Same as they have been for a while. RNG boxes that have a “small chance” at giving you the skin.
They might end up giving out a ticket at the end of the festivities for at least one skin. Would be nice, but don’t count on it.

Not from a company viewpoint. They have constantly received tons of cash flow from this. They get a lot more money out of making a handful of dolts try to win the skin lottery than they would with just straight out selling the skins to everybody. Otherwise, they wouldn’t bother with the RNG boxes at all.

Wasn’t insulting anybody in particular. But anybody who is spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on trying to get a skin in the game obviously has issues. It’s borderline insanity.

The new weapon skins will be in two different RNG boxes:
Dragon Coffers will drop from certain events during the festival. These will contain weapon tickets at a rate which ANet have labelled “rarely”.
Rich Dragon Coffers will likely be the gem store version. The drop rate on these isn’t specified , but in comparison the Dragon Coffers dropping in PvE have a low drop rate.

What they appear to have done is increased the drop rate on the gem store version of the item and made a separate version with lower drop rates available without gems. By separating it into two versions they can have drop rates appropriate to people who are gaining the RNG boxes without gems, and for those with gems. Hopefully the drop rate is high enough to feel consistent in the gem store version. (It can be implied as 100% from that preview, but can also be implied as being a chance… it’s probably a chance.)
I think if ANet have done it right this could be a really great compromise between customers complaining about RNG and making money. I reckon it’ll still be a gamble but not as much as it usually is with fused weapons and southsun weapons. Obviously though there will always be people complaining, but that will never change. I personally really welcome this if it does turn out to be that way.
I believe they would have done right with skins dropping from these free RNG boxes, and cash shop skins on the cash shop no RNG, i know why the company does it, i don’t agree with it.
I personally will see how it goes but if these things aren’t easy to get, im gonna move on, i’m not into prestige junk or pay to win weapons… good luck to Anet in my opinion but its not for me.
