As the topic states, if you no longer WvW what keeps you from logging in? Just interested in what drives people away from this feature.

The topic doesn’t say “no longer” WvW, just says “Do you…?”

Not trying to nitpick just to nitpick, but it is different. Having said that, can you tell me why I would or should WvW?

I haven’t yet, but I will one day. I want 100% map completion, and sadly that has included a pvp aspect. I feel like I’d like to try it out someday, but since I’m not a pvper at heart, it’s at the bottom of my To-do list.

I just get no satisfaction from fighting other players in a war that never ends.

The idea of WvW appeals to me quite a bit and I enjoyed it when I played the first month or two, learning the different tactical points and strategies.

Pros:
It’s a part of the monthly achievement (each and every month) and the karma reward for that is quite nice.I also think it’s a well designed map (like much of the rest of the world) and I prefer running around it to say, Orr.

Cons:
Sadly, now it’s mostly a zergfest. Unless you have a guild group, you will either end up alone (hard to accomplish much, poor rewards, easy pickings for other sides) or in a zerg where you run around and kill whatever everybody else is also killing.

Coordination does help to a point, but large imbalances of bodies are quite common. I’ve made the point in other threads, but I think it would help if Anet made the WvW monthly achievement to do something strategic, not just rack up kills.

Still, it’s probably worth trying as a break from questing. And if you’re on a really good server, it can be a lot of fun rolling face even if you don’t really know what you’re doing. If you’re on a bad or outnumbered server…it can be rough.

just did a 3h of wvw (first time i play over 1h in wvw) and it was fun BUT had to turn everything to low to have playable fps, game looks so blurry and ugly… i shouldn’t be doing this kind of things with a 2500k/570. I mean BF3 with full destruction x100 better graphics and i always have 47+ fps and an average looking game like gw2 with dx9 runs at 17fps, no gg anet.

Disagree 1000%
ANet did it right by making enemies unable to talk to each other. Last thing I want is some kid with an attitude paging me about how I suck, or how he’s going to kill me after I just killed him.

Wow. Someone needs to go back to school and learn the meaning of the word Anonymity. The poster was talking about being able to know who you are fighting by presenting their name on the screen other than “so and so invader” .

I am aware of what the word ‘Anonymity’ means, and it changes nothing. :P
Allowing players on rival servers to see the names of their enemies opens the door to serious griefing via pages and email.
I don’t want to know the name of the guy that just killed in WvW. That’s not important to me. Conversely I don’t want some angry little PvPer gunning for me because I hurt his little ego either.

What’s stopping me?

The massive population imbalances created by free server transfers, and a ton of fair-weather players and guilds who just want easy wins and don’t care at all about server loyalty or challenge.

I play on Ferguson’s Crossing, and often log in to find that my server controls 1 supply camp. Period. Out of four WvW zones… we’ll have one supply camp. Heading into any of the zones and trying to join other players and make some headway is entirely pointless. We just get completely owned by massively superior forces and die over and over again.

No level of organization or leadership can make a difference against vastly superior numbers, and it’s a viscous cycle. The worse we do, the more people jump ship to the winning server, which means we do even worse.

It is impossible to complete world exploration on my server, and WvW just isn’t any fun when you can’t do anything. ArenaNet needs to do something…free transfers need to stop, but before that they need to provide real, tangible incentives and support for players and guilds spreading out to lower-pop servers. I think there should be a worthwhile and noticeable buff and reward system which favors the underdog, making it desirable to actually take on a challenge, rather than just joining the most crowded server and taking the easiest wins.

Here goes:

Bad and boring maps, sucky commanders, people simply ignoring the requests for party/squad and without that I can’t be arsed to try and help the ungrateful bishes who want to win. (Note: I’m from RoS, where everyone shouts at players to go to WvW because we keep losing, but they don’t give us incentive to go to WvW at all by ignoring p/s requests, as I said)
Then: Sucky rewards, it’s hard to find events (except for repetitive ‘Kill this caravan’ things), no sense of having achieved anything when you actually gain a fort, protect your caravan does not give rewards when there’s no enemies (You still spend time guarding it, right?) No real benefit in holding a fort or anything. Slow exp if you’re on the losing side (which RoS is.), no story to it, balls hard to even get 50 kills for some monthly achievement

I don’t enjoy WvW because its like a weriod fake puzzle game with lots of wasted space and mazes. I would love it if they took out the “mazes/puzzles” and use this space to place guild houses and player cities…giving us the control of setting a time for a more real group waring experience. Instead, WvW makes me feel like a controlled mouse in a trap.

invincibilty is only possible around your own spawn point

Completely untrue. There are spots (a supply camp comes to mind) where people can stand and be completely immune to damage while killing other players.

im gessing your talking about the supply camp below bay, and yes the team that has there spawn point can do that if they stand up agienst the wall without being able to do any damage if people dont move to them but as people need to kill the one running away and then go into hes range when hes invulable(remember if your out of hes range he cant damage you and cant do anything to interfer with your team taking the camp if he also wants invulnabilety) and each spot is close to a spawn point and the only thing to do about it is it stay away from enemy spawn point or atleast out of there range so they cant damage you

I used to be an avid WvW player when this game first launched, 6 hour bender sessions were not all that uncommon for me the first few months but now these days I can not stay in WvW for more than 30 minutes without getting bored and going back to PvE.

It’s too slow, so much time is spent taking undefended territory and traveling the maps, building siege, repairing walls, escorting dolyaks and various other ’non-fun’ activites. The giant battles are still awesome but you’re lucky to have 2 of these in a 6 hour session.

The other issue I have is the culling. I am not going to complain about thieves/mesmers because I do not know how truly strong these classes would be if there were no culling issues but I do know that 2 thieves right now can take out a dolyak being escorted by 30 people before they render, that is game breaking.

I stopped playing a long time ago and i’m just waiting for some fixes:

-Zerg > all. This is probably my main problem with WvWvW. Sure, a group of 5 people (Even if extremely well played), shouldn’t be able to win against a even geared and leveled group of 15+. However, atm the group of 5 people is completely useless: They can’t get a keep, they can’t fight (or at least slow) a zerg for long. I just don’t enjoy mindlessly capping keeps with 15 or more people. It’s boring.

-Culling problems: I don’t get how a WvWvW-focused game can be released in such a state. The culling problem is completely gamebreaking. Also it favors thieves, which can achieve perma invisibility.

-Downed state. Something which favors zergs again. Why? You down someone, NO PROBLEM, people just go to him and press “F” and he gets up after two seconds.

-No rewards, no progression, no “fame” and no changes in the world. You can dominate or you can be dominated, nobody cares. You can be the conqueror of everything but still nobody cares. WvWvW is completely meaningless.

-Very repetitive. Why so few important secondary objectives? This makes the game to a “ZERG GET TOWER, GET KEEP, GET TOWER AGAIN, GET CAMP”.

-Frustrating badge-system. This needs a big rework.

-WvWvW not affected by PvP (sPvP)-balance. Why the hell? Isn’t WvWvW PvP? Aren’t confusions and thieves’-burst overpowered in WvWvW too?

Thanks for reading!

I believe people have a wrong view of WvW.

Open PvP (WvW) is simply that, you go in, get in a group and massive kill everything in your way.

I find it fun, it’s what I do all day, I don’t complain of objectives, I don’t complain of money (would be great to get more though), I don’t complain of badges or gear, I don’t complain of fighting an enemy zerg of 50+ people, why?

Because that’s what WvW is about.

WvW is not about PVE, it’s not about small groups (which can do something productive, get camps, they give points and supply to the keeps and towers, you know?), it’s not even about getting that shiny pretty legendary weapon, or puzzles…

WvW is about points, you keep the points by protecting stuff, by protecting and attacking you get to kill massive amount of players, by killing massive amount of players you get massive amount of badges (100 a day is more than enough in WvW I believe, since it’s main objective IS NOT to give you gear… or complete a daily/monthly quest…).

PvPers enjoy killing, and more when you can go inside and play with your whole guild, gets you the feel of belonging to an army, if you do not do your job, the map will be affected / points.

WvW achieves that feeling of “ok I want to forget everything and simply, break some heads”.

Don’t mess with it, do not make it for PvErs, it’s fine as it is, it is fun as it is, if some people that post in here do not like it is because they want to achieve something, such as “puzzle master”, “rat killer”, “you did your monthly, great, now leave because there’s people that want to contribute more than just killing or doing events or farming karma” achievements.

I love WvW, I know about 300 people that LOVE WvW, could be even more (just counting people I have seen doing WvW every day in my server :>).

Now, don’t come here and ask to give you achievements in WvW or quests, because WvW is not PVE.

You’ve got a lot of maps and quests and shiny stuff to do in PVE and even sPVP, go there.

Only technical issues I can see are:

- Culling
- Immune to attacks at certain points of the map (camps)

How can you say “it’s boring” when you can get this from WvW:

It’s already been said, but i started play less and less when WvW became repetitive.

Zerg to a fort, stand in front of the wall, wonder if we’re going to actually get coordinated and lay down siege… wait for them to zerg back, repeat. Consequences of any of the actions are little if any. If we take the keep, they might take another, or just wait 20 minutes for us to get bored and move on.

I have also found it necessary to make a few “competitve” classes in PVP as some are weaker than others, while some are clearly designed to exceed.

I usually get my 50 “monthly reward” kills and play again next month not to get burned out.

People that look for rewards in WvW should be doing PVE or sPVP…

WvW is about winning and nothing else.

@Korsbaek: HillbilliesRule is correct, there are camps that allow people to be immune if they stand on the corners, I won’t mention which ones because it could become overused, though it’s not meant to work like that so it would be fine to simply report the exploiters.

- Badges?, I get atleast 100 badges per day :/ don’t know what tier you’re in, that could probably be the issue, not enough people to kill.

- Items?, I get atleast 2 gold per day worth of items (without mentioning rares and exotic drops per day, which I mostly break for ecto.)

- Thief/Mesmer culling?, go into a zerg of 40+ people, fight other zerg of 40+ people, you will find warriors, rangers, mesmers, thiefs, necros, etc. hidden everywhere. Culling is a GW2 issue, don’t blame Thiefs and Mesmers about it, the classes work the way they are, culling might give these two a little advantage, but don’t make drama about it because most of the time, a mesmer or thief that goes to kill 1v1 or 1v2 won’t be affected by culling, that means you suck with your character, better check up that PVE full berserker build, because it makes you explode in WvW.

In other words, stop QQing about WvW, it’s fine as it is, just fix the culling and you’re ready to go, guild ranks would be good though not necessary.

If you make gold in WvW then you aren’t helping your server because you are not buying siege or upgrades enough.

I came to this game for the WvW but I’m not very impressed. I was really hoping for a large scale DAOC type experience. Didn’t happen. I think the mighty blue Chevron is the worst Idea I’ve seen. It’s done nothing but produce mindless zombie players that can’t figure out what to do unless big blue is on the map. People are so dependent on big blue that now we have a NPC spawn with one so it can lead people around by the nose. They could of at least let guild leaders have a squad type ability with the chevron that only ‘guild’ members can see instead of trying to force people into leading a public zerg.

Rewards are weak….. Killing individual players gets you nearly nothing. You don’t even see 90% of your bags drop which means you’re missing out on badges… list can go on and on.

People put badges as a reason? LOL

I get at least 50 a day and got the things I needed from them a long time ago. Easy answer to this thread is people don’t wvw cos they prefer pve.

Certain classes, like the guardian, are at a disadvantage in WvW when it comes to farming badges. So yeah, it’s a valid complaint, especially considering how many badges are required for items.

Anyway, to the OP, I’m growing weary of WvW just because there are no persistent rewards to fight toward, and the annoying culling issue. It doesn’t even need to be an individual reward, either, but something that we can work to build for the server. Right now, there’s only “server pride,” but why would that matter at all when things reset so quickly? Yay, we beat down all the servers in our current tier to move up, now we get to be beat on for the next week…in the absence of mass guild transfers, this static nature is going to kill WvW. Having a tangible reward a server can work towards will help instill a sense of purpose to WvW beyond simple pride.

LOL guardian kicks kitten in WvW, sorry but your argument is invalid.

Did I say guardians can’t kill in WvW? No. I said farming badges, which classes like the ele are superb at doing. So no, my argument is not invalid, so please try to grow up and actually contribute something to this discussion.

I run with a guardian almost daily on my mesmer for the last 3 months. He gets at least 3x the badges and kills that i do. Started figuring out this is because any damage my clones/phantasms do wont count towards kill credit and thus badge count is way lower. Its pretty frustrating, at first we werent that far apart in total wvw kills but after a few months his kill count triples mine, and my /age is higher and i spend almost all my time in wvw.

So yeah im of the opinion the badge drop rate has more to do with the class/build you play than anything else. I cant imagine how bad the numbers are for someone speccing for utility who realistically contributes 5x more to any battle than some glass cannon who gets badges and kills in droves.

If I would have to pick one out of the MOST annoying things for me….it would definitely be night capping. Its a HUGE problem because its not only “night capping” per se…..its night plus day too.

If a server caps all during the night….then that means that during the day, lets just say “day” starts at 8-9 AM, then people are either at work or school. So that means that the server who was night capping, has mostly everything capped until most people start getting home from work or school. Meaning until about 5-7 PM.

Then lets say people push back the night capping server back until probably 11-12 night time…..then go to sleep…..night capping server then gets everything again. Its a vicious cycle and then you start not to care anymore.

Bottom line, WvW has to have a time cut off limit. Shut off at certain time of the night based on the average of the three server times and open it up again at a certain time of the day.

OR

What I would prefer, make a PvP mode similar to WvW, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Have two or three servers against each other; Anet can decide.
Limit the amount of players per server, maybe 60 each.
Make it that a server can actually win.
This of course would be an instanced PvP game you can join (meaning, multiple sessions of this mode can happen that the same time, like any other PvP mode).
Have tokens drop after each game ends so that you can exchange for equipment.

It would be a dream come true if this mode were to be implemented…..seeing the lack of interesting PvP modes in Gw2 is such a downer.

Many of the activities within WvW are not fun, that is the issue. Escorting dolyaks, repairing keep walls, running supply to build siege, trebbing, none of these activites are fun on their own merits. Once you introduce a reward for doing those activities, it becomes fun.

For many players the acquisition of new shinies is the fun part.

It’s not possible to create PvP or WvWvW that is 100% pure fun. There has to be something to motivate you through the dull and boring bits. If there isn’t, less people will play meaning fun parts are less likely to happen so more people stop playing, repeat until game dies.

Seconded. Will never happen though. People like to sit behind their computer monitors and complain. :P
‘I WANT IT ALL AND I WANT IT, /NAO!/’
And when they do get it, they find something else to kitten about.

This does /not/ include complaining about something that is game-breaking broken, however. An exploit is an exploit, plain and simple.

Basically WvW isn’t fun for a lot of people, if you can’t make an aspect of the game fun then relying on the carrot dangling in front is always a good way to make people enjoy it through addiction.

Seems to have worked for the rest of this game.

I play WvW daily still, even after 800 hours.
The gameplay is great, it just needs some depth.

- New title every 1000 kills / siege usage and whatnot.
- New maps. Snow+Grass only is boring.
- Reintroduce Orbs and make them increase the drop rate of badges and gold, so we’re fighting over something valuable.
- Towers/keeps need to be A LOT harder to conquer. I don’t mind camps to be easy but anything walled should be more heavily defended by a lot more NPCs.
- More items that can be only gotten in WvW. Unique WvW weapons and armors.
- Movable siege; all siege should be able to be pushed and/or carried.
- Siege towers that work like movable rams but more health and can be filled with players that shoot from inside, immune to damage until the tower is destroyed.

Wrong, I use the badges and yet I have enough badges, you can use badges for more than gear you knew this I guess. Also, I believe you know siege also drops from kills. I don’t need to use all my siege since all my guild / server contributes at different points of the battle. So yes I have enough siege without spending a dime.

When it is needed, I use it, when it’s not needed I save it, as simple as that.

And just for your information, everyone in my guild gives 2 gold weekly to the guild bank as a tax to upgrade things and build more siege.

Yes, it is something called team work.

And here’s another reason my excitement for PvP is curbed…
Typical behavor in /any/ PvP instances, from my experience. While this is little more then annoying, it does greatly testify to the lack of respect and manners from people who love to frequent PvP.
Zero respect to them… They are only slightly better then map exploiters and cheaters as far as I’m concerned.

I think it’d be cool if they introduce a new WvW map in the desert, with the central garrison/keep being a very verdant looking oasis while out in the field you have periodic and random location based sandstorm, which hinders players and NPCs in some way. Would make for a fun, dynamic map both in visual and mechanics wise.

PS: And to be fair, I love treb vs treb battles. It’s just that there’s currently no way to show my successes for it. They need to introduce new mist weapons for each WvW activity types that’s at least as cool looking as fractal weapons too.

Guid Wars 2 is my first fully fledged MMO. There is a reason why MMO’s never appealed to me and why I came to this one. I have strong conviction towards PvP. If I am to be involved in PvP whatsoever, I never want to die to an opponent because they brought 20 people with them. I want balance in PvP. I can’t see WvW providing that, ever.

Pretty simple reasons..

Serious Exploits, hacks etc… Mesmers over walls etc (not fixed in months)
Running in Zergs and Fighting Wooden Doors for hours = Zero Fun
Siege Equipment are tedious to use..
Unbalanced Classes, (Thief, Guardian, Warrior etc) >(Engineer, Necromancer, Ranger etc)
No Rewards (badges drop like Exotics) (WvW Gear/Weapons are ugly as sin)
Culling
Poor frame rates and ping times..
Being inter country i have no hope fighting Americans..

World vs World is open pvp, meaning it’s 3 servers fighting for the maps. You won’t find much 1v1 or even 1v2 fights here, you’d probably like to look for sPVP where it’s small groups fights.

For me it’s culling, and how easy it is to take forts/how useless people become when siege is involved.

But mainly culling.

An thieves.

An mesmers.

I don’t like playing cat and house.

Oh yeah I found this on the forums a few months ago, I forget who posted it. I don’t claim it as mine, just that I think it’s relevant.

The only time I enter wvw is for my monthly, I do not like pvp in whatever form it takes. I don’t even do the snowball fights. Oh yeah and making Commanders a buy option and not a voting with option to demote.
The month that has no wvw req I’ll do my happy dance.

commander is a broken system. makes everyone visible and voila, no need for the stuck up 100gers that feel the need to tell me what to do.

it’s extra annoying because everyone mindlessly follows the blue dot as they have no other way to organize themselves with a total lack of a decent partying system.

Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.

I got into heavily the last 2-3 weeks. It’s pretty fun but I have no idea how different it is server to server. My server has been kicking butt other than one encounter with a night cap server (that does suck I’ll admit) and everyone is fairly friendly and willing to help out.
