Dragonite ore, bloodstone, empyreal fragments
That “We don’t want players to grind part” oh my, I cant stop laughing right now, hahaha….. that’s just sad :’(
I agree, we need more things to with them, they are completely useless to loads of players atm…
Really, why don’t they let them be sellable via the Trading Post. Problem solved.
He probably meant ascended gear, but there technically is more uses for the stuff now, since the endless Wintersday tonics use them and so did some of the toxic recipes. Since the next patch won’t be until late January, the next 4 patches will be story focused and finally, the patch after that will be feature-only. I’d guess that these items won’t have any other uses for another ~3 months at least. I’ve also held off on deleting them because of his statement, but now I’ll be forced to simply because there’s too much of it. Another 3 months is like 30 more stacks, and that’s just from doing 2 events a day.

The funny thing about the manifesto is, it’s still true today. All the complaints about it are when you take the points they made out of context. People would understand it better if they saw the actual full length interviews, rather than the point form notes of the manifesto.
The no grind statement is one of the most commonly misunderstood points and it is directly referencing other MMOs. He’s referring to having to grind filler content (aka kill 10 rats) to experience the actual fun content (aka main story quests) and then switches to talking about the grind of combat due to the usual style of sit there while you auto attack, whereas GW2 is action oriented. The same can technically happen in GW2, but you have to forcibly do it. Anyone that has ever played an MMO like WoW would probably understand.

The dev didn’t really say anything just that you shouldn’t destroy them. This was before ascended armor came out but could also be hinting at a vendor coming where we can trade say 250 bloodstone dust for 20 emp fragments. Its kind of a bummer you need to spend money to save up on mats…kind of beats the point of saving up, eh?

The point of manifestos is that they are supposed to attract your attention. Therefore, they usually containt many generalizations and oversimplifications. Hence, people hope for something they most certainly will not get in the final game.
Thus, what follows logically, when you compare the manifesto to the game itself… You get the overwhelming laughter from people around here.
Can’t you sell the ingots that you can make from these things?
Can’t you sell the ingots that you can make from these things?
nope they are account bound.
They actually have quite a few uses now.
Ascended weapons take 500 of each. Ascended armor takes 200 of each (chest takes 500). Toxic recipes takes 100 bloodstone dust each, and are a good choice for some players as consumables. The new tonic recipes take some as well I believe.
They currently want ascended weapons to not be sellable on the TP so these remain the only component you can’t sell so that you actually need to make the weapon yourself.
A solution that would allow them to keep things account bound would be an exchange vendor. Where you can exchange the mats for other ascended mats, or even maybe T6 items. This would allow people to get rid of their excess and still keep the items account bound.
Which one is supposed to be tradeable on the TP? I thought I remember that live stream before the ascended weapons came out some of the ingots were going to be sellable. Oh well.
I’d love to be able to salvage those ores and fragments into essences of luck or sell to vendor.
Is ascended amror tradeable on the TP? I would think not. I haven’t looked into it either. If it’s sellable on the TP I might actually get involved just to make some coin.

Ascended mats that are (partially) crafted from other time-gated mats are tradeable, as a way to bypass the time-gate.
Like Spiritwood Plank, which needs Glob of Elder Spirit Residue (limited crafting). Same with Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Bolt of Damask and Elonian Leather Square, not sure if there’s any other.
I really wish there was a way for me to buy those mats from you OP. sighs Such a waste…

I also wish I could trade one type of ascended mat for another. I have a decent amount of dragonite, but not alot of the emp fragments. Would love to trade for them.
I have tons of Bloodstone Dust, but I can’t get my hands on the other materials in that amount. Why do they ram Bloodstone Dust into our inventory like this but make the others so much more rare? What is the logic or theory behind it?

If you do dungeons and world bosses dragonite ore and emp frags are quite easily obtained. Not as available as dust because of champ boxes. Just pointing that out.

Filler content, eh? You mean like the poorly disguised kill this, gather that quests…oh excuse me, hearts? Of course, you can bypass all that by just paying money and leveling with crafting.
A mystic forge recipe to convert one to another at even a 5:1 ratio would be a complete win.
^ that, I would gladly trade 5 bloodstone ingots for 1 dragonite ingot/emp star, (I have a lovely 180 bloodstone ingots left which are a compete waste and will never get used.

This would be a good solution. I lack a lot of dragonite but have loads of bloodstone dust. Would be nice to sell my excess and get the dragonite I need, without having to change my current playstyle (i.e. doing things I don’t enjoy in this game just to get a certain reward).

Hearts (and scouts) were added late into development because they found that players from traditional MMOs were too conditioned to figure out how to explore. Unlike the filler quests, hearts are not required to continue the main story.

What story?

Then they shouldn’t require you to actually finish them for world completion – a mere discovery should be enough.
/off topic bump (thread answered my search)
Put them into wallet or delete them from game.
Keep em. It’s pretty probable they’ll be used for pre-cursor crafting..
I saw a Dev on the forums advising people to stop throwing them away and saying there will be a new use for them soon or that we might need them.
No no no
You don’t understand, it has been proven countless times on these forums by V – eh, certain individuals that saying one thing and then proceeding to do something completely different is perfectly reasonable and is in fact a formidable approach to most matters.
Guys. Please. I WvW, and haven’t gotten my ascended armor or ascended ranged weapons yet, and you PvErs are killing me demanding more to do with them. Life might be fine and dandy for you all, but from a WvW standpoint I just can’t keep up. Dragonite is hard to come by, and while I have no issues with Empyrial Shards or Bloodstone Dust, the demands of the PvErs to put in more uses for these things is making it a bear to even keep those in stock.
Dragonite comes from farming temples, dragons and champions (in WvW via keep lords and the lord of stonemist). A PvE player with multiple leveled characters can chain these targets via the dragon timer and gather stacks of dragonite while the WvW player gets barely a taste.
They make it rare on purpose to keep PvE and WvW (which has a HUGE prevalence of bloodstone dust yet barely any dragonite) equally responsible for ascended mats.
If they didn’t throttle access to these mats, everyone would easily have ascended weapons, lessening the value they hold for those that worked for them.
Some form of conversion does need to be established but bloodstone is the mithril of ascended mats, something needs to happen to improve the value it holds.

Still waiting for Ascended Rings to be salvaged for some extra ectos or something.
30+ Rings I don’t need.
9 month passed and Empyreal Fragments still useless.
Way to go Anet.
