In my perspective I think it just doesn’t justify the cost of making it which can potentially lead to so many bugs since they would be messing with hostility tags being local to the player and duelist. Remember release with all those buggy NPCs and skill points where they don’t turn hostile?

Also potential split of pvp community – reason of what you just mentioned and then some more.

I agree with you on the cost, mainly because the mistssss sate my pvp itch [read: bloodlust]

It’s a good notion, but the effort needed to handle and deliver it properly are… kind of at substantial levels right now.

Dueling can be disabled in options, also putted on CD like in Wildstar….
There are solutions, all it takes is good will, not “i afraid of it, lets not put it”.

Hope this attracts an eye of developer.

I made so much mistakes that I now make mistakes without mistake.

How would that work? If duel requests were enabled only in OS, you would still have to deal with people from other servers interrupting. It’s pretty close to why custom spvp fails as a duel substitute.

I still think open world is best, because it’s the open world. It’s the place for leisure activities.

If you could duel in sPvP you would interfere with your teammates who are trying to actually play sPvP, and if you could duel in WvW, people would go there to duel instead of fight for their server. I know queues for WvW aren’t an issue anymore, but if you have a spot in WvW you should be WvWing, not dueling.

Ok, but open world is very unlikely to happen.

so it’s time to think of another option, that would be viable.

maybe a dueling box, similar to box of fun?
But if you or anyone interacts with it, you can do fight each other? (but you have to interact with the dueling box first.) ….

but if it;s like box’o’fun, it’ll be a gem store item, and you probably won’t be happy with that, eh?

Heart of the Mists .. that’s where they can allow duelling .. there where you also can
fight those test golems .. that is the only correct place in my opinion.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I agree, open world duels are unlikely to happen. Mostly for the reasons i posted on the first page of the thread. Open world duels isn’t very attractive to monetize, it doesn’t really fit with the LS model, and it’s not really consistent with the types of updates we’ve seen in the game.
I think the devs would like to add it, but wont ever be able to due to restrictions with time/money/resources and because it’s not consistent with the current direction of the game or quarterly fiscal goals.

I do not believe they didn’t include duels because of the “toxicity” associated with it, “balance issues, duel spam, etc” or because of the “12 years pro-duelers” that make up the majority of the claims against duels. That is foolish, easy to work around, and has been figured out by just about every MMO except GW2 and i guess ESO.

I think suggesting an alternative is just as futile as suggesting open world duels.

I couldn’t agree more, tbh.

but people want to use armour/food buffs, they also want to fight in various areas of the pve maps.
I can understand this.

Which is why I suggested a new “mist world” that is 1 random pve map(separate server from pve!) per week.
people can enter this map, and it’s the same as it’s pve copy but with the option of fighting eachother.
(If this is possible or not, idk…..but at least people who want to fight in pve will have the option, they could explore the (random) “cursed shore mists” and fight other players too.
One thing players really want is to be able to fight same server..or any server. So this would need to be either a dueling request map, or everyone who enters is an “enemy”..and not based on server rotation. but I suppose, have a low map cap, to prevent ganking? ..

because as much I don’t want to see pvp in my pve, I understand wanting to pvp in the various pve maps.

yeah that would be great except my character in heart of the mists is different from the one i use in WvW.

It would be funny, and not surprising to the see the sPvP community rise up if your suggestion was implemented, with the same sort of complaints that come from the PvEers.
“I am in heart of the mists to queue for sPvP! I shouldn’t have to watch people duel, and see their particle effects clutter my screen! I shouldn’t have to read all these arguments and and insults in mapchat that result from dueling in heart of the mists! Everytime i join heart of the mists i am bombarded with duel spam!”

So basically, none of the complaints from the anti-duelers would disappear, they would just be burdened on the sPvP population, which i guess you could care less about, haha. Not your problem, right?

I hope you understand bragging does increase competitiveness, do you not know that?

If people brag then pwn them and brag back?

Hmmm.

Well mentally the original bragger will realize that there will always be someone better than them and that its better not to brag because others will brag back. This being said bragging still does increase competitiveness, if there’s an kitten who is bragging someone else have motivation to get better and pwn them.

As a guy who’s played plenty of PvP games, I rarely see anyone who’s kitteny and loud before a duel, be any less boisterous after losing. If anything, losing usually makes them worse, where they’ll try to publicly slander you, claiming you fought unfairly in an attempt to aggressively protect their wounded pride.

This.

just set up a custom arena and fight your friends there.

Oh really? o.O
So paying? yeaaaa

Open the game menu and you’ll see that there are tons of empty arenas without passwords. Just step in one of those…or one of the many arenas that people specifically set up for dueling.

I don’t like the idea of the dueling option. But if it’s ever added, there should be a small twist.

Gemstore duel flags. If the user wants a duel, he plants his flag and whoever wishes to duel him, just goes up and accepts his challenge. They too must own a flag of course.

But really, I do enjoy the pvp and pve concepts of this game being completely separate.

I’m definitely against pvp in pve, but i don’t see anything wrong with “sparring matches”, like i’ve seen in other MMO’s like Lotro for eg.

They’re always 1v1 and by invitation only and you also have option to turn those invitations off.

No one actually dies or gets killed. If one opponent’s HP goes to zero you have a winner, simple as that. No hard feelings there. It’s a test of skill /strength, and a bit more fun than a dummy test or costume brawl? If implemented in this way, i don’t see a problem, it can even be fun to watch sometimes.

+1 for dueling as always. wishful thinking though, I highly doubt they’ll implement it.

Again for the people who don’t want to duel, put in an option to ignore requests, simples. Doesn’t mean it should be cut out of the game completely just because some people would rather not duel their friends. That’s just silly.

Actually it’s only silly because you’re not in our shoes. I’m not that intolerant of what other people want…until it affects my gameplay…and it will.

People who like that are not generally the type of people I want to play with. It’s not my thing. Call me a care bear if you like, the shoe fits.

The more features you have that attract competitive PvE’ers the worse the entire tone of the community goes down. It affects everyone. PvE in this game was designed to be cooperative. It attacted a certain community. The more competitive it gets, the worse the community gets. That’s why games like League of Legends have such a bad community.

Since I’d prefer the community to be happy, nicer, one big family…well yeah I’d prefer it not. Here’s how it worked in other games where you could switch off the option.

You’d be sitting there crafting or doing whatever, and some kid would come up to you and challenge you to a duel. If you don’t respond, some kid will whisper you. If you still don’t respond and you block them, they’ll follow you around and jump up and down spamming stuff, while calling you out in map chat and talking trash. I know this is what happens, because it’s happened to me before, even though I’ve had my dueling option disabled.

Since I don’t want to encourage that kind of juvenile unnecessary behavior, I’ll have to pass on dueling.

I hear you. I was playing a game that has open world dueling, by Invite. This guy comes up to me while I am with my wife, and he sends the duel invite over. In that game when someone sends a duel invite, a flag is dropped inbetween you, so you know how farfrom the flag you can get during a fight, and still not go " out of Bounds"… anyway it is VERY Not-subtle, and obvious that he Invityed me to duel. No way i could Miss it.

So I see that it says " accept duel…" or " decline duel"

I decline. within 5 seconds i get another Invite from the same guy. I decline again. he Invites again.

it gets to where i really cannot do much else other than decline Invites. So I send him an IM…" I do not want to duel..I declined 3 times already…. " he asks." why didn’t you just say so?" I said " I declined 4 times." he says " I thought that was accidental."

I tell him " I do not wish to duel" he asks " why not?" I ignored him after that..and tried to walk away.. Boom.." another duel request."

After explaining to my wife what I was doing, I told her " let’s log"…

Sometimes dueling can be fun. Sometimes it can become harrassment.

No duels. SPvP is there, so is WvW… the mechanics are there for players that wish to duel.

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

Join an empty PvP server. It’s free. I duel guildies often in empty servers. Sure people will eventually join, but typically we go off to the side and we get a number of rounds in before it starts to get too populated. Then we move to a different server if we want to continue.

Sure it’s not the most convenient, but it’s not like it is impossible or difficult to do. You can get it done in literally like 5 mouse clicks. Click PvP button, click enter mists, click open game browser, click on server you want, click enter. Done.

People need to stop acting like its impossible to duel your friends if you really wanted to or you can only do it by paying for it.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Just a note, costume brawls both require you to have a gemstore item and accept on your own.
There are no duel prompts, the combat system uses a completely different ‘damage’ system, and you can only interact with people already in the mode. you can also leave the mode at any time.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t what you guys want.

The idea of duel is not having to organize an arena or have to teleport somewhere else just for having fun with people.
When I’m fooling around with my friend, we’re not gonna go create an arena and leave the area we’re in just to give eachother a few hits and then go back. It’s stupid to think we’d even consider doing that. It turns what is supposed to just be fun into something trying to be serious. That’s the opposite of fun.

Costume Brawl is a fun mini game but it’s nothing like duel. It’s not our skills, not our stats, not our class, not our weapons. And like you said, the items required for it are account bound and locked behind goldsink and lottery box.

I have no problems with people wanting to duel, my problem is with people wanting to duel in PvE. An option to automatically deny any duel request will not be enough to stop the harassment that would come from having PvE dueling. The lore of the game already has gladiatorial arenas set up in LA and in the Black Citadel, or set something up in the Mists. Just keep it out of PvE!

You guys don’t get the fact that we as players need to be able to fight the people we want without being hindered.

All of the methods recommended are not good enough.
PvP is a cookie cutter fighting system.
WvW/EoTM is complete freedom except for the fact that you can’t fight people of the same color.

These thread makers and everyone of the like want to fight as it should be. If you want to fight someone and they say yes then you should be able to do just that. They want to use their own mix’n’match stats with their food, potion and any other consumable. That is exactly what WvW is but without the harsh limitations.

Then I would have an amazing fight on the spot in the middle of an artistic terrain that is nearly endless then continue on my way.

We could also say that if you don’t want other people using skills around you then go play a single player game.
Also, the option would most likely be set to “refuse duel request” by default. Arenanet knows that a big part of the playerbase are confused by simple check box as proven with the chat options introduced with mega server.

Anyway Arenanet only add things if they can attach goldsink to them. So instead of an evil checkbox in your option menu, it would most likely be a 100 gold item we’d have to buy like for belcher’s bluff.

We do not own the game, GW2 is not our property, we bought the right to play the game, this is in the T&C, go check it yourself.

PvE is a place for PvE contents, it is introduced as a PvE only environment, and many of us insist to remain as is. For PvP content, Mist is over there, help yourself.

I personally don’t mind duel option, but i prefer to keep PvE free of PvP content.
