja’d by dreadedkitty, but it’s a valid point. Most MMOs with crafting make it optional – beneficial to have, yes, but generally you can still get top-end gear without crafting, even if that’s by buying from a crafter. With Ascended being account-bound from creation, though… this WILL make it mandatory to craft. And for a lot of people, crafting is preparing to have fun at the expense of actually having fun.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I sense the frustration from crafting comes from the time gated mats, which can be bypassed with gold on the TP.

The idea behind the changes is so one alternate path isn’t significantly easier than another AND to make sure those ways never become the preferred way over crafting.
Crafting ascended gear makes the economy go round. Otherwise all those mats will be going for vendor prices. There will be little motivation to level crafting to 500 and then craft ascended gear if playing PvP, WvW, Fractals, Raids, would let you earn entire sets in less time to craft it taking the time gates into account.

That’s the same reason they won’t make ascended gear tradeable, forcing more players into crafting to prop up demand for mats which keeps those prices off the ground state and keep gold having some value.

I guess since all wvwers obviously just run around in circles in groups of 50 for hours on end, we don’t need better gear, and since our guard stacks were taken away from the mastery line and added to infusions you can only put on ascended stuff we obviously don’t need said ascended stuff in order to play WvW since we all just run around in circles in groups of 50 for hours on end.

Anet’s lack of interest in wvw isnt to blame for your bad luck. Is there a lack of interest anyways? Sure wvw might not be at the best place but they have been (slowly) working on it over the past few months.
I understand why you may want a vendor for wvw though. Did Anet say thats something they wont do? To me it sounds like it might be an option for the future.

“Having a unified system for acquiring ascended gear via vendors will give us more flexibility for adjustments, if they are needed, and it will give us the flexibility to potentially introduce this system in other game modes where appropriate.”

Or did they rule a wvw vendor out and i just overread it?
Either way it would require the token but as others already told you that isn’t actually all that terrible – really. It won’t take more than 30-45 mins to level a profession from 0-500 using one of the guides.

If this change is really reason enough for you to quit you might just be at a dead point anyways and could do with a little break.

I’m not hyped about the changes either but i do see where they are coming from and it does make sense in a way.
Either way best of luck to you

Actually ANETS lack of interest for wvw is to blame. When you see after years of playing their game and sugesting valid and obvious options (not mine but similar) they keep ignoring what their comunity wants regarding announced changes. Also their fault that the drop rate is stupid, not only me but check the forums and you will see that almost 80% of the people complain about getting sometimes 1 ascended drop in 1000 wvw levels… 1000 man… do you know how many hours months and years it might take someone to achieve this level? I could understand a GARANTEED ascended chest (weapons or armoir never trinkets) every 100levels. That would already make wvw more apealling and not easy to get ascemded at all.

Want to dodge the time gate, buy the items off the TP, that’s why those mats are tradeable. Sure you pay a markup but crafters aren’t going to do it for a loss as they are the ones losing 15% on the transaction.

The new PvP/Fractal method will be a chunk of gold, play mode specific currency and some Level 500 doohickey you need to craft to show you have Level 500 crafting for that type of item. Plus “ascended gear via vending will see a moderate discount in cost over traditional crafting”. So it sounds like it will be a time to craft Vs time to gather mode specific currency they will attempt to balance.

I guess it won’t be fun for you when you’re old and the world has changed and someone is driving a levitating car compared to the one on wheels you had to drive… geez and you spent the same or more on it than the guy with the levitating car…

Though, probably not in our life times, but you get the drift. And I’m not really ripping on you, rather this selfish mentality that may prevent things from going forward.

Instead of thinking “kitten, we spent so much and now these guys spend so little” – think “back in my day….” or “back in the good old days…” “we had to chore to get our ascended armor” – there’s a bit more of a sense of pride/history rather than envy or some-type of selfishness.

His point is, it takes legitimately 0 effort to get ascended gear via pvp. It was made way too easy and thus they are nerfing it.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

Do NOT make those vending changes that....

Hey, its okay. In the future anet will make EVERYTHING craft only. No more black lion. No more vendors. You will have to craft everything from scratch. No more gold. Gold is gone. You have to farm everything. You have to craft everything. No more treasure chests. No more currencies. Welcome to CRAFT War 2.
