Dragon Ball is my favorite Activity
This reminds me of those kids you see in Wayfarer’s throwing snowballs at each other, which you then have to hit to complete the heart.
Juvenile, shallow game play. Glad you like it. When I want to switch off my brain I might go do a round.
I have to agree. It is lots of fun when I happen to be on the winning team, but even when on the losing one, it’s by far my favorite. The only other Activity I like is Sanctum Sprint, but I haven’t visited that Activity in ages.
I just wish I was better at using all the skills in Dragon Ball. Lol.

Simplicity has a beauty all it’s own. And some of us do play games to switch off their brains.

Sanctum Sprint was one of my favorites, until the lag became so bad for me that it’s actually unplayable. Not virtually unplayable. It can’t be played.
There’s one of those skill 3 tower jumps that overshoots me no matter what I do. Makes Sanctum Sprint unfun.
I enjoy it as well. I had a round the other night where a bunch of people left early and it was left as 2v2. It was absolutely epic! I’m not sure how long it took to finish but the last time I remember was just over 18mins. It was a good way to get better at it as well.
Then I had to knock off and left a poor guy all by himself.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
2nd worst thing they have added, behind the NPE.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. Shrugs.
I think it’s pretty fun at first, but very same-ish. Every game you run around the same symmetrical area, doing the exact same things. Which is more or less true of all the activities, of course… but for me, Dragon Ball does seem to ‘get old’ a lot faster.
Autotargeting at his best, how to not love it ?

Well, two of the other activities are like Crab Toss and Keg Brawl, which have less interesting areas to run around. The tunnels and the jumps make this more interesting to me than the Crab Brawl Arena, where you basically run around the same circle.

Yeah, idk. Maybe it’s cause Crab Toss has a variety of abilities from all the stuff, some of which you can combine in useful ways, and giant karka crashing around enjoyably, and two different playstyles based on whether you’ve got the crab or not, and of course is entirely a very different playstyle from the main game. While the area is less interesting, the stuff you’re doing in it entertains me more.
It’s all subjective, of course.
Dragon Ball actually has a lot of depth. But it’s not realized in a PUG where you cannot communicate effectively to control certain key powerups.
It’s kind of like Unreal Tournament and such, but with less twitch required.
It could be fun if it actually worked and with some proper tweaking.
Sadly, that is not the case.
Oh I forgot about crab toss. That is worse.
Dragonball is horrible but Southsun Survival manages to be worse.
Why can’t we have keg brawl for teams?
Mine too, I loved it last year. Having a little bit less fun this year because I have to sort through all the people who only want the 2 rounds of attendance daily. That’s just plain horrible design. I would’ve liked it better if it was win 2 partake 5 or just remove the partaking alltogethr.
Oh, and my guildies love it too, so why can’t I join with them? that would make it an actual sport if you have teamplay
I would probably like it more if it was a bit more balanced. From a pure gameplay and mechanical perspective it is well made, but my issue is that after partaking in it, I often end up just feeling frustrated because the teams never seem well balanced enough.
Players leave or dawdle, and I often find myself in situations where I get ganked by the opposing team who end up outnumbering me 3 to 1 in any given encounter. Or, alternatively, I’ll find that the team I am on is performing too well and ganking other players where ultimately, you get a boring, easy win where no real skill or effort is involved. If ANet found a way to better balance teams for these kinds of mini games (like we see in a lot of other multiplayer games), that would go a long way towards making it a much more fun and less frustrating experience.
I’d love to see this sort of thing made into a private arena for guilds. That would be awesome.

There. I’ve summed up Dragon Ball.
This is without a doubt the most poorly designed content ArenaNet has ever released.
Agree with sanctum sprint being the worst activity due to skill 3 overshooting…
I wouldn’t say I hate this activity but the APs → grind → burn out → dislike. If there was just like play 5 games a day daily I would probably just go in win or lose and enjoy it but right now its not really that fun for me.

Strange, that doesn’t happen to me. Or it hasn’t. I wonder if this is some odd bug, or if you’re targeting someone who’s not in line of sight.
It’s a funny & awsome activity. Stop it!

They are definitely in line of sight. Standing right next to me, hitting me until I’m dead. I can’t hit them though. It afflicts me about 50% of the matches I go into. I wind up just feeding the other team kills because I can’t help out in any way.
I dislike this activity for several particular reasons described in another post:
As a gamer who moved to GW2 after multiple Unreal Tournament incarnations, I find Dragon Ball highly frustrating to play.
- Awful camera work – zooming in and out in cramped tunnels, randomly snapping to bridges.
- No double jump.
- No wall dodge.
- Targeting.
I do understand why GW2 sticks to the usual concept of movement – developing more complicated movements for a single temporary PvP activity makes little sense, and teaching players to use those is no easy task.
Targeting is also a global game concept and yes, one can disable targeting at all, but the skills are designed with targeting in mind – however the recent changes to nearest enemy made targeting even worse than before, doubly so for such a dynamic fast-paced FPS-like game.
But my biggest gripe is camera. Okay, I’ll try using my asura, but… but that just shouldn’t work like it does. I cannot see what hits me or from where, I cannot properly aim because the camera goes back and forth.
So please, ANet: before you come up with something like this again, can we pleeease rework the camera and think of some kind of first person view or at least a no-character view and no-camera-snapping mechanics? Yes, I know it has problems of 1) people investing less in looks and 2) game looking not that good when zoomed in and 3) people performing poorly because they can’t see AoE markers designed for zoomed out camera and 4) those people demanding rework of the current combat tells, but many have asked for it for very valid reasons.

It’s kind of like Unreal Tournament, but with legs chopped off.
Its a great concept but it really doesn’t require much skill to win. I tend to find the team that sticks together and focuses single targets wins easy without power ups or anything. roll around in groups of 3 or more and just pick on those lone roamers and they go down before they can really do anything.
The map is amazing though, I kind of feel like its wasted on dragon ball, it would be great as an actual PvP map.
Gandara
I used to love Dragon Ball, but with hte insane lag I’ve been having the past two days, it’s hard to enjoy it. I still play well enough to win, but I have to wait on jump pads to hop and launch pads to leap. And sometimes when I run through health orbs, nothing happens.
As an activity, DB is fine. It has its haters and die hard fans just like any fun activity does. The problem comes from it being both a participation achievement and a win achievement. Being in two achievements means we must play DB in order to receive the laurel and satisfaction of daily festival achievements. People playing DB have two different goals; some are there to win, and some are there to get participation and get out. Since we have no way to choose our teams( Hate this by the way ), often there is conflict among team members over strategy or lack thereof. It is frustrating when you are playing to win and teammates are just trying to get it over with.
In short, DB is a fine activity brought down by reward mechanics which reward winning and participation among randomly assigned teams. This creates teams where individual members are trying for disparate goals.
Yeah, the daily achievements are bad for basically everyone. People who don’t like dragon ball either miss out on laurels and AP, or have to play something they don’t like. People who do like dragon ball get stuck with people who have no interest in playing it properly.
I get that there isn’t exactly much in Lunar New Year that they could have tied achievements to, but this was a great way to ruin the only significant content they had.

I get it too, and not just in DB. There are a lot of situations where I cannot hit something with a projectile because it is standing in the way of itself. Or I cannot attack at all because I am at point blank range. Attacks WILL NOT GO OFF. Utterly ridiculous.
On topic: I enjoy the game when I can find a fair matchup, but that’s harder than hell. Usually I come in to a game on a short-staffed team who is losing by a wide margin.
Saying I /love/ Dragonball might be a bit of an overstatement, but I do find the game to be enjoyable, much like Snowball Mayhem during Wintersday.
Like the OP said, everyone gets the same skills, so you’re not having to think about what over-tweaked, meta-cheese build someone is using.
It succeeds at putting everyone on the same level in that aspect.
Which leads to the other thing that is being brought up here… The inability to choose your team mates and go in with preset teams.
Personally I am of a mixed opinion on that…
On one hand, it would be nice to be able to team with your friends/guildmates/etc, but then on the other, I can see how that would detract from the casual nature of the activity as well.
Much like not having to worry about what build someone is using, you don’t have to worry about hyper-coordinated teams fighting against random PUGs that have no chance in hell against them. (And don’t act like that wouldn’t happen…)
In this aspect for a casual activity, I think Anet erred on the right side of things.
My only wish is that they had more then one arena for this, since the same one over and over again can get a bit repetitive. But… -shrug- That’s a minor quibble for me.
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
Well, anyone that has followed anything I’ve posted lately will know all of the things that are not sitting right with me from Anet.
That being said, I really like a few rounds of Dragon Ball at the end of the day. Sometimes I want to do something kind of mindless and fun and this has it in spades win or lose. Its like a violent snowball fight with some quasi-fps feels to it. Its a fun distraction in and of itself. Same with things like Sprint. Its a diversion from the usual. I can’t fault it. I can fault all the other nonsense around it, but not the mini-game itself.

Only thing i ask is that all activities be added to Guild UI’s so guilds can create and host their own in house activities.
Personally i like dragon ball and feel it actually has a fair bit of tactical depth to it that gets lost due to the hotjoin nature of the queue and it could be played better with coordinated team play.
Maybe one day anet will let us join these activities as groups so we can actually break away from the zergfest in Dragon Ball though.

haha, too true. I felt like all the constant movement, bouncing and mid-air fighting reminded me of something but couldn’t put my finger on it. very similar to UT
I think, dragon ball should be in permanent daily activities rotation.
Gah, someone sent me a mail and I was deleting moderator mails and I accidentally deleted it with the rest. The title was Sprint so I assume it came from this thread. Whoever it was that sent me the message, I didn’t get to read it. Sorry.
IMO it’s the worst daily activity. Promotes mindless zerging. Losing? Just exit and mess up the game for the others, no repercussions. I’ll be glad when I don’t feel pressured to do it for the seasonal daily.

As an activity, it’s fine. If you enjoy it, go nuts and have fun with it.
As a daily achievement (2 of them, in fact,) it SUCKS. I admit that I’m one of the people who are just hoping to finish 2 rounds and get the heck out. I run an older computer, and lag issues mean serious rubberbanding, including “OBSTRUCTED” while they hit me just fine.
At least I can go in, get slaughtered (I have won exactly one round and do 2 rounds a day,) and get out so I can do something more interesting. Or, like today, just get so fed up that I logged out after dailies were done.
Promotes mindless zerging.
That, I disagree with. EotM promotes mindless zerging. Champion trains promote mindless zerging. But Dragon Ball? It’s not mindless at all. A team that zergs is extremely vulnerable to AoE damage from skill #2. A single player can shut down a whole team if they are chasing one of your teammates in the pit and you have skill #2 handy.
I think Dragon Ball is far from mindless. It works a lot like a small-map FPS. Unless you consider all FPSes to be mindless zerging, then you can’t accuse Dragon Ball of it.
I’ve been just spawning in and hopping to the first ledge and letting others kill me. gets it over faster. this is just pointless. I have yet to win for the few times I tried, it’s just not worth it.

That’s toxic gameplay. You may as well just not participate. You’re ruining it for everyone else.
It’s too teamwork based for me to enjoy it for more than the 2 matches you need for daily.
Hi, I’m Vegito and I approve of Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball is second favorite activity, after Southsun Survival. It’s tons of fun, but just like any other PvP in the game, it can easily be ruined if players decide to manipulate the match’s outcome.
I admit, it would be a lot easier to aim with a crosshair, though. The reason why people get “Obstructed” so much is mainly due to the game’s failed attempts at leading targeted enemies. Because the default projectiles are so slow, they tend to completely miss the target.

That would be waaaay worse. If only winning was included you’d have immediate end-of-match-by-quitting once one team gain significant advantage. Right now those who just need 2 participations get through two games and get out of your way. If you had 5 or only win 2 (which right now can be substituted with “pop 5 fireworks”) there’d be lots of screaming
I only do it for the daily as I don’t like it. Hence prefer my matches to be lopsided, as they are faster, and I don’t have to spend more time seeing “obstructed, obstructed” on screen.
I like it as an activity.
I do not like it as a daily achievement.

Perhaps it’s ANet that’s at fault here. Requiring one to play DB to get the event daily, as there is no other method, is their fault not a player’s. If a player hates that sort of game—for any reason at all, and there is not a single other option, I think they have every right to go in, stand there, die, feed the other team, and get out as soon as possible. If it screws over those that wish to play “legit” it means pretty much everyone is being screwed by ANet’s extremely narrow design of this event.
I would think the generally superb devs we have behind this game could have thought this through and come up with one—ONE—additional daily for the event to complete the set without DB being involved. But, it’s pretty clear—just as with forcing players to do WvW for map completion in an effort to get the big legendary shiny—they favor the angle of requirement rather than encouragement.
“You want to play DB? Great! There it is. You don’t? Well, ok, here’s a second option, but remember there’s some ‘cheeves and more reward boxes if you try out DB. Maybe you’ll like it!”
No. They go, “You want the event daily? Play DB. We made it. You must play it, or you can just forget that nice Laurel. Too bad for you, eh?”
Yes, that’s well over the top, I’m sure, but it kinda underscores the sense I feel sometimes with ANet’s methodology.
If you like Dragon Ball, good for you.
Still, there is no reason why it should be required for me to get enough of the event dailies for that one laurel. Especially when it’s arguably even worse gameplay wise than regular SPvP, which is already only good for reward tracks and regular dailies anyways.
No. They go, “You want the event daily? Play DB. We made it. You must play it, or you can just forget that nice Laurel. Too bad for you, eh?”
I agree. I never said, or even thought dragon ball should be a daily. And making it a daily makes NO ONE happy. The people who enjoy playing it like it less. The people who don’t like it, feel like they have to do something they don’t like.
It’s a lose/lose situation.
They should make the new HoT legendaries require 1000 dragon ball wins.
