To all players: don`t be greedy. The content you are getting every 6 months is equal to a full expansion in other MMOs. New areas? EOTM, Southsun Cove, Dry Top (and 2 pvp maps) . New features? Wardrobe, Traits, New armors/weapons. New content? this is kinda lacking but still, 1 new dungeon, dungeons paths, fractals, SAB. AND ABOVE ALL, Story wise: we are getting roughly 1-2 hours of story play every 2 weeks, lets do the math, on average we get 1.5 hours SO… 1.5H every 2 weeks on a 6(?) month Season = 18 Hours of story, that is equal to a 60$ worth new Single player RPG story amount, the only difference is that you getting it for free, and you getting it 2-3 times per year. Thats a lot of effort, i my self can be disappointed sometimes with some features that we havent got yet that i think are essential if you want to make your MMO competitive, like Housing, Dueling, more legendaries etc. but we got to think that the Devs are people too and there have limitations on how much they can produce. The only thing that they should probably do from their perspective is become more open to the players and start talking about things on development more often and with honesty.

It’s not the amount of content people are complaining about, but the type of content. If Anet came out with 87 dungeons, and nothing else, it wouldn’t excite me and I might complain. I’m very happy with the content provided, but I can understand why people would want content more geared to their own interests.

When I look at the map for Tyria I get optimistic because every few weeks a new area is being added and can’t wait to see ALL areas being made explorable. The end result will be grand. After all of Tyria is explorable is when I would want to add a new continent, there is still so much more that can be added here. And it all being free doesn’t hurt either :P . Having a story based outlook opens up the path to new continents and civilizations. And that is something GW does very good! In my opinion.

Problem is, the most content that they’ve released fills no purpose. EotM is 24/7 karmatrain at best and Southsun Cove is as redundant as any other PvE map. You go there to kill the Karka Queen, to do guild missions, maybe to do an easy jumping puzzle or to farm some things. That’s it. The only saving grace for Dry Top is that the events grant a new currency that can be currently used. As for wardrobe, megaserver or trait update, those are QoL updates, they don’t expand your way of playing the game. Not to mention that those updates still have flaws.

Usually when a new patch comes out. I try it for a few hours and I go back doing what I have been doing for the past years, because the new content is quickly exhausted and the new content isn’t as rewarding as the old farm methods people been doing forever.

An example is the TA aetherblade dungeon. I ran it a few times. And everytime I finished, someone in the group will say “I’ll never run the dungeon again”. And they go back to do cof and AC, because that is more rewarding.

Now compare to some Korean grinders or wow clone. Whenever they release new content people abandon the old content, and grind the new content instead.

There is a reason people get bored of this game because after 2 years, they are still doing cof and AC. Sure Anet release a bunch of content often. But those are never core content people do repetitively.

Even if they made the LS repeatable or non temporary. How many people would repeat the LS as a core content. Most likely they spend their time doing the same dungeon tour they been doing the past 2 years.

Actually been here since launch and 3 new maps is more then none so progress is being made. Regarding your last posts it is obvious that you are a pessimist seeing that you don’t like Southsun Cove because you do guild missions/kill world boss/farm/explore new area/story lol what do you want from a PvE area magic unicorns that let you ride them and get precursors for 2s? And lets not forget they don’t ONLY focus on PvE so resources will be split and refocused when everyone get a fair share.

No content fills purpose. Not really. It’s specific purposes. For example, people have gone to Southsun for a long time to farm powerful blood and armored scales. And of course the Karka Queen. And of course, a guild rush and a guild challenge. And two jumping puzzles, one of which is easy and one of which is more challenging. You have harder creatures there than in Orr and people do go there for that reason. Now you may not personally like it, but you know…some people play in Southsun a lot. Not to mention people farm mats there you can’t get anywhere else. That’s important too. You write things off because you don’t care about them, but that’s not really fair.

As for flaws, everything always has flaws. Marriage has flaws, but I’m still married. Anytime you do anything, some people will complain. I saw people complain about the account wallet. To them it’s flawed, but most people don’t think so.

You can’t say the Wardrobe doesn’t expand how people play the game because for collectors it does. It changed how I play the game, because now I’m going for more skins. It’s a new, additional goal for me.

To begin with OP, I would take great issue with the claim “The content you are getting every 6 months is equal to a full expansion in other MMOs”. Expansions do just that, expand the game. If anything, the game has been stretched slightly, but not expanded. If things Super Adventure Box had been permanent additions, I might be inclined to agree with you.

As it is though, we’re just doing the same thing we’ve been doing for years, in the same areas in the same way. Sometimes we get a new coat of paint, but it’s still the same rooms in the same house.

Aside from that though, I would very strongly caution against the “Don’t complain, you’re getting all this content for free” attitude.

It’s true that players sometimes (often) go outside the bounds of constructive criticism to the point of just bashing Anet and the game. I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of it myself. I think a lot of that stems from lack of communication on the devs side though.

Still, criticism and feed back from the players is a good thing, and should be encouraged, especially now that we have devs active on the forums again.

We should be active as well, and it’s okay to let them know what content we want to see. A customer who tells you want they want and what they’re willing to pay for is a good thing. We just need productive discussion on both sides.

I like how you said that we’re getting an expansions worth of content(which is an obvious lie) and then list 3 maps of all the new maps we’ve gotten LOL. What a fail. First of all, it took them almost 2 years to add a second PVE map, which is very subpar for MMO standards. Plus, an expansions worth of content is not two maps, you can include EOTM either because that isn’t PVE. An expansions worth of content is around 8 maps on average, at least if you look at WoW.

Content wise, guild wars 2 has gotten very little, thats impossible to deny, just look at how much of season 1 we can’t play because it was nearly all temporary.

Feature-wise I can agree the game has changed a lot. The only criticisms I have are that Anet takes very long to implement small features like a last online feature in guilds.

Overrall looking at the combination of content+features, its less than what we got in guild wars 1 within the first 2 years.

Season 2 definitely improved stuff that was wrong with Season 1 but so far the problem with Season 2 is that all we’re really getting per patch is a new living story instance plus a little bit of expansion in the open world. The living story instance has no replayability and the expansions to dry top really never changed much. One time we didn’t get anything. Thats the problem. People login, do the instance, have fun with the cool cutscene at the end and then go back to doing old content that actually has replayability.

It seems to me that many players that complain or bash Anet for their, shortcomings probably have bad lives. I don’t know your struggles and I don’t know what’s going on in your lives, but they could be a huge factor into why you’re so full of anger and disappointment.

Even though I just started playing less than 2 months ago, I’ve had only 1 legit excuse to let Anet know what’s wrong. A story mission that was bugged, but now is fixed.
I paid 50 bucks for the game and don’t have to pay an additional 15 a month. According to others, Anet has released numerous patches and “expansions” to keep us happy.

And even if there are bugs and glitches, you can’t possibly expect an MMO to be perfect. Seriously.
Maybe I just understand and am usually in a more optimistic state than others, but some of you are clearly pessimists.

Because you’re new you might not quite understand the level of resentment some people have, but it probably has little to do with real lives in most cases.

There are people who have been fans of the original Guild Wars for many many years. Many things were implied in the marketing of this game. Some of them, according to some people. Anet didn’t follow through on. But even so…

If you were a PvPer in Guild Wars 1, there were a lot of different PvP formats to choose from, as in many. PvP fans feel quite disenfranchised because they went from lots of options to very few options. They lost their game, since Anet is no longer updated Guild Wars 1. It makes them angry.

It was supposed to be a non-grindy game, and to many people (not me) there’s more grind than they counted on. We were certainly supposed to get BIS gear easily, like in Guild Wars 1, and we can’t…not that we can’t get almost BIS gear. The problem is, Anet changed direction a number of times and people are more than just casually vested in this game.

To someone on the outside, it looks like a massive overreaction, and in many ways it probably is, but you can’t really blame people for being disappointed over something they feel particularly strong about.

Have you played any MMO that’s had an expansion? What we get in 6 months is nowhere close to an expansion. Let’s just look at WoW since that’s pretty much the defacto standard. In the first two years of WoW they added 5 dungeons, 5 raids, 3 battlegrounds, Honor system, 2 zone revamps, 10 world bosses, revamped all of the classes, and not to mention probably a hundred other things that aren’t bulletpointed in my mind. I don’t think GW2 is even close to comparing with that in terms of permanent content. Even including all the temp content it’s not quite there either. But hey, you wanted to talk expansions!

Burning crusade added 11 new zones including an entire continent, raised level cap, 15 dungeons, heroic mode, 6 raids, 2 world bosses, 1 battleground, revamped honor system, 2 races, tons of new skills, new talents, New profession, new stat, Flight/Flying mounts, Arenas, new creatures, and let’s not forget probably a couple hundred quests.

Now lets compare! In 2 Years, not 6 months,
GW2 has added 2 zones – Not even close

GW2 stayed level 80 – Doesn’t even compete

GW2 added fractals, a dungeon, and paths- Yeah vs 15 dungeons? BC wins

GW2 added Eotm and 5 PvP maps. Gw2 wins in quantity but considering 4 of the 5 are the same game mode I’d say BC wins in quality. 1 Map was even removed because it was so bad and another map is just as hated along with EotM being a big flop.

GW2 added no new races- BC wins

GW2 class changes- This one is laughable! BC wins

GW2 profession updates- again not even close- BC wins

GW2 added LS events- I guess the comparison here is quests and BC wins that without a fight. Even if you want to argue Marionette, Scarlet fight, etc, there are still 6 raids that GW2 can’t answer for and single raid can cover those events and more.

In 2 years GW2 hasn’t even put in the amount of content that WoW had in 1 expansion and you’re trying to tell me that every 6 months GW2 puts out an expansions worth of content? Sorry, you’re just plain old wrong. ArenaNet for whatever reason is extremely slow at developing content and even slower at balancing classes. 6 months for a balancing patch is 2x slower than what I’d consider a slow mmo class balancing cycle. Look at commander tags, it took over a year for those and I could do that in MS Paint in 15 minutes, 2 minutes if I used photoshop. Arguably the UI for the new tags would take maybe an hour if you knew the system, there is zero reason that it took a year.

Very well said, poster above me! It is time to understand that the ‘slowliness’ is a result of mismanagement. If they fiercly are against any changes in party size (no no, never more than 5 people) and reluctant to even make new dungeons (it’s too hard and takes too long, wtf?) there is something completely wrong with a company. Even small studios are able and willing to produce additional content faster.

It’s why I sadly have to leave this sinking ship. Unleass they will add something substantial. It didn’t happen after 2 years; so I doubt it will happen in another 2 years.

80+ level for me is a grind I would not want that to happen. People belittle the content because they don’t like it. Only complain I have not making living story permanent but they have fixed that issue. People don’t like the standers of this game which they are getting FREE they should move on. Constructive criticism is good rage/hate trolling isn’t. GW2 developers haven’t been sleeping for 2 years. They care about the game just as much as we do maybe MORE because it is their livelihood. People just don’t like the content or complain because it isn’t what THEY wanted and they cry about it. Look at precursor for proof of that.

If your going to leave just leave why try to come to the forums and say it? you want people to go with you or something? People attack EotM turning to a karma farm well dang who’s fault is that the players who PLAY the map that way or the developers. Just because you don’t like something doesnt mean other don’t.

I wonder why you have to be so hyperbole. As for your initial post: “New maps every few weeks”. Let’s see, 3 maps added the last two years. So every 34 weeks, they add another map. One could say that 34 still counts as few, but I do not.
Let’s get to Southsun Cove then, shall we? You can explore the area once and you don’t get anything for doing so. The world boss can be killed once every day, unless you feel so obligated to kill the Queen more than once per day. That said, the Queen could spawn on any map, it wouldn’t help the fact that the map itself lacks meaningful activities.
As for farming, yes you can farm T6 mats, but neither is farming effective, nor can you do that all day, nor will get rich by doing so.
And as I said in my inital post, Guild Missions can only completed once per week, unless you feel obligated to do them more than once per week. That said, it isn’t even assured that you get Southsun as Guild Mission.
And there is no story anymore on Southsun.
And yes, I would like to have unicorns, even though I prefer chocobos.
But yeah, keep talking about how incredibly meaningful this map is.

In4b " expansion come with new class, races, skills, and watermelons rawr angry internet face!!!!!!"

well its true XD
just look at wow, the first expansion gave 2 new races, a new class, new skills and traits, higher level cap and an entire continent full of new weapon/armours and quests, instances and raids.

that being said, the expansion came 3 years after WoWs release, so we’re only 2/3rds there, but do you think we have 2/3rds of an expansion?

i’m not complaining, just comparing

I guess I’m the rare kind of player that doesn’t complain about what I lack.
I make suggestions for silly things like armor skins and little gem store trinkets.
I have my goals in game, I have my ways of passing my time, and I’m pleased that the game has so much to offer, and more being added all the time.
I came to the Guild Wars franchise of games from a game that was run by a company that gave less than a kitten what sort of state their game was in. Suggestions went unanswered for years, game development issues were never resolved. No word from anyone even resembling a representative of the game, the company, or the developers. For instance, my account was hacked, so I contacted support to try and straighten it out, and the response I got was “Sorry you haven’t credited enough game currency for your case to be processed.”
So to be a member of a game community where the people creating the game, and marketing it, are interacting with the players, no matter how rare it happens to be, I really freaking appreciate it. It tells me that Arena Net and everyone working on it, are willing to listen and interact with the little guy that only bought the game, and has yet to spend more on it, not for lack of wanting to, but still.

Some people just have to remember that the team at A-Net are working as hard and as fast as they can to bring us new stuff. And not everything is going to be well received. For instance, I’m not a fan of dungeons, I’ve never done a fractal, and the only time I’ve been to the PvP area was to give away time tokens I got from a Black Lion Chest. Some people are right there with me, others think I’m missing the most fun aspect of the game. It’s all a matter of opinion, so to the team at A-Net. Keep doing what you do, it’s making more people happy than not. Keep up the good work.

I play Fort Aspenwood, I lead the 8 member guild, Sacred Storm [Strm] I am Jason Goes Mental.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.

OP – Bollox is all I’m saying, you tell me not to be greedy, I tell you not to tell lies.

If you think this LS junk is equal to an expansion then your standards/expectations have been brutally lowered.

Ask yourself this, seriously. If you paid for season one and two of living story and that was all you got for your money (excluding the rest of the game). Would you be happy and content? To me the LS feels like a bloody app. I’d buy on my phone and twiddle for an hour and not a actual worthy addition to the game bearing the name Guild Wars.

In the first game when I bought Cantha and Elona I was satisfied and happy with my purchases which gave me countless hours of fun. L Story season 2, I just don’t even bother anymore.

Now compare to some Korean grinders or wow clone. Whenever they release new content people abandon the old content, and grind the new content instead.

Since when old content decay is a good thing ? Making the new content as good to do as the old is a better way than make the old one useless.

The only purpose that matters left to me and other players is how good you can farm gold with it. And Southsun, as does any other PvE map, lacks ways to acquire gold. Sure, you can farm mats there, but you’ll hardly get rich doing so.

Marriage, despite being a pretty bad object of comparison for a MMO, is an ideal, humanity is flawed. So if your marriage doesn’t live up to your expectations, then that’s your fault, not the fault of the marriage.

I understand your point of the wardrobe, but I can’t imagine that that’s a long lasting goal to aim at. What do you do when you have all skins you want? Staying in Divinity’s Reach all day? And let’s not forget that they sacrificed all town clothes to implement the wardrobe.

fun fact, most of what you mentioned are either really old updates but also, updates that most games do to their ui and typically not every 6 months but much faster and they don’t have an army of players telling everyone a ui update is end game content.

blizzard brings in wow in this 2 years always a new continent with 7-10 maps or something + sometimes new class or race + compelte news tier and style sets for weapons and armors you can get by playing (not gemshop only like in gw2) + tons of so called features^^ + actual progress for characters/accounts + whatever ……

2 years and you guyz count southsum and eotm ? rly?

You know, you can visit the sewers of your town. You want to know why noone does that? Because there is no reason for doing so.

Same with Southsun. Except of karka shells or passion fruits, there is nothing unique to farm there and even those can be bought on the TP. The Queen doesn’t get you involved with the map. You go there, kill the Queen and leave, as you do with any other world boss. Same with the guild events. You go there, do them and leave.

@Distaste.4801

Have you considered that BC wasn’t a free update and WoW have subscription fees ?
You can’t expect the same from a 430$ game and a 60$ game. (game cost + expansion cost + 2 years subscription fees)
The ratio is 7:1.

There’s problems, mismanagement, other things. But your comparizon is pointless… WoW and GW2 aren’t equals on the funding.

From where come this information ? I know gems aren’t in my ratio, but I doubt they gained an average of 400$ through gems per player.

Problem is, the most content that they’ve released fills no purpose. EotM is 24/7 karmatrain at best and Southsun Cove is as redundant as any other PvE map.

And thats the reason why an expansion with 20 maps will also change nothing.
People consume them in 20 hours .. and then say : Give us something new ..

The problem is that many players including me don’t want a level cap with a
new gear grind .. however exactly that is what makes people play all the new maps
in other MMOs with every single character .. because the NEED to do all the quests
there to get to the next level cap .. and then to gear up again.

Here we can say : oh .. those maps are boring and redundant .. because there is no
need to play them .. and even with a new level cap we can still level to 90 or whatever
in Queensdale thanks to the mentoring system.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

you ever play guild wars 1? ffxi? both maintained one level cap throughout at least 3 expansions/campaigns.

What makes people do the content? interesting new things to do in interetsing areas, with interesting rewards.

It has been done, it can be done again. If anet is wondering how, they can PM me, i will give them free ideas.

You’re obviously not a collector. I’ll never have all the skins I want. Well probably never. Most minipet collectors will never have all the minipets they want. It’s something else to do…for collectors.

What do you do in most games when you beat all the dungeons that give you the gear you need? You move into the next dungeon. I don’t care about dungeons. Anet can add 100 dungeons to this game and it wouldn’t improve the game for me. The wardrobe did. The wardrobe gives me far more play time than any number of dungeons would. It’s just a different thing to play for. One I prefer.
